Leave this manual with party responsible for use
and operation.
CAUTION! Risk of Cuts or Abrasions. Wear protective
gloves and safety glasses during installation.
NOTICE: Handle refractory panels with care. Refractory
may chip or crack if dropped or impacted.

DANGER

A barrier designed to reduce the risk of
burns from the hot viewing glass is provided
with this appliance and shall be installed for
the protection of children and other at-risk
individuals.
PREPARATION
It will be necessary to remove the existing refractory panels
and base refractory prior to beginning installation of the new
components. See Figure 1. Once those components are
removed the firebox will look similar to Figure 2.
Note: On older models, it may be necessary to remove the
grate in order to remove the rear refractory.

4. Place one of the white side spacers on the right side of
firebox and slide into place as shown in Figure 5.
Spacer will be flush with firebox lip when installed
properly.

3. Ensuring that rear spacer is properly in place and tight
to rear wall, install rear glass panel with arch down as
shown in Figure 4.

INSTALLATION
1. Examine the firebox and be sure that the corners are free
from debris. There could be issues with fit up of refractory
if firebox is not clear of debris. See Figure 2.
2. Place rear white refractory spacer with the arch down
as shown in Figure 3. The holes in the spacer should
align with the screws in the firebox when installed
correctly.

6. Install the right glass panel by inserting it in the loca-
tion shown in Figure 7. Slide the glass rearward until
it contacts the rear glass panel.
8. Install the left glass panel by inserting it in the location
shown in Figure 9. Slide the glass rearward until it
contacts the rear glass panel.

5. Install the other white side spacer on the left side of
firebox as shown in Figure 6. The spacer will be flush
with the firebox lip when installed properly.

7. Bend tabs over to retain glass. See Figure 8.

13. Place left rear base refractory into appliance as shown
in Figure 14. Rotate refractory into position by placing
right edge of part on firebox bottom, pulling tight to the
grate leg matching cut with leg and dropping left side of
refractory piece into place.

12. Install the right base refractory by setting the left edge
on the firebox bottom. Place it adjacent to the grate
and move the right side downward into place. Ensure
that the front lip of the base refractory is flush with the
firebox edge. See Figure 13 and Figure 16.

11. Install top refractory as shown in Figure 12. The lip of
the top panel will sit on the side spacers and side glass
refractory as shown. Apply firm pressure to top refrac-
tory leading edge to ensure that the refractory is fully
seated in the rear of the appliance.

10. HEIR42H-IFT/HEIR42T-IFT Only: It may be necessary
to remove the upper refractory clips. Remove the clip(s)
from the appliance. The screws MUST be reinstalled
into the same holes from which they were removed.
WARNING! Risk of Asphyxiation! DO NOT leave holes
open! Screws from refractory clip removal MUST be rein-
stalled in same holes as removed to maintain firebox seal.
See Figure 11.

* Outlines on Figures 13, 14, 15 and 17 show the correct
placement of refractory. Refractory parts must be flush
with both bases, spacers and panels.
16. Install center base refractory with seams aligned as
shown in Figure 17. Be sure that the refractory is
flush with firebox lip, and the rear portion of the center
refractory is resting on the refractory spacer that was
installed in the previous step.
14. Install left front base refractory as shown in Figure 15,
ensuring that the front lip is flush with the firebox. See
Figure 15 and Figure 17.

15. Install refractory spacer approximately nine inches from
the front edge of the appliance. Position it as shown in
Figure 16 centered under the grate with the point facing
up. The refractory spacer prevents turbulence under the
center refractory. The absence of turbulence promotes
sharper looking flames. See Figures 16 and 17.

18. Install finish trim on the right side as shown in Figure
19. Slip the tab of the trim behind the refractory tab and
push into position until it is flush with the outer edge of
the firebox. Repeat process for the left side.
19. Figure 20 shows finish trim installed correctly.

17. The finish strip will be installed over visible spacers that
can be seen in Figure 18.
