Quick Start Guide
SETUP YOUR ETHOS UP
Setting up your Milestone ETHOS UP is sim-
ple. Just follow the following instructions. Once
completed the setup, take some time to explore
the features of your system. Please refer to User
Manual MA182 for complete guidelines of your
ETHOS UP.
2 - Connect the power cord to the back side of
the unit.
3 - Connect the exhaust tube to the unit and pla-
ce the opposite side into the fume-hood (or any
connection to it).
1 - Plug the terminal cable in the “TERMINAL”
port on the back side of the unit and then the
other side in the “DEVICE” port of the terminal.
4 - Place the USB pen drive into the terminal.

5 - Switch “ON” the unit.
Milestone ETHOS UP can be used with a wide range of rotors, inserts and accessories. In the following
instructions we will quickly show the way to use a Milestone closed vessel digestion system. The descrip-
tion of your configuration is fully reported into the ETHOS UP user manual.
NOTE
Milestone suggests to entirely read the User Manual before running the unit.

3 - Add reagents in accordance with the Milestone Guide-
lines (suggested volume=10ml). Keep the safety shields
and springs in a safe place from droplets or acid fumes.
5 -Place the segment in the supplied worksta-
tion and use the torque wrench to tighten the
segment screw until the “click” sound of the key.
6 - Place the segment into the rotor plate and
close the door of the microwave cavity
4 - Introduce the PTFE vessel into the safety shield,
place the cover and the safety spring and place it into
the segment.

1 - Remove the vessel from the rotor. 2 - Place the vessel on an analytical balance and
weigh the sample in accordance with the Mile-
stone guidelines (included in your USB key).

3 - Put the adapter on vessels and close the cover with its cap.
4 - Place the closed vessels in the rotor.
START USING YOUR MAXI-44 eT or MAXI-24 HP Rotor
1 - Place the vessels on an analytical balance
and weight the sample in accordance with the
Milestone guidelines.
2 - Add the reagents in accordance with the Mi-
lestone guidelines (min. volume 5 mL).

HOW TO SET THE SOFTWARE
1 - The main page will be visualized on the scre-
en. Then press Library icon.
2 - Only the administrator has access to the Mi-
lestone library, so login with the administrator
password.
4 - Select your Method in accordance with
your rotor configuration (SK-15, MAXI-44,
MAXI-24 HP rotors) and press √ icon.
5 - Enter the number of vessels you have loa-
ded into the microwave cavity.
3 - Access to the methods and select the mi-
crowave program suitable for the digestion of
you samples
6 - Close the door and press Start icon.

7 - After the digestion program ends, wait for the
vessels to cool down to 80 ° C. Remove the ves-
sels from the microwave cavity and place them
on the workstation under a fume hood
8 - Gently open the vessels, rinse the internal
vessel with some deionized water and transfer
the solutions in a volumetric flasks.
