INSTALLATION AND SETUP GUIDE
SYSTEM OVERVIEW
Introduction
The LYNXDM-GSM and LYNXDM-IGSM are desk or wall mounted communications modules for the LYNXR-I
Series control panel. Each module is equipped with an integral AlarmNet 7845GSM Digital Cellular or 7845-
iGSM Internet Communication Module with Remote Services. It represents the latest and most innovative
communication technology for the security industry and uses the most sophisticated encryption to ensure the
highest level of security for your customer.
The LYNXDM-GSM and LYNXDM-IGSM modules require an AlarmNet–i account. For new installations,
please obtain the account information from the central station prior to programming this module.
General Information
LYNXDM-GSM
Honeywell's LYNXDM-GSM cellular communication module transmits signals via the AlarmNet-G network
(GSM cellular network), using GPRS and forwards them to your Central Station. If the GPRS network is
unavailable, the LYNXDM-GSM (if enabled by the dealer) will attempt to send the transmission via SMS
(Short Message Service and/or e-mail).
LYNXDM-IGSM
Honeywell’s LYNXDM-IGSM Internet communication module communicates from your customer’s network
connection to the Honeywell NOC via the AlarmNet-I network. The NOC receives data and routes the
information to the Central Station of your choice, based on the account number you assign to the module. The
same account number is used for both Internet and GSM transmissions. If, for some reason, Internet
connectivity is not available (for example, your customer’s ISP is off line or disconnected), the LYNXDM-IGSM
will transmit signals via the AlarmNet-G (GSM) cellular network, using GPRS. These transmissions are sent to
the Honeywell NOC and then forwarded to your Central Station exactly the same way as if they were received
via the Internet.
If the Internet AND GPRS are both unavailable, the LYNXDM-IGSM will attempt to send the transmission via
SMS, also known as a text message. If all three methods fail, the module will attempt to deliver the alarm until
the alarm time expires. Once the old alarm time has expired, the alarm is dead and will not be delivered.
About AlarmNet-I Internet Application
AlarmNet-I is a fully encrypted, secure method of delivering alarm messages from a protected premise to an
AlarmNet equipped central station. An Internet Communicator Module transmits status, supervisory, and
alarm messages to the AlarmNet Control Center using a broadband Internet connection. The AlarmNet Control
Center identifies, validates, and forwards the messages to the appropriate AlarmNet central station.
Encryption
The LYNXDM-IGSM supports private key encryption. Private key encryption means that both the sender and
the receiver know the KEY used to encrypt the data. Each device produced by Honeywell is loaded with a
globally unique identifier called a MAC number, and a large random number or KEY. This KEY and MAC
number are also stored in the AlarmNet servers. When a device contacts AlarmNet, it sends the MAC number
in the clear followed by the message that is encrypted using the KEY data. The server looks up its copy of the
KEY based on the MAC number and uses that KEY to decrypt the message.
The LYNXDM-IGSM uses 256 bit AES (Rijndael) encryption (which is required for certain government
installations). The AlarmNet-I AES Encryption Software Module Version 1.0 contained in the Honeywell
products has NIST approval. Listings for this approval can be found at
http://csrc.nist.gov/cryptval/aes/aesval.html Certification number 127.

The LYNXDM-GSM and LYNXDM-IGSM provide the following types of supervision and module fault detection:
•Network communication failure: In the event the AlarmNet network does not hear a supervisory message
from the module within a specified time (“Supervision” option, 24 hours, 30 days, or none), AlarmNet
notifies the central station of a communication failure.
•Communication path failure: In the event the module detects a communication path failure, the control
panel can be notified of a trouble condition with the module after a specified time has elapsed.
Remote Services Features
The Remote Services Features can only be used with LYNXR-I Series controls Revision 16 or later. Multi
Mode (E-mail notification) is intended as a convenience for the user, and does not replace Central Station
reporting of critical events (alarms, troubles, etc.).
Remote Services allow the end user to communicate with their Security System remotely via several features.
Availability of this service is controlled by the dealer via the web-based programming tool on the AlarmNet
Direct website. Once enabled, the specific programming fields associated with these features can be
programmed either remotely using the AlarmNet Direct website or locally using the 7720P Programming Tool.
These new web services will allow users to:
•Receive e-mail and text message notification of system events (Multi-Mode feature)
•Access their security system from a computer via a website (Remote Access feature)
•Perform system functions and receive confirmations using text messages (SMS feature)
INSTALLATION
The incoming wiring can be routed through the opening in the rear of the back plate or through the wire
troughs in the mount’s case back. A wire knockout is also provided in the desk mount front case.
Installing the desk mount
1. Route the incoming power, telephone and/or internet wiring through the appropriate openings in the
mount’s rear case.
2. Route incoming power, telephone and communications, etc. wiring through the mount’s front case.
3. Proceed to Wiring the LYNXR-I or LYNXR-ISIA section.
Installing the wall mount
1. Locate the rear case over the mounting surface such that the opening in the case is aligned with the
wire/cable access opening (in the mounting surface).
If the wiring will be run externally, it should be routed through the wire troughs in the wall mount case back.

2. Route the incoming power, telephone and/or internet wiring through the appropriate openings in the
mount’s rear case.
3. Mount the rear case to a sturdy wall using the four screws (supplied).
4. Route incoming power, telephone and communications, etc. wiring through the mount’s front case.
5. Proceed to Wiring the LYNXR-I or LYNXR-ISIA section.

Wiring the LYNXR-I or LYNXR-ISIA
1. Release the LYNXR-I front case assembly from the rear case by depressing the two locking tabs at the top
of the unit with the blade of a medium size screwdriver (refer to Figure 2).
2. Once these tabs have been released, insert the screwdriver in the side of the case and release the side
locking tabs by gently twisting.

DO NOT disconnect the ribbon cable from the terminal strip board. Disconnect the cable only from the front
assembly board.
3. Carefully disconnect the ribbon cable from the front assembly, leaving the ribbon cable connected to
the terminal block PC board (refer to Figure 2). The rear case contains the terminal block for making
wiring connections.
When installing the 4-wire communication cable, you may find it easier to make the connection at the LYNXR-I
first. The cable can then be routed through the mount’s front case.
4. Feed the 4-wire communication cable from the LYNXR-I rear case through the mount’s front case.
5. Feed the incoming wiring from the wall or desk mount rear case through the mount’s front case and into
the LYNXR-I rear case.
6. Slide the LYNXR-I onto the wall or desk mount front case locking tabs.
Step 7 only applies to wall mount installations.
7. Once the wires have been routed, the assembled wall mount front case and LYNXR-I rear case can be
hung from the wall mount rear case using three hooks on the inside of the wall mount front case and three
tabs on lower part of the wall mount’s rear case (refer to Figure 3).

8. Connect the 4-wire communication cable connector to the LRR/IP communications port on the LYNXR-I
(refer to figure 4).
9. Make the wiring connections to the LYNXR-I in accordance with the LYNXR-I or LYNXR-ISIA
Installation Instructions.
10. Route the wires as shown in Figure 4.

Wiring the LYNXDM-GSM/LYNXDM-IGSM
1. Install a jumper wire between terminals 2 and 3 on the communication modules’s terminal strip.
2. Connect the 4-wire communication cable to the communication module’s terminal strip (refer to Figure 5).
3. If you are installing a LYNXDM-IGSM, connect the incoming cable/DSL connector to the receptacle on the
communication module.
4. Secure the wiring to the built-in wire loops using tie wraps, as required.
5. After the wiring connections are complete, carefully reconnect the ribbon cable to the LYNXR-I front case
circuit board connector (properly aligning the red wire).
6. Snap the assembled LYNXR-I and the wall or desk mount front case to the mount’s back case so it is
secured by the locking tabs.

Antenna
The LYNXDM-GSM/LYNXDM-IGSM comes equipped with an external antenna that is intended for indoor use.

1. The external (indoor) antenna must be used.
2. AMPS antennas, such as the 7825-OC antenna, cannot be used with this product.
External Antenna
Connecting the external antenna to the port will automatically disconnect the internal antenna.
1. Connect the external indoor antenna onto the LYNXDM-GSM/LYNXDM-IGSM SMA connector.
2. Adjust the antenna as required.

Programming the LYNXDM-GSM or LYNXDM-IGSM
1. Refer to the Programming Guide provided with the LYNXDM-GSM or LYNXDM-IGSM Communications
Module for additional information regarding programming and registration.
2. When programming is complete, snap the front case and the attached LYNXR-I Series control to the rear
case of the wall or desk mount.

digital mobile phone systems used for cellular communication.
GPRS General Packet Radio Service
IP Internet Protocol
IP Address A unique number consisting of four parts separated by periods, sometimes called a
"dotted quad.," for example: 204.17.29.11, assigned to every computer/workstation
connected to the Internet. IP numbers can be "static" (assigned and unchanging) or
"dynamic," assigned via DHCP at each and every startup.

LIMITED WARRANTY
Honeywell International Inc., acting through its Security & Custom Electronics business ("Seller"), 2
Corporate Center Drive, Melville, NY, 11747, warrants its product(s) to be in conformance with its own
plans and specifications and to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use
and service for 24 months from the date stamp control on the product(s) or, for product(s) not having a
manufacturer's date stamp, for 12 months from date of original purchase unless the installation
instructions or catalog sets forth a shorter period, in which case the shorter period shall apply. Seller's
