Introduction
The Solera®Slide Topper with Access Plates is a
high-quality, cost-effective way to help keep slide-outs
free of dirt, leaves and debris. The Solera®Slide Topper is
permanently attached to the slide-out and retracts/extends
with the room.
The Solera Slide Topper Access Plates are being utilized
by specific OEMs for prepping the unit to make installing
the Solera Slide Topper quicker and easier.
The Solera®Slide Topper with Access Plates comes
complete with mounting hardware. If the unit came with a
pre-installed Solera®Slide Topper Access Plate (Fig.1A),
the access plates, part number 768004 (black) or 768005
(white) will not be needed for this installation.

Installation
All screws supporting the awning assembly MUST have a
backer within the structure of the wall of the unit. Refer to
unit manufacturer for proper location.
NOTE: The slide-out of the unit that the Solera Slide
Topper is being installed on should not be opened
more than 8”.
Installing the Awning Rail
Awning rail included.
NOTE: Check the roof line to see if there is an awning rail
pre-installed. If there is not, proceed to step one
of this section. If there is, proceed to the next section
of this manual.
1. Position the awning rail along the line where the roof and
wall meet or a minimum of 3” to 6” maximum, above the
upper edge of the slide room the Solera®Slide Topper will
cover. The awning rail must be level and parallel with the
top of slide room box of the unit.
Prior to Installation
The unit may be equipped with a removable, cosmetic
access plate cover (Fig.3A) on the access plate (Fig.3B).
This cover snaps on and off and must be removed prior
to installation of the access bracket.

NOTE: If mounting the Solera Slide Topper access plate
on the T-molding, see “Installing Solera Slide Topper
Access Plate” section (Fig.6), the awning rail must be a
minimum of 4 ½” above the upper edge of the slide room
the awning will cover.
2. After determining the awning rail’s proper location, mark
its position with a non-permanent method of marking.
3. Apply sealant to the back of the awning rail (Fig.4A).
4. Align the awning rail on the wall and secure with
#8 - 18 x 1” screws, using all fastener holes.

Assemble the Extension Rod and Cap
1. Slide the extension rod (Fig.4A) into the spring head
assembly torsion arm (Fig.4B), aligning the fastener
locations (Fig.4).
2. Slide the spring head assembly torsion arm end cap
(Fig.4C) into the extension rod (Fig.4A), aligning all three
fastener locations (Fig.4). Fasten using the provided
 screw (Fig.5).
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the opposite end.

Installing the Solera Slide Topper Access Plate
NOTE: If the access plates are already pre-installed,
part number 768004 (black) or 768005 (white) will not be
needed for this installation. Proceed to Installing the Solera
Slide Topper Access Bracket section.
NOTE: The access plate (Fig. 7) can be mounted with the
flat edge (Fig. 7A) at the top or bottom, depending on which
option allows for a more square installation on the unit.

1. Install the access plate below the T-molding (Fig.8) or on
the T-molding (Fig.9).
A. If installing below the T-molding, start on one side of
the front of the slide-out by placing one of the two access
brackets (Fig.8A) against the bottom of the T-molding at
the top corner of the slide-out (Fig.8B) as close to the
corner as possible. Keep the mounting bracket parallel
with the bottom edge of the T-molding.

FALLING SLIDE TOPPER ACCESS BRACKETS
CAN CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY, PRODUCT AND/
OR PROPERTY DAMAGE. SLIDE TOPPER ACCESS
BRACKETS ARE INSTALLED LOOSE ON THE ACCESS
PLATE UNTIL FINAL INSTALLATION. MAKE SURE
ACCESS BRACKETS ARE SECURE ENOUGH TO
PREVENT FALLING FROM THE ACCESS PLATE.
Installing the Solera Slide Topper Access Bracket
NOTE: The Solera Slide Topper Access Bracket can be
installed in two different positions. The lower position (Fig.11A),
first extrusion from the top of the access bracket, is used
for regular clearance. The higher position (Fig.12A), second
extrusion from the top of the access bracket, is used if the
slide topper requires extra clearance.
NOTE: If installing the slide topper access plate on the
T-molding, see “Installing Solera Slide Topper Access Plate”
section (Fig.9), use the first extrusion from the top of the access
bracket method (Fig.11A).
1. Slide an access bracket onto an access plate at the
appropriate position (Fig.11 or Fig.12) at both ends of the
slide room.

NOTE: There might be a slight gap between the T-molding
side and the side of the mounting bracket
(Fig.8C) if the corner does not have a 90 degree angle.
B. If installing on the T-molding, start on one side of
the front of the slide-out by placing one of the two
access brackets (Fig.9A) at the very bottom corner of the
T-molding, (Fig.9B) as close to the outside of the T-molding
as possible without going over the corner mold (Fig.9C).
NOTE: Make sure the screws do not go over the roof line.
2. Fasten the mounting bracket to the slide-out exterior wall

6. Feed one of the extension rods (Fig.15A) into an access
bracket (Fig.15B). By pulling the extension rod all the way
into the access bracket, the opposite end extension rod
can now slide into the access bracket at the opposite end.
NOTE: If needed, the access brackets can slide left
or right to assist in getting both extension rods into the
access brackets.

UNROLLING THE FABRIC MORE THAN ONE TURN
WILL CAUSE THE SLIDE TOPPER TO LOSE TENSION
AND CREATE SLACK WHEN CLOSING THE SLIDE
ROOM. MAKE SURE TO LEAVE THE SLIDE ROOM
CLOSED OR NOT TO EXTEND MORE THAN 6”.
Installing the Solera Slide Topper Assembly
1. To prepare for fabric installation, use a screwdriver
to spread open either end of the awning rail on the
installation end (Fig.13A).
2. To protect the fabric from damage during installation,

3. Spray the inside of the awning rail channel with silicone
lubricant (Fig.13B).
4. Remove packaging from the roll tube and unroll a small
portion of fabric, no more than one turn.
5. Using at least two people, feed the polycord (Fig.14A) on
the fabric through the awning rail channel (Fig.14B).

ROLL TUBE SPRINGS ARE UNDER TENSION.

TENSION TO AVOID PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR
PRODUCT DAMAGE.
Securing the Fabric
1. Extend and retract the room several times to ensure that
the fabric is square on the roll tube.
2. Secure the fabric (Fig.19A) in the awning rail (Fig.19B) no
more than 1" inside the edge of the fabric on both ends
using a #6 x ½" hex head screw (Fig.19C). Install the screw
(Fig.19C) down through the awning rail (Fig.19B) into the
fabric (Fig.19A) and the polycord (Fig.19D).

9. Center the Solera®Slide Topper over the slide room
using a tape measure.
10. Fasten the extension rods (Fig.18A) to the access
brackets (Fig.18B) by installing two of the provided
#10 - 16 x ¾” self-drilling hex washer head screws (Fig.18C).

11. Firmly hold the roll tube, slightly turn back the roll-tube
to relieve a little tension, then remove the spring clip to
completely relieve the spring tension. Carefully release the
roll tube and allow the roll tube to rest into position.

7. Position the extension rod so that the roll tube will not
be touching the slide room.
NOTE: Make sure the access bracket (Fig.12) is flush
with the access plate, attached above or below the
T-molding of the slide-out.
8. Install the two provided ¼” - 20 x ½” set screws in the
top two holes of the access bracket (Fig.16) if using the
lower position (Fig.11). Install two set screws in the lower
two holes of the access bracket (Fig.17) if using the higher
position (Fig.12).

Maintenance
Fabric Care
If the awning is retracted while wet, extend the awning
and let it dry as soon as conditions allow before again
retracting. This will help prevent the formation of mildew
and add to the life of the awning.
NOTE: Mildew does not form on the fabric itself, but on the
accumulated dust, dirt and grime. Periodically clean vinyl
or woven acrylic fabric using a mixture of ¼cup of dish
soap and five gallons of warm water.



5. Allow to dry before retracting.

What’s Happening? What Should Be Done?
Rub marks appear on the fabric. Check that there is no debris in the track where fabric goes into the case.
Fabric sags or is loose. Check tension on springs.
Make sure the end caps are properly secured.
Fabric will not roll up. Check tension on springs.
Make sure there are no debris or foreign objects in the fabric opening or case.
Fabric will not unroll. Make sure the pins that lock the tension for install have been removed from
both ends of the end caps.
Fabric appears to roll up
at an angle.
Make sure the rail that is mounted to the unit is square with the main housing
of the slide topper.
Make sure fabric is cut square.
