Please read this manual carefully before you operate your Colposcope
We thank you for choosing the Henry Schein Colposcope II. This precisely built, durable
instrument should give you years of service to even the busiest office practice. Our technical
and customer support departments stand ready to assist you with any questions or comments
you may have.
If need an accessory or spare part, please contact your local distributor.
SAFETY, GENERAL INFORMATION
The Colposcope described in this manual is designed to be used by properly trained personnel
in a suitably equipped practice/exam facility. For the correct and safe use of this Colposcope
it is essential that personnel follow generally accepted safe procedures in addition to the safety
precautions called for in this manual.
The internal components of the illumination base can be hazardous due to high voltage and its
cover should not be removed except for bulb replacement (always unplug before changing a
bulb). ANY Servicing must be done by an authorized person.
Please carefully read the Safety, Electrical, Warning, Performance instructions below.
Safety
This Colposcope has been designed and tested in accordance with EN 61010 Safety
Requirements for Electrical Equipment for Measurement, Control, and Laboratory Use. This
Colposcope has been supplied in a safe condition. Read the following before installing and
using the instrument and its accessories.
Electrical
Before switching on the Colposcope, make sure it is set to the voltage of the local power
supply. Using the wrong supply voltage can damage the instrument.
The main plug shall be inserted in a socket provided with a grounded protective earth contact.
Warning
Any interruption of the protective conductor inside or outside the Colposcope or disconnection
of the protective earth terminal has the potential to make the Colposcope dangerous.
Intentional interruption is prohibited. Whenever it is likely that the protection has been
impaired, the Colposcope shall be made inoperative and be secured against any unintended
operation.

The protection is likely to be impaired if, for example, the apparatus
Shows visible damage
Fails to perform the intended measurements
Has been subjected to prolonged storage under unfavorable conditions
Has been subjected to severe transport.
Bulb may be very hot. Never touch the lamp/bulb and/or the inside of the light source and bulb
holder before it cools down.
Moving instrument: Before moving the Colposcope, disconnect the power cable.
Place of use: The instrument is only for indoor use.
Servicing: Repairs may only be carried out only by trained service technicians, or by authorized
personnel.
Working Environment
The optimum environment for the Colposcope is as follows:
Temperature 5 –35 C (41-95 °F)
Humidity 85 %
INTENDED USE
The Colposcope is an optical instrument for use as a diagnostic aide.
The system includes three main components:
1. Stereo microscope head with zoom magnification optics
2. LED light source
3. Center-post stand and base (570-148 and 570-149)
BASE AND THE CENTER-POST STAND ASSEMBLY
The base is preassembled. No assembly is required.
The center-post stand consists of two pieces:
-upper post with focusing mount and LED illuminator;
-lower with illuminator control box.
To assemble the center-post stand and base follow the procedures below:
1. Unpack the box containing the 5-leg base (preassembled) and put it on a flat surface.
2. Unpack the box containing the center-post components (preassembled upper post with
focusing mount and lower post with illumination mounted on).
3. Install the lower post into the mounting hole of the base. Insert the bolt through the
bottom of the base in to threaded hole of the post. Tighten using the Allen wrench
provided. IMPORTANT: Make sure the bolt is securely tightened!

4. Insert the bottom end of the upper post into the top hole of the lower post. There is a
supporting suspension spring installed in the hole of the lower post. Push the upper post to
set the proper height tighten the black knob. Loose this knob to adjust the height of the
post as needed.
5. Insert the fiber optics cable into the cable port and lock the cable with the screw.
ZOOM HEAD INSTALLATION AND MOUNTING:
1. Insert the Colposcope head into the focusing mount (Fig. 5).
2. Tighten the two locking screws (4) by hand (Fig. 5).
3. Insert the eyepieces into the eyepiece tubes of the binocular or trinocular head (Fig. 6).
Care should be taken to keep eyepieces in an upright position as they might slip out and
fall if the head is inverted.
4. Screw the objective lens clockwise onto the bottom of the Colposcope head (Fig. 7).

ZOOM HEAD ADJUSTMENT
1. Simply loosen the thumbscrews; reposition the head and retighten (Figs. 10 and 11).
2. Invert the mount; you can use as either a Colposcope or an upright zoom microscope.
3. Care should be taken to keep eyepieces in an upright position as they may slip out if
inverted, and could be damaged.
4. When changing the eyepieces, hold the Colposcope head with the eyepieces upright,
gently slide the eyepieces from their eye tubes.
5. To replace, gently push the eyepieces back into the eye tubes assuring that they are fully
seated.
6. Do not touch the lenses when handling eyepieces.

With 20X eyepiece and 0.3X objective lens:
At the lowest setting of the magnification power knob (0.67), the total magnification is 20×0.67×0.27=3.9X
At the highest setting of the magnification power knob (4.5), the total magnification is 20×4.5×0.3= 27X
OPERATION
Turn the On/Off switch to “ON”and adjust the light intensity by turning the adjustment
knob.
Make sure that the eyepieces are installed in the binocular or trinocular head and that the
head is secured in the focusing mount.
Procedures of Focusing and Focusing Tension Adjustments
1. Set the intended viewing spot of the examination to the center of view field using the
handles (Fig.18).

2. Use the handles and focusing knob to locate and focus on the surface of the specimen
(Fig. 19).

3. The tension of the focusing knobs has been pre-set by factory technicians. However
you may want to readjust the tension of the focusing knobs to your desired level.
Follow the procedures below.
Increase Focusing Tension:
To increase the focusing tension, hold the left knob with your left hand; use your right
hand to turn the right knob clockwise. To check the tension, release your left hand and
rotate the knob with either or both hands in the same direction. If it is not tight enough,
repeat the above step until the proper tension is set.
(Note: If the tension is too tight, please follow the “Decrease Focusing Tension”
procedure to adjust to make adjustments).
Decrease Focusing Tension:
To decrease the focusing tension, hold the left knob with your left hand; use your right
hand to turn the right knob COUNTER clockwise. To check the tension, release your
left hand and rotate the knob with either or both hands in the same direction. If it is not
loose enough, repeat the above step until the proper tension is set.
(Note: If the tension is too loose, please follow the “Increase Focusing Tension”
procedure to adjust to make adjustments).
Zoom Head Adjustments and Setting Procedures
1. Interpupillary Distance Adjustment: Adjust the interpupillary distance (distance
between your eyes) (Fig. 20) until you get a single non-overlapping image by rotating
the binocular eyepiece tubes to adjust the interpupillary distance (between 55mm to
75mm).

2. Focusing: The Colposcope allows the observer to see the object’s being viewed in 3-D,
three dimensions. This means the viewer is able to perceive height and depth of field.
To do this, the images coming from the binocular eyepieces must be form a single
image for the observer. After the interpupillary distance has been properly set, the
eyetube diopters may also need to be adjusted. This adjustment allows the focus to
remain sharp in both eyepieces through the whole zoom range. Please follow the
procedures to set the zoom head:
A) Rotate the zoom knobs to the highest power 4.5x (Fig. 21). Set the diopters on
both eyepiece tubes to “0” (Fig.22). Then use the focusing knobs on the
Colposcope to focus sharply on the specimen.

B) Rotate the zoom knobs to get the lowest power 0.67x (Fig. 23). DO NOT
TOUCH the focusing knob on the focusing mount.

C) Look through the right eyepiece; rotate the eyetube (Fig. 24) until the image is
precisely in focus (the diopter is now properly set). Do the same for the left
eyepiece to set the diopter.

D) Bring the zoom to the highest power (4.5X) again. If the image is not in sharp
focus, use the focusing knob on the focusing mount to bring the specimen in
focus. The image should remain sharp throughout the entire zoom range.

Ratio of zoom head magnification is 1:6.7 (0.67X-4.5X).
Eyepieces: Standard WF20X/11.5mm. Optional WFH10X/22mm, WF15X/16mm.
Objective Lens 0.3X (standard).

Magnification: 3.9X-27X (with 0.3X objective and WF20X eyepiece).
Inclination of binocular tube: 45°-90°adjustable.
Adjustment of interpupillary: 55mm-75mm.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE:
General:
1. During both operation and storage, avoid airborne contaminants and moisture.
2. Protect the instrument with a dust cover when it is not in use.
3. DISCONNECT the power cord before replacing the bulb. Allow the bulb to cool
before replacing with a new bulb.
Cleaning:
1. Use filtered air and a camel hair brush to remove dust particles from the optical
surfaces.
2. For routine cleaning, use a clean cotton swab and lens cleaner.
3. For difficult spots or stains, use a lens cleaning solution designed for coated optics and
a clean lint-free cloth or lens tissue.
