Welcome to the small circle of people who de-
mand more from their watch than mere accuracy. Enjoy-
ment of your watch is more than just the enjoyment of the
precise time. It is enthusiasm for an amazing concept. For
the interplay between precision and imagination. Between
time and timelessness. Between boundaries and infinity.
Between laws that the whole world must obey and taste,
which cannot be dictated to anyone. That is why, since
1868, we have been devoting rather more of our time to
the watch; not only must a watch run accurately, but a
fascination with great achievements of craftsmanship
must also emanate from it at every instant through new in-
ventions of a technical, material or design nature, even if
they are concealed in the smallest detail, which is
perhaps not even visible. You are now the owner of a
beautiful new example of this IWC tradition. We should
like to congratulate you most sincerely on your choice,
and we send you our best wishes for the time that you
will spend with your watch, which perhaps cannot be
described with any greater accuracy than it is here.

Technical refinements of the Pilot’s Watch
Chrono-Automatic Edition TOP GUN
Your IWC watch shows you the time in hours, minutes and
seconds as well as the day and date. With the integrated
chronograph, you can measure any length of time up to
12 hours in seconds, minutes and hours. The mechanical
movement with automatic winding has 25 jewel bearings
(synthetic rubies) and has a power reserve of at least
44 hours when fully wound. The watch case is water-
resistant 6 bar and is protected by a sapphire glass of
hardness grade 9, which is secured against displacement
from a drop in air pressure at extreme altitudes. Your
IWC watch has a double case; the soft iron inner case
assures optimal protection against magnetic fields.
To ensure that this extraordinary watch continues to
perform its tasks in future, it is essential to follow a
few important operating instructions.

Functions of the crown

2Time setting
Normal position
This watch has a screw-in crown. The screw-in connec-
tion (normal position, position X) prevents unintentional
adjustment of the time or the date, and the watch case
has double protection against penetrating water. To
release the secure crown, unscrew it by rotating it to the
left, where it automatically assumes position 0, the wind-
ing position. By depressing the crown in position X and
rotating it to the right at the same time, it is screwed
down firmly again and secured.
Winding position
In the winding position (position 0), you can also wind
the automatic movement by hand. The movement will start
after only a few revolutions of the crown. However, it is
better to wind the movement fully with about 30 revolutions
of the crown, as maximum accuracy and a power reserve
of about 44 hours will then be assured, even after taking off
the watch.

Setting the date and the day
If a month has fewer than 31 days, you must set the date
by hand to the first day of the following month. Release
the screw-in crown and pull it out to position 1. You can
now set the date by rotating it to the right, and the day by
rotating it to the left (quick setting). You must not perform
quick setting between 20.00 and 2.00, since the date is
changed automatically by the movement during this time
period and the change mechanism could be damaged.
Setting the time
Pull out the crown to position 2. This will stop the move-
ment. For setting the time accurately to the second, it is
best to bring the movement to a stop as the seconds
hand passes over 60. You should now move the minute
hand a few minute lines beyond the time to be set.
Then position the minute hand by moving it gently back-
wards until it is exactly above the correct minute line.
By adopting this procedure, you will ensure that the minute
hand begins to move without any delay when you restart
the movement. To start the seconds hand, push in the
crown to position 0. When setting the time, please be
aware of the date change, which always takes place at
midnight (24.00). If this change has already taken place at
12.00 noon, you must turn the hands forwards through
12 hours.
Setting your watch correctly
You can set your watch correctly as follows:
• Release the crown by turning it to the left.
• Wind the movement until it is fully wound (ca. 30 rota-
tions of the crown).
• Pull out the crown to position 1.
• Turning the crown to the right will change the date
indicator in steps. Set it to yesterday’s date.
• Turning the crown to the left will change the day indi-
cator in steps. Set it to yesterday’s day.
• Pull out the crown to position 2, which will stop the
movement.
• Turn the hands forwards until the date indicator
changes to today’s day. The hands will now be set
between 0.00 and 1.00.
• Now turn the hands forwards to the precise time;
you will have to move the hands past 12.00 (noon) once
again in the afternoon.
• Push in the crown to position 0 to restart the move-
ment.
• Now push in the crown to position X and secure it by
turning it to the right at the same time.
Important: Although the watch is still water-resistant in
positions 0, 1 and 2, the crown must always be screwed in
again (position X) for normal use.
