IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
Please read these instructions carefully before using the appliance,
and always follow the safety and operating instructions.
Important: This appliance can be used by children over 8 years old
and people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacities or
with a lack of experience or knowledge if they have been given
supervision or instructions concerning the safe use of the appliance
and the risks involved. Children must not play with the appliance.
Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children unless

 Never use the appliance outside and always place it in a dry
environment.
 Never use accessories which are not recommended by the
producer. They could constitute a danger to the user and risk to
damage the appliance.
 Never move the appliance by pulling the cord. Make sure the cord
cannot get caught in any way. Do not wind the cord around the
appliance and do not bend it.
 Stand the appliance on a table or flat surface.
 Make sure the appliance has cooled down before cleaning and
storing it.
 Make sure the cord never comes into contact with the hot parts of
the appliance. Never touch the hot parts of the appliance.
 Make sure the appliance never comes into contact with
inflammable materials, such as curtains, cloth, etc. when it is in
use, as a fire might occur. Keep a distance of at least 1 metre
between the appliance and the curtains.
 Do not use the appliance for defrosting food other than bread
slices, and only insert unbuttered slices of bread of which the
thickness does not prevent the bread from coming up. Be
extremely strict about this as toasters are the cause of many fires
when these elementary safety precautions are not observed.
 Empty the appliance frequently of breadcrumbs. Make sure the
appliance is always unplugged before emptying it. Check the
“Maintenance and Cleaning” section.
 When cleaning the appliance, do not use metallic scourers in
order to avoid any future risk of electric short circuit.
 Your appliance must never be switched on through an external
timer or any kind of separate remote control system.
 Please note: Should the symbol be indicated on a certain
surface, you need to be careful when handling the product. This
symbol means: CAUTION, this surface may get very hot during
use.
The symbol is always put on the surface with the highest
temperature, however the other metallic or non-metallic surfaces
can also become very hot during use and it is therefore advisable
to always handle them with care and if possible with the help of
isothermal gloves or other thermal protection. In case of doubt

UK STYLE PLUG WIRING INSTRUCTIONS (IN THE UK ONLY)
This product must only be used from a 13 amp power socket. If a BS1363 approved 13 amp
plug is used, it should be fitted with a 13 amp fuse conforming to BS1362 and be ASTA
approved. The wires on the power cord are colour coded:
blue = neutral, brown = live, green or green & yellow = earth.
The blue wire must be connected to the terminal marked N or coloured in black.
The brown wire must be connected to the terminal marked L or coloured in red.
The green (& yellow) wire must be connected to the terminal marked E or coloured in green (&
yellow).
CAUTION the bread carriage handle will not stay down if the appliance is not plugged in!
BEFORE USING THE TOASTER FOR THE FIRST TIME
In order to eliminate any manufacturing residues, operate the toaster a couple of times without
bread with the browning control selector on a medium power level. Some smoke might
escape.
OPERATION
•Before using your appliance for the first time, check if it is clean (see “Maintenance and
cleaning”) as it comes into direct contact with bread. Check if any object has fallen into
the slots.
•Plug the appliance into a wall outlet.
•Place the bread slices in the slot (for French bread, cut a loaf shorter than the slot, then
cut it in two pieces along its length). Your appliance is provided to receive French bread,
but also pieces of toast or other bread slices if their thickness and their length are shorter
than the one of the slot. The maximum thickness allowed for bread is 38mm / 1 ½”.
•Press down the bread carriage handle until it stops (at the same time, the grid inside the
slots will tighten around the bread in order to keep it away from the quartz heating
elements). Then release the pressure and the handle will stay in the lower position, which
means that the heating process has begun. If the handle comes up immediately, check if
the appliance is plugged in, as the bread carriage cannot be locked if the toaster is not
plugged-in.
•You can adjust the browning intensity to obtain a more/less toasted bread, by positioning
the browning control dial to one of the degrees marked from 1 to 6. Therefore you only
have to turn the dial clockwise to increase the browning intensity, and anticlockwise to
decrease it. The higher the number is, the more toasted the bread will be.
•Always unplug the appliance after use and let it cool down before handling or storing it.
•Excess lengths of power cord can be stored under the base.
•When you store your appliance, wind the cord around the hooks.



FEATURES
Giant slots
Whether you like freshly baked un-cut loaves, bagels, teacakes, crumpets or pre-sliced thick or
thin breads, the Giant Slots makes it easy to evenly toast these different types and sizes of
bread.
High lift
The KitchenArtisan Giant Slot toaster has a High Lift facility, which makes it easier to remove
small items. Simply raise the bread lever ‘up’ to raise the carriage further once the toasting
cycle is complete, assisting with the removal of smaller items such as crumpets.
Cancel button –
To immediately stop the toasting cycle at any time. During operation, if you think that the
bread is toasted enough or you require the cycle to be halted for any reason, you can cancel
the heating process simply by pressing the Stop button.
One Side button –
This feature enables you to toast just one side of the bread, ideal for toasting breads such as
bagels, French Toast and baguettes.
One Slot button –
Ideal for toasting one slot only, which means that only one of the two toasting slots will
activate once the One Slot button is pressed. This means that not only can you accommodate
for single slice toasting, you also save energy by only using the electricity you require.
Defrost button –
Simply select your regular browning setting and the toasting time will be altered automatically
to first defrost and then toast the bread to your chosen setting.
Reheat button –
The reheat button is a handy feature for when your toast cycle is complete before you are
ready. Simply lower the bread lever and press the Reheat button to automatically set the pre-
toasted bread to a very low setting. This will automatically reheat the toast, without adding to
the browning shade.
USEFUL ADVICE ON TOASTING
•If the toasted bread pieces are too small to be picked up easily from the toaster, simply
raise the bread carriage handle to its uppermost position (High-lift function), to lift the



carriage and pick up the toasted bread. If still not accessible, please use thin heat-
resistant tongs to pick up the bread in the slot.
•Do NOT touch the metal parts as they will be hot!
•Do NOT toast food, other than bread, that is not specifically said to be toasted in a slot
toaster.
•If the toaster jams, the bread might simply be too thick. Remove the bread from the
toaster and slice it thinner.
•The second or third toast might toast too dark. This is normal. In case of repeated,
successive toasting, it might be useful to adjust the browning level so that the second
toasts’ browning is consistent with the first.
MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
•Before attempting any cleaning operation, make sure the toaster is unplugged from the
supply socket and fully cooled down.
•To remove bread crumbs, slide the crumb tray (9) situated on the bottom of the
appliance, out from the side for removal.
•Caution! It is very important to empty the crumb tray regularly.
•Crumbs that have accumulated in the toaster might burn and may become a fire hazard.
•To clean the exterior surface/housing, unplug the appliance and wait for the toaster to
cool down completely. Then simply wipe over with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive
cleaners or material (scouring pads) as they may damage the finish of your appliance.
•THE TOASTER M ST NEVER BE IMMERSED IN WATER OR SED NEAR WATER.
•All other maintenance and repair should be performed by a qualified technician.

RECIPES
Multigrain Loaf
Makes 1 large loaf
Ingredients
500g multigrain flour
1.5tsp fast action dried yeast
1.5tsp salt
25g butter
330ml warm water (1 part boiling, 2 parts cold water)
Method
1. Place the flour into the bowl of an electric mixer.
2. Mix in the yeast and salt and rub in the butter.
3. Fit the mixer with a dough hook attachment and blend in the water on slow speed.
4. Increase the speed to medium and mix for 5 minutes until a soft elastic dough is
formed (if an electric mixer is not available mix the dough by hand and knead for
about 10 minutes on a lightly floured surface).
5. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface and shape into an oblong. Place into a
greased and lined 2lb loaf tin.
6. Cover with a clean, damp cloth and prove in a warm place for about 1-1/2 hours
until doubled in size and slightly springy to touch.
7. Bake in a preheated oven at 230°C for 25-30 minutes until firm to touch and risen.
8. Remove from the oven, cool slightly and then remove from the tin.
Tip
The addition of Fast Action Yeast speeds up the bread making process in this recipe.
Replace the butter with 15ml walnut oil and add 75g chopped walnuts to the flour for a
delicious walnut loaf.
Homemade Butter
Makes 225g butter approximately
Ingredients
500ml double cream
Large bowl of iced water
Pinch of salt, optional
Method
1. Pour the cream into a mixing bowl and whisk with a hand held electric mixer or on a
stand mixer on slow speed.
2. Increase the speed to medium, the cream will whip into soft peaks and as you
continue to whisk the cream will stiffen.
3. Continue to whisk for 5-10 minutes or until the cream has separated into solid and
liquid (the liquid is buttermilk and can be used in cooking).
4. Drain off the butter milk. Place the butter into a bowl and wash with iced water. Press
the butter with a spoon or spatula to remove any excess buttermilk. Drain the liquid
and rinse the butter with more iced water, repeating the procedure until all of the
buttermilk has been removed and any liquid is clear.



5. Add salt to taste if desired and mix it into the butter.
6. Spoon into an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 1 week.
7. Delicious on hot toast.
This is a great recipe for using up excess cream or for cream that has been over whipped!
If a mixer is not available, butter can be made by hand by pouring the cream into a jar and
securing the lid tightly. Shake the cream until it separates into solid and liquid and follow the
recipe above.
Flavoured butter can be made by the addition of finely chopped herbs at stage 5 of the
recipe.
Strawberry Jam
Makes 4 jars approximately
Ingredients
1.2kg whole ripe strawberries
1.2kg jam sugar
2 lemons, juice only
Method
1. Hull the strawberries and halve the larger ones.
2. Place the strawberries into a large non metallic bowl. Sprinkle with sugar and lemon
juice and gently mix. Cover the bowl and leave overnight in a cool place.
3. Put several saucers into the freezer.
4. Pour the fruit and any liquid into a large preserving pan or large heavy based pan.
5. Heat gently stirring until the sugar has dissolved.
6. Turn up the heat and bring the jam to a rolling boil. Boil for 4 minutes.
7. Remove from the heat and test the setting point with either a sugar thermometer or
by the following test: spoon a little jam onto the chilled saucer, leave for a couple of
minutes and then gently push the jam to see if the surface wrinkles, if it does the jam is
ready.
8. If the surface does not wrinkle return the jam to boil for 2 minutes and retest (repeat
the procedure until the setting point has been reached).
9. Remove any scum from the surface of the jam with a slotted spoon.
10. Cool the jam for 15 minutes, stir gently and then using a wide neck funnel pour into
warm sterilised jars.
11. Cover the surface of the jam with waxed discs and then cover with lids or cellophane
circles and seal whilst the jam is still warm.
12. Serve a large dollop of Strawberry Jam, on hot buttered toast.
Jam will keep for 6 months in a cool, dry cupboard. Refrigerate once opened.
Jam jars and lids can be sterilised; on a very hot dishwasher cycle, by simmering completely
immersed in hot water for 10 minutes or by placing on a baking sheet in an oven at
140C/275f/Gas Mark 1 for at least 30 minutes.



500g strong white flour
1.5tsp fast action dried yeast
1.5tsp salt
1tsp sugar
25g butter
300ml warm water (1 part boiling, 2 parts cold)
Method

2. Mix in the yeast, salt and sugar. Rub in the butter.
3. Fit the mixer with a dough hook attachment and blend in the water on slow speed.
4. Increase the speed to medium and mix for 5 minutes until a soft elastic dough is
formed, add a little more water if required. Alternatively, mix the dough by hand and
knead for about 10 minutes.
5. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface and shape into an oblong. Place into a
greased and lined 2lb loaf tin.
6. Cover with a clean, damp cloth and prove in a warm place for about 1-11/2 hours
until doubled in size and slightly springy to touch.
7. Bake in a preheated oven at 230°C/ gas mark 8 or 220°C if using a fan oven for 25-30
minutes until firm to touch and risen.
8. Remove from the oven, cool slightly and then remove from the tin.
Tips
The use of Fast Action Yeast speeds up the bread making process in this recipe. Dough can be
shaped into baguettes, cobs, rolls etc and cooking time adjusted accordingly.
Make a delicious tea loaf by replacing half of the water with warm tea and adding 1-2tsp
mixed spice and 75g dried mixed fruit to the flour.
