gineeredandmanufacturedto rigid qualitystandards,andshouldgiveyousatisfactory
anddependableoperationformany years.
The following explicitdefinitionsapplyinthisInstructionManual.

BEFORE OPERATION
TO PREVENT ELECTRIC SHOCK, FIRE ANDOTHERINJURY.
PLEASE NOTETHEFOLLOWINGS:
Donotplacethisunit,whereitwillbeexposedtodirect
sunlightorclosetoheatingappliances.
Donotplaceanythingontopofthecabinet.
Donotdroppiecesofmetal,needles,coinsandother elec-
tricallyconductivematerials into theunit.
Donottouchthepowerplug,whenyourhandsarewet.
To ensuregoodventilation,donotputanythingontopof
thecabinetandallowatleast15cm(6inches)of space be-
hindtheunit.
Donotpullthepowercord,whendisconnectingitfromthe
AC walloutlet. Grasp theplugandensurethatyourfingers
donottouchthelivepins.
Donotplacetheunitin areas of excessive dust,highhu-
midity oronunstable surfaces.
Ifanabnormalodororsmokeisdetected,immediately turn
thepoweroffandpulloutthepowerplug.
Contact the KENWOOD servicestationoryourdealer.
To avoidriskofelectricshock,undernocircumstances
shouldtheunitbeopened:
CLEANING
1. Turnthepoweroff,beforecleaningtheunit.
2. Donotuseanytypeofabrasivepad,thinner,benzineor
any substanceswhichmaydamagetheunit.
3. Wipethe front panelandotherexterior surfaces ofthe
unitwitha softdryclothora softcloth lightly moistened
withwater.

NOTE:
The followinginstructionsareforusebyeitheryour
KENWOOD dealer,anauthorized KENWOOD servicefacili-
ty,orthefactory.
WARNING:
Never connectACpowertotheDCPowerSupply until in-
stallationiscomplete.

CAUTIONS:
1. Priortoinstallation,checkthatthecorrectfuseisin-
stalled.
2. Choosea locationthatisrelativelyfreefromvibration.
3. Donotplacetheunitina placewhichisexposedtodirect
sunlight,neara heater,etc.
4. Donotstoreorusetheunitina dustylocationorina
moistatmosphere. Select a wellventilatedlocation.
5. Tomaintaingoodventilation:
Remove thepackingmaterials.
Donotcovertheunit.
Place theunitatleast10cm(4")awayfromthe walls.

WARNING:
Never connectACpowertotheDCPowerSupply until in-
stallationiscomplete.
CAUTIONS:
1. BeforeconnectingordisconnectingtheDCPowerCa-
ble, besureto turn offthe POWER switchesof both the
radioandtheDCPowerSupply.
2. ObservepolarityoftheDCPower Cable. Theradiooper-
ates on13.8VDC,negativeground.
NOTES:
1. TheDCPowerSupplywillnotoperateif the output ter-
minals areshorted.
2. TheDCPowerSupplymaynotoperateifthe POWER
switch isturnedonwiththeradiointransmitmodebe-
cause theprotectioncircuitmayoperate.
1. ConnecttheDCPowerCablefromtheradiototheOut-
putTerminalsonthe Rear Panel, asshowninFig.3-1.
Red lead-> Plus (+ ) Terminal

materials attached.
2. Neverremovethe case. Iftheinternalpartsareacciden-
tallytouched,a seriouselectricshock might occur.
3. Toreducetheriskoffireorelectricshock,donotex-
pose theDCPowerSupplytorainormoisture.

1. Turntheradio POWER switchonaftertheDCPower Sup-
ply POWER switchisturnedon.
NOTE:
IftheprotectioncircuitofDCPowerSupplyoperates,
turn the POWER switchesof both theradioandtheDC
Power Supplyoff,andperformtheprocedureabove
again.
2. Whencommunicationiscompletedfortheday, turn off
the POWER switchesof both theradioandtheDCPow-
er Supply.
5-1. GENERAL INFORMATION
Your DCPowerSupplyhasbeenfactoryadjustedandtest-
ed tospecificationsbeforeshipment.Undernormalcircum-
stances, theDCPowerSupplywilloperateinaccordance
withtheseoperatinginstructions.Alladjustmentswere
preset atthefactoryandshouldonlybereadjustedbya
qualifiedtechnicianwithpropertestequipment.Attempt-
ingserviceoradjustment without factoryauthorizationcan
voidtheDCPowerSupply'swarranty.IfyourDCPower
Supply failstowork,contacttheauthorized KENWOOD
dealer fromwhichyoupurchaseditforquick,reliablerepair.
NOTES:
1. Whenclaimingwarranty service, pleaseincludea photo-
copyofthe bill of sale, orotherproofofpurchaseshow-
ingthedateof sale.
2. RecordtheDateof Purchase, Serial NumberandDealer
fromwhompurchased.
3. Foryourowninformation,retaina writtenrecordofany
maintenance performedontheunit.
5-2. SERVICE
Should iteverbecome necessary toreturntheequipment
toyourdealerorservicecenterforrepair,packinitsorigi-
nal boxandpacking,andincludea full descriptionofthe
problemsinvolved.Alsoincludeyourtelephonenumber.You
need notreturn accessory itemsunlessdirectlyrelatedto
theserviceproblem.
CAUTION:
Donotpacktheequipmentincrushednewspaperforship-
ment. Extensive damagemayresultduringshipment.
NOTE:
Ifyoudesiretocorrespondona technicaloroperational
problem,pleasemakeyournoteshort,complete,andtothe
point, and PLEASE makeitreadable.
Please list:
Modeland Serial Number.
The problemyouarehaving.
Please givesufficientdetailtodiagnose.Informationsuch
as otherequipmentinthestation,meterreadingsandany-
thing else youfeel might beusefulinattemptingdiagnosis.
5-3.CLEANING
The DCPowerSupplyislikelytobecomesoiledafterex-
tendeduse.Itshouldbecleanedwitha siliconeclothora
clean drycloth.
CAUTION:
Donotusevolatilesolventssuchasalcohol,paintthinner,
gasoline, benzine,etc.

5-4. FUSE REPLACEMENT
Ifthefuseblows, DISCONNECT theACPowerCableand
contactandauthorizedKENWOODservicefacility;either
yourKENWOODdealer,orthefactorytorepairthe cause.
NOTE:
The following instructionsareforusebyeitheryour
KENWOOD dealer,anauthorized KENWOOD servicefacili-
ty,orthefactory.
WARNING:
1. NeverconnecttheACcabletotheAC outlet until fuse
replacementhasbeenmade.
2. Neverusea fuseofhigherrating.Replace with a new
fuse ofthesamerating.
Ifthefuseblows,checkforthe cause beforereplacingthe
defectivefuse.(Replacementfusesareavailable from your
authorizedKENWOODdealer.)
5-5. SUPPLY CORD REPLACEMENT
Ifthesupplycordofthisapplianceisdamaged,itmustonly
bereplacedbya repairshopappointedbythemanufacturer,
because specialpurposetoolsarerequired.

the Service Manual(usuallyavailableasan option from KEN-
