Overview
For your information
Technical terms are identified by an * and are explained in the
glossary.
Application
− The SmartEye Transmitter is part of the SmartEye System* for
wireless temperature monitoring applications.
− It is a stand-alone battery operated device that measures the
temperature of a wired temperature probe e.g. in a food mobile
casecabinet.
− It sends the temperature & digital input* information to a
SmartEye Receiver* within the building.
− It monitors the state of a digital input that can be used for
applications e.g. defrost inhibit to prevent over-temperature
alarms during defrost cycle.
− SmartEye Transmitters should not be confused with Hometronic
HB30 weathersensor range.
The measured data* is transferred by radio to the SmartEye
Receiver*. This data is used by the rest of the SmartEye system* to
log temperature.

Safety instructions
Caution!
The SmartEye Transmitter has a radio transmitter
whose function can be impaired by metallic objects or
radio devices.
- When selecting the mounting site, ensure that there is
sufficient distance to metallic objects and radio
devices.
- Select a different mounting site if radio interference
occurs.
Information on mounting the SmartEye Transmitter
Best results are achieved when all devices are mounted at a height
where clear RF paths are uninhibited by metal objects.
When selecting the mounting site, ensure that:
− Avoid metal objects directly in the path between SmartEye
Transmitter and the SmartEye Receiver.
− Transmitters and Receivers mounted at height will have RF
communication less impaired by floor objects.

- Mount Transmitter with the back plate facing away from Receiver.
- Mount Receiver vertically i.e. antenna pointing up or down
− Mount Transmitter so that it is easily accessible for Teach-In* and
batterychange
Information on temperature sensor & digital input
Temperature Sensor
Only the approved Temperature sensor (TP002K) may be used. A
non-approved Temperature sensor will result in incorrect
temperature readings.
Digital Input
Refer to installation guide of SmartEye Genus Interface for
configuration of Digital Input. If configured as defrost inhibit, connect
the Digital Input to NO contacts of a relay activated during the
defrost cycle. This will prevent over-temperature alarms during
defrost.
The Digital Input and Common Ground (refer to page 8) must be
wired to voltage-free relay contacts. Closed contacts activate the
input. If the input is left unterminated it will default to a clear state.

Therefore, if the digital input is not required, it can be left
unterminated.
Teach-In Button
Accessing the Teach-In button requires the removal of the battery
lid. This button is located next to the cable assembly socket and is
used during the Teach-In process in the commissioning stage of the
system.
Mounting the SmartEye Transmitter
1. Securing the mounting bracket
The metallic mounting bracket snaps onto the back of the
Transmitter.
When mounting the unit, ensure that the horizontal screw
hole of the mounting bracket is positioned at the top.

- Select a suitable mounting site.
- Use suitable fasteners to secure the mounting
bracket firmly to the mounting surface.
2. Battery Insertion
- Remove the SmartEye Transmitter
from the mounting bracket.
- Open the battery compartment:
–Press in the battery lid.
–Pull up the housing frame.
–Remove the battery lid.
- Remove the used battery cells, if
necessary.
- Dispose of used battery cells in conformance with the local
statutoryrequirements.
Battery cells should not be disposed of in the household
waste.

cells in a certain manner.
Always replace both battery cells.
Only use 1.5 V AA type LR6(mignon) cells e.g. Energizer LR6
or Energizer HI Energy Lithium (longer life span)
- Insert the battery cells into the battery compartment. Ensure that
the polarity is correct!
- Close the battery compartment and insert the Transmitter into the
mounting bracket.
