Not following the instructions of the owner's manual may result in personal injury or damage to the
product. Please, follow the instruction for safe and comfortable use. Please, remember to disconnect the red wire
to protect batteries during transportation. Always remember to connect the red wire before using the Hero.

1. INTRODUCTION
Your Hero wheelchair combines the most advanced state-of-the-art components with modern, attractive styling.
We are sure that the design features and trouble-free operation will add convenience to your daily living and
ensure complete satisfaction.
Your safety is most important to us. Please read and follow all the instructions outlined in this manual before
you attempt to operate your wheelchair for the first time. These instructions were produced for your benefit.
Your understanding of these instructions is essential for safe operation of your new Hero wheelchair.
Manufacturer is not liable for damage to property or personal injury arising out of the unsafe use of wheelchair.
Manufacturer is also not liable for any property damage or personal injury arising out of the failure of any person
and/or user to follow the instructions and recommendations set forth in this manual or any other instructions or
recommendations contained in other Hero related literature issued by manufacturer.
This manual presents the newest current technology standards and product information. As we constantly
improve technology and our products, you may find some differences between explanations and illustrations
presented in this manual and product you have purchased. However, it does not affect regular use of your
wheelchair. If you have any questions which you can’t answer while using the wheelchair (safely, or while you
think according to the instruction, and/or when the recommendation of the manual cannot be carried out safely)
please, contact your local dealer.
Please, check and read the warranty card carefully. Please, make sure that it has been properly filled in and
stamped. Keep it in case you will have to use it in the future. The warranty card is an integral part of the product
you purchased, if you sell your wheelchair, do not forget to pass it (together with user’s manual) to the next
owner. Always have the user’s manual when you use your wheelchair in case of any problems. If you are not able
to solve the problem or if you are not sure if you can use the wheelchair safely, please, consult your dealer.

Do not modify your wheelchair in any way without manufacturer’s authorization. Unauthorized
modifications may result in personal injury and/or damage to the product.
2. Product characteristics
Thanks to standing and positioning option, Hero wheelchair:
Prevents joint contracture of lower limbs;
Improves bowel & bladder’s functions;
Prevents skin abrasions and bedsores arising from long sitting position;
Prevents osteoporosis –improves calcification, especially of lower limbs;
Improves self-confidence and reduces the fear of assuming standing position;
provides body weight support training, prepares the patient to assume standing position by himself;
improves cardiopulmonary functions;
allows to perform every-day activities in standing position which increase sense of personal
independence;
Increase adaptation ability.

DO NOT USE THE WHEELCHAIR FOR THE FIRST TIME WITHOUT COMPLETELTY READING THE USER’S
MANUAL.
1. When using the wheelchair for the first time, assistance of other person is necessary.
2. As you begin using your wheelchair during daily activities, you will probably encounter situations in which
you will need some practice. In such situations, take your time and you will soon be in full and confident
control as you manoeuvre through doorways, on and off elevators, up and down ramps, and over
moderate terrain.
3. Transferring onto and off your wheelchair requires good sense of balance. If you start learning how to get
on/off the wheelchair, assistance and help of other person is necessary.
4. If you need to use the positioning belts, make sure they have been property fastened and adjusted to
ensure maximum safety.
5. Please, remember that Hero should not be used on public street and road –it can be difficult for traffic to
see you when you are seated on your wheelchair.
6. Never driver down the stairs or escalators.
7. Be careful while driving over doorsteps or other obstacles.
8. Do not bend, lean or reach for objects while sitting on the wheelchair –the wheelchair may tip which can
cause product damage and personal injury.
9. Always protect batteries from freezing. Never charge frozen batteries –it may lead to battery damage and
personal injury.
10. If you take prescribed or over-the-counter medication or if you have certain physical limitations, please,
consult your physician. Some medications and limitations may impair your ability to operate your
wheelchair safely.
11. Never operate your scooter while you are under influence of alcohol, as this may impair your ability to
drive safely.
12. Do not put your overall body weight to the footrests –the wheelchair may tip and cause personal injury.
13. Hero wheelchair is designed for one person only, you must not carry any passengers!
3. SAFETY
INDICATIONS
Hero Manual standing wheelchair can be used in patients with congenital or acquired paralysis of the lower
limbs, muscular dystrophy, stroke and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It can be used also for the prevention of
pressure ulcers.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Contraindications to a sitting position and upright. Patients with mental disorders should not remain in the
standing wheelchair unattended. During lifting phase observe the reactions of the patient. If you notice any
adverse reactions, eg. turn pale, sweating, fainting should immediately stop verticalization and return to the
starting position.

INCLEMENT WEATHER PRECAUTIONS
Do not operate your wheelchair when the temperature falls below 0:C , in icy or slippery conditions or
on salted surfaces (i.e., walks or roads). Such use may result in an accident, personal injury, or
adversely affect the performance and safety of your scooter.
Do not operate or store your wheelchair in a place where it may be exposed to inclement weather
condition such as rain, snow, mist, and below freezing temperatures. Using the wheelchair in such
conditions can damage the electronics and potentially result in loss of control. Before using your
wheelchair, make sure that the water has dried up.
STAIRS
Hero wheelchair is not designed to drive up or down stairs or escalators. If you need to move the
Hero between the floors using a stairway, the user must not be seated in the wheelchair.
Never lift Hero by any removable parts as it may cause personal injury and damage to the
wheelchair.
Please, follow the instruction below if you need to transport the wheelchair between the floors and the elevator
is not available.
1. The user needs to get off the wheelchair.
2. Lift the wheelchair (attention! Do not hold its removable parts!)- remember to keep your back straight
and to bend your knees.
3. Transfer the Hero up/down the stairs.
4. Put the wheelchair only on the flat surface.
RAMPS , OBSTACLES
Approach the ramp/obstacle slowly.
Do not drive up/down the incline of angle more than 10 º.
Avoid driving up/down long inclines.
Do not leave your wheelchair on any incline –no matter whether you seat or stand next to it.
DRIVING OUTDOOR
Baby Hero and Hero wheelchairs have been designed to provide you with maximum comfort of use and safety
when driving in standard conditions –on flat and dry surface.
Avoid high grass –it may become tangled in the running gear.
Avoid loosely packed gravel and stand.
If you feel unsure about a driving surface, avoid that surface.

SAFETY BELTS
Always remember to fasten the thigh and thoracic safety belt immediately after taking a seat in the
wheelchair.

6. VSI CONTROLLER
1. OFF/ON LED light.
2. Press and hold the button to assume standing position.
3. Press and hold the button to return to sitting position.
4. Battery condition meter .
The battery condition meter indicates the battery status. There are
three LED lights:
-Green means fully charged batteries
-Red means that batteries are charged only in 30 % and that you
need to charge them IMMEDIATELY
Red LED light also flashes when the batteries are being charged.
7. HEADREST ADJUSTMENT
1. In order to adjust the headrest turn the rear button in anticlockwise
direction. Choose desired height and turn the rear button in clockwise
direction.
2. In order to adjust vertical inclination of headrest, release the screw
(see the picture) using hexagon spanner. Choose the desired angle and
fasten the screw tightly.
3. Release the butterfly screw of the headrest –choose the desired angle ad fasten the butterfly screw.

8. COMFORT ADJUSTMENT
BABY HERO
KNEE PROTECTORS
Unlock the blockade according to the picture –move the footrest outside.
If you unlock the blockades on both sides, you will be able to remove the
knee protectors.
Adjust length of heel loop.
In order to adjust height and depth of knee protectors, release two screws
placed on both sides of the wheelchair.

FOOTREST ADJUSTMENT
Unfasten the heel loop.
Lift the footrests.
Unlock the footrests according to the picture.
Move the footrests outside.
Lift and remove the footrests.
In order to adjust footrest height, release the screws located at the back of the
footrests.
There can be lumbar cushion under the backrest (optional).

ARMRESTS AND GUARD RAIL
There are screws and additional holes which allow you to
adjust armrests height. Release the armrests, choose desired
height and fasten the screws tightly.
In order to lift the armrests, release the screws, choose desired angle
and fasten the screws. Always remember to choose the same height for
both armrests.
Additional guard rail can be installed.
In order to remove the guard rail, push the switch placed on the rear
part of the armrest and remove the guard rail.
In order to facilitate getting on and off the wheelchair, the guard rail can
be moved aside.

BACKREST
In order to remove the backrest, release the screws placed at the back of the backrest and pull up the backrest.
WHEELS
In order to block the wheels, push the hand brake forward.
Pull up the hand brake to release the wheels.
In order to disassemble/assemble the wheels, push the wheel cover and pull the wheel.

HERO
KNEE PROTECTORS
Unlock the blockade according to the picture –move the footrest outside.
If you unlock the blockades on both sides, you will be able to remove the knee
protectors.
Adjust length of heel loop.
In order to adjust footrest height, release the screws located at the back of the
footrests.

FOOTRESTS
Adjust the heel loop. The footrests may be lifted.
In order to move the footrests outside, unlock them according to the picture.
After removing the footrests you can adjust their length –release the screw placed at the back of the footrest
frame. Always remember to choose the same length for both footrests.

WHEELS & BACKREST DISSASEMBLY
In order to disassemble the backrest, release two screws placed at the back of the backrest.
If you want to disassemble the wheels, push the wheel cover and pull the wheel.
9. BATTERY CHARGING
1. Place the wheelchair close to a standard electric al outlet.
2. Check if all the wires are connected properly.
3. The colour of LED light of battery condition meter will change from yellow to green when the batteries
are fully charged.
WARNING!
1. Do not expose the wheelchair and battery to high temperature and sources of fire, especially while
charging the batteries. Not following this rule may lead to ignition and explosion.
2. Always charge the batteries in a well ventilated place.
3. Never touch the charger , batteries with wet hands or other objects. Keep the charger, wires and batteries
away from water, rain or damp conditions. Not following the above rules may cause electric shock.
4. Always charge the batteries in min 0: and max 40: temperature. Not following this rule may lead to
battery damage.
5. Do not interrupt charging till the battery condition meter lights green.
6. If the battery condition meter does not light, disconnect the wires for 10 min and try to connect them
again. If it does not help, consult the dealer.
7. If you charge the batteries for more than 12 hours but the battery condition meter is still yellow, please,
contact the dealer.

PROBLEM SOLVING
1. No voltage indication when power is on. Check the wires connection.
2. Open the black cover placed at the back of the frame.
3. Disconnect the plug and connect them to the socket to start charging.
4. The LED light of control panel will flash during charging. The green
colour indicates that charging has been completed and the batteries are
charged, orange colour- batteries are charged in 50 %, red colour –
batteries are charged in 30 %.
10. BATTERIES
1. The wheelchair is equipped with deep-cycle batteries which are sealed and maintenance free.
2. Please, remember that some situations require more energy (e.g. going up the incline, overloading,
difficult weather conditions).
3. In order to protect the batteries and make them work longer, please, follow the rules below:
Do not allow the batteries to discharge completely. Always charge the batteries after daily use.
While charging the batteries for the first time, disconnect the plug after 40 hours, when the
batteries are fully charged.
If you do not use the wheelchair regularly, charge the batteries every three days.
WARNING
1. Never remove the caps from sealed batteries.
2. The battery acid may cause blindness or burns. If the battery acid contact eyes, skin, clothes or any other
object which has contact with skin, rinse with water as soon as possible and consult your doctor.
3. Always use only Hero batteries –using other batteries may lead to wheelchair damage.
4. Always make sure that the wheelchair and batteries are properly protected.
5. Please, remember that the batteries will degenerate and the distance range will decrease after some
time. If you notice that your batteries are less efficient, you should replace them with new one.
6. Please, remember that for optimal effect, you should replace both batteries at the same time.

BATTERY WIRING LOOM
WARNING
1. Please, remember that incorrect connection may damage the batteries.
2. If the batteries were expose to low temperatures (if the battery is frozen), do not try to charge them!
3. Cold or frozen batteries should be kept for couple of days in room temperature in order to warm them up
and charge.
11.MAINTENANCE
If you follow the maintenance rules outlined in this section, you can help to ensure that your wheelchair will give
you years of trouble-free operation. If you have any doubt as to your wheelchair care or operation, contact the
local dealer.
ANNUAL MAINTENANCE
Annual maintenance will help you to check if the wheelchair is in good condition and if it works properly. It will
also help to prevent any possible complications which may arise from any malfunctions.
The annual maintenance should include:
1. Checking the tires.
2. Checking the batteries and all connections.
3. Checking if the VSI control panel works correctly.
4. Checking the frame.

5. Checking the upholstery.
ADDITIONAL ADVICE
1. Protect the VSI control panel against shocks and blows.
2. Do not expose the wheelchair to high/low temperatures and humidity.
3. Keep the VSI control panel clean.
4. Protect your wheelchair against contact with water.
5. Keep the frame and upholstery clean. Clean them with soft, dry cloth, never use any abrasive. Do not use any
detergents directly to VSI control panel, batteries or electrical parts.
6. Grease the wheels every three months.
7. Use only the batteries provided with the wheelchair. If you want to replace them, contact the dealer.
8. Charge the batteries regularly. Always make sure that the charger is properly pluged into the socket. Never
unplug the charger by pulling the wire.
9. Check all the wires. If you notice any damage, secure it immediately.
10. Store the wheelchair in a dry place, humidity may damage the frame and electronic al system.

the European Union. This symbol is valid in the European Union. If you wish to decommission this
appliance, please obtain the correct decommissioning information from your local authorities or from your retailer.
