INTRODUCTION
Nous sommes heureux de vous compter aujourd’hui parmi les très nombreux utilisateurs des produits
LEXIBOOK. Voici le nouveau traducteur Français-Anglais NTL250i1 de Lexibook. Elaboré en
collaboration avec un expert en langues européennes, il vous garantit les meilleures traductions du
langage courant, parlé ou écrit. Il contient 10,000 mots ou expressions par langue pour traduire sans
difculté tous types de documents ou de dialogues. Il contient également 500 phrases par langue
réparties en 10 thèmes pour vous permettre de traduire les principales situations vécues lors d’un
voyage à l’étranger.
Nous vous invitons à lire attentivement ce mode d’emploi pour proter au maximum de toutes les
fonctions offertes par le NTL250i1.

Ouvrir et refermer le NTL250i1 :
Pour ouvrir l’appareil, appuyez sur le bouton situé sur le devant du boîtier.
Pour le refermer, rabaissez le couvercle et appuyez jusqu’à entendre le click de fermeture.

Pour mettre en marche et arrêter l’appareil.

Pour afcher une liste de fonction : Langue d’afchage, Conversion devise,
Calculatrice et Horloge.
Pour faire déler l’écran vers le haut ou afcher le mot précédent ou la phrase
précédente de la liste.
Pour faire déler l’écran vers le bas ou afcher le mot suivant ou la phrase
suivante de la liste.
Pour déplacer le curseur vers la gauche.
Pour faire déler les longs afchages vers la gauche.
et pour revenir directement au début du mot ou de la phrase.
Pour déplacer le curseur vers la droite.
Pour faire déler les longs afchages vers la droite.
et pour aller directement à la n du mot ou de la phrase.
Pour taper les chiffres utilisés avec la calculatrice et la conversion monétaire.
Pour taper un point en mode Calculatrice.
Addition, soustraction, multiplication et division en mode Calculatrice.
M+, M-, MC et MR en mode Calculatrice.
Pourcentage, Racine carrée et signe +/- en mode Calculatrice.
Symboles écran
• En mode traduction (mot ou phrase), la langue utilisée est afchée à gauche de l’écran par l’abréviation
AN pour Anglais ou FR pour Français.
• Il y a 4 symboles de èche à droite de l’écran. Ces symboles clignotent pour indiquer quelle èche peut
être utilisée pour faire déler l’écran.
BIEN DEMARRER
Retirer la languette de protection de la pile
Avant toute manipulation, veillez à retirer la languette de plastique qui protège la pile.
Pour cela, dévissez la vis du compartiment-pile au dos de l’appareil à l’aide d’un tournevis et retirez la trappe.
Soulevez la pile pour dégager la languette de plastique puis repositionnez la pile. Refermez la trappe du
compartiment-pile et revissez.
Si après cette manipulation le Traducteur ne se met pas en route, procédez à un Reset de l’appareil :
1. Localisez le trou du RESET au dos de l’appareil.
2. Insérez une pointe ne et appuyez doucement.
3. L’écran du Traducteur doit maintenant afcher Enter a word (afchage en Anglais par défaut, pour
passer à l’afchage en Français, voir paragraphe « Modier la langue d’afchage »).
Mise en marche
Appuyez sur pour mettre l’appareil en marche.
Appuyez à nouveau sur pour l’arrêter.
L’écran LEXIBOOK s’afche brièvement, puis l’écran indiquant le sens de traduction et les langues utilisées
ANGLAIS > FRANCAIS s’afchera également brièvement.
Enn, l’écran Tapez un mot s’afchera.
Note : La langue d’afchage par défaut est l’Anglais. Dans ce cas les messages d’accueil seront les
suivants : LEXIBOOK , ENGLISH > FRENCH et enn Enter a word . Reportez vous au paragraphe
ci-dessous pour modier la langue d’afchage par défaut.

Modier la langue d’afchage
1. Appuyez sur MENU pour afcher l’option Langue AFFICHAGE.
2. Appuyez sur ENTRER pour conrmer. La langue utilisée est d’abord afchée.
Exemple: English .
3. Appuyez sur ou pour afcher Francais.
4. Appuyez sur ENTRER pour conrmer.
Contraste Ecran
Le contraste de l’écran est réglable à partir de l’écran Tapez un mot. Pour revenir à l’écran Tapez un
mot appuyez sur EFFACER :
• Appuyez sur pour éclaircir l’écran ou sur pour foncer l’écran.
• Chaque fois que vous appuyez sur la touche l’écran afche Contraste -. Chaque fois que vous
appuyez sur la touche l’écran afche Contraste + .
Aide à l’écran
A tout moment vous pouvez obtenir de l’aide en appuyant sur la touche AIDE . Le Traducteur
afchera alors la liste des rubriques d’aide disponibles:

5. Traduction des phrases

1. Appuyez sur ou sur pour passer d’une rubrique à l’autre jusqu’à trouver celle que vous cherchez.
2. Appuyez sur ENTRER pour conrmer. Le message d’aide délera automatiquement à l’écran.
3. Pour suspendre le délement, appuyez sur ESPACE . Pour reprendre le délement appuyez
sur ESPACE à nouveau.
4. Pour revenir à la liste des rubriques appuyez sur RETOUR .
5. Pour revenir à l’utilisation du Traducteur, appuyez sur EFFACER .
A la n du message d’aide, le Traducteur reviendra automatiquement là où vous étiez avant d’appuyer
sur AIDE .
Fonctions
Le Traducteur a plusieurs fonctions. Pour les atteindre :
• Appuyez sur la touche TRADUCTEUR pour la traduction des mots.
• Appuyez sur la touche PHRASES pour la traduction des phrases.
• Appuyez sur la touche JEUX pour les jeux.
• Appuyez sur la touche AIDE pour l’aide.
• Appuyez sur la touche MENU pour accéder au menu des autres fonctions : Langue d’afchage,
Conversion devise, Calculatrice et Horloge.
Arrêt automatique
Le Traducteur s’arrêtera automatiquement après 2 minutes de non-utilisation. Pour le remettre en
marche, appuyez sur .

TRADUCTION DES MOTS
Traduction mot à mot
1. Appuyez sur la touche TRADUCTEUR .
2. L’écran afche la paire de langues utilisée et le sens de la traduction.
Ex : FRANCAIS > ANGLAIS .
3. Tapez le mot à traduire et appuyez sur ENTRER ou sur la touche CIBLE pour voir sa
traduction.
4. Pour revenir au mot tapé appuyez sur la touche SOURCE ou RETOUR .
5. Si le mot tapé n’est pas dans la liste du Traducteur, il vous sera proposé automatiquement le mot le
plus approchant. Utilisez alors les touches ou pour faire déler les mots par ordre alphabétique
et retrouver le mot voulu ou un dérivé du mot.
IMPORTANT : Il se peut que le même mot ait plusieurs traductions. Pour éviter les contresens nous vous
conseillons vivement de vérier s’il y a d’autres traductions pour le même mot.
Corriger le mot tapé
En cours de frappe, appuyez sur EFFACER pour effacer le dernier caractère tapé ou utilisez les
èches ou pour vous placer à l’endroit où vous souhaitez insérer une lettre.
Changer la langue-source
1. Partez de l’écran Tapez un mot .
2. Appuyez deux fois sur la touche SOURCE pour afcher l’autre langue disponible. Le Traducteur
reviendra ensuite automatiquement à l’écran Tapez un mot. Le Traducteur sélectionnera
automatiquement l’autre langue comme langue-cible.
Exemple : Pour changer FRANCAIS > ANGLAIS en ANGLAIS > FRANCAIS appuyez deux fois sur
SOURCE pour afcher ANGLAIS puis relâchez. L’écran afchera ensuite automatiquement la
nouvelle combinaison de traduction.
Taper des lettres capitales ou accentuées
Appuyez et maintenez enfoncée la touche SHIFT puis appuyez sur la lettre voulue une fois pour
obtenir sa majuscule ou plusieurs fois pour afcher successivement ses différentes formes accentuées.
Exemple : Appuyez simultanément sur SHIFT et une première fois sur pour taper le A
majuscule, puis une deuxième fois sur pour taper le et une troisième fois pour taper le .
Catégorie grammaticale
Les catégories grammaticales des mots sont indiquées à droite de l’écran par une abréviation en
majuscule (voir annexe 1). Si le mot tapé ou traduit est plus long que l’écran, appuyez sur la touche
pour faire déler l’écran ou sur SHIFT + pour aller directement à la n de la ligne.
Traduction automatique
Une fois la traduction obtenue, vous pouvez obtenir la traduction automatique des mots qui le précèdent
ou qui le suivent dans la liste alphabétique de la langue-source.
1. Appuyez sur les touches ou pour afcher les mots qui précèdent ou suivent dans la
langue-source.
2. Chaque mot afché sera ensuite automatiquement traduit dans la langue-cible.
Vous pouvez ainsi faire déler tous les mots de la langue source du Traducteur Lexibook :
c’est un excellent moyen de réviser son vocabulaire avec un minimum de manipulation !
Si vous atteignez l’un ou l’autre des bouts de la liste des 10,000 mots, le message DEBUT DE LISTE ou
FIN DE LISTE vous avertira.

Accès direct aux phrases contenant le mot à traduire
Une fois la traduction obtenue, appuyez sur la touche PHRASES pour afcher la liste des phrases
dans la langue-source qui contiennent le mot tapé.
Exemple : Après avoir tapé le mot PRIX et obtenu sa traduction en anglais PRICE, appuyez sur la touche
PHRASES pour obtenir la liste des phrases françaises contenant le mot “prix”. Appuyez sur
ENTRER pour obtenir la traduction d’une phrase.
TRADUCTION DES PHRASES
Le traducteur Lexibook dispose d’une liste de phrases pour dialoguer et communiquer plus facilement.
Elles sont réparties en plusieurs catégories :

Recherche par thème
1. Appuyez sur la touche PHRASES pour accéder au mode traduction des phrases.
2. L’écran afche d’abord la paire de langues et le sens de traduction, ex : Anglais > Francais puis
afche ensuite la première option du mode PHRASES : Categorie .
3. Appuyez sur ENTRER pour accéder à la liste des catégories : AFFAIRES .
4. Appuyez sur pour afcher la catégorie suivante.
5. Quand la catégorie voulue est afchée appuyez sur ENTRER pour accéder à la liste des phrases.
6. Appuyez sur ou pour afcher les autres phrases de la liste.
7. Quand la phrase voulue est afchée, appuyez sur ENTRER pour voir sa traduction.
Appuyez sur la touche pour lire la n de la phrase ou SHIFT + pour aller directement à
la n. Appuyez sur pour revenir au début de la phrase SHIFT + pour revenir directement au
début.
8. Pour revenir à la liste des catégories appuyez sur EFFACER .
Appuyez sur la touche TRADUCTEUR pour revenir au mode de traduction des mots ou sur une
autre touche de fonction pour accéder à l’un des autres modes du Traducteur.
Recherche par mot-clé
Le NTL250i1 vous permet de lister les phrases contenant le mot que vous voulez.
1. Appuyez sur PHRASES pour accéder au mode traduction des phrases.
2. Appuyez sur la touche pour afcher l’option Recherche du mot .
3. Appuyez sur ENTRER pour conrmer. L’écran afche Tapez un mot .
4. Tapez le mot à rechercher et appuyez sur ENTRER pour afcher la liste des phrases contenant le
mot (dans la langue-source). Appuyez sur la èche pour afcher les autres phrases de la liste.
5. Quand la phrase voulue est afchée appuyez sur ENTRER pour afcher sa traduction.
6. Si le mot n’est dans aucune des phrases du Traducteur, l’écran afchera : Aucun mot trouve .
Appuyez sur la touche TRADUCTEUR pour revenir au mode de traduction des mots ou sur une
autre touche de fonction pour accéder à l’un des autres modes du Traducteur.

JEUX
Le NTL250i1 propose deux jeux de lettres éducatifs à jouer dans chacune des langues, le Pendu et le
Méli-Mélo.
Jeu du Pendu
1. Appuyez sur la touche JEUX pour accéder au menu des jeux.
2. L’écran afche JEU DU PENDU . Appuyez sur ENTRER pour conrmer.
3. L’écran afche la langue-source utilisée ANGLAIS ?.
Appuyez sur ENTRER pour conrmer ce choix ou sur la touche SOURCE pour choisir une
autre langue pour jouer.
4. L’écran afche LONGUEUR DU MOT ? puis <03> lettres ? . Appuyez sur les touches ou
pour augmenter ou réduire la longueur du mot (mini.3 et max. 13 lettres).
5. Appuyez sur ENTRER pour conrmer votre choix et lancer le jeu.
6. L’écran afche une série de points d’interrogation représentant les lettres du mot à deviner.
Exemple : ???????? 9 . Le chiffre 9 indique le nombre de chances pour jouer.
7. Proposez des lettres en appuyant sur leur touche respective. Si la lettre est correcte elle sera insérée
à sa place dans le mot. Si la lettre n’est pas dans le mot, l’écran afchera : Pas de X et le nombre
de chances restant à jouer diminuera d’autant. Si vous tapez une lettre déjà donnée, l’écran afchera
X deja utilisee sans diminuer le nombre de chances.
8. Vous pouvez obtenir de l’aide pour votre jeu, soit en appuyant sur la touche pour afcher la
traduction du mot à deviner dans la langue-cible, soit en appuyant sur ENTRER pour révéler une
lettre. Dans ce dernier cas le nombre de chances restantes sera diminué.
Si vous devinez le mot avant d’épuiser toutes vos chances vous avez gagné. Sinon vous avez perdu
et le Traducteur afchera le mot correct que vous n’avez pas trouvé.
Appuyez sur la touche ESPACE pour abandonner le jeu en cours et obtenir la réponse
correcte.
Appuyez sur ENTRER pour démarrer un nouveau jeu ou sur RETOUR ou la touche
JEUX pour afcher le menu Jeu.
Appuyez sur la touche SOURCE si vous voulez changer la langue dans laquelle vous voulez jouer.
Appuyez sur EFFACER pour revenir au mode de traduction des mots ou sur une autre touche de
fonction pour accéder à l’un des autres modes du Traducteur.
Jeu du Méli-Mélo
1. Appuyez sur la touche JEUX pour accéder au menu.
2. L’écran afche JEU DU PENDU . Appuyez sur pour afcher l’option JEU DU MELI-MELO.
3. Appuyez sur ENTRER pour conrmer.
4. L’écran afche la langue-source utilisée ANGLAIS ? . Appuyez sur ENTRER pour conrmer ce
choix ou sur la touche SOURCE pour choisir une autre langue pour jouer.
5. L’écran afche LONGUEUR DU MOT ? , puis <03> lettres ? . Appuyez sur les touches ou
pour augmenter ou réduire la longueur du mot (mini. 3 et max. 13 lettres).
6. Appuyez sur ENTRER pour conrmer votre choix et lancer le jeu.
7. L’écran afche les lettres du mot à deviner dans le désordre.
Exemple : BEDLUMJ 9 . Le chiffre 9 indique le nombre de chances pour jouer.
8. Tapez le mot que vous pensez correspondre aux lettres et appuyez sur la touche ENTRER pour
savoir si c’est correct. Pendant que vous tapez le mot, vous pouvez revoir les lettres dans le désordre
en appuyant sur la touche . Appuyez sur pour reprendre la frappe.
9. Si le mot proposé n’est pas le bon, vous perdrez une chance et vous êtes invité à essayer à nouveau :

10. Vous pouvez obtenir de l’aide pour votre jeu, soit en appuyant sur la touche pour afcher la
traduction du mot à deviner dans la langue-cible, soit en appuyant sur ENTRER pour modier le
désordre des lettres.
Si vous devinez le mot avant d’épuiser toutes vos chances vous avez gagné. Sinon vous avez perdu
et le Traducteur afchera le mot correct que vous n’avez pas trouvé.

CONVERTISSEUR DE DEVISES
La fonction conversion de devises du Traducteur NTL250i1 de Lexibook est conforme aux règles de
conversions européennes.
Sélectionner les monnaies pour la conversion
1. Appuyez sur la touche MENU pour afcher la liste des autres fonctions du traducteur. L’écran
afche la première option : Langue affichage.
2. Appuyez sur la touche pour afcher l’option Conversion devise et appuyez sur ENTRER pour
conrmer.
3. La conversion par défaut est afchée : FRF > EURO .
4. Pour modier la monnaie de gauche, appuyez sur la touche pour faire déler
toutes les monnaies disponibles. De la même manière pour modier la monnaie de droite, appuyez
sur la touche .
5. Pour modier le sens de la conversion appuyez sur la touche EFFACER .
Conversion entre deux monnaies de l’Euroland
1. Sélectionnez la combinaison souhaitée pour la conversion avec les èches ou .
Exemple : FRF > ITL .
2. Pour voir le taux de conversion utilisé, appuyez sur : 1 Euro=FRF 6.55957 .
Tous les taux xes de l’Euro pour les 11 monnaies de l’Euroland sont déjà enregistrés dans le
Traducteur NTL250i1. Ils ne peuvent pas être modiés (voir en annexe 2 la liste des monnaies de
l’Euroland et leur taux xe).
3. Appuyez sur pour revenir à la conversion et tapez le montant à convertir en utilisant les touches
sur lesquelles sont inscrits les chiffres et le point décimal (touche G). Exemple : FRF 234 .
4. Appuyez sur ENTRER ou pour afcher le résultat ITL 69072.70 . Vous pouvez passer d’un
montant à l’autre en utilisant les èches et .
5. Pour recommencer, tapez un nouveau montant et appuyez sur ENTRER ou .
Conversion entre une monnaie Euroland et une monnaie hors Euroland
1. Sélectionnez la combinaison souhaitée pour la conversion avec les èches ou .
Exemple : FRF > USD.
2. Appuyez sur la touche pour déterminer le taux de conversion approprié. L’écran afche
FRF >USD taux ? .
3. Tapez le taux en Dollar pour 1 Euro en utilisant les touches sur lesquelles sont inscrits les chiffres et le
point décimal (touche G).
Exemple : EURO > USD 1.07
4. Appuyez sur ENTRER pour enregistrer le taux. Le taux s’afche quelques secondes
1 EURO = USD 1.07 puis l’écran revient à la combinaison de départ FRF > USD .
5. Procédez comme indiqué dans le paragraphe précédent pour effectuer une conversion.

Conversion entre deux monnaies hors Euroland
1. Sélectionnez la combinaison souhaitée pour la conversion avec les èches ou .
Exemple : GBP > USD
2. Appuyez sur la touche pour déterminer le taux de conversion approprié. L’écran afche
GBP > USD taux ?.
3. Tapez le taux en Dollar pour 1 GBP en utilisant les touches sur lesquelles sont inscrits les chiffres et le
point décimal (touche G). Ex : 1.51
4. Appuyez sur ENTRER pour enregistrer le taux. Le taux s’afche quelques secondes
1 USD = USD 1.51 puis l’écran revient à la combinaison de départ GBP > USD .
5. Procédez comme indiqué dans le paragraphe précédent pour effectuer une conversion.
Note : En appuyant sur la touche vous afchez le taux de conversion correspondant à la monnaie de
gauche (monnaie de “départ”). Ex : pour FRF >USD le taux afché sera 1Euro=FRF 6.55957 ,
pour USD >FRF le taux afché sera 1 Euro=USD 1.07.
Appuyez sur la touche TRADUCTEUR pour revenir au mode de traduction des mots ou sur une
autre touche de fonction pour accéder à l’un des autres modes du Traducteur.
CALCULATRICE
La calculatrice du Traducteur Lexibook est une calculatrice 12-chiffres avec mémoire.
1. Appuyez sur la touche MENU .
2. Appuyez deux fois sur la touche pour afcher l’option Calculatrice.
3. Appuyez sur ENTRER pour accéder au mode Calculatrice.
4. Utilisez les touches sur lesquelles sont inscrits les chiffres et les symboles de calcul pour effectuer vos
opérations (voir guide des touches au début du mode d’emploi).
HORLOGE
L’horloge du Traducteur Lexibook vous donne l’heure et la date.
Afcher l’heure et la date

3. Appuyez sur ENTRER pour conrmer ce choix ou sur pour afcher l’option du format
24-heures Format 24H ? . Appuyez sur ENTRER pour conrmer votre choix.
4. L’écran afche la mise à l’heure : HH : MM. Tapez l’heure exacte à l’aide des touches de chiffres.
En format 12-heures utilisez les touches et pour passer de AM à PM.
5. Appuyez sur ENTRER pour conrmer.
6. L’écran afche la mise à jour de la date JJ : MM : AAAA. Tapez la date du jour à l’aide des touches de
chiffres.
7. Appuyez sur ENTRER pour conrmer.

RESET
Dans le cas très improbable où votre Traducteur cesserait de fonctionner, appliquez la procédure suivante :
1. Localisez le trou du Reset au dos de l’appareil.
2. Insérez une pointe ne et appuyez doucement puis relâchez.
Votre Traducteur devrait redémarrer et afcher l’écran Tapez un mot . Si votre appareil ne redémarre
pas, changez la pile.

REMPLACEMENT DE LA PILE
La référence de la pile utilisée dans votre Traducteur Lexibook est CR2032.
Si le contraste écran faiblit fortement même après l’avoir réglé au plus fort, nous vous conseillons de
changer la pile sans tarder.
1. Dévissez la vis qui maintient la trappe du compartiment de la pile au dos de l’appareil.
2. Retirez la trappe puis la pile usagée.
3. Insérez la pile neuve en respectant la polarité (côté + au dessus).
4. Appuyez sur la touche On/Off pour mettre en marche l’appareil.
Les piles non rechargeables ne doivent pas être rechargées. Retirer les accumulateurs du jeu avant
de les recharger. Ne charger les accumulateurs que sous la surveillance d’un adulte. Ne pas mélanger
différents types de piles ou accumulateurs, ou des piles et accumulateurs neufs et usagés. Les piles et
accumulateurs doivent être mis en place en respectant la polarité. Les piles et accumulateurs usagés
doivent être enlevés du jouet. Les bornes d’une pile ou d’un accumulateur ne doivent pas être mises en
court-circuit. Ne pas jeter les piles au feu.
PRECAUTIONS D’EMPLOI
Ne pas exposer l’appareil au soleil direct, à des températures extrêmes, à l’humidité et à la poussière. Ne
pas laisser tomber l’appareil. Ne pas utiliser de détergent, de produit nettoyant ou de solvant pour nettoyer
l’appareil. Essuyez simplement l’appareil avec un chiffon doux, sec et propre. Ne pas tordre l’appareil. Ne
pas tenter d’ouvrir le boîtier.
AVERTISSEMENT: Si l’appareil ne démarre pas ou subit des décharges électrostatiques, vous pouvez le
réinitialiser à l’aide de la touche reset ou en enlevant puis en réinstallant la pile.

INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing this Lexibook NTL250i1 French / English Electronic Translator. This product
has been designed to help you to translate from French to English and vice versa. There are 10,000
words available in each language and 500 conversational PHRASE, which have been grouped into 10
different categories for easy access and use.
Under normal use the NTL250i1 is designed to give many years of service. Please follow these
instructions carefully to ensure your product operates correctly.

• When in translator mode, the current language is indicated at the left of the display, EN means English
and FR means French.
• There are four arrow symbols on the right of the display. These symbols will ash to indicate when you
can use the arrow keys to scroll up, down, left and right.
GETTING STARTED
Removing the battery protection tab
Before you start using the unit, carefully remove the battery tab located at the rear of the unit. The unit should
switch on when you remove this tab. You can also press to switch the unit on, after the tab has been
removed.
Note: In the unlikely event that your unit does not switch on, you may need to reset it using the following
procedure.
1. Turn the unit over and locate the small RESET hole on the back of the product.
2. Insert a small, thin, blunt instrument, such as a paperclip, into the hole, press gently and then release.
Your unit should now have reset and the display will show the prompt Enter a word , as the unit
automatically returns to Translator mode.
Switching the unit on
Press to switch the unit on. Press again to switch the unit off.
The LEXIBOOK screen will be displayed briey, then the ‘language combination & direction’ screen
English > FRANCAIS is displayed and then the word-entry screen Enter a word .
Contrast Control
The LCD contrast can be adjusted whenever the Enter a word screen is shown (you can press
CLEAR to go the Enter a word screen).
• Press to decrease contrast or to increase contrast.
• Each time is pressed, Contrast - is displayed and each time is pressed Contrast + is
displayed.
• When the key is released, Enter a word is displayed again.

Display language
The Display language is the language in which the screen messages are displayed. When you rst use
the unit, you may need to change this:
• Press MENU to view the DISPLAY LANGUAGE option.
• Press ENTER to conrm.
• The current display language is shown, e.g. ENGLISH .
• Press or to change to Francais . Press ENTER to conrm. The unit will then revert to the
mode it was in prior to the MENU key being pressed.
On-Screen Help
If you require help at any time, press HELP . The unit will display a list of the following help topics:
1. SOURCE language
2. TARGET language
3. Translation modes
4. Word translation
5. Phrase translation
6. Accents
7. User language
8. Euro conversion
9. Calculator
10. Clock
11. Hangman game

13. Screen contrast
• Press to scroll through the list of topics until you see the desired topic.
• Press ENTER to conrm. The help message will automatically scroll across the screen.
• To pause the scrolling, press SPACE . To continue scrolling, press SPACE again.
• To return to the list of help topics, press ESCAPE .
• To return to the screen you were in before you pressed HELP , press ESCAPE .
• When the message has nished scrolling, the display will automatically return to the screen displayed
before you pressed HELP .
Function modes
The NTL250i1 has several modes. To reach the desired mode:
• Press TRANSLATOR for translation of words.
• Press PHRASE for translation of phrases.
• Press GAME for Games.
• Press HELP for Help.
• Press MENU to view the menu of other functions: Display Language, Currency, Calculator and Clock.
Auto Power Off
If you forget to switch off the unit, it will switch off automatically after 2 minutes to save the battery life.
Press to resume operation.

TRANSLATING WORDS
General Search
1. Press TRANSLATOR to start the mode for translating words.
2. The ‘language combination & direction’ screen e.g. English > French is shown and then
Enter a word appears on the screen.
3. Type a word you want to translate using the alphabet keys, e.g. house, House.
4. Press TARGET or ENTER to see the translation, e.g.Maison N.
Note: This translator has a special feature, designed to provide you with alternative translations of
words which may have different meanings, in the target language, or have similar meanings. For
example the word “full” in English can have the corresponding translations of “plein” or “rassasié” in
French. Both these translations are correct but have subtle different uses. To fully utilise this feature
always use the key to look for other translations of words after you have conrmed the home
language entry with the key.
5. To return to the word which you entered you can press SOURCE or ESCAPE .
6. If the word is not contained in the database, the display will advise you, then show the nearest
alphabetical entry in the database, and then shows the translation.
7. If this is not the desired word, you can press or to search for the previous / next alphabetical
word. The display rstly shows the previous / next Source language word and then shows the
translation.
8. To look up another word you can either start typing the new word directly or you can clear the display
rst by pressing CLEAR .
Correcting the typed word
1. Press SOURCE or ESCAPE to return to the word which you entered.
2. You can then edit the word using the and keys to move the cursor to the desired position where
you wish to insert or delete letters, (use BACKSPACE to delete the character to the left of the
cursor).
Changing the source language
1. You may wish to change the language (SOURCE language) you are translating from.
2. Firstly make sure the Enter a word screen is displayed (press BACKSPACE ).
3. Press SOURCE twice. The display will show French and then Enter a word .
4. Repeat to change the source language back to English.
Typing capital letters or accented characters
1. To type a capital letter, press and hold SHIFT and press the desired letter key once.
For example, SHIFT + types an A .
2. To type an accented character, press and hold SHIFT and press the desired letter key repeatedly
until the desired accented character is displayed, then release the key.
( e.g. SHIFT + + types an ).
Parts of Speech
1. The Part of Speech is shown to the right. In this example, N = noun.
Please refer to appendix 1 for complete list of Parts of Speech. If the word is long, you will need to scroll
right to see the Part of Speech indicator, or press SHIFT + to go directly to the end.
Sequential Search
1. Once you have translated a word, you can use the and keys to search for preceding or
following words in alphabetical order. The display rstly shows the previous / next Source language
word and then shows the translation.
2. When using sequential search, you may nd that some words are repeated. This means that the
source word has different meanings which accordingly have different translations.
3. Pressing whilst viewing the rst alphabetical word will display Top of list.
4. Similarly, pressing whilst viewing the last alphabetical word will display Bottom of list.

The NTL250i1 includes conversational phrases grouped into the following categories:

Searching by category
1. Press PHRASE to select the PHRASE mode.
2. The screen briey shows the ‘language combination & direction’ screen e.g. English > French and
then displays the rst option: Category .
3. Press ENTER to conrm. The rst category Business is displayed.
4. Press to view the next category. When the desired category is displayed, press ENTER to
conrm. The rst phrase of the category will be shown.
5. Press to see the next phrase in the list. Press to see the previous phrase in the list.
6. When the desired phrase is displayed, press ENTER to view the translation.
7. A symbol at the end of the line indicates you must scroll to see the rest of the phrase. Press to
scroll to the right. Press to scroll back to the left.
8. To return to the rst phrase (in the Source language) in the category, press ESCAPE repeatedly.
9. To return to the category listing, press CLEAR .
After nishing using the PHRASE mode, press TRANSLATOR to return to Translator mode.
Searching by word
The NTL250i1 enables you to search for phrases that contain a particular word:
1. To return to the PHRASE mode main menu, press the PHRASE key.
2. The Category option is displayed. Press to show the Word Search option.
3. Press ENTER to conrm. The display asks you to ENTER A WORD.
4. Type a word and press ENTER . The unit will search for any phrases (in the current source
language) which contain the typed word.
5. A ashing down arrow will indicate if there is more than one phrase that contains the typed word.
Press to view the other phrases.
6. When the desired phrase is displayed, press ENTER to view the translation.
7. If the word typed is not contained in any phrase, the display will advise you None found and then show
the typed word. You can either edit the word or type a new word and press ENTER to search
again.
After nishing using the PHRASE mode, press TRANSLATOR to return to Translator mode.
Finding phrases that contain the translated word
Once you have translated a word you can press PHRASE to search for any phrases (in the current
source language) which contain the typed word. The unit will search for any phrases (in the current
source language) which contain the typed word. A ashing down arrow will indicate if there is more than
one phrase that contains the typed word. Press to view the other phrases. When the desired phrase
is displayed, press ENTER to view the translation.

GAMES
The NTL250i1 includes two fun and educational word games, Hangman and Jumble, described below.
These games can be played in either English or French.
Hangman
1. Press GAME to start the Game mode.
2. The Hangman option is displayed. Press ENTER to conrm.
3. The display prompts you to select a language ENGLISH ?. The current user-language is the one shown
by default.
4. Press ENTER to conrm this language or press SOURCE to change the language.
5. The display prompts you to select a word length Word length ? then shows <03> characters .
6. Press repeatedly to increase the word length (max.13) and to decrease the word length
(min. 3). Press ENTER to conrm.
7. The display shows question marks representing the letters of the word you must guess,
e.g. ????????? 9 .
8. The number at the right indicates the number of chances to guess the word.
9. You can get a clue at any time by pressing to view the translation of the hidden word. Press to
return to the game screen.
10. For assistance, you can press ENTER to reveal a letter; however, this will use one of your lives.
11. Press a letter key to make your guess. When you key in a correct letter, it will replace the question
mark in the appropriate position.
12. If you type a letter that is not in the word, the screen will tell you There is no X and reduce your lives
by one.
13. If you type a correct or wrong letter that you have already tried, the screen will also tell you
X already used (but it will not remove a life).
14. If you guess all the letters before losing all your lives, you have won. The display will show You win ! .
15. If your lives reach zero, you have lost the game. The display will show Sorry, you lost and the
correct word will be revealed.
16. If you want to give-up the game and reveal the word, press SPACE .
17. At the end of the game when the correct answer is displayed, you may also press to view the
translation of the word.
18. Press ENTER to start a new game or ESCAPE or GAME to view the games menu.
19. Press SOURCE to change the source language if desired. Press ENTER to conrm.
After you have nished using the Game mode, press TRANSLATOR to return to word Translation
mode.
Jumble
1. Press GAME to start the Game mode. The rst menu option Hangman is displayed.
2. Press to view the next option JUMBLE.
3. Press ENTER to conrm.
4. The display prompts you to select a language English ? . The current user-language is the one shown
by default.
5. Press English ? to conrm this language or press SOURCE to change the language.
6. The display prompts you to select a word length Word length ? then shows <03> Charecters .
7. Press repeatedly to increase the word length (max.13) and to decrease the word length
(min. 3). Press ENTER to conrm.
8. The display shows the jumbled letters of the word you must nd, e.g. bedlumj 9 .
9. The number at the right indicates the number of chances to guess the word.
10. Type the word that you think the jumbled letters come from. Press ENTER to see if you are
correct. Whilst typing, you can view the jumbled word by pressing . Press to continue.
11. If you are wrong, you lose a life and are asked to Try again .
