Safety information
EvaDrive a motor of Eva mobile lifts and is available as an accessory. It has been developed to meet the increasing
need for power assistance when maneuvering a user in the mobile lift. EvaDrive unit supplies the power by its motorised
wheels and is controlled by the unique intuitive handle bar.
Visual inspection
Inspect lift functions regularly. Check to ensure that material is free from damage.
Before use
Make certain the lift is properly assembled.
Check lifting function and base-width adjustment.
Check driving function in all directions.
Check that the accessory (EvaDrive) is properly mounted on the lift.
Always read the user manuals for all assistive devices used during a transfer.
Keep the user manual where it is accessible to users of the product.
Always make sure that you have the right version of the user manual.
The most recent editions of user manuals are available for downloading from our website, www.handicare.com.
Under no circumstances may a lift with EvaDrive be used by persons who have not received instruction in the operation
of a lift with the accessory mounted.
It is strongly prohibited to modify the original product.

Assembly
Unpacking and inspection
The following is included in the EvaDrive package:
• Handlebar
• EvaDrive unit
• Allen key
• 2 screws + bracket for handlebar
The following is included in the EvaDrive battery package:
• Battery (Replaces the battery of Eva mobile lift)
• Charger
• Charger cable
Check to ensure that no components are left in the packaging.
Inspect the drive unit for signs of damage.
Periodic inspection must be performed at least once yearly. Use only original spare parts. Service and maintenance must
be performed according to instructions in the manual.
The drive unit must be charged for at least 10 hours before it is used for the first time.
Install the drive unit on the lift according to the accompanying assembly instructions. (Separate document) Assembly
must be performed by Handicare authorized personnel.

Installation of the handlebar
The handlebar must be installed on the mast at a height of at least 33.4 inch
from the floor. Measure from the lowest point of the handlebar.
The handlebar is secured using the accompanying Allen key.
The complete Eva lift package with EvaDrive includes the following:

• 2 screws + bracket for handlebar
Intended use of the product
EvaDrive in an add-on system to Handicare Eva Mobile lifts in order to provide a power assisted drive function to the rear
wheels. The EvaDrive system can either be delivered as an accessory to be retro-fitted to Eva450EE or Eva600EE, or as
a complete unit with the drive system fitted from the factory. The EvaDrive shall be used in the following situations and
environments:
• In a passive patient lift situation with a user in the lift, reducing the effort from the caregiver when
maneuvering the lift.
• In a dry environment and on a level surface.
• Home Care environments.
• Healthcare environments.

Installation of cables
Connect the battery cable and the cable for the hand control. Secure the hand control cable with the retainer.
Connect the motor cable and turn to lock in place.

Final inspection
• Check to ensure that no components are left in the packaging.
• Inspect the product for signs of damage.
• Inspect wheels and brakes.
• Check mechanical brake function by activating the brakes and, without activating EvaDrive, try to
move the lift forward. If the lift does not move, the brakes function as they should.
• Check all connections, screws and bolts.
• Check emergency-stop function by activating EvaDrive; press the emergency-stop button, and
then press the up or down button. If nothing happens, the emergency stop is functioning as it should,
since it stops all electrical functions.
• Using the hand control, activate EvaDrive, press the up button and run the lift boom all the way up.
Then, press the down button and run the boom all the way down.
• Test base-width adjustment. Activate the system, press the button for base-width adjustment, open
the undercarriage to maximum width, and then press the other button to reduce the width.
• If the lift is functioning as it should, connect the charger and check to ensure that the red charging
indicator light on the charger lights up.
• Activate EvaDrive and grasp the handlebar with both hands, hold the safety switch in, and then run
the lift forward, backward and in a turning motion. Check that the lift moves easily, to both the right
and to the left.
• Test the rear wheels by turning them a bit; turn the lift back and forth. Turn the wheels all the way and
run the lift sideways. Check that the yellow light lights up when the wheels turn and are turned, and
that the light goes out when the wheels are returned to the normal position.
NOTE!
The lift must be charged for at least 10 hours before it is used for the first time. See section on battery charging.
Keep the manual where it is easily accessible for users of the product.

Using the product
Important information
• The accessory must be assembled according to the assembly instructions included with the product.
• The lift, with the accessory installed, may only be operated indoors on a dry and level surface.
• Never leave a user unattended during a transfer.
• Maximum load may under no circumstances be exceeded. See section on maximum load.
• The lift must not be lowered into water or used in the shower.
• The lift must not be left or stored in a damp or humid environment.
• The lift must not be charged in a wet room.
• For optimal function, inspect the lift regularly. See section on Maintenance.
• Warranty applies only if repairs or alterations are made by authorized personnel.
• Never attempt to lift the mobile lift unit by the handlebar.
• Ensure that there are no obstacles or people in the way of the lift.
• Never stand on the lift during operation. Always walk behind the lift.
• Low speed is recommended when a user is seated in a sling attached to the lift.
• The lift must not be used in oxygent-enriched environments.
• Handle the battery with care. Do not drop.
• Use only batteries, cables and chargers intended for EvaDrive.
• If a lift is attempted at an angle, a safety function will temporarily pause the lifting motion. Ensure that
the EvaDrive is correctly positioned over the user, or let the EvaDrive position itself with the brakes
unlocked. Once the lift is in its correct position, the lifting motion will automatically be resumed.

Safe working load
Different products on the same lift system (lift unit, sling and other lifting accessories) may have different allowable safe
working loads. The lowest allowable safe working load always determines the safe working load of the assembled
system. Always check the safe working loads for the lift and accessories before use. Contact your local Handicare
representative or dealer if you have any questions.

Description of functions and symbols
EvaDrive has many built-in functions. Each function is described in the respective section in the user manual, or in the
user manual for the respective accessory. Below is a brief description of the functions that are available for caregivers

Information panel
Red indicator light - Solid red light indicates that service is required. Blinking at the same time as
one of the lights on the battery scale: error code, see troubleshooting. Blinking at the same time
as the lights on the battery scale are not on indicates that the battery must be charged.
Yellow indicator light - Solid light indicates rear wheels are turned. The lift can then only be moved
sideways. Light turned off indicates that the rear wheels are in normal position and the lift can be
driven forward/backward.
Green indicator light - Solid light indicates low speed. Blinking indicates the need for calibration.
(Switch off, wait fot 10 seconds and swich back on.) No light, normal condition.
Battery level - Solid light indicates battery capacity remaining. Blinking light indicates error. A
service technician can determine the source of the error.
Power button - Press lightly to activate EvaDrive. (Wait about 2 seconds before operating.)
Press again to deactivate EvaDrive.
Low speed button - Press once to set the system for low speed (green light switches on); press
again to resume normal operation (light switches off).
Rear wheel direction controls - Press the left button to set the rear wheels at an optional angle.
Press the right button to resume normal wheel setting. Motion ceases as soon as pressure on
the buttons is released.
Preventative service/maintenance
The symbol for service/maintenance lights up automatically when the lift unit has been in service for 12 months.
Contact an authorized Handicare service technician for maintenance and resetting.

Operation
Press the power button once to activate EvaDrive. The lift is ready for opera-
tion after about 2 seconds.
No load should be applied to the handlebar or the orange safety switch when
the lift is being started; calibration takes place instantaneously when the the
system is starting up. Grasp the handlebar, including the safety switch, and
apply pressure to the handlebar in the desired direction of travel; the lift will
then begin to move. The handlebar senses the desired speed and direction
of travel, and adapts to the right level. Transfer/movement of the lift is
more gentle and more even if the arms are somewhat relaxed while
manoeuvring the lift. To turn, simply apply a light pressure to the
handlebar in the desired direction.
NOTE! Only minimal pressure is required to manoeuvre EvaDrive, regardless of
the load on the lift.
Safety check before starting
After starting the lift, do not touch the handlebar for a few seconds to allow the lift to automatically calibrate. While this
is happening, the green light beside the low-speed button will blink quickly; operation of the lift is not possible until
EvaDrive has completed automatic calibration.
If the handlebar is hit violently or subjected to impact, the sensors’ neutral values can be affected so much that the
blinking warning will not stop. In this case, manual calibration must be done according to the following instructions.
Manual calibration of EvaDrive
Hold the orange safety switch in while EvaDRive is starting up. This will cause the green light to blink slowly. Continue to
hold the safety switch in for about 5 seconds until the green light starts to blink faster. Release the safety switch and do
not touch the handlebar until the green light stops blinking (after about 10 seconds).
Using the parking brakes
The parking brakes are activated by being pushed down and deactivated by being
pushed up wards.
When the brakes are activated they are automatic and only switched on when the lifts
is standing still and are released when a signal is given trough the handlebar. A click is
heard when the brakes are switched on or off. When the brakes are deactivated the
lift can be moved manually even though it moves easier if the drive system is shut off.
It is recommended that the brakes are deactivated during lifts.

Troubleshooting
The green light blinks, but stops after a while. Automatic calibration complete
The green light blinks. - Manual calibration is required, see section on manual
calibration.
- Check to ensure that no load was applied to the
handlebar when the lift was started e.g., that nothing was
hanging on the handlebar. In that case, remove it and the
green light will stop blinking.
All or parts of the battery scale blink quickly. Something is wrong with the lift’s electrical system.
Restart EvaDrive. If there is still a problem, contact
Handicare.

If unusual sounds are heard: - Try to locate the source of the sound.
- Take the lift unit out of service and contact Handicare.
The lift cannot be started - Check the battery switch.
- Check battery connection.
- Connect charger and charge for at least 2 hours.

Optimal pattern of operation
Normal travel in corridors and open areas
Ensure that the rear wheels are in the normal position, see Fig. 1.
Grasp the handlebar and hold in the safety switch, then move the lift. The lift
will sense both the desired direction of travel and speed. The lift has a greater
turning radius at this setting.
When manoeuvring in confined areas the rear castor wheel function can be used
to advantage. Manoeuvre the lift as far as possible at this setting, then press
the button for rear wheel adjustment and hold it pressed in until the desired
wheel angle is obtained, see Fig. 2. The yellow LED light on the control panel
indicates that the wheels are in the turned position. Grasp the handlebar and
hold in the safety switch, then turn the lift in the desired direction to rotate.
If the button for rear wheel adjustment is held in until the wheels stop in their
outermost position, the lift can be moved all the way to one side, see Fig. 3;
This setting can be very useful for repositioning the user further up in bed,
for example. If the low-speed symbol is pressed, the max. speed is limited,
thereby enabling greater precision in confined spaces.
NOTE! Be aware of the pinch point when the rear wheels are turning.

Battery charging
Always charge the lift after use to ensure that the battery is fully charged.
Charging procedure:
• Connect the charger cable to the batterypack, plug in
the wall socket and switch on at plug socket.
• Check to ensure that the light on the charger lights up and that
the battery’s power switch is switched on!
• Charging stops automatically when battery is fully charged.
NOTE! The lift must be charged for at least 10 hours before it is used for the first time. For maximum service life,
charge batteries regularly. We recommend daily charging when the lift is used daily.
Only the dedicated charger may be used.
Emergency stop
Emergency stop: Press the emergency-stop button on the EvaDrive cover. Emergency stop switches off all of the lift’s
electrical functions. The battery scale continues to light continuously.
Resetting: Turn the emergency-stop button in the direction of the arrows until the button pops out.
Compatibility
EvaDrive is adapted for Eva450EE (60900002) and Eva600EE (60900003).
1. The green LED light confirms that the charger
is connected to the power outlet and is receiving
power.
2. Red light indicates charging.
3. Green light indicates full charge.
Changing the battery
Loosen the two screws that holds the handlebar using an Allen key, and move
up wards as far as possible. Remove the battery cable. Slide the battery off
the rails on the on the backplate mounted on the mast.
Slide the new battery into the rails. reattach the handlebar and the battery cable.
Handle the battery with care. Do not drop.

Maintenance
The lift must undergo thorough inspection at least once per year. Inspection must be performed by authorized personnel
and in accordance with Handicare’s service manual.
Repairs and maintenance may only be done by authorized personnel using original spare parts.
Used batteries are to be left at the nearest recycling station. Used batteries can also be returned to
Handicare or a Handicare dealer for recycling.

Cleaning/disinfection
If necessary, clean the lift with warm water or a soap solution and check that the castors are free from dirt and hair. Do
not use cleaning agents containing phenol or chlorine, as this could damage the aluminium and the plastic materials.
If disinfection is needed, 70 % ethanol, 45 % isopropanol or similar should be used. Disinfect the parts that come in
contact with a user before the lift is used for the next user.
Storage and transportation
If the lift is not to be used for some time or e.g., during transport, we recommend that the emergency stop button be
pressed in. The lift should be transported and stored in -10 ° C to + 50 ° C and in normal humidity, 30% -75 %. The air
pressure should be between 700 and 1060 hPa. Let the lift reach room temperature before the batteries are charged or
the lift is used.

Recommended separation distances between portable and mobile RF communications
equipment and the EvaDrive
The EVADRIVE is intended for use in an electromagnetic environment in which radiated RF
disturbances are controlled. The customer or the user of the EvaDrive can help prevent
electromagnetic interference by maintaining a minimum distance between portable and mobile
RF communications equipment (transmitters) and the EvaDrive as recommended below,
according to the maximum output power of the communications equipment.

For transmitters rated at a maximum output power not listed above, the recommended separation
distance din meters (m) can be estimated using the equation applicable to the frequency of the
transmitter, where Pis the maximum output power rating of the transmitter in watts (W) according
to the transmitter manufacturer.
Note 1: At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the separation distance for the higher frequency range applies.
Note 2: These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected
by absorption and reflection from structures, objects and people.
