This manual contains important safety and operatin instructions for the char er. Read
the entire manual before usin . Also read all instructions and cautions for the char er,
batteries and equipment in the vicinity of the batteries.

THIS CHARGER SHOULD BE USED TO CHARGE ONLY LEAD ACID, AGM OR
GEL CELL TYPE BATTERIES. USE ON OTHER BATTERY TYPES MAY EXPLODE
AND CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY.
RISK OF EXPLOSIVE GASES! WORKING IN THE VICINITY OF LEAD ACID
BATTERIES IS DANGEROUS. BATTERIES GENERATE EXPLOSIVE GASES

INTRODUCING THE CHARGER
The Guest model 16041, 16082, and 16123 are desi ned to both rechar e your
batteries, and extend your battery’s life in applications where it is stored for lon
periods of time. They are “3-sta e” electronic, completely automatic, li htwei ht, silent,
battery char ers and each output produces 12 Volts DC at a full 4 Amps (model
specific), while usin much less AC current than other char er types. Unlike
automotive “trickle” char ers, the 16041, 16082, and 16123 will not boil off the
electrolytes in properly installed and maintained batteries. When the char er is
attached to your batteries and plu ed into a standard 115 Volt / 60 Hz AC outlet, the
red and reen LED’s, mounted on the face of the char er let you know the unit is
recharging and maintaining your batteries. This sophisticated device is ideal for
rechar in and maintainin the 12VDC batteries in your boat, electric vehicle or cart,
ATV, snowmobile or motorcycle.
Perso al Safety Precautio s
Adhere to the followin personal safety precautions when installin or workin with the
char ers:
1. Someone should be within voice ran e or close enou h to come to your aid when
you work near a lead-acid battery.
2. Have plenty of fresh water and soap nearby in case battery acid contacts skin,
clothin , or eyes.
3. Wear complete eye protection and clothin protection. Avoid touchin eyes while
workin near a battery.
4. If battery acid contacts skin or clothin , wash them immediately with soap and
water. If acid enters the eye, flood the eye with cold, runnin water for at least ten
minutes and et medical attention.
5. Never smoke or allow an open flame in the vicinity of the battery.
6. Do not drop a metal tool onto the battery. It may short-circuit the battery, spark and
may cause an explosion.
7. Remove all personal metal items such as rin s, bracelets, necklaces, and watches
when workin near a lead-acid battery. A battery can produce short circuit currents
hi h enou h to weld a rin or the like to metal, causin a severe burn.

Prepari g to Charge Precautio s
Before char in a battery with the char er, read the followin precautions:
1. Do NOT operate the char er if the cable or an LED indicator is dama ed.
2. Make sure all accessories on the product you are char in are OFF.
3. If the battery or batteries must be removed from the product, always remove the
rounded terminal from the battery first.
4. Be sure the area around the battery is well ventilated while the battery is bein
char ed. Gas can be forcefully blown away usin a piece of cardboard or other
non-metallic material as a “hand fan”.
5. Clean battery terminals. Be careful to keep corrosion from comin into contact with
eyes.
6. Add distilled water in each cell until battery acid reaches levels specified by the
battery manufacturer, if applicable. Do not overfill. Check water levels frequently.
For a battery without cell caps, carefully follow the manufacturer’s rechar in
instructions.
7. Never allow the char er battery connection rin terminals to touch each other.
8. NEVER char e a frozen battery.
9. Please be sure the DC system to which the char er is connected is not drawin
excessive current from the battery for extended periods of time while the char er is
operatin . This is important to ensure the char er correctly transitions throu h each
char in sta e to finish with the float volta e level. If the DC system is drawin
continuous current while char in , reduced life or dama e to the battery may occur.
INSTALLING THE CHARGER
Note: The initial installation consists of (a) Choosin a mountin location, (b) mountin
the char er, (c) makin the DC connections, (d) makin the AC connections to a
receptacle that is protected by a GFCI breaker.
Choosi g Chargi g Locatio
The char er should have at least ei ht inches of unobstructed area on all sides of the
unit for effective coolin . The case of this char er will become warm durin operation.
Because the char er is convection cooled (airflow over the back heat sink, the optimum
mountin position for the char er is vertical. Mountin on its back on a horizontal
surface may cause the char er to sli htly reduce ampera e output due to the thermal
protection built in. Do not install the char er on carpeted, upholstered, or varnished
surfaces.

Mou ti g the Charger
1. Use corrosion resistant #10 sized bolts, backed by a flat washer, and secured to the
mountin surface with a split-rin lock washer.
2. Hold the char er to the mountin surface and mark the holes.
3. Remove the char er and drill the mountin holes.
4. Ali n the char er and assemble the mountin hardware. Secure.
Maki g the DC Co ectio s
Check polarity of the battery posts. The POSITIVE (POS., P, +) battery post usually
has a lar er diameter than the NEGATIVE (NEG., N, -) post. Connect Red char er
output wire to POSITIVE post, Black char er wire to NEGATIVE. See below dia rams
for more details.
Maki g AC Co ectio
After makin DC connections, connect the AC plu into an AC receptacle, which is
protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) breaker.
Battery Size Recomme datio s
The recommended maximum battery size per bank is 75AH (Group 24).
Note: Transition from Absorption sta e to float sta e is affected by the size of the
batteries. Lar er batteries may stop the char er from transitionin to float sta e due to
excessive self dischar e current in the battery.

OPERATING THE CHARGER
The LED Fu ctio Chart below describes the char in process.
Display Operati g co ditio
When the red LED is on, it indicates that your batteries are dischar ed and is
rechar in them at the "BULK" rate (sta e 1). This char in rate is 4 Amps.
While the red LED is on, the volta e measured (with the char er on) will be
approximately 11.8 to 13 Volts.
If the red LED stays on for more than 24 hours, refer to Problem 1 in the
troubleshootin section in this manual.
When both the reen and the red LED’s are on, it is char in at an
"ABSORPTION" rate. (sta e 2). Durin this second char in sta e, the
char er holds the battery volta e at approximately 14.4 VDC, and then
radually reduces the amount of current (Amps) it delivers to the battery. By
doin this, the battery is able to “absorb” the last 10% of char e as quickly as
possible without becomin overheated.
If both li hts stay on lon er than 24 hours, refer to Problem 2 in the
troubleshootin section in this manual.
When the battery approaches full char e, the char er switches into its third
char in sta e, radually reducin the current fed to the batteries to as low as
0.1 Amps. At the same time, it reduces its output volta e to a “FLOAT” or
“Mai te a ce” char in rate of approximately 13.3 VDC, indicated by the
reen LED li ht. This low “Float” or “Maintenance” volta e ently “tops off”
your batteries, keepin them fully char ed and ready until needed. Now you
can store your batteries at full char e indefinitely without overchar in . The
reen LED indicates that your batteries are now fully char ed and ready for
use.
If the reen LED stays on when your battery is known to be low, refer to
Problem 3 in the troubleshootin section in this manual.

TROUBLESHOOTING

MAINTAINING THE CHARGER
Periodically clean both battery terminals with bakin soda and ti hten all connections.
No other maintenance on the char er is required.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A di ital device,
pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are desi ned to provide reasonable protection
a ainst harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This
equipment enerates, uses and can radiate radio frequency ener y and, if not installed and used in
accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications.
Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which
case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense.
If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be
determined by turnin this equipment off and on, the user is encoura ed to try to correct the
interference by one or more of the followin measures:
---Reorient or relocate the receivin antenna.
---Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
---Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver
is connected.
LIMITED WARRANTY
For two (2) years from the date of ori inal purchase, The Guest Co. will, at its discretion, repair
or replace for the ori inal consumer, free of char e, any parts found defective in material or
workmanship.
Proof of purchase is required: A computerized re ister receipt is required. Hand-written receipts
are not accepted for warranty proof of purchase. In the absence of a receipt, warranty period
will be calculated from date of manufacture printed or stamped on the product.
There is no other expressed warranty. Implied warranties, includin those of merchantability
and fitness for a particular purpose, are limited to two years from the date of purchase. This is
the exclusive remedy and consequential dama es are excluded where permitted by law.
