Description
The Greenlee AM-1000 Analog Clamp-on Meter is a hand-held testing device with the following
measurement capabilities: AC and DC voltage, AC current, and resistance. The multi-colored
display includes a pointer lock so that you can save a measurement for later viewing.
The teardrop-shaped jaw can accommodate a conductor up to 47 mm (1.85") in diameter.

Safety is essential in the use and maintenance of Greenlee tools and equipment. This
instruction manual and any markings on the tool provide information for avoiding hazards and

Operation
For highest accuracy:
• Lay the meter flat on a non-metallic surface, away from any magnetic objects.
• Read the scale straight on — not at an angle.
• If possible, select a range that results in a reading in the upper 1/3 of the scale.
1. Unlock the pointer.
2. Zero the meter as follows: With the test leads disconnected, adjust the Zero Adjustment
Screw to set the pointer to the far right side of the scale.
3. Before taking a resistance measurement, set the meter to Ω. Connect the tips of the test
leads together and read the meter. Use the Ohms Adjustment Knob to set the needle to the
far left side of the scale (zero ohms).
Note: If you cannot zero the meter, replace the battery. If you cannot zero the meter after
replacing the battery, send the unit to Greenlee for repair.
4. See the Settings Table. Set the selector to the proper setting and connect the test leads to
the meter. Start with the highest measurement setting.
5. See Typical Measurements for specific measurement instructions.
6. Test the unit on a known functioning circuit or component.
• If the unit does not function as expected on a known functioning circuit, replace the
battery and/or fuse.
• If the unit still does not function as expected, send the unit to Greenlee for repair. See
the address shown under Warranty.
7. Take the reading from the circuit or component to be tested. If the resolution is not
satisfactory, remove the meter from the circuit and change to the next lower range.
Note: Use the pointer Lock to hold the measurement, if desired.

Overvoltage Installation Categories
These definitions were derived from the international safety standard for insulation
coordination as it applies to measurement, control, and laboratory equipment. These
overvoltage categories are explained in more detail by the International Electrotechnical
Commission; refer to either of their publications: IEC 1010-1 or IEC 60664.
Overvoltage Category I
Signal level. Electronic and telecommunication equipment, or parts thereof. Some examples
include transient-protected electronic circuits inside photocopiers and modems.
Overvoltage Category II
Local level. Appliances, portable equipment, and the circuits they are plugged into. Some
examples include light fixtures, televisions, and long branch circuits.
Overvoltage Category III
Distribution level. Permanently installed machines and the circuits they are hard-wired to.
Some examples include conveyor systems and the main circuit breaker panels of a building’s
electrical system.
Overvoltage Category IV
Primary supply level. Overhead lines and other cable systems. Some examples include cables,
meters, transformers, and other exterior equipment owned by the power utility.

Maintenance
1. Disconnect the unit from the circuit.
2. Remove the screws from the battery door.
3. Remove the battery door.
4. Replace the battery (observe polarity) and/or fuse with fuse jacket.
5. Replace the door and screws.
Cleaning
Periodically wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent; do not use abrasives or
solvents.
• Do not attempt to repair this unit. It contains no user-serviceable parts.
• Do not expose the unit to extremes in temperature or high humidity.

El Amperímetro con pinza modelo AM-1000 de Greenlee es un instrumento de verificación capaz

Operación
Para mayor precisión:
• Tienda el medidor sobre una superficie no metálica, alejado de objetos magnéticos.
• Al leer la escala, manténgala en posición recta — no en ángulo.
• De ser posible, seleccione una gama que arroje lecturas por encima de 1/3 de la escala.
1. Desbloquee el señalizador.
2. Ponga el medidor en ceros de la siguiente manera: Con los cables de prueba desconecta-
dos, ajuste el tornillo de ajuste en ceros para llevar el señalizador hasta el extremo derecho
de la escala.
3. Antes de efectuar una medición de resistencia, ajuste el medidor en Ω. Acople las puntas de
los cables de prueba y lea lo que aparece en el medidor. Utilice la perilla de ajuste en ohmios
para llevar la aguja al extremo izquierdo de la escala (cero ohmios).
Nota: Si no puede poner el medidor en ceros, reemplace la pila. Si aun luego de reemplazar
la pila no puede poner el medidor en ceros, devuelva la unidad a Greenlee a fin de que sea
reparada.
4. Consulte la Tabla de valores. Coloque el interruptor de selección en el valor adecuado y
conecte los cables de prueba a la unidad. Empiece por el ajuste de medición más alto.
5. Consulte la sección “Mediciones más comunes” en relación con las instrucciones
específicas para cada tipo de medición.
6. Pruebe la unidad en un circuito o componente que se sabe está funcionando perfectamente.
• Si no funciona como debería en un circuito que se sabe está funcionando perfectamente,
reemplace la pila y/o el fusible.
• Si sigue sin funcionar como debería, devuélvala a Greenlee a fin de que sea reparada. Vea
la dirección bajo Garantía.
7. Anote la lectura del circuito o componente que se está verificando. Si la resolución de la
lectura no es satisfactoria, desconecte el medidor del circuito y cambie a la siguiente escala
inferior.
Nota: Utilice el Bloqueo de señalizador para retener en pantalla el valor que aparece en ese
momento, si así lo desea.
