Site Environment
Do not place this product in an environment with flammable or explosive gases, or smoke.
The installation site must be free from leaking or dripping water or heavy dew. If the relative humidity is high,
use dehumidifiers or air conditioners with dehumidification features.
The installation site must be well ventilated, and the air vents of the router must not be blocked.
Do not place the router in a dusty environment.
Leave more than 100 mm clearance at two sides and the rear of the router for heat dissipation.

WARNING AR515GW-LM9-D and AR515CGW-L are class A products. In a domestic environment, these products may
cause radio interference in which case the user may be required to take the adequate measures.
During installation and maintenance, take ESD protection measures, for example, wear ESD gloves or an ESD
wrist strap.
During router transport, movement, and installation, prevent the router from colliding with objects like doors,
walls, or shelves.
This product is used in restricted scenarios and must be operated by trained personnel.
Do not place other objects on the router.

Installing the Router
Connect cables to the router, bundle the cables with cable ties, and cut off redundant part of cable
ties with diagonal pliers.
Unlock the lock on the router, loosen the captive screws on the hard disk cage, and pull the hard
disk cage out.

Remove the hard disk connector.

Leave at least 100 mm of clearance around the router for heat dissipation.
Do not place other objects on the router.
If there is sufficient space in the vehicle, make the cable outlet side and hard disk side face left and right
respectively to facilitate maintenance.
If there is not sufficient space in the vehicle, make the cable outlet side face outward.

Connect the hard disk connector to the hard disk, use two screws to fix them, and install them in
the hard disk cage.
While holding the hard disk with one hand, use a Phillips screwdriver to tighten the four M3x6
screws at the back of the router.

Insert the hard disk cage into the router, tighten the captive screws on the hard disk cage, and
lock the hard disk cage using the key.

Insert the SIM card into the SIM card holder.

Install the SIM card cover back and fix it with the six screws.

Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the six screws on the SIM card cover, and then remove the
SIM card cover. Keep the screws for later use.

Fix the two mounting brackets on two sides of the router with six M5x10 screws using the Phillips
screwdriver.

Use a measuring tape to determine positions of four mounting holes for the mounting brackets on
the luggage rack. The diameter of each mounting hole is 6 mm.

Use four M5 nuts and bolts to fix the router on the luggage rack.

CAUTION The hard disk enclosure cannot be inserted or removed when the power is on.
Loosen the four screws on the hard disk enclosure using the Phillips screwdriver, and remove
the hard disk cover.
Loosen the four captive screws on the hard disk enclosure using the Phillips screwdriver, and
remove the hard disk tray.

Turn the key counterclockwise until it stops to unlock the hard disk lock, unlock the hard
disk lock, loosen the two fastening screws using the Phillips screwdriver, and pull out the
hard disk enclosure.

Install the hard disk tray to the hard disk enclosure, hold the connector in place, and then tighten
the four captive screws.
Install the hard disk cover back to the router, and then tighten the four screws.

Install a SIM card into the router.

Use the Phillips torque screwdriver to tighten the four M3x6 screws on the back of the hard disk
with a torque of 5.5 Kgf.cm to fix the hard disk on the hard disk tray in the correct direction.

b. Insert the SIM card into the SIM card holder. When you hear a click, the SIM card is completely
seated in the holder.
c. Install the SIM card cover back to the router, and then tighten the two screws.

a. Use the Phillips screwdriver to loosen the two screws, and remove the SIM card cover from the
router. Keep the SIM card cover for later use.

Screws on the router must be tightened solid to ensure that the router can sustain long-time
vibration when the vehicle is running.
Sufficient clearance must be reserved around the router for later cable connection and router
maintenance.
Scenario 1 Installing the Router on a Horizontal Plane in a Vehicle
CAUTION
Connect all cables of the router.

Connect cables in the sequence from bottom to top and from right to left. Otherwise, some cables
cannot be connected properly.
If a waterproof cover needs to be installed, ensure that the ground cable is routed downwards.
The 04152259, 04152260, and 04152261 cables need to be wrapped by waterproof tapes to prevent
the power-off caused by water.
Connect the positioning pins on the cable tray to the bottom of the router, and then use the
Phillips screwdriver to tighten the two M4x8 screws to install the cable tray on the router.
In the vertical direction, categorize the cables into six groups based on the port positions, use
cable ties to bundle the cables, and fix them on the holes for binding cables on the cable tray.

CAUTION
Install the router on a horizontal plane in the vehicle.

a. Attach the mounting brackets to the horizontal plane reserved for the router, and mark the
positions of the four mounting holes for the M4 bolts.
b. Secure the router on the plane with four ST4.2 self-tapping screws.
Leave at least 100 mm of clearance around the router for heat dissipation.
Do not place other objects on the router.
If the luggage rack is deep enough, make the cable outlet side and hard disk side face left and
right respectively to facilitate maintenance. Leave at least 400 mm of clearance on the hard disk
enclosure side.
Scenario 2 Installing the Router on a Luggage Rack
Use the Phillips screwdriver to tighten the four M4x10 screws to install the waterproof cover on
the cable tray.

Connect all cables of the router.

Connect cables in the sequence from bottom to top and from right to left. Otherwise, some cables
cannot be connected properly.
If a waterproof cover needs to be installed, ensure that the ground cable is routed downwards.
The 04152259, 04152260, and 04152261 cables need to be wrapped by waterproof tapes to prevent
the power-off caused by water.
Connect the positioning pins on the cable tray to the bottom of the router, and then use the
Phillips screwdriver to tighten the two M4x8 screws to install the cable tray on the router.

NOTE

Determine the positions of the mounting holes on the paperboard based on the distance
between each two of the four self-clinching nuts on the mounting bracket.

Do not connect cables while the power is on.
Do not power on the router before you finish connecting and routing cables.

Connecting the Router
In the vertical direction, categorize the cables into six groups based on the port positions, use
cable ties to bundle the cables, and fix them on the holes for binding cables on the cable tray.

Use the paperboard to determine the position of the router on the luggage rack. Select four
proper M4 pan head screws based on the thickness of the luggage rack, and use the Phillips
screwdriver to tighten the screws from the back of the luggage rack to the four self-clinching nuts.
After the installation, the end of each screw must be at least 2 mm higher than the corresponding
self-clinching nut.

Use the Phillips screwdriver to tighten the four M4x10 screws to install the waterproof cover on
the cable tray.

Use a Console cable to connect a PC to the Console interface of the router.

Start the terminal simulation software, create a connection, specify the connected port, and set
communication parameters as follows:

NOTE If your PC's operating system provides terminal simulation software (like HyperTerminal in Windows 2000), you do
not need to install additional terminal simulation software. If the PC runs on an operating system without terminal
simulation software (like Windows 7), install third-party terminal simulation software on the PC by referring to user
manual or online help.
A PC may have more than one serial port. Select the port to which the RS232 cable is connected. Generally, COM1 is
used. If you modify the serial port communication parameters on the router, modify the communication parameters
on the PC to ensure that they use the same communication parameters, and then set up the connection again.
Bits per second (B): 9600

Stop bits (S): 1
Flow control (F): None
If you forget the login password, restore the password according to the Troubleshooting.
After successful login, you can configure the router on the command line interface. For more information, see the
CLI-based Configuration.
WARNING
NOTE The default user name is admin and the default password is Admin@huawei.
Press Enter until a message is displayed asking you to enter the username and password. (The following
information is for reference only.)

Logging In to the Router
Powering On the Router
NOTE
Indicator states when the router is running normally
Indicator Description

Steady green: The system power supply is normal.
Slow blinking green: The system is running properly.

Turn on the power switch of the external power supply system.

Check the PWR and SYS indicators. If they are in normal states,
check other indicators on the router.
Before powering on the router, complete the following operations:
Connect the power cable.
Verify that the input voltage is within the normal range.

The DC input voltage of the
AR515GW-LM9-D is in the range of
10.8 V to 36 V.
The DC input voltage of the
AR515CGW-L is in the range of 9 V to
36 V.
