4.2 Life time of the Pendel.
The lifetime of the Pendel depends very much on the quality of maintenance and the way
the user is handling the Pendel in daily life. A periodic check (like cars) of the vehicle can
prevent excessive wear and failure. These periodic checks have great influence on the
lifetime of a product. The Pendel can have an economical lifetime of 6-8 years.
Use only original parts supplied by Huka BV or it authorized dealer.
The use of non original parts on a Huka product automatically the
warranty will be void.
Repairs are only to be done by qualified and certified personnel.
Only then the product is factory guaranteed. Damage to the product
as a result of repairs by non authorized persons will automatically
void the warranty on the product or parts.
In case of a defect or technical problem, immediately contact your
local authorized Huka dealer. Don’t use the product until it is repaired.
In exceptional cases, only use the vehicle at very low speed.
Poor maintenance has direct influence of the lifetime of a Pendel.
Damage as a result of poor maintenance is also excluded from the
warranty cover.
Periodic checks (every 6 months) can prevent failure or excessive
wear of part on the products. This can also lead to a longer economic
lifetime of the product.
Incomplete repairs or quick fixings will have a negative influence of
the lifetime of the product. Always have your Pendel repaired by a
authorized Huka dealer.

5. Intended use of the Pendel FD
The Pendel is designed for the transportation of one person inside a manual wheelchair.
This person should have enough physical capacity to control and steer the Pendel FD
without any problems. This means that the hand function of the driver should be in a state
that he or she can control the throttle, brake levers and switches. Also the steering should
be no problem for them as well. The Pendel is classified as a Class C wheelchair.
The wheelchair to fit inside the Pendel FD should have two large wheels in the rear and
two small castor wheels in the front. The wheel size of the large wheels should be 24 or 26
inch.
The Pendel FD is designer to drive on flat and solid grounds. Public roads and special
roads for bicycles are ideal for the Pendel FD.
The maximum slope to drive should not exceed 17%.
If you drive the first time with the Pendel FD, make sure you try it on a
large free area like a empty car parking. Make sure you have
somebody with you who can help you.
For road use in your country, you might need additional insurance.
Please check this matter before you use the Pendel FD on public
roads.
As user of the Pendel FD on public roads, you need to be aware of the
national regulations for traffic.
Be careful drive downhill. Never exceed the maximum speed of
15 km/h downhill. Always drive slowly and controlled downhill.
Avoid driving through water and mud holes. Also drive carefully on

7.2 Hot and cold surfaces.
7.3 Distances between moving and stationary parts.
User
Special care has been taken to make sure that the chance that the user pinches him or
herself while seated in the Pendel FD is minimal. However there are few situations that
might lead to injury. Special caution has to be taken under the following circumstances;
- When entering the wheelchair in to the Pendel, the rear wheels of the wheelchair need to
be pushed against the fixation points. Be careful not to have your hands or finger in this
area close to the fixation points. You might pinch you fingers between the wheelchairs
wheel and the fixation points.
- When the Pendel is lifted, the ramp will flip up. During the flipping up there is a change
that parts like bags might get pinched between the chassis of the Pendel and the ramp.
Always make sure this area of cleared from objects or persons before lifting the Pendel
in to driving height.
- When lowering the Pendel the gap between the rear wheels and the body woks in this
specific area will get small. If objects or hand are in this area during lowering the Pendel,
you might damage the objects or pinch your hand between the body work and the rear
wheel. Before lowering the Pendel, make sure this specific area is cleared.
Environment
- When lowering the Pendel to the ground, objects or feet of other persons might get stuck
underneath the Pendel. Always make sure, before lowering the Pendel, the area around
the Pendel is cleared and the surface your standing on is flat.
Some parts of the wheelchair can reach high temperatures when
exposed to direct sun. Please be careful with touching especially the
plastic parts under these circumstances in order to prevent skin
burning.
Make sure before entering the wheelchair into the Pendel, lifting the
Pendel or lowering the Pendel, that the areas where there is a risk of
pinching are cleared.

14
7.4 Electromagnetic disturbance.

8. Product description
The Pendel FD is a scooter, designed to transport a person inside a manual wheelchair.
The user doesn’t have to make a transfer from the wheelchair to the Pendel, he or she
simply drive the manuals wheelchair in to the Pendel FD, lock the wheelchair, lifts up the
Pendel and drives to a desired destination.
8.1 Body works Pendel FD:
The Body work of the Pendel FD is made out of reinforced polyester panels with a top
paint coating. The body work is smooth with round edges and is very easy to clean and
polish.
8.2 Frame
The tubular frame is made out of steel tubing, which has been powder coated. This results
in a light but rigid frame.
8.3 The wheels
Pendel FD has three wheels, one in the front and two in the rear. The rims are aluminum
casted, machined and powder coated. The tyres are with tubes and automotive valves.
Tyre size front: 3.00 - 10, recommended tyre pressure 2.5 bars
Tyre size rear: 3.00 - 12, recommended tyre pressure 2.5 bars
8.4 The drive motor
The drive motor is mounted in the front fork. It is a very powerful (2,2 KW) motor which
drives the front wheel. The motor is air cooled for maximum performance.
Low tyre pressure can have a negative influence of the driving
behavior of the Pendel FD. This can cause dangerous situations
during driving. Check the tyre pressure every week.

16
8.5 The electronics.
The Pendel uses 2 electronic systems. One special controller for controlling the drive
motor, and one system for the additional electric functions of the Pendel.
8.5.1 Sevcon drive controller.
The drive controller is controlling the drive motor of the Pendel. The controller is a
microprocessor controlled device. All driving characteristics are programmed in this
controller. Driving characteristic can be adapted to the requirements of the user. The
controller can be programmed using a special handheld programmer or using an interface
connected to a PC. Parameters like maximum forward speed, maximum reverse speed,
acceleration, etc. can be programmed and changed.
Programming the Pendel drive controller is only to be done by staff of
Huka BV or authorized and trained persons of an authorized huka
dealer.
Programming done by unauthorized persons can lead to dangerous
situations and is therefore strictly forbidden.
Errors in the programming of the Pendel FD can lead to material
damage to the Pendel or even personal damage to the user and/or
persons who are close to the Pendel.
After changing a parameter of the drive controller, there should be a
test drive first to check if the programming is done properly. If the test
drive was successful and save, the Pendel will be returned to its user.
Adjusting parameters outside the specified limits might lead to
strange drive behavior of the Pendel FD. This could result in personal
or material damage.

17
8.5.2 Additional features controller.
This second controller is controlling functions like lights, horn, indicators, compressor and
hazard lights. The output stages are protected against overload and short circuit. The PCB
is coated so that moisture and other fluids don’t have access to the electronics. This
controller is also software driven. The programming is only done by HUKA BV. These
parameters in this software cannot be changed.
8.6 The batteries
The Pendel uses two large 24 volt batteries to power the Pendel. Each battery has a
capacity of 100 Ah.
The additional functions controller is not programmable. It is not
allowed to change anything on this controller.
In case of an error on the additional controller, repairs are only to be
executed by trained and authorized person of Huka BV or an
authorized Huka dealer.
In case of a short circuit, the particular function is blocked. In case of
a blocked function, contact your authorized Huka dealer to have the
Pendel checked and repaired.

18
These large batteries give the Pendel a autonomy of approximately 40-60 km. (measured
according to ISO7176-4:2008).
The autonomy is influenced by several factors like:
Temperature:
At low temperatures the battery capacity is reduced, due to the changed chemical reaction
inside the battery.
Tyre pressure:
If the tyre pressure is low, the friction between tyre and surface is bigger. The higher
friction will reduce the autonomy.
Driving on slopes:
Driving on slopes requires more energy and has there fore an influence on the autonomy
of the Pendel FD.
Rough ground:
If the Pendel drives on rough ground, the friction between tyres and ground will be
increased. This has a negative influence on the autonomy.
Climbing kerbs:
If you climb a kerb with the Pendel the vehicle will need more power for climbing. Climbing
kerbs frequently will influence the autonomy of the Pendel.
8.6.1 Automatic parking brake batteries.
In some countries the Pendel might have two additional small batteries for the automatic
parking brake system. These batteries work as a backup battery for the automatic parking
brake system, in case the main batteries fail.
The batteries of the Pendel are very heavy and big. Therefore
changing the batteries should only be done by authorised personnel
of Huka BV or an authorised Huka dealer.
Batteries are classified as chemical waist. For this reason changing
and disposal of old batteries should only be done by personnel of an
authorised Huka dealer. They know how to handle and dispose
batteries according to the local regulations.

8.7.2 Throttle
Accelerate:
The throttle is used to set and adjust the driving speed of the Pendel FD. To accelerate,
turn the handle towards yourself slowly. The Pendel will start to drive and accelerate. If the
required speed is reached, hold the throttle in it s position to maintain this driving speed.
Decelerate:
To decelerate, move the throttle slowly back into its zero position. The Pendel FD will
decelerate until standing still.
Before switching on the Pendel, check if the throttle moves without any hesitation or
resistance.
Moving the throttle to fast could result in a fast accelerating Pendel,
which might put you into an uncontrolled movement Treat the throttle
with care.
Sudden letting go of the throttle could cause a strong deceleration,
which might put you into an uncontrollable situation. treat the throttle
with care.
Should the throttle show signs of wear or higher resistance than
normal, please contact your local authorized huka dealer for a
checkup.
