Compressed air and electricity can be dangerous. Before undertaking any work on the
compressor, ensure that the electrical supply has been isolated and the compressor
has been relieved of all pressure. Use proper Lock Out Tag Out procedures to ensure
you and your coworkers safety.
Keep all parts of the body and any hand-held tools or other conductive objects, away
from exposed live parts of the compressor electrical system. Maintain dry footing,
stand on insulating surfaces and do not contact any other portion of the compressor
when making adjustments or repairs to exposed live parts of the compressor electrical
system. Close and lock all access doors when the compressor is left unattended.
Do not use extinguishers intended for Class A or Class B fires on electrical fires. Use
only extinguishers suitable for class BC or class ABC fires. Attempt repairs only in
clean, dry, well lighted and ventilated areas. Connect the compressor only to electrical
systems that are compatible with its electrical characteristics and that are within it’s
rated capacity.
WARNING
Imposing a normal or emergency stop on the compressor will only relieve pressure up-
stream of the minimum pressure valve on top of the separator tank. If maintenance
work is required downstream of this valve, ensure that all pressure is relieved at the
process vent point external to the compressor.
This state is advised by selecting PACKAGE DISCHARGE PRESSURE on the control
panel.

Current Status Messages
While the compressor has power (started or stopped), a current status screen will be
displayed by the controller. This current status screen will be considered the “normal”
display that the controller shows.
% Energy Savings
This displays the percent of energy saved by a Nirvana compressor, as compared to a
comparable fixed speed compressor that is operating in one of three modes.
% Capacity
Displays the compressor’s current percent capacity. This value will be determined by
the actual speed vs. the maximum speed.
Package kW
Displays the compressor’s kilowatt usage. This value includes the blower’s kW usage.
Package Discharge Temp
Displays the reading from temperature sensor 4ATT. There is no logic associated with
the package discharge temperature.
Airend Discharge Temp
Displaysthereadingfromtemperaturesensor2ATT
Injected Coolant Temp
Displays the reading from temperature sensor 2CTT.
Sump Pressure
Displays the reading from pressure sensor 3APT.
Separator Pressure Drop
Displays the value of the pressure drop across the separator. This value is determined
by subtracting the dry side sump pressure from the wet side sump pressure.

Coolant Filter
Displays the status of the coolant filter.
This status is determined by a coolant filter switch, that is read by the controller.
Inlet Filter
Displays the status of the inlet filter as determined by the air filter delta-p switch.
Total Hours
Displays the total running hours.
Motor Speed
This value is read from the variable speed drive controller and displayed.
Remote Pressure
If the compressor has the remote pressure sensor option, this value is read from the
variable speed drive controller and displayed.
If the compressor doesn’t have the remote pressure sensor option, Not Installed will
bedisplayed.
Time & Date
Displays the current time and date.
Program Name
Displays the program name, version number, and software part number.
VSD
Displays the version number of the drive software.
Factory Set Points
The factory set point sequence is accessed with the hidden function button sequence
of Main Menu, followed by upper middle, then F2, and then F1.
The sequence contains the following settings:
Language
The language selections are:
English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, German,
Dutch, Danish,Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, Turkish, Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian,
Maltese, Slovenian, Slovakian,Czech, Hungarian, and Polish.

Units of Measure
The units of measure selections are PSI & Deg F, PSI & Deg C, BAR & Deg C, kPa &
Deg C, and KGCM2 & Deg C.
Whenever the units of measure are changed, the Intellisys will transmit a new
target pressure to the VSD. Along with the target pressure, the Intellisys will also
transmit new minimum and maximum speeds to the VSD. The minimum and
maximum speed is determined from a table, based on the compressor model
and the target pressure.
Compressor Type
The type of compressor will be selected here. The choices are listed below.
Compressor Type and Target Pressure will be used to determine the
compressor’s maximum speed once the speed curves have been generated.
Whenever the compressor type is changed, the Intellisys will transmit new
minimum and maximum speeds to the VSD. The minimum and maximum
speed is determined from a table, based on the compressor model and the
target pressure.

Water Cooled
This set point is used to select the type of cooling. The selection is water cooled On or
Off. A selection of Off will mean the unit is air cooled.
Hot Side Thermal Valve
This should only be set to on if the compressor is equipped with a hot side thermal
valve. If this is set to On, the Intellisys will focus on CTD when determining the blower
speed. If this is set to Off, the Intellisys will focus on anti-condensation when determin-
ing the blower speed. Hot side thermal valve operation also requires the cooler out
temperature sensor (4CTT). The default value for this set point is On unless
the unit is a 50 HP, 60 HP, or Viper-N. For these units the default value is Off.
Total Hours
The total hours selection is used to adjust the total operating hours display.
Service Level
This set point is used to select a service level of 1 or 2 for maintenance warnings.
Service Interval Type
This set point is used to select hours or months for measuring the service interval.
This set point is not used if the service level is 1. Service warnings occur when the
unit has operated a certain number of hours, based on the total hours, or has
operated for a certain number of months, based on the real time clock. Service
warnings can have multiple levels, depending on the service level selection.
Service Interval
This set point is used to select the number of months for measuring the service inter-
val. The selections are 3, 6, 9, or 12 months. This set point is not used if the service
level is 1 or the service interval type is hours.
Service Complete
This set point is used to indicate to the controller that service has been completed.
This set point is not used if the service level is 1.
Service Menu
This set point is used by IR service to gain access to a set of service set points, the
field interface, and the direct read from the VSD function. IR service will enter a code
number to gain access to these items. An incorrect code will send the user back to the
current status display.

Operator Set Points
The operator set point screen contains the name and value of each user-adjustable set
point. These points shall be adjustable without stopping the compressor. The following
set points can be seen on this screen by moving the list up and down with the arrow
buttons.
Target Pressure
The compressor will try to operate at this pressure setting. The target pressure ranges
and step sizes for each unit of measure are listed in the table below. The maximum
pressure range is shown for single and two stage units.

Automatic Stop Pressure
The compressor will stop once the system pressure rises to this pressure and the
compressor is operating at the minimum speed. The range for this set point will be the
target pressure+1 to target pressure+10 psi if the target pressure is 145 psi or less, to
target pressure+7 psi if the target pressure is greater than 145, but less than or equal
to 175 psi, or to target pressure+5 psi if the target pressure is greater than 175 psi.
Immediate Stop Pressure
The compressor will stop if the system pressure rises to this pressure. The range for
this set point will be the automatic stop pressure to automatic stop pressure+10 psi if
the target pressure is 145 psi or less, to automatic stop pressure+7 psi if the target
pressure is greater than 145, but less than or equal to 175 psi, or to automatic stop
pressure + 5 psi if the target pressure is greater than 175 psi.
Blowdown Mode
If this mode is selected to “ON”, the compressor will de-energize the blowdown sole-
noid anytime that it stops. This will keep the compressor from staying pressurized
when it is stopped. If this mode is selected to “OFF”, the blowdown solenoid will stay
energized when the compressor stops due to an auto stop or an immediate stop. This
set point is only used in single stage compressors. If the compressor is a 2 stage unit,
blowdown mode will be listed as not installed and the compressor will always blow-
down when it stops. Blowdown mode cannot be set to On in 2 stage compressors.
Condensate Release
This is the number of seconds that the condensate solenoid will be open (energized)
when blowing out the condensation
Condensate Interval
This is the time interval between condensation blow downs.
% Savings Compared To
This set point is to determine what Nirvana’s percent of savings is compared to.
The modes of operation for comparing Nirvana to are modulation, online/offline,
and geometry.
The percent savings value is displayed by the status message, % energy savings.
Energy Rate
This set point is used to enter the cost per kilowatt hour into the Intellisys. This value
is used for calculating energy cost and energy savings in the energy status menu.

Reset Averaging
This set point is to reset the time period that the energy status information will be
calculated over. When this set point has been selected and set, the date that is
was last set will be displayed.
Options
The options screen is similar to the operator set point screen in terms of step
intervals and units. However, the range section allows the operator to turn the
options “ON” or “OFF”. The following are the names and values of each option.
They are viewed by moving up and down with the arrow buttons.
If an option has not been purchased and installed in the unit, the message “Not
Installed” will be shown on the selection display screen. Installation of options
will be done using the IR service tool.

Remote Sensor
If this setting is set to On, the compressor will use the remote sensor for pressure
control, except for the immediate stop. The remote sensor is connected directly to the
VSD and measures the pressure after the discharge of the package. The Intellisys
will read the remote sensor pressure value from the drive and display it in the current
status menu under remote pressure. The VSD will determine the speed directly from
the remote sensor. The local discharge pressure sensor (4APT) will still be used by
the Intellisys for all alarms, warnings and immediate stop.
Sequencer
If this setting is set to On, the compressor will be able to receive commands from a
host device, such as an ISC. When the Intellisys receives a load command from the
host device, the compressor will start and ramp up to speed. When the Intellisys
receives an unload command, the Intellisys will respond as if it were executing an
immediate stop.
Remote Start/Stop
If this setting is set to Yes, the compressor will be able to be started and stopped
from a remote device.
Power Out Restart
If this setting is set to Yes, the compressor will automatically restart when power is
returned to the compressor if it was operating when power was removed.
Power Out Restart Time
If the power out restart setting is set to Yes, this is the number of seconds from the
time power is restored until the compressor starts.
Scheduled Start Day
This option is the selection for the day that a scheduled start will take place. The
selections are:Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
Daily (Su – Sa), Week days (M – F), or Weekends.
This option set point will work with the scheduled start set point.

Scheduled Start
This option will cause the unit to start on the scheduled start day, at the time stored in
this set point. To disable this option, set the value of scheduled start equal to the value
of scheduled stop
Scheduled Stop Day
This option is the selection for the day that a scheduled stop will take place. The selec-
tions are:Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Daily
(Su – Sa), Weekdays (M – F), or Weekends.
This option set point will work with the scheduled stop set point.
Scheduled Stop
This option will cause the unit to stop on the scheduled stop day (3.3.3.10), at the time
stored in this set point. To disable this option, set the value of scheduled stop equal to
the value of scheduled start
Modbus Protocol
The Modbus communications will be disabled if this is set to OFF. If set to ON or ICU,
Modbus communications will be enabled using RTU protocol. If set to ICU, the Intelli-
sys will call out if an alarm or warning occurs. See the Modbus manual for information
on RTU protocol.
Modbus Address
The Modbus address can be set from 1 to 247.
Sensor Calibration
Pressure transducers are calibrated by using the SENSOR CALIBRATION screen.
Calibration can only take place when the unit is not running. The following sensors are
displayed for calibration (chosen by using the UP and DOWN arrow buttons):

If a zero value is +/- 10% of the scale then calibration should not be allowed. If this
occurs, the following message will be displayed: Invalid Calibration
Alarm History
The ALARM HISTORY screen gives the operator the capability to scroll through the
stored alarms (15 most current) experienced by the machine. Each alarm is labeled by
number (i.e. “Alarm History 1”) and listed in the order of most recent alarm being first.
Pressing the SELECT button when one of the alarms is highlighted will display the list
of machine values that existed at the time that particular alarm occurred.
Clock Functions
The clock functions screen is used for setting the time and date for the real time clock.
Time: This is used for setting the hours (0 - 23) and minutes (0 - 59).
Date: This is used for setting the month, day, and year.
Service Display Menu 3
The service display function can only be accessed from the service menu.A code
number is entered to access this function. The service display function will only be
accessed by IR service. This function will allow IR service personnel to read a
selected group of operation values that are not made available to the customer
along with some of the values from the current status display.
% Capacity
Displays the compressor’s current percent capacity. This value will be determined
by the actual speed vs. the maximum speed.
Inlet Temp
Displays the reading from temperature sensor 1ATT.
Package Discharge Temp
Displays the reading from temperature sensor 4ATT.
Airend Discharge Temp
Displays the reading from temperature sensor 2ATT.

Injected Coolant Temp
Displays the reading from temperature sensor 2CTT.
Interstage Pressure
Displays the status of the interstage pressure (2APT) on 2 stage compressors.
This sensor is only used on 2 stage units and this display is shown as not installed
on single stage compressors.
Sump Pressure
Displays the reading from pressure sensor 3APT.
Dry Sump Pressure
Displays the reading from pressure sensor 6APT.
Motor Speed
This value is read from the variable speed drive controller and displayed.
Motor Current
This value is read from the variable speed drive controller and displayed
Motor Voltage
This value is read from the variable speed drive controller and displayed.
Input Voltage
This value is read from the variable speed drive controller and displayed.
DC Bus Voltage
This value is read from the variable speed drive controller and displayed.
IGBT U Temperature

Input Rectifier Temperature
This value is read from the variable speed drive controller and displayed.
VSD Ambient Temperature
This value is read from the variable speed drive controller and displayed.
Blower Percentage
This value is the percentage of the 4 – 20 mA output the Intellisys is sending to the
variable speed blower.
For example, 0% would be 4mA, 50% would be 12mA, and 100% would be 20mA.
Target Temperature
This value is the minimum target temperature the variable speed blower is trying to
maintain.
Calculated Target Temperature
This value is the calculated target temperature without any adjustment for things
such as injected coolant temperature.
This value may be the same as the target temperature.
Anti-condensation SV Condition
This display will show the current state of the anti-condensation solenoid valve.
If it is energized it will be On, de-energized will be Off.
Remote Pressure
If the compressor has the remote pressure sensor option, this value is read from the
variable speed drive controller and displayed.
If the compressor doesn’t have the remote pressure sensor option, Not Installed
will be displayed.
Remote Max Speed
Used to display the remote max speed after the pressure differential is calculated.
Remote Max Pressure
Used to display the remote max pressure after the pressure differential is calculated.
This value is always in Psi. The remote max speed is based on this number.

When the Nirvana is being controlled by an IEO, this display will show the target
pressure the IEO is trying to control the unit at.

Service Menu 33
The following are set points that are only set by IR service. These set points are ac-
cessed by entering a code number into the service menu set point.
*- The maximum speed maximum limit will change whenever the compressor type or
target pressure is changed. The above is the initialization value.
Idle Mode
If this is set to ON, the compressor will only run at the slowest (65 psi) minimum speed
with the blowdown valve open. A ‘Replace Coolant Filter’ Alarm will be issued when
this mode is set to ON. This alarm is a reminder to only operate in this mode if a new
coolant filter is installed. Once the alarm is reset, the unit can be started in idle mode.
When this is turned OFF, the compressor will automatically return to VSD operation.
If idle mode is not turned Off by IR service, it will automatically set itself to Off after 10
minutes of operation and the compressor will stop at that time. This will only be used
by IR service.

Proportional Gain
This set point is sent to the VSD when it is changed.
This is used for the PID proportional gain.
Integral Gain
This set point is sent to the VSD when it is changed.
This is used for the PID integral gain.
Derivative Gain
This set point is sent to the VSD when it is changed.
This is used for the PID derivative gain.
Maximum Speed
This set point is sent to the VSD when the target pressure is changed. This set point
can be used to override the maximum speed for the VSD as set by the target pressure.
This is the maximum speed the motor will operate at after it has started. The speed of
the motor will not exceed this value during operation.
Minimum Speed
This set point, is sent to the VSD when the target pressure is changed. This set point
can be used to override the minimum speed for the VSD as set by the target pressure.
This is the minimum speed the motor will operate at after it has started.
Skip Speed Point
This set point is used for setting the mid-point of a speed band that the VSD will skip
over. This value will be positive for single stage compressors and will be negative for
2stage compressors. Single stage unit rotate in a clockwise direction and provide a
positive speed feedback. Two stage units rotate in a anticlockwise direction and provide
anegative speed feedback.
Skip Speed Band
This set point is used for setting the bandwidth of the skip speed range. The VSD will
skip any speeds within this range.
Fixed Speed Control
If this is set to On, the compressor will only run at the slowest speed of maximum
pressure (145 psi or 203 psi) . When this is turned Off, the compressor will automatically
return to VSD operation. If fixed speed control is not turned off by IR service, it will
automatically set itself to Off after 10 minutes of operation

Lowest Blower Percentage
This set point is used for setting minimum speed for the blower. The minimum speed is
set setting the minimum percentage of output for the 4 – 20 mA output.
Warm Up Temperature
This set point is used to determine if the compressor run a warm up cycle. If the airend
discharge temperature doesn’t reach this temperature in two consecutive cycles, the
Intellisys will run a warm up cycle.
Warm Up Time
This set point is used to set the time period for a warm up cycle.
Variable Speed Delay
This set point is used to keep the variable speed compressor from going above
minimum speed for the time (seconds) of this set point. If this set point is above 0, the
Intellisys will not allow the compressor to operate in variable speed mode until the
variable speed delay timer expires. When the timer expires, the compressor will begin
variable speed operation. The timer starts when the compressor starts.
Remote Sensor Offset
This set point is used to adjust the remote sensor reading. For example, this would be
used to adjust out any differential pressure reading between the remote sensor and a
customer’s pressure gauge. If the customer’s pressure gauge is reading 2 psi lower
than the remote pressure sensor, the remote sensor offset could be set to –2 to make
the 2 sensor readings equal.
The target pressure that is sent to the VSD will also be adjusted for this offset.
Remote Pressure Differential Delay Time
This set point is for calculating the pressure differential between the package dis-
charge pressure and the remote pressure. This set point is used for determining the
minimum time the conditions must exist for calculating the remote pressure differential.
Memory Test Result
If this is selected and set, the Intellisys will conduct a memory test on its RAM and
ROM. At completion of the test the Intellisys will display the result. A 0 result will mean
that both the RAM and ROM passed the test. A result of 1, 2, or 3 will mean that the
RAM failed the memory test, but the ROM passed. A result of 4 will mean that the RAM
passed, but the ROM failed the memory test. A result greater than 4 will mean that
both the RAM and ROM failed the memory test.
The compressor must be stopped to conduct it.

Energy Status Messages
While the compressor has power (started or stopped), an energy status screen can be
displayed by the controller. The energy status display can be selected by the operator
by pressing the energy status button. The operator can return the display to the current
status by pressing the status button. The following items and their present values will
be displayed on the right side (area 2) of the screen by pressing the UP and DOWN
arrows.
Average Package kW-hours
This displays the average package kW per hour for the time period that was started by
selecting the reset averaging set point. This value includes the blower power usage.
Average % Capacity
Displays the compressor’s average percent capacity for the time period that was started
by selecting the reset averaging set point. This value is determined by taking the average
package kW per hour, removing the blower power usage, and then dividing that number
by the motor kW per hour for that size of compressor at 100% capacity.
Average Capacity
Displays the compressor’s average capacity in cfm or M3 for the time period that was
started by selecting the reset averaging set point.
