The firsttimethisequipmentis used, a faintodormaybegivenoffbythepowertransformer. This ismerely
thefillerinthepowertransformerorthewaxonthecapacitorsevaporatingasthe unit warmsup. This is
normalandisnota defect.

Always removethemainsplug from thewall outlet prior toany
maintenanceofthisequipment.
WARNING: THIS EQUIPMENT MUST BE EARTHED.
IMPORTANT:
This plugcontainsa 13ampere fuse. Shouldthefuseneedtobe
replaced, ensurethatthereplacementfusehasa currentrating
of13amperes.Useonlyfusesstamped with an ASTA orBSI
approvalmarkonthebodyofthefuse.
Ifthemouldedplugisincompatible with theoutletsinyourhome,
removethe fuse, thencutoffanddiscardtheplug.Thereisdanger
of severe electricalshockshouldthecutoffplugbeinserted into
a live outlet. Ifa newplugisfitted,observethewiringcodeas
shownbelow.Ifin doubt, consulta qualifiedelectrician.

BEFORE OPERATION
TO PREVENT ELECTRIC SHOCK, FIRE AND OTHER INJURY. PLEASE NOTE THE

To ensuregoodventilation,donotputanythingon

Do notdrop pieces ofmetal,needles,coinsand
otherelectricallyconductivematerials into theunit.
Do nottouchthepowerplug,whenyourhandsare
wet.
Do notpullthepowercord,whendisconnectingit
fromtheACwalloutlet. Grasp theplugandensure
thatyourfingersdonottouchthelivepins.
Do notplacetheunitin areas of excessive dust,
highhumidityoronunstable surfaces.
To avoidriskofelectricshock,underno
circumstances shouldtheunitbeopened:
Ifanabnormalodororsmokeisdetected,
immediatelyturnthepoweroffandpulloutthe
powerplug.Contactthe KENWOOD service station
oryourdealer.
CLEANING
1. Turnthepoweroff,beforecleaningtheunit.
2. Donotuseanytypeofabrasivepad,thinner,
benzine orany substances whichmaydamage
theunit.
3. Wipethe front panelandotherexterior surfaces
oftheunitwith a softdryclothora softcloth
lightlymoistenedwithwater.

until installationiscomplete.
3-1. INSTALLATION
CAUTIONS
1. Priortoinstallation,checkthatthecorrectfuse
is installed.
2. Choosea locationthatis relativelyfree from
vibration.
3. Donotplacethe unit ina placewhichis
exposed todirectsunlight,neara heater,etc.
4. Donotstoreorusethe unit ina dustylocation
orina moistatmosphere.Selecta well
ventilatedlocation.
5. Tomaintain good ventilation:
Remove thepackingmaterials.
Donotcoverthe unit.
Place the unit atleast10cm(4")away from
thewalls.

Prior toinstallation,checkthattheACVoltage
Selector onthesidepanelissettothecorrect
linevoltage.
AC VOLTAGE SELECTION
WiththeEuropeandGeneralMarketsversion)
CAUTION
MakesurethattheACcableis disconnected
beforeselectinganACvoltage.
WhenchanginganACoperatingvoltage,selectthe
desired voltage with theselectorswitchlocatedon
thesidecover.Inthis case, thecorrectfusemust
beinstalled,referringtoSection5-4. FUSE
REPLACEMENT.
WARNING
Never connectACpowertotheDCPowerSupply
until installationis complete.
CAUTIONS
1. BeforeconnectingordisconnectingtheDC
Power Cable, besureto turn offthe POWER
switches of both theradioandtheDCPower
Supply.
2. ObservepolarityoftheDCPower Cable. The
radiooperateson13.8 VDC, negativeground.
NOTES
1. TheDCPowerSupplywillnotoperateifthe
output terminalsareshorted.
2. TheDCPowerSupplymaynotoperateifthe
POWER switchisturnedon with theradioin
transmitmodebecausetheprotectioncircuit
may operate.
1. ConnecttheDCPowerCable from theradioto
theOutputTerminalsonthe Rear Panel, as
shownin Fig. 3-1..

1. Turntheradio POWER switchonaftertheDC
Power Supply POWER switchisturnedon.
NOTE
IftheDCPowerSupplyprotectioncircuit
operates, turn the POWER switchesof both the
radioandtheDCPowerSupplyoff,andperform
theprocedureaboveagain.
2. Whencommunicationiscompletedfortheday,
turn offthe POWER switchesof both theradio
and theDCPowerSupply.
5-1. GENERAL INFORMATION
Your DCPowerSupplyhasbeenfactoryadjusted
and testedtospecificationsbeforeshipment.Under
normalcircumstances,theDCPowerSupplywill
operateinaccordancewiththeseoperating
instructions.Alladjustmentswerepresetatthe
factoryandshouldonlybereadjustedbya qualified
technician with propertestequipment.Attempting
service oradjustment without factoryauthorization
can voidtheDCPowerSupply'swarranty.Ifyour
DC PowerSupplyfailstowork,contactthe
authorized KENWOOD dealerfromwhichyou
purchased itforquick,reliablerepair.
NOTES
1. Whenclaimingwarranty service, pleaseinclude
a photocopyofthe bill of sale, orotherproofof
purchase showingthedateof sale.
2. RecordtheDateof Purchase, Serial Number
and Dealerfromwhompurchased.
3. Foryourowninformation,retaina writtenrecord
ofanymaintenanceperformedontheunit.

equipmenttoyourdealeror service centerforrepair,
pack initsoriginalboxandpacking,andincludea
full descriptionoftheproblemsinvolved.Also
includeyourtelephonenumber.Youneednotreturn
accessory itemsunlessdirectlyrelatedtothe
service problem.

Donotpacktheequipmentincrushednewspaper
forshipment. Extensive damagemayresultduring
shipment.
