INSTALLATION AND SETUP
1Physical Installation
Install the XVS-F5 in a stable/safe place to avoid any possible
damage. Avoid placement in direct sunlight and do not place
heavy articles on the switch.
Mounting
The XVS-F5 may be placed horizontally on a solid, level
platform or wall-mounted using the keyhole mounts in the
rear panel. The switch can also be attached to the rear of
a display or the inside of a rack with double-sided tape or
hook-and-loop.

2Connecting Power
Connect the included AC power adapter to a power outlet
near the XVS-F5, then connect the power adapter plug to
the switch power connector.

cCAUTION: Use only the included power supply. If a
dierent power supply is used, it could
damage the XVS-F5.

Connecting Devices
Use standard Ethernet CAT5, CAT5e or CAT6 cable to
connect the XVS-F5 to a device as described below.
The XVS-F5 will automatically adjust to the characteristics
(speed/duplex) of the device to which it is connected.
Connecting the XVS-F5 to Devices
When a device is properly connected, the Link/Activity
LED for the port lights up green. Refer to the section on
LED Indicators for definitions and troubleshooting.

4Connecting to a Router or Other Switch
Use an Ethernet cable to connect the XVS-F5 to a router or
other switch. The XVS-F5 automatically adjusts to the speed
and duplex of the connected switch or router, so uplink cables
are not necessary.
5LED Indicators
The XVS-F5 features five Link/Activity LEDs and one power LED.
These LED indicators show the operating status of the XVS-F5
and each switch connection.

The following chart shows the LED indicators of the XVS-F5
along with an explanation of the indicator’s properties:
LED Color Status Description
Power Green ON This indicator lights
up when the XVS-F5 is
powered
— OFF If this indicator is not
lit, check the DC power
supply to ensure proper
connection to the outlet
and the XVS-F5.
1-5 Green ON Indicates the XVS-F5 is
connected.
Blinking Indicates the XVS-F5 is
transmitting/receiving
data packets.
— OFF Indicates the port is not
connected to a device.
