3. Description
1. Correct and proper use
Kampmann TIP 5000 unit heaters are manufactured in
accordance with state of the art engineering and recognised
safety directives. However, incorrect installation and
commissioning of the units together with improper use of the
units can cause fatal injury, damage to the unit heaters or
damaged to other units or systems
Kampmann unit heaters are intended only to be used to heat
and ventilate industrial premises, assembly and production
plants, retail premises, sports halls and greenhouses. The units
are fitted with a copper/aluminium heat exchanger and, as such,
can be supplied with LPHW up to a maximum temperature of
120 °C and can operate at a maximum pressure of 16 bars. The
units should not be used for any purpose other than the one
described above. Damage resulting from improper use is the
sole responsibility of the user. Correct and proper use is also
understood as meaning the implementation of the installation
instructions given in this manual.
. Important safety information
lThese units should be wired and serviced by qualified
electrical technicians in accordance with the Association of
German Electrician's (VDE) or EN standards and recognised
electrical guidelines.
lNon-observance of these directives and of the detailed
instructions provided in the installation manual may cause
malfunction of the unit, resulting in damage to the unit itself
and possible fatal injury.
lIncorrect wiring may also result in fatal injury
lAll parts of the system should be disconnected and isolated
from the mains prior to electrical wiring and service work or
any other work being carried out.
lThe unit can also be damaged by the use of incorrect switches
or inadequate fuses. The Manufacturer's guarantee is
automatically invalidated in these circumstances.
lThe units should only be wired to a circuit in which the live
wires are separated from the mains circuit, with a 3 mm gap
between each contact.
4. Water pipe connections
The flow and return pipework should be connected to the unit
heater as indicated on the unit.
5. Fixing
TIP 5000 unit heaters can be:
lwall-mounted using wall brackets type 3*044
lceiling-mounted using universal 4-point brackets, type 30042
The unit can also be fixed using M8 ceiling rods or similar (by
others). When fixing a unit to the wall or ceiling, a minimum
gap A should be allowed between the fan guard and the wall
or ceiling. If this gap is not observed the performance of the unit
may be impaired and the noise level may increase.

When connecting the flow and return pipework to
the unit heater, ensure that the threaded parts of
the heat exchanger are held rigid with pipe pliers or
similar to prevent them from becoming damaged or
bent.

8. Service and maintenance
The galvanised housing of the unit heater is maintenance-free
and dirt on the housing does not impair the function of the unit.
The unit need only be cleaned if its appearance demands it.
Particles of dust and grease on the fins of the heat exchanger
restrict the air flow and heat transfer and optimum heat output
can only be produced by a clean heat exchanger. Regular checks
for dirt and dust should be carried out and the heat exchanger
should be cleaned if there is a build up of dirt.
lThese checks should take place at least once a year, generally
prior to the heating season, and more often in areas where
there is a high dust content.
lCopper/aluminium heat exchangers can be carefully cleaned
with compressed air if there are substantial deposits on the
aluminium fins. Any fins bent during this process should be
straightened with a metal comb.
lThe fan motor is also maintenance-free and the sealed
bearings are greased for the lifespan of the motor.
Particles of dust and dirt which collect on the blades of the fan
and the fan guard may reduce its performance and output and
should regularly be cleaned off (see also heat exchanger).
6. Wiring
TIP 5000 unit heaters come with a 2-stage, 3-phase 400 V
motor with Y/+
- windings. The motor is protected by thermal
cutouts in the windings of the motor which automatically
switch off the motor via the stage switch if they detect
overheating in the motor. The motor is thus protected should it
experience operating overload, a break in mains supply,
excessively high or low voltage, high ambient temperatures or
should the fan jam. A left hand rotational field is required for
the fan to rotate correctly.
7. Commissioning
1. Check water pipe connections
2. Check wiring (if multiple units are to be switched together:
windings parallel, thermal cutouts in series)
3. Connect power supply.
4. Check that the unit starts running correctly using the switch.
5. Check all thermal cutouts by briefly disconnecting from
electrical terminal (Attention: High voltage ).
6. Check that fans are rotating in the correct direction (see
arrow on unit); change over two phases to rectify rotational
direction of fan, if necessary.
7. Are fans running freely, are grating noises audible? The
source of grating noises should be established immediately.
The cause is often attributable to a unit installed within a
constricted area.
8. Are the louvre blades correctly positioned?
