The following instructions explain how to replace
the LNB in a TracVision®HD7 antenna.
NOTE: Your antenna might have parts that differ from
those pictured in this document. Such differences have no
bearing on the instructions unless noted otherwise.
Tools Required
This procedure requires the following tools:
• #2 Phillips screwdriver
• 5/16" open-end or box wrench
• 7/16" open-end or box wrench
• 11/32" open-end or box wrench
•Flushcutters
• 7 mm open-end wrench (supplied in kit)
• #2 Phillips torque screwdriver or torque
wrench with a 11/32" hex bit set to 21 in.-lbs
• Torque wrench with:
5/16" bit (11 in.-lbs)
7/16" bit (15 in.-lbs)
7 mm hex bit (11 in.-lbs)

Step 1 - Disconnect Power and Remove the
Radome
Follow the steps below to disconnect power and
remove the radome.
a. Turn off the ACU. Then unplug both the ACU
power cable and the SWM power inserter
power cable to disconnect all power from the
antenna. Follow all shipboard lockout/tagout
procedures, where applicable.
b. Using a #2 Phillips screwdriver, remove and
discard the #10-32 screws securing the radome
to the baseplate (see Figure 2).
c. Carefully lift the radome straight up until clear
of the antenna assembly and set it aside in a
safe place.
CAUTION
To prevent injury, be sure to disconnect all
power from the antenna before proceeding.
Power must remain disconnected for the
duration of this procedure.
Important!
If you keep the radome topside, secure it with a
lanyard to prevent it from falling overboard.
Do not place the radome on a hot steel deck – the
heat may warp the radome.

Step 2 - Replace the LNB
Follow the steps below to replace the LNB.
a. If you are replacing a Tri-AmericasTM LNB, use
a 5/16" wrench to remove and discard the two
#6-32 lock nuts and washers securing the Hall
Effect magnet fixture to the gyro bracket. Set
aside the magnet fixture (see Figure 3).
If you are replacing a standard LNB, skip to
step b.
b. Using an 11/32" wrench to hold the nut in the
lower right LNB eyelet, remove the P-clip,
screw, and nut using a #2 Phillips screwdriver
(see Figure 4). Then carefully remove the P-clip
from the skew cable wrap and discard the
P-clip, screw, and nut.
c. Cut and discard the tie-wraps securing the RF
cables to the lower left eyelet and to the back of
the LNB (see Figure 4 and Figure 5).

d. Cut and discard the two tie-wraps securing the
scuff plate and discard the plate. Then cut and
discard the tie-wrap securing the RF cables (see
Figure 6).
e. Using a 7/16" open-end wrench, disconnect the
four RF cable connectors from the LNB (see
Figure 6). Remove the RF4 connector, first, and
then remove RF3, RF2, and RF1 connectors in
sequence.
f. Reconnect the RF1 connector, first, and then
reconnect the RF2, RF3, and RF4 connectors in
sequence.
g. Using a 7 mm open-end wrench (supplied in kit),
remove and discard the four hex nuts that
secure the LNB studs to the feed (see Figure 7).
h. Remove and discard the LNB.
i. Using the 7 mm open-end wrench, secure the
new LNB’s studs to the feed with four new
M4 hex nuts (see Figure 7). Then tighten the
nuts to 11 in.-lbs torque.
j. Using a 7/16" open-end torque wrench,
reconnect the four RF cables to the LNB and
orient the cables as shown in Figure 8.
Reconnect the RF1 connector, first, and then
reconnect the RF2, RF3, and RF4 connectors in
sequence.
Ensure the cable wires each lie flat against the
previous connector, as shown in Figure 8, or the
scuff plate will not seat correctly.
Tighten the connectors to 15 in.-lbs torque.
k. Secure the RF2, RF3, and RF4 cables together
with a tie-wrap (supplied in kit) through one of
the two LNB mounting holes and between RF1
and RF2 (see Figure 6).
l. Place a new scuff plate (supplied in kit) onto the
LNB (see Figure 6).
m. Secure the scuff plate to the LNB with two
tie-wraps (supplied in kit) through the two LNB
mounting holes (see Figure 6).

n. Secure the RF cables to the back of the LNB and
lower left eyelet with tie-wraps (supplied in kit)
(see Figure 9 and Figure 10).
o. Secure the skew cable wrap to the LNB with a
new P-clip (supplied in kit) (see Figure 10).
Ensure the P-clip is mounted on the inside of the
LNB, facing the reflector, and angled about 5°
toward the skew motor.
p. Using a#2 Phillips screwdriver and an 11/32"
wrench, secure the P-clip to the back of the
bottom right-hand LNB eyelet with a new #8-32
screw and hex nut (supplied in kit). Tighten the
screw to 21 in.-lbs torque.
q. If you are replacing a Tri-Americas LNB, use a
5/16" wrench to secure the Hall Effect magnet
fixture you removed earlier to the gyro bracket
with two new #6-32 lock nuts and washers (see
Figure 3 on page 3). Position the magnet fixture
1/8" from the LNB using a shim (supplied in kit)
(see Figure 11). Then tighten the nuts to
11 in.-lbs of torque while holding the fixture in
place.
If you are replacing a standard LNB, skip to
step r.
r. Rotate the LNB through its full range of motion
at all elevation angles to ensure that there is no
interference, that the skew cable wrap is
correctly oriented, and that the scuff plate and
RF connectors are aligned and installed
correctly.

Step 3 - Install Radome and Apply Power
Follow the steps below to reinstall the radome and
reconnect power.
a. Inspect the inside of the antenna to make sure
you have not left any tools or debris inside.
b. Reinstall the radome onto the antenna (see
Figure 12). Secure the radome with six or eight
new #10-32 screws (supplied in kit).
c. Reconnect power to the antenna.
Step 4 - Update the Software
Follow the instructions in the TracVision HD7
Installation Guide or User’s Guide to update the
system software to the latest version, then test
antenna operation. If the problem persists, contact
KVH Technical Support.
The replacement procedure is complete!
