UNIT DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
The DW Dual Te c hn ology Wall Switch sensors combine adva n ced pass i ve
i n f ra red (PIR) and ultrasonic te c h n o logies into one unit. The co m b i n e d
tech no logies help to eliminate false triggering even in difficult applications.
Se le cta b le operating modes allow the sensor to turn a load on, and hold it on as
long as either or both te c h n o log ies detect occup an c y. After no movement is
d e te c ted for the selec ted time delay, the lights switch off. A “walk-thro ug h”
mode can turn lights off after only 3 minutes, if no activity is dete c ted after 30
se conds following an occupancy detect i on .
The DW-100 has one relay and one ON/OFF button. The DW-200 co n tains two
relays and two ON/OFF buttons to allow co n t rol of one or two loa d s
in de p en de n tl y. Pressing a button tog gles the sta te of the co r responding rel ay.
DW sensors contain a light level sensor. If adequate daylight is present, the
sensor holds the load OFF until light levels drop, even if the area is occupied. In
the DW-200, light level only affects the load on Relay 2. Users can override this
function by pres sing the ON/OFF button. See Light Level Adjust me nt .
Turning The Load ON
The relays are pro grammed independently for either Auto ON or Manual ON. In
either mode, the load can be turned ON or OFF using the ON/OFF butto n.
Load turns ON and OFF auto m a t i cal ly based on occ up a nc y. If the
load is turned OFF manually, it stays OFF until 5 minutes afte r
the last occupancy detection, at which time it reverts to Auto ON
mode. This prevents the load from turning ON auto m a t i ca lly
af ter it was delibera te ly turned OFF. Pre ssing the button to turn
lights ON returns the sensor to Auto ON mode.
** DW-100: Switch 9 is not used. DW-200: Switch 9 default is ON to co m p ly
with CA Energy Commission Title 24 bi-level switching re q ui rem en t s.
Time Delays
The DW sensor holds the load ON until no motion is dete c ted for the sele c te d
time delay. Select the time delay using DIP switch settings. The sensor
au to m a t i ca l ly sets the time delay when SmartSet is enabled. In the DW- 2 00 ,
both relays use the same delay.

The sensor keeps the load ON until no motion is detec t ed for the
se le c ted time delay. There is a 30 second re-retrigger delay. If
o ccupancy re - t r i g g e rs during the delay (see Trigger Mode), the
sensor turns the load back ON. After the re-trigger delay
elapses the ON/OFF button must be pre ssed to turn ON the loa d.

The DW sensor turns the load OFF 3 minutes after the
area is initially occupied, if no motion is dete c ted afte r
the first 30 seconds. If motion continues beyond the
f i rst 30 seconds, the set time delay applies.

The DW can provide audible alerts as a warning befo re the load turns OFF.

PIR Sensitivity Adjustment
The DW sensor co n stant ly monito rs the co n t rol led environment and
au to m a t i ca l ly adjusts the PIR to avoid common ambient conditions that ca n
cause false detections, while providing maximum cove rage.
Time delays of 5, 1 5 (de fault), or 30 minutes are
ava il ab le. See DIP SWITCH SETTINGS for inform a ti on .
SmartSet™ auto
adjust time delay
and Test Mode
R e co rds typical occupancy patterns. Using this histor y
(which is co n stant ly updated), it chooses an optimal
time delay from 7 minutes (if the space is usually
va cant) up to 30 minutes (if the space gets heavy
usage). SmartSet behavior starts immediately, and is
refined co nt i n u al ly as history is co l le cte d.
A Te st Mode with a short time delay of 5 seconds is set
when DIP switches 1 & 2 are OFF. It ca n ce l s
au to m a t i ca l ly after five minutes, or when you set a
fi xed time delay. To restart Te st Mode, change the time
delay setting to any fixed amount and then return it to
the Auto /Te st setting.
Re du ces sensitivity by approx i m a te ly 50%. Useful in
cases where the PIR is detecting movement outside of
the desired area (also consider masking the lens) and
wh ere heat sources cause unnece ssary activa t i o n .

PIR Sensor
The sensor has a two - t i e red, multi-
cell viewing Fresnel lens with 180
de gree field of view. The red LED
on the sensor flashes when the PIR
d e tects motion.
Masking the lens
Opaque adhesive tape is supplied
so that sections of the PIR sensor’s
v i ew can be masked. You can

Ultrasonic Sensor
The sensor has two ultrasonic tra n sc e i ve rs operating at 40kHz. Dete c ti o n
sensitivity can be adjusted using the trimpot under the ON/OFF button s.
Trigger Mode
The DW sensor has 4 occupancy trigger options, set with DIP switches 5 and 6.

In the Trigger Mode DIP switch setting ta b le ,

Initial Occ u p a n c y: The method that activa tes a change from “Standby” (are a
un oc cupied and load off) to “Occupied” (area occupied and load may turn on).
M a i n tain Occ u p an c y: The method indicating that the area is still occupied and the
lights should remain on.
Re- tri gge r: In Automatic Mode, after the load turns off, detection by the sele c te d
tech no logy within the number of seconds indica ted turns the lights back on. If the
load was turned on with the ON/OFF button, the re-trigger time is 30 seco nd s .

1. M ake sure that the power has been turned OFF at the circuit bre ake r.
2. Connect wires to the DW flying leads as shown in the wiring diagram below
that is approp ri a te to the DW model and ele ct ri cal supply.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Lights do not turn ON with motion (LED does flash)
1. P re ss and re lease each button to make sure that the co r rect lights co m e
ON for each rela y. If the lights do NOT turn ON, check wire co n n e c t i o n s ,
e s p e c i a l lythe Load connection. If the lights turn ON, verify that the
co r rect On Mode is sele c ted in DIP switches 8 and 9.
2. Check to see if light level co nt rol is enabled: cover the sensor lens with
your hand. If the lights come ON, adjust the light level setting.
3. If lights still do not turn ON, call 800.879.8585 for tech ni cal support.
Lights do not turn ON with motion (LED does not flash)
1. P re ss and re lease each button. Make sure that the co r rect lights come
ON for each rela y. If the lights turn ON, set PIR and Ultrasoic Sensitivity
to High.
2. Check the wire connections, in particular, the Neutral and Line
connections. Verify that connections are tightly secured.
3. If lights still do not turn ON, call 800.879.8585 for tech ni cal support.
ADJUSTMENTS
Sensor Adjustment
Re mo ve the wall plate. Remove the button cap by firmly squeezing together the
top sides of the button ass e m b ly. Gently pull it away from the unit.
When the adjustments are co m p leted, repl ace the button cap by inserting its
hinges into the tabs on the main unit and then squeeze the top of the button while
pre ssing it into the unit. Reinstall the cover plate.
Light Level Adjustment
The light level can be set with loads ON or OFF. To enable light level co nt rol and
set the threshold: 1) Make sure the room is lit appro p ri at ely. 2) Put the sensor into
TEST mode. You have 5 minutes to co m p le te the pro ced ure. 3) Press and hold the
ON/OFF button (Relay 1b u tton on the DW-200) for 3 seconds, until you hear a
beep. 4) Step away from the sensor. After 25 seconds a beep sounds, indica t i n g
that the threshold level is set. This threshold is re tained, even if power is los t,
until it is re-set or disabled. In the DW-200, light level con t rol only affects Relay 2.
To disable light level co n t rol, pre ss and hold the Relay 1b u tton for 7 second s,
until a double beep tone sounds.
Reset to Default
To reset the DW to fa c tory settings, pre ss and hold the Relay 1b u t to n for 1 0
secon ds, until a triple beep sounds. This resets the sensor occupancy history and
di sa b les light level co n t rol (the brighte st ambient light will not hold the light OFF).

Lights do not turn OFF
1. T he re can be up to a 30 minute time delay after the last motion is
d e te c ted. To verify proper operation, set DIP switch 1 to ON, then rese t
sw it ches 1 and 2 to OFF to start Te st Mode. Move out of view of the
se ns o r. The lights should turn OFF in approx i m a te ly 5 seco n d s .
2. Verify that the sensor is mounted at le ast six feet (2 mete rs) away from
any heating/ventilating/air conditioning dev i ce that may cause fa l s e
d e tection. Verify that there is no significant heat source (e.g., high wattage
light bulb) mounted near the sensor.
3. Verify that the trimpot is not pointing at “override” (red LED on). If so,
ro ta te the trimpot to it’s middle setting (pointing up). The override setting
al lows users to opera te the sensor as a service switch in the unlikely
event of a fail u re.
4. If the lights still do not turn OFF, call 800.879.8585 for te ch n ical support.
Sensing motion outside desired areas
1. S el ect PIR Sensitivity – Low (DIP switch 4 = ON) if nece ss ar y.
2. Mask the PIR sensor’s lens to eliminate unwanted cove rage area.
