1 Safety
Read through the operating instructions carefully before you use the
battery charger.
The operating conditions stipulated there must be complied with unreservedly. Please
note also the instructions provided by the battery manufacturer.
1.1 Intended purpose
– The battery charger may only be used for the charging of lead-cell drive batteries
which are in sound condition and are being used for the purpose for which they are
intended.
– Keep children away from battery and battery charger.
– The plug may not be changed.
– The charger may only be used for the batteries recommended in the unit.
Explosive gases can be created when batteries are being charged. Therefore provide
an adequate ventilation system for extracting the gases. Do not smoke in the vicinity
of the battery charger and when working with batteries. Avoid fire and the formation
of sparks.
If the wrong batteries are connected to the battery charger, the battery can gas
excessively, boil out and explode!
1.2 Installation
– The battery charger may only be operated in the installation position prescribed in the
works.
– Do not use in the open air, in traffic routes or enclosed spaces where there is a risk of
explosion.
– The place of installation must be well ventilated.
– Fire and smoke are prohibited in rooms containing batteries.
– All air slots in the charger must remain free. Under no circumstances may any parts of
the charger be covered.
– Protect the charger from dusts which may carry an electrical charge (e.g. soot or metal
chips).
2 Preparing the battery charger for use
The charger is designed for maintenance-free lead-cell drive batteries with a nominal
voltage of either 24 V or 36 V (see rating plate) and a rating of 160 ... 180 Ah. The battery
is optimally charged according to a IUIa curve with equalising charge corresponding to
the specifications of the battery manufacturer. The battery charger is already correctly
installed in the cleaning unit.
First connect the charger to the batteries to be charged. The coded charging plug
prevents wrong polarity. Then connect the charger to an earthed socket in the 230 V
mains network. For this the following mains-side fusing is to be provided: blow-out fuse
minimum 10 A gL or safety cut-out with minimum 10 A (B or C characteristic). The
charging process begins automatically.
The battery charger is equipped with 4 LED displays.

You will achieve the longest service life from your battery if you connect it to the battery
charger again after use.
Attention:
For battery chargers with only 3 LED displays, the following configuration applies:
yellow LED illuminated battery is being charged
green LED illuminated battery fully charged
red LED illuminated charger defective; battery defective.
Inform customer service!
Caution: If the battery has to be disconnected during the charging process, the mains
plug of the charger must first be plugged out.
3 Maintenance
The battery charger is maintenance-free. Some parts, however, may be subject to wear.
Therefore, it is to be recommended that an expert technician from time to time checks it to
see whether
– the mains supply cable or the charging cable is faulty and that there is any
consequential damage.
The charger may be opened and repaired only by an expert technician. Please apply
to your customer service centre.
