Quick Start Guide
SETUP YOUR ETHOS LEAN
Setting up your Milestone ETHOS LEAN is sim-
ple. Just follow the following instructions. Once
completed the setup, take some time to explore
the features of your system. Please refer to User
Manual MA221 for complete guidelines of your
ETHOS LEAN.
2 - Connect the power cord to the back side of
the unit.
3 - Connect the exhaust tube to the unit and pla-
ce the opposite side into the fume-hood (or any
connection to it).
1 - Plug the terminal cable in the “TERMINAL”
port on the back side of the unit and then the
other side in the “DEVICE” port of the terminal.
4 - Place the USB pen drive into the terminal.

START USING YOUR ETHOS LEAN
Milestone’s ETHOS LEAN can be used both for acid digestion and solvent extraction applications. In the
following instructions we will quickly show the way to use a Milestone closed vessel digestion system. The
description of your configuration is fully reported into the ETHOS LEAN user manual
NOTE
Milestone suggests to entirely read the User Manual before running the unit.
NOTE
The below information can be used as guidelines for the customer Standard Operating
Procedure (SOP).

3 - Put the vessels under a fume hood for adding the
reagents. During this operation, keep safety shields and
springs in a safe place from droplets or acid fumes.
5 - Place the vessels into the rotor body. 6 - Introduce the rotor into the microwave cavity
and close the microwave door.
4 - Place the TFM cap on the vessel and screw the
TFM threaded cover.
STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE
1 - Turn the main switch of the ETHOS LEAN on.
The ETHOS LEAN is ready to work and it shows
the last method used.
2 - Remove the PTFE vessels from the rotor
body and place them on an analytical balance
for sample weighing.

HOW TO SET THE SOFTWARE
1 - The main page will be visualized on the scre-
en. Then press Library icon.
2 - Choose a method from the “Recent” folder (last
method used or modified by the administrator) or
Digestion folder (complete Milestone library).
4 - Select the Method (i.e. Baby Food method)
suitable for the digestion of your samples and
press √ icon.
3 - Only the administrator has access to the
Milestone library (login with the administrator
password).
6 - Enter the number of vessels you have loa-
ded into the microwave cavity. Press Start.

3 - Slowly open the vessels by hand, rinse the
internal vessel with some deionized water and
transfer the solutions in a volumetric flask.
OPEN VESSELS AFTER THE DIGESTION RUN
1 - After the digestion program, wait for the ves-
sels to cool down to 80° C.
2 - Remove the rotor from microwave cavity and
place it under a fumehood. Remove the vessels
from the rotor body.
NOTE
More information can be found into the ETHOS LEAN User Manual.
CAUTION
After the end of program, you have to wait to reach 80°C temperature (internal temperature)
before to open the microwave door, remove the rotor and open the vessels.
Slowly unscrew the segments to allow the residual pressure to be gently released from the
vessels.
