Note : Read carefully the following information as it is critical to the user’s understanding of the
actuator installation and operation procedures. This manual contains important safety
information. Please ensure it is thoroughly read and understood before installing, operating
or performing maintenance procedures for equipment.

This manual contains critical information related to the operation of the
HM
series
Actuators
. It
is crucial that only trained personnel who understands thoroughly the setup, operations,
controls and inspection procedures due to safety concerns. Follow the manual guidelines
before setup. When misused, the Actuator can cause harm, severe injury or even death due
to high voltages and forces involved. It is highly recommended to request for training prior to
use.
Take extreme care when operating environments exceeds the range of -20°C~80°C. The
Actuator is intended to operate between the given ranges on the nameplate of each actuator.
In the case where products are exposed to temperature ranges that exceed the allowed
range, do not check for damage as it could result in severe injury. Consult with the
manufacturer as soon as possible. Do not attempt to alter the Actuator physically as this
could lead to leakage and malfunction of the product. Before performing maintenance in
potentially hazardous areas, make sure all electrical supplies are shutdown and actuator
relocated to an environmentally safe location.
WARNING
Housing Material: Up to the HM010~035 of the
HM-Series
, Aluminium is processed
to manufacture the housing. Bolts etc are manufactured of stainless steel and base
from Cast Iron. The Models from HM40 ~ IQ90 are a mixture of Aluminium and
Ductile Iron. Before operating an

the user must verify environmental
compatibility to avoid chemical corrosion. Study to determine safety must be
conducted before use.
Self-heating motor temperature: In normal operation mode the temperature of the
Actuator cover may exceed 60⁰C and advise great caution when handling.
Motor thermal protection (By Pass): Whenever the configurations are set to
bypass the Actuator cover temperature, any Hazardous area handling certificates
becomes invalid. Keep in mind hen using this mode that the risk of electrical danger

2.2 Initial inspection
When the inspecting the actuator, check the product for damage and ensure the name plate
concurs with the order sheet.
Remove packaging wrap or wooden box carefully. Inspect the product for any
physical damage that may have occurred during shipment.
Check the product specification with product ordered. If an incorrect product has
been shipped, immediately report the issue to our coordinators.
2.3 Storage
Actuators must be stored in a clean, cool and dry area. The unit shall be stored with
the cover installed and the conduit openings sealed. Storage must be off the floor,
covered with a sealed dust protector. When placing an Actuator outdoors, they must
be stored off the ground, high enough to prevent being immersed in water or buried
in snow. If the Actuator cannot be placed immediately, make sure to store it in a dry
area. It is recommended that if the Actuator cables cannot be installed immediately
use the plastic plug with PTFE tape to block/seal where the metal plugs are located.
When sealed correctly, the internal electronics are preserved from external corrosion
for extended periods of time (up to 1 year). Note that there is no need, when working
on the Actuator, to remove any electronics. If the control cover is removed, the
warranty may be void. Each individual Actuator will be tested before delivered hence,
given instructions have been correctly followed, setup and operation should be
smooth.
3 General Information and Features
3.1 General
HM series electric multi-turn actuators are controlled via the Smart Intelligent actuator
system and suitable for various industrial plants such as ship construction, power
plants, petrochemical semiconductor plants and many other high-end industrial
uses. Additionally, depending on the specific application, 9 different models are
available.

3.6 Hand wheel and Declutching
HM actuators provide a declutch-able manual override system.
In order to manually operate the actuator, Push the manual override
engagement lever towards the hand wheel until it remains in position.
Turn the hand wheel until the valve reaches the required position

Short – time duty S2 Intermittent duty S4
The operation time at a constant load is short,
so that thermal equilibrium is not reached.
The pause is long enough for the machine to
cool down to ambient temperature. The
duration of the short –time operation is limited
to 15min (10min, 30min)
The duty is a sequence of identical cycles
which consist of the starting time, operation
time with constant load and rest period. The
rest period allows the machine to cool down
so that thermal overload is not reached. The
relative on-time at S4-25% or S4-50% is
limited to 25% and 50% respectively.

3.7 Lubrication
HM is a totally enclosed unit with a permanently lubricated gear train (Moly EP Grease). Once
installed, lubrication should not be required. However, periodic preventative maintenance will
extend the operating life of the actuator.

4 Installation and operation Instruction
4.1 Pre-Installation for
use in general service
Verify the actuators nameplate to insure correct model number, torque, operating speed,
voltage and enclosure type before installation or operation.
It is important to verify that the output torque of the actuator is appropriate for the torque
requirements of the valve and that the actuator duty cycle is appropriate for the intended
application.

Installation, commissioning, maintenance, repairs and modification work must only be
performed by qualified personnel with extensive knowledge on how to work on explosion-proof
electrical equipment.

Read this installation and maintenance manual carefully and completely
before attempting to install, operate, or troubleshoot any HKC actuator.
4.2 Actuator Mounting
Note :
Prior to mounting, the actuator must be checked for any damage.
Damaged parts must be replaced by original spare parts.
Mounting is most easily carried out with the valve shaft pointing vertically upward. But
mounting is also possible in any other position.
The actuator may be mounted in any position
The HM- Series actuators are supplied with a female drive output. ISO5210&5211 or MSS
SP-101. Bolt patterns are provided for actuator mounting. The actuator drive bush is
removable for ease of machining.
It is mandatory that the actuator be firmly secured to a sturdy mounting bracket or directly
mounted to the valve’s ISO mounting pad. High tensile bolts or studs with spring locking
washers must be used.
The valve output shaft must be inline with the actuator output drive to avoid side-loading the
shaft. To avoid any backlash no flexibility in the mounting bracket or mounting should be
allowed.

Do not attempt to work on your HKC actuator without first shutting off all
incoming power.
Do not attach ropes or hooks to the hand wheel for the purpose of lifting by
hoist.

4.3.3 Thrust Base Drive Bush disassembly instructions
This applies to the Bronze Drive Bush case when thrust is applied to the valve.
To process parts in addition to better fit the dimensions the Drive bushing is separated from
the Actuator.
Disassembly
1. Disassemble the bearing Stop Ring’s lock socket set.
2. After separating from the Drive Bush, push the bearing out. Store the Drive Bush and
Stop Ring in a safe and clean place.
3. When processing the drive bush, make sure it is not damaged. This applies similarly to
the O-Ring located on the upper part of the Drive Bush. When working on the Drive Bush,
make sure all measurements and calculations for the valve stem is correct. Make sure
the protective bearing’s O-Ring is not damaged.
Assembly
1. Remove foreign particles on the Drive Bushing. Once clean do the same for the Stop
Ring and other O-Rings. Make sure there is enough grease present. Make sure all O-rings
are not damaged.
2. Push the Bearing assembly and check that the Drive Bushing has securely assembled.
3. Tighten the Stop Ring lock set bolts manually. This also applies the Socket lock set bolts.
4. After assembling the Drive Bushing with Actuator Base tighten the Stop Ring Holder,
with wrench, the head bolts (M4 :2.2Nm M6:7.8Nm).

4.3.4 Drive Bush Disassembly: Non Thrust Base
1. Loosen the bolts, which secure the base and body.
2. Using tools loosen the securing clips from the Drive Bush and pull, the centre column
for the Actuator separates. Many difference Valve combinations can be achieved on
customer request. It is worthwhile to note that there are various options, for Base and
Drive Bush, which have not been included in this document.
4.7 Electrical Connections and Preliminary Test
Warning ;
When working in potentially explosive areas, observe the European Standards
EN 60079-14 “Electrical Installations in Hazardous Areas” and EN 60079-17
“Inspection and Maintenance of Electrical Installations in Hazardous Areas”.
Work on the electrical system or equipment must only be carried out by a
skilled electrician himself or by specially instructed personnel under the
control and supervision of such an electrician and in accordance with the
applicable electrical engineering rules.
For cable gland or conduit entries that are not used, user or installer shall
close by certified blanking elements so that the flameproof properties of the
enclosure are maintained
Flameproof enclosure! Treat cover with care. Gap surfaces must not be
damaged in any way. Do not jam cover during fitting.
Do not disassemble the cover and the window arbitrarily at site. (confirmation
with the factory is highly recommended).
Do not disassemble the base from the actuator body arbitrarily at site
(confirmation with the factory is highly recommended).
Loosen the screws on the actuator cover and to lift it off.
Make sure that power supply voltage is in accordance with the data on the actuator
nameplate
Pass cables through the cable glands : PF 1“,1½” NPT1“,1½”
For more hazardous environments use suitable reducers, glands or conduits.
When using the Actuator in a Factory, ensure suitable plastic plugs are instead used.
Conduits that are not in use shall be sealed with steel or brass threaded plugs. Suitable
plugs and parts must be used in more dangerous environments

Connect wires according to the enclosed wiring diaphragm
Move the valve manually to an half-open position, perform an electrical
OPEN operation and check that the motor rotates in the right direction
Standard units are counter-clockwise to open set
Test the actuator and check the limit switches work correctly
Check that all cable glands are correctly tighten
Applicable cable glands should be selected to meet the application conditions.
In potentially explosive environments, cable gland grades exceeding IP67 are
recommended. When fitting the cover, verify that the O-rings are in working condition
before operations.

5 Maintenance
5.1 Maintenance
Caution :
Turn off all power services before attempting to perform service on the
actuator. POTENTIAL HIGH PRESSURE VESSEL. Before removing or
disassembling your actuator, ensure that the valve or other actuated
devices are isolated and not under pressure.
Maintenance is recommended, under normal conditions, in six month intervals. But when
conditions are more severe, more frequent inspections are advised.
Insure valve actuator alignment
Insure wiring is insulated, connected and terminated properly
Insure all screws are present and tight
Insure cleanliness of internal electrical devices
Insure conduit connections are installed properly and are dry
Check internal devices for condensation
Check enclosure O-ring seals and verify that the O-rings are not pinched
between flanges
Verify declutch mechanism
Visually inspect during open/close cycle
Inspect identification labels for ware and replace if necessary
Warning ;
