MANUAL
The KMB-28 is a power source for chargers, and is a compact steel rack unit which can hold up to six KENWOOD
desk-top chargers, model KSC-35. The KMB-28 is a UL listed I.T.E. power source, is certified to UL and CSA safety
standards, and is provided with a three-wire grounded power cord for 120V AC operation. The KMB-28 is intended
for desktop or shelfmounted installation, in weather-protected, dry locations (indoors only). Optionally; 2 units may
be fastened side by side using supplied hardware.

2. No user serviceable parts inside. Refer service to a qualified service organization.

electric shock, under no circumstance should the unit be opened. There are no user adjustments

5. Do not pull the power cord to disconnect the supply. Grasp the plug with dry fingers, taking care not to touch the

This Manual contains important safety and operating instructions for the KMB-28 power source.
Before using this power source, read all instructions and cautionary markings on the (1) power source, (2) battery
charger, (3) battery, and (4) the product using the battery.
CAUTION: To reduce the risk of injury or equipmentdamage,use with only the specifically recommended
rechargeable battery pack models in their Kenwoodchargers. Other types of batteries may burst causing personal
injury and damage.
Do not recharge a battery
if
it is already fully charged. If you do this, you will overcharge the battery, and may
shorten its life or
damaged
it.
After recharging the battery, remove it from the charger. If, having recharged the battery, the
power
to the power
source is turned
off
and then back on while the battery is still connected, recharging will start again and the
battery
may
be
overcharged.
POWER SOURCE LOCATION ENVIRONMENT: Do not expose the power source to rain, snow, or moisture.
Use
of
an attachment not recommended or sold by KENWOOD may result in a risk
of
fire, electric shock, or
injury.
To reduce the risk
of
damage to the electric plug and cord, grasp & pull the plug rather than the cord when
disconnecting.
Make sure the cord is located so that it will not be stepped on, tripped over, or otherwise subjected to damage or
stress, or
cause
personal
injury.

10. An extension cord should not be used unless absolutely necessary. Use
of
an improper extension cord could result
in a risk
of
fire and electric shock.
If
an extension cord must be used, make sure: a)
That
the pins on the extension
cord plug are properly wired and in good electrical condition: and b) That the extension cord is properly wired and
in good electrical condition: and c) That the wire size is large enough for this power source.
For
cord length
within 100 feet or less, wire size should be not less than 18 AWG.
For
cord length within 150 feet or less, wire
size
should
be
not
less
than
16
AWG.
11. Do not operate the power source with a damaged cord or plug - replace the KMB-28 immediately.
12. Do not operate the power source
if
it has received a potentially damaging sharp blow, has been dropped, or has
otherwise
been
damaged in any way: Take it to a qualified serviceman.
13. Do not disassemble the power source, or any Kenwood adapters or accessories. Take it to a qualified serviceman
when service or repair is required. Incorrect re-assembly may result in the risk
of
electric shock or fire.
14. To reduce the risk
of
electric shock, unplug the power source from the AC power outletbefore attempting any
maintenance or cleaning. Turning
off
controls will not reduce the risk
of
shock or fire; the plug must be removed
from
the
AC
outlet.

COMBINING
TWO
CHARGER
ADAPTORS
Two or more KMB-28 power sources can be joined side by side to accommodate several sets
of
radios. Captive nuts
are on the right side (facing) and matching holes are on the left side
of
the KMB-28. Two extra black machine screws
are provided to attach a second KMB-28. Attach the KMB-28 units BEFORE installing chargers.
ASSEMBLY
1. Optional; 2 units may be fastened side-by-side using 2 supplied black Phillips screws. Join the units before
installingcharger cups. Captive nuts are on the chassissidewallright side (facing), & matching screw holes are on the
left
side.
2. Do not connect the AC line cord until after all chargers are installed, and the charger-locking bar is secured in
position. Install up to six Kenwood KSC-35 chargers (do not mix chargers).
a) Unpack the charger cups (transformers will not be used) from each radio carton.
b) Install three chargers in the frontrow & threechargersin the top rear row with a DC power cord plugged
in completely into each charger base. Slide the front edge
of
the bottom chargers under the KMB-28
front sloping edge.
c) Lock the chargers in place with the locking bar using the 2 supplied black Phillips machine screws. Be
careful not to pinch any DC power cords when the bar is installed.
3. Remove all packing material before operation. Do not block the vents.
4. Do not operate in or expose the KMB-28 power source to direct sunlight, heat, dampness, or precipitation.
5. Do not drop or insert conductive material, or any material, into the ventilation slots.
6. NOTE: Fully loaded with chargers, radios & batteries, the KMB-28weighsup to approximately 8 pounds (3.6kg).
7. Desk-top location: LIFT, DO NOT DRAG.The
KMB-28
weighs
approximately 8 pounds (3.6kg)fullyloaded.
Skid marks may be left on the desk- top.

MAINTENANCE
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Do not use the KMB-28 power source in high-temperature >35° C (95° F) or high humidityenvironments,in
direct sunlight, or near aheater.
2. Do not subject this charger adapter to undue vibrations or physical impact.
3. Make sure that the battery pack(s) or radios are properly installed and connected.
4. Clean the charger adapter with a soft cloth.
5.

use solvents, such as thinner and benzene, for cleaning.
