Your new Bite S ield™ Wall-Mount Flying Insect Trap combines multiple tec nologies to attract
not only flying insects, but allows you to target mosquito’s w en t ey are a problem!
• Th 4W UV black light bulb mits ultraviol t rays at th 365nm wav l ngth, which cr at s a photo
catalytic r action wh n it com s in contact with th Ti02 (Titanium Dioxid ) coating insid th Trap.
• Oct nol is a prov n attractant to blood-s king flying ins cts, and your Bit Shi ld™ Oct nol cartridg
will last b tw n 45 to 60 days.

PLACEMENT OF YOUR NEW TRAP
• S l ct th b st location to hang or mount your trap, r m mb ring that th Trap will attract flying ins cts
to it, so it should b plac d away from high-traffic ar as.
• If plac d indoors, k p away from food ar as.
• Do NOT us your Oct nol attractant cartridg wh n plac d indoors.
• If plac d outdoors, hang or mount your Trap at l ast on and a half m t rs (5 ft.) abov th ground,
id ally out of th r ach of childr n and p ts. It is always b st if your Trap is plac d in a spacious dark
location.
• If th mounting wall is solid wood at l ast 3/8” (9mm) thick, driv th provid d scr w onto th wood
surfac l aving a gap b tw n th scr w h ad and th wall of about 1/8” (3mm). Hang th trap from
th scr w by ins rting th h ad of th scr w into th slot at th back of th trap.
• If th mounting wall is concr t , brick, drywall or any oth r hard mat rial, drill a 3/16th inch hol , at
l ast as d p as th anchor l ngth. Ins rt th anchor into th hol until flush with wall surfac and driv
th provid d on inch long #8 Scr w into it, l aving a gap b tw n th scr w h ad and th wall of
about 1/8” (3mm). Hang th trap from th scr w by ins rting th h ad of th scr w into th slot at th
back of th trap.
OPERATION
• Conn ct th adapt r plug to th Trap first, and th n plug th adapt r dir ctly into th n ar st 110/120V
AC outl t or an approv d outdoor us xt nsion cord.
FOR OPTIMAL OPERATION AND PERFORMANCE
• Us your Trap as n d d, but avoid unn c ssary us .
• Wh n us d outdoors to captur mosquito s, it is r comm nd d to us at l ast b tw n suns t and
sunris , th ir most activ p riods.
• Stor th Trap wh n not in us .
MAINTENANCE FOR YOUR NEW TRAP
Periodica y check that your Trap is c ean and the airf ow is not b ocked.
• Empty th Catch Tray on a r gular basis (fr qu ncy and amount of ins ct catch will vary d p nding on
g ographical location and m t orological conditions)
• Always unplug th Trap b for cl aning.
• Wh n n d d, to cl an th upp r portion of your Trap pull g ntly on th c nt r of th cl ar window and
it will unsnap from th Trap. Wip or brush away any d bris around th bulb cov r and fan. You can
also us a damp cloth for cl aning, but do not us any sharp obj ct or d t rg nts or solv nts that
might scratch or scrap off th Ti02 coating.
• Dry all parts compl t ly b for r -ass mbling.
CHANGING THE UV BULB
Th light mitt d by th UV bulb provid d with your n w Trap is sp cially manufactur d to attract
mosquito s and oth r blood s king flying ins cts, as w ll as moths, gnats and oth r flying ins cts. Th
UV bulb is r plac abl at many local r tail rs (s T chnical Data S ction for bulb d tails), or can b
r -ord r d at www.koolatron.com, calling 1-800-265-8456.
To c ange your bulb:
• Unplug th adapt r from both th unit and th outl t.
• R mov th front cl ar window cov r by pulling GENTLY on th c nt r so it snaps out of th trap.
• Twist and r mov th non-functioning bulb and r plac with a n w bulb by ins rting th pins at th nd
into th sock ts and onc both pins of ach nd ar in, twist ¼ turn until th bulb pins snap into th
sock t contacts.
• R attach th cl ar window by pr ssing g ntly, making sur th sid s snap into th trap walls and
r main s cur in plac .
TROUBLE HOOTING TIP
TRAP DOES NOT OPERATE
• Mak sur th adapt r plug is n stl d snugly into th back of your Trap.
• Mak sur th adapt r plug is firmly ins rt d into th l ctrical outl t.
• Mak sur that th l ctrical outl t has pow r by trying oth r l ctrical d vic s that ar known to b
functional
UV LIGHT DOESN’T WORK WHILE FAN IS OPERATING
• Ch ck that th UV bulb is plac d corr ctly and s cur ly.
• R plac th UV bulb.
MY FAN STOPPED WORKING
• S th “Maint nanc ” S ction and follow instructions to mak sur th air flow is not block d, th
Catch Cup is not full and inhibiting air flow, and that th fan blad s ar not clogg d with d bris. Cl an
as n c ssary aft r unplugging th unit.
MY TRAP DOES NOT CATCH INSECTS EVEN WHEN LIGHT AND FAN ARE OPERATIONAL
• Mak sur that th catch tray is prop rly ins rt d all th way into th trap.
• Ch ck for obstructions or for ign obj cts blocking th airflow into th trap (slot und r th UV bulb)
• Ch ck th airflow dir ction by making sur that a strong str am of air is coming out from th bottom
of th unit. If this is not th cas , th fan may b inv rt d and it may n d to b s rvic d. Pl as call
Custom r S rvic if this is th cas .
• Ensur th catch tray do s not hav any hol s or t ars on th m sh ar as
• Ensur th trap is not clos to any ins ct r p ll nts, volatil substanc s or strong odors that may r p l

• Mak sur you hav l ft th trap on at l ast for a full night (from 5pm to 6am for xampl ) and that th
w ath r is not too cold for ins cts to b out.
