Unpacking
Please take a few minutes to read this manual to familiarize yourself with the important information regarding
installation, product features, and operation.
As with most electronic devices, ORIGINAL PACKAGING (OR EQUAL) IS REQUIRED in the unlikely event that
the product needs to be returned for servicing.
Short Form Instructions
1. Do not connect the AC power until step 5.
2. Connect the OUTPUT to an Inter-M Weekly Program Timer or other appropriate device.
3. Connect the Serial port or Remote connector to an Inter-M Weekly Program Timer or other appropriate
device.
4. Connect any external sources to be used with the system (Microphone, CD Player, Cassette Deck, or other
signal source).
5. Attach the supplied power cord to the unit and to an appropriate AC power source. There is no power
switch so the unit remains powered at all times, although the unit may receive its power from the timer-
controlled switched outlet on the Inter-M Weekly Timer.
6. Select the desired file using the REW or FF buttons, then press play to listen to the file.
7. Incorporate the remaining functions and capabilities of the unit as appropriate.

Environment
Never place this product in an environment which could alter its performance or reduce its service life. Such
environments usually include high levels of heat, dust, moisture, and vibration.
Important Safety Instructions

5. Do not use this apparatus near water.

7. Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
8. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including
amplifiers) that produce heat.
9. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades
with one wider than the other. A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wide
blade or the third prong are provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult
an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.
10. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and
the point where they exit from the apparatus.
11. Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
12. Use only with the cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table specified by the manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus.
When a cart is used, use caution when moving the cart/apparatus combination to avoid injury from tip-over.
13. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time.
14. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the
apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is
damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the
apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has
been dropped.

1. HEADPHONE OUTPUT JACK
Headphones can be connected to this jack to monitor the sound during record or playback modes.
2. USB PORT
This provides a convenient interface with computers to facilitate MP3 file transfers. Windows 2000 ready,
Windows 98 compatible by downloading software from Inter-M.com (Length of USB Cable: MAX 2m)
3. DUAL FUNCTION LEVEL INDICATOR
While recording the meter shows the Input signal level. During Playback the meter shows the Output signal
level.
4. DISPLAY SCREEN
This displays the status of operational modes and selection numbers of the recorded audio in real-time.
5. REWIND BUTTON
Depressing this button decrements the file selection number (selects a file with a lower number).
6. PLAY BUTTON
Depressing this button one time will cause the unit to PLAY the voice or music selection. Depressing this button
a second time will PAUSE the unit.
7. STOP BUTTON
Depressing this button will cause the unit to discontinue Play or Record operations.
8. FAST FORWARD BUTTON
Depressing this button increments the file selection number (selects a file with a higher number).

9. INPUT LEVEL CONTROL
The position of this control knob determines the strength of the input signal while recording (amplitude is
shown on the LED level indicator bar graph). Turning the knob clockwise will increase the level, turning it
counter-clockwise will decrease the level.
10. MICROPHONE INPUT
The input accepts a 1/4” balanced (or unbalanced) microphone (for recording a voice message).
11. RECORD BUTTON
Depressing this button one time will cause the unit to enter REC mode. The REC status will be shown in the
display. To start recording the voice and sound sources from CD Player, Deck, tuner, etc press REC button.
Press STOP button to stop it or when the recording is done.
12. REPEAT BUTTON
Depressing this button one time will replay the current file continuously. Depressing this button two times will
replay files continuously. Depressing this button three times will cause the unit to STOP after playing the
current file.
13. DELETE BUTTON
Depressing this button one time will delete the selected MP3 file stored in memory. To delete the file, press
DELETE button, and select the file No. by using the rewind or fast forward button, then press the Enter button
to complete the deletion. To cancel it, press STOP button.
14. ENTER BUTTON
This button is used in conjunction with the DELETE button to remove files from memory.

1. AC MAIN INPUT
This receptacle permits connection of the unit to an appropriate AC power source, using the universal AC
power cord provided with the unit.
2. DC MAIN INPUT
This 24VDC input is for connection to DC Mains. This alternate power source is commonly used in
applications requiring emergency backup power.
3. SERIAL PORT
This provides an RS-232C interface for connecting this unit to the Inter-M PW-9242N weekly program timer.
4. REMOTE CONTROL PORT
This provides a means of connecting this unit to the Inter-M PW-9242V weekly program timer.
5. RESET
Depressing this button will reboot the internal CPU to clear related errors or malfunctions.
6. CD INPUT
This input accepts a Compact Disk player (or other unbalanced line-level source) for the purpose of recording
(storing) an audio program signal.
7. AUX INPUT
This input accepts a cassette deck (or other unbalanced line-level source) for the purpose of recording (storing)
an audio program signal.
8. OUTPUT
This Output connects to a paging system (or sound system) that will broadcast the selected audio program
signal(s).

Display Legend
- PLAY
Display segments will illuminate sequentially around the perimeter of the
display alternating with a display of file number.
- PAUSE
Illuminated display segments will appear stationary in this position.
- REW/FF
The selected audio program file number will appear.
- STOP
Two red lighted dots will flash.
- RECORDING
Display segments will illuminate sequentially around each alphanumeric section of the
display.
- DELETE DISPLAY
The letters “dE” will appear indicating the DELETE button has been depressed.
- ENTER
The letters “En” will appear indicating the ENTER button has been depressed.
- REPEAT
“r1” indicates that the REPEAT button has been depressed one
time. “rA” indicates that the REPEAT button has been
depressed two times. “rE” indicates that the REPEAT button
has been depressed three times.
