WAND Wi-Fi Setup –New User
March 2020

Requirements to Setup WAND
1. X2 controller installed and powered
2. WAND Wi-Fi module
3. 2.4 GHz router and Wi-Finetwork
4. Smartphone with internet access
5. Google Play account or Apple iCloud
account to download Hydrawise app
6. Email account to receive Hydrawise
account activation invitation

Wi-Fi Setup Steps (20 mins)
Step 1: Wi-Fi signal and network check (2 min)
Step 2: WAND installation (1 min)
Step 3: Hydrawise account signup (8 min)
Step 4:Add X2 controller to your account (3 min)
Step 5:Add Wi-Fi to WAND (6 min)

Step 1A: Wi-Fi Signal Check
Use your smartphone to check the signal
strength for the desired Wi-Finetwork
connection at the controller location
Important!
•If the strength is poor the connection will
not work
•Obstructions such as interior walls and
landscaping can block the signal
In this case, move the controller or router to
improve the signal or add a Wi-Fi repeater

Step 1B: Wi-Fi Network Check
Check if your Wi-Finetwork is 2.4 GHz by
calling your Internet Service Provider (ISP),
logging into the router setup webpage, or use
a Wi-Fianalyzer app
Important!
•5 GHz Wi-Fi networks are not compatible
with WAND

Step 2: Installing WAND
1. Remove Wi-Fi cover
2. Insert WAND module

Step 3A: Signup for HydrawiseAccount
1. Download the Hydrawise App
•AppleApp store for iPhone devices
•Google Play storefor Android devices
2. Open the Hydrawise App
3. Click the Register button
•Enter your name and email address
•Confirm your email address

Step 3B: Activate Your Hydrawise
Account
1. Open the Hydrawise account activation
email sent to the email address used to
register
2. Click the “Let’s Get Started!” button
Important!
If you did not receive an email:
•Re-check your inbox folder in five minutes
•Check your spam folders
•Verify correct email address shown on the
Hydrawise register screen

Step 3C: FinalizeAccount Details
1. Create your unique password and confirm
2. Click the OK button

Step 4: Add X2 to Your Account
1. Click Run the Setup Wizard button
2. Click Let’s Get Started button again
3. Enter a unique name for your X2 controller
4. Enter the serial number found on the white sticker
affixed to your WAND module or laser etched on the
front
5. Enter controller location for accurate weather data
6. Click the continue button

Step 3: Add X2 to Your Account
1. Navigate to “My Controllers” in the My Account drop-down menu
2. Clickthe + icon under My Controllerslist
3. Enter a unique name for your X2 controller
4. Enter the serial number found on the white stickeraffixed to your
WANDmoduleor laser etchedon the front
5. Enter controllerlocationfor accurateweatherdata
6. ClickOK
7. Clickthe Setup Wizard buttonin the right menu dropdown

Add Wi-Fi to WAND

Step 5: Adding Wi-Fi to WAND
1. Clickthe Yes buttonto startWi-Fisetup
2. Choosebetween:
Connectwith Smartphone (SAP)
Connectwith Router (PBC)
Connectwith Smartphone (SAP) usesthe Wi-Fion
your smartphone, tablet, or computer to connectyour X2
to the internet.You'llselectyour wireless network and
enter your password.
Connectwith Router (PBC) usesyour WPS-supported
router to connect X2 to the internet. You’ll press your
router’s WPS button to automatically connect.

Step 5: Add Wi-Fi to WAND (SAP Setup)
1. Click the SAP in-app button on your device
2. Turn on SAP mode on X2 controller by
pressing the WAND button 2x
The solid amber ●LED on the X2 will blink 2x
per second and “SAP” text will appear on X2’s
LCD
3. Click ‘Continue when LED is blinking twice’
button

Step 5: Add Wi-Fi to WAND (SAP Setup)
iPhone & iPads
1. Go to the Wi-Fisettingson your iPhone or iPad device
2. Selectthe HunterX2XXXWi-Finetworkname matchingthe
last 3 charactersof your WANDserial number
3. DisableMobile Data only on your device when prompted
4. Returnto the Hydrawise app and click the Rescanbutton
5. A list of nearby Wi-Finetworkswill appear
6. Selectyour wirelessnetwork and clickthe Connectbutton

Step 5: Add Wi-Fi to WAND (SAP Setup)
iPhone & iPads
7. Enter your Wi-Fipasswordand click the Continuebutton
8. Enable Mobile Data on your smartphonewhen prompted
WANDwill connect to your Wi-Finetwork
9. Once connected,the WANDLEDwill turn solid green●, the
word 'ONLINE' with a solid Wi-Fiiconwill appear on the
controllerLCD. The Hydrawise app will showa 'Connection
Successful'message
10. Clickthe continuebuttonto continueset irrigationschedules

Step 5: Add Wi-Fi to WAND (SAP Setup)
AndroidSmartphone& Tablets
1. Select the HunterX2XXX Wi-Finetwork name matching
the last 3 characters of your WANDserial number
2. Disable Mobile Data only on your device when prompted
3. Return to the Hydrawise app and click the Rescan button
4. A list of nearby Wi-Finetworks will appear
5. Select your wireless network and click the Connect button

Step 5: Add Wi-Fi to WAND (SAP Setup)
Android Smartphone & Tablets
6. Enter your Wi-Fipasswordand click the Continuebutton
7. Enable Mobile Data on your smartphonewhen prompted
WANDwill connect to your Wi-Finetwork
8. Once connected,the WANDLEDwill turn solid green●, the
word 'ONLINE' with a solid Wi-Fiiconwill appear on the
controllerLCD. The Hydrawise app will showa 'Connection
