2. ラックへの取り付け
デバイス増設ユニットのラックへの取り付け方法を以下に示します。
(1)ラックレールよりインナーレールを抜き取りネジＢ(M4ミリネジ)でインナーレールをデバイス増設ユニットへ取り付け
ます。 (図1)
(2)アウターレールのスライドブラケットを固定しているネジ８本をゆるめ、ラックの奥行き(前後の支柱間)にアウターレー
ルの長さをあわせ位置決めします。(図2) ※ラックの奥行きの長さが足りないときは、アウターレールの先端にある
ネジ２本を外してスライドブラケットをのばしてください。
(3) ラックレールの先端にあるフレームの先端が角穴のフレームに突き当たっている状態で、
レールのネジ穴(4個)が角穴から確実に見えることを確認しラックレールをネジＡ（2本、
前後で4本）とワッシャ2個（前後で4個）で固定します。（図3）
(4)スライドブラケットのゆるめたネジを締めて長さを固定します。
(5)もう一方のラックレールを同じ手順で取り付けます。

指定以外のケーブルを使用しない
本装置に添付されている電源コード以外のコードを使わないでください。電源コードに定格
以上の電流が流れると、火災の原因となるおそれがあります。
また、電源コードの破損による感電や火災を防止するために次のような行為をおこなわな
いでください。
●コード部分を引っ張らない。 ●電源コードをはさまない。
●電源コードを折り曲げない。 ●電源コードに薬品類をかけない。
●電源コードをにじらない。 ●電源コードにものを載せない。
●電源コードを束ねない。 ●電源コードを改造・加工・修復しない。
●電源コードをステープラ等で固定しない。
●損傷した電源コードを使わない。（損傷した電源コードはすぐに同じ規格の電源コード
と取り替えてください。交換に関しては、お買い求めの販売店または保守サービス会
社にご連絡ください。)

箱を開けてから本装置が使えるようになるまでの手順を説明しま
す。このスタートアップガイドにしたがって作業してください。
使用上のご注意
本製品を安全に正しくご使用になるために必要な情報が記載されています。
安全にかかわる表示について
本書にはどこが危険か、どのような危険に遭うのか、どうすれば危険を避けられるかなどについて説明されています。また、製品内で危険が想
定される箇所またはその付近には警告ラベルが貼り付けられています。
本書、および警告ラベルでは危険の程度を表す言葉として、「警告」と「注意」という用語を使用しています。それぞれの用語は次のような意味を

電源がONのまま取り付け・取り外しをしない
本体装置への取り付け・取り外しの際や、周辺機器との接続の際は必ず主電源に接続しているACコードをACコンセントから抜いてください。ACコードがACコ
ンセントに接続されたまま取り付け・取り外しや接続をすると感電をするおそれがあります。

本書は大切に保管してください。
危険に対する注意・表示は次の3種類の記号を使って表しています。それぞれの記号は次のような意味を持つものとして定義されています。
安全上のご注意
全般的な注意事項
人命に関わる業務や高度な信頼性を必要とする業務には使用しない
本製品は、医療機器・原子力設備や機器、航空宇宙機器・輸送設備や機器など、人命に関
わる設備や機器および高度な信頼性を必要とする設備や機器などへの組み込みやこれら
の機器の制御を目的とした使用は意図されておりません。これらの設備や機器、制御シス
テムなどに本製品を使用した結果、人身事故、財産被害などが生じても当社はいかなる責
任も負いかねます。
煙や異臭、異音がしたまま使用しない
万一、煙、異臭、異音などが生じた場合は、ただちに本体装置の電源をOFFにしてACコー
ドをAC コンセントから抜き、本製品のDCケーブルを抜いてください。その後、お買い求めの
販売店または保守サービス会社にご連絡ください。そのまま使用すると火災の原因となり
ます。
製品内に水や異物を入れない
製品内に水などの液体、ピンやクリップなどの異物を入れないでください。火災や感電、故
障の原因となります。もし入ってしまったときは、すぐに本体装置の電源をOFFにしてAC
コードをACコンセントから抜き、本製品のDCケーブルを抜いてください。分解しないで販売
店または保守サービス会社に連絡してください。
ラックの設置・取り扱いに関する注意事項
一人で搬送・設置をしない
ラックの搬送・設置は２人以上で行ってください。ラックが倒れてけがや周囲の破損の原因
となります。特に高さのあるラック(44Uラックなど)はスタビライザなどによって固定されてい
ないときは不安定な状態にあります。かならず
2人以上でラックを支えながら搬送・設置をしてください。
荷重が集中してしまうような設置はしない
ラック、および取り付けた装置の重量が一点に集中しないようスタビライザを取り付けるか、
複数台のラックを連結して荷重を分散してください。ラックが倒れてけがをするおそれがあり
ます。
一人で部品の取り付けをしない
ラック用のドアやトレーなどの部品は２人以上で取り付けてください。部品を落として破損さ
せるばかりでなく、けがをするおそれがあります。
針金や金属片を差し込まない
通気孔やカートリッジ挿入口から金属片や針金などの異物を差し込まないでください。感電
の危険があります。
ペットを近づけない
本製品にペットなどの生き物を近づけないでください。排泄物や体毛が製品内部に入って
火災や感電の原因となります。
ラックが不安定な状態で装置をラックから引き出さない
ラックから装置を引き出す際は、必ずラックを固定させた状態(スタビライザの設置や耐震工
事など)で引き出してください。
定格電源を越える配線をしない
やけどや火災、装置の破損を防止するためにラックに電源を供給する電源分岐回路の定
格負荷を越えないようにしてください。電気設備の配線とインストール用件に関しては、電
源工事を行った業者、または管轄の電力会社にお問い合わせください。
運用中の注意事項
カートリッジ挿入口に手を入れない
カートリッジ挿入口に手を入れないでください。手を挟まれたり、巻き込まれたりしてけがを
するおそれがあります。
雷がなったら触らない
雷が鳴りだしたら、DCケーブルに触れないでください。感電の原因となります。
電源・電源コードに関する注意事項
指定以外のコンセントに差し込まない
指定された電圧でアース付のコンセントをお使いください。指定以外で使うと火災や漏電の
原因となります。
また、延長コードが必要となるような場合には設置しないでください。本装置の電源仕様に
合ってないコードに接続すると、コードが過熱して火災の原因となります。
中途半端に差し込まない
電源ケーブルはしっかりと差し込んでください。中途半端に差し込むと接触不良のため発熱
し、火災の原因となることがあります。また差し込み部にほこりがたまり、水滴などが付くと
発熱し、火災の原因となるおそれがあります。
たこ足配線にしない
コンセントに定格以上の電流がながれることによって、過熱して火災の原因となるおそれが
あります。
添付の電源コードを他の装置や用途に使用しない
添付の電源コードは本装置に接続し、使用することを目的として設計され、その安全性が確
認されているものです。決して他の装置や用途に使用しないでください。火災や感電の原因
となるおそれがあります。
お手入れに関する注意事項
自分で分解・修理・改造はしない
本書に記載されている場合を除き、絶対に分解したり、修理・改造をおこなったりしないでく
ださい。装置が正常に動作しなくなるばかりでなく、感電や火災の危険があります。
中途半端に取り付けない
DCケーブルやインタフェースケーブルは確実に取り付けてください。中途半端に取り付ける
と接触不良を起こし、発煙や発火の原因となるおそれがあります。
プラグを差し込んだまま取り扱わない
お手入れやオプションの取付け、取り外しは、本装置の電源ユニットをオフにして、電源コー
ドをコンセントから抜いておこなってください。たとえ電源ユニットをオフにしても、電源コード
を接続したまま装置内の部品やコネクタに触れると感電したりショートによる火災を起こした
りするおそれがあります。
また、電源プラグはときどき抜いて、乾いた布でほこりやゴミをよくふき取ってください。ほこ
りがたまったままで、水滴などが付くと発熱し、火災の原因となるおそれがあります。
爆発や破裂による障害を負う恐れがあることを示します。
指定以外の場所で使用しない
本装置はEIA規格に適合したExpressサーバ用の19インチラックに取り付けて使用します。
本装置を取り付けるラックを設置環境に適していない場所は設置しないでください。
本装置やラックに取り付けているその他のシステムに悪影響をおよぼすばかりでなく、火災
やラックの転倒によるけがなどをするおそれがあります。設置場所に関する詳細な説明や
耐震工事についてはラックに添付のマニュアルを参照するか、保守サービス会社にお問い
合わせください。
規格以外のラックで使用しない
本装置はEIA規格に適合したExpressサーバ用のラックに取り付けて使用します。EIA規格
に適合していないラックに取り付けて使用したり、ラックに取り付けずに使用したりしないで
ください。本装置が正常に動作しなくなるばかりか、けがや周囲の破損の原因になることが
あります。本装置で使用できるラックについては保守サービス会社にお問い合わせください。
ぬれた手で電源プラグを持たない。
ぬれた手で電源プラグの抜き差しをしないでください。感電するおそれがあります。
アース線をガス管につながない
アース線は絶対にガス栓につながないでください。ガス爆発の原因になります。
海外で使用しない
本装置は、日本国内専用の装置です。海外では使用できません。この装置を海外で使用す
ると火災や感電の原因となります。
設置・移動・保管・接続に関する注意事項
一人で持ち上げない
デバイス増設ユニットは、最大20Kg(構成によって異なる)あります。ラックへ取付け・取り外
し・移動の際は、必ず２人以上または、リフターを使用してください。１人でおこなうと腰を痛
めたり、デバイス増設ユニットを落としてけがをしたり、周辺の破損の原因となります。装置
の底面をしっかりと持っておこなってください。また、フロントベゼルを持って、持ち上げない
でください。フロントベゼルが外れて落下し、けがの原因となります。
指定以外の場所に設置しない
本装置を次に示すような場所や本書で指定している場所以外に置かないでください。火災
の原因となるおそれがあります。
●ほこりの多い場所 ●直射日光が当たる場所
●給湯器のそばなどの湿気の多い場所 ●不安定な場所
ラックから引き出した状態にある装置に荷重をかけない
ラックから引き出された状態にある装置の上から荷重をかけないでください。フレームが曲
がり、ラックへ搭載できなくなります。また、装置が落下し、怪我をするおそれがあります。
腐食性ガスの存在する環境で使用または保管しない
腐食性ガス(二酸化硫黄、硫化水素、二酸化窒素、塩素、アンモニア、オゾンなど)の存在す
る環境に設置し、使用しないでください。
また、ほこりや空気中に腐食を促進する成分(塩化ナトリウムや硫黄など)や導電性の金属
などが含まれている環境へも配置しないでください。装置内部のプリント基板が腐食し、故
障および発煙・発火の原因となるおそれがあります。
もし、ご使用の環境で上記の疑いがある場合には、販売店または保守サービス会社にご相
談ください。
指を挟まない
デバイス増設ユニットをスライドレールに取付ける際に、レールなどで指を挟んだりしないよ
う十分注意してください。
複数台の装置をラックから引き出した状態にしない
複数台の装置をラックから引き出すとラックが倒れるおそれがあります。装置は一度に１台
ずつ引き出してください。
カバーを外したまま取り付けない
本装置のカバー類を取り外した状態でラックに取り付けないでください。装置内部の冷却効
果を低下させ、誤動作の原因となるばかりでなく、ほこりが入って火災や感電の原因となる
ことがあります。
プラグを抜かずにインタフェースケーブルの取付けや取り外しをしない
インタフェースケーブルの取付け／取り外しは電源コードをコンセントから抜いておこなって
ください。たとえ、電源ユニットがオフ状態でも電源コードを接続したままケーブルに触ると
感電したり、ショートによる火災を起こしたりすることがあります。また、ケーブルに取付け、
取り外しは接続先の電源を切ってからおこなってください。
ファンや通気孔をふさがない
本製品の背面にあるファンや前面の通気孔をふさがないでください。内部の温度が上昇し、
誤作動の原因となるばかりでなく、火災や感電の原因となります。
指定以外のインタフェースケーブルを使用しない
インタフェースケーブルは、NECが指定するものを使用し、接続する装置やコネクタを確認し
た上で接続してください。指定以外のケーブルを使用したり、接続先を誤ったりすると、
ショートにより火災を起こすことがあります。
また、インタフェースケーブルに取扱いや接続について次の注意をお守りください。
●破損したケーブルコネクタを使用しない。インタフェースケーブルを接続する前に、ケーブ
ルコネクタが破損していたり、コネクタピンが曲がっていたり 汚れたりしていないことを確
認してください。
●ケーブルを踏まない。
●ケーブルの接続がゆるんだまま使用しない。
●ケーブルの上にものを乗せない。
●インタフェースケーブルの接続がゆるんだまま使用しないでください。インタフェースケー
ブルを接続したら、ネジ止めなどのロックを確実におこなってください。インタフェース
ケーブルを取り外すときはロックを外し、コネクタ部分を持ってまっすぐに引き抜いてくだ
さい。

3. デバイスの取り付け方法
本製品に5.25インチデバイスを取り付けるときは、デバイスベイカバーを取り外し、5.25インチデバイスへラッチング
レールを取り付けます。
(1) フロントベゼルを取り外しプラスドライバを使ってデバイスベイカバーを取り外します。
(2) 本体内に格納しているラッチングレールを5.25インチデバイスへ取り付けます。
(3)デバイスベイ挿入口へラッチングレールをあわせてまっすぐ装置に押し込むと、装置が固定されます。
（カチッという音がして固定されます。）

General
Do not use the Device Expansion Unit for services involving human lives or requiring high
reliability.
The Device Expansion Unit is not intended to be used with or control facilities or devices
concerning human lives, including medical devices, nuclear facilities and devices,
aeronautics and space devices, transportation facilities and devices; and facilities and
devices requiring high reliability. NEC assumes no liability for any accident resulting in
personal injury, death, or property damage if the Device Expansion Unit has been used in
the above conditions.
Do not use the Device Expansion Unit in any unapproved place.
Install the Device Expansion Unit on a standard EIA 19-inch rack assembly for NEC
Express server. Do not install the rack containing the Device Expansion Unit in a place
inappropriate to the rack installation environment.
Failure to follow these instructions may cause some bad influences to be imposed on the
Device Expansion Unit and other systems installed on the rack and also a fire or personal
injury due to falling of the rack may occur. For the detailed explanation on the place
where the rack should be installed and the earthquake-resistant construction for the rack,
refer to the manual attached to the rack or contact you sales agent.
Keep water or foreign matter away from the Device Expansion Unit.
Do not let any form of liquid (water etc.) or foreign matter (e.g., pins or paper clips) enter
the Device Expansion Unit. Failure to follow this warning may cause an electric shock, a
fire, or a failure of the chassis. When such things accidentally enter the Device Expansion
Unit, immediately turn off the power and disconnect the power plug from the outlet. Do
not disassemble the Device Expansion Unit. Contact your sales agent.
Power Supply and Power Cord Use
Do not hold the power plug with a wet hand.
Do not disconnect/connect the plug while your hands are wet. Failure to follow this
warning may cause an electric shock.
Do not remove or defeat the ground prong on the power cord.
This equipment has a 3-wire, grounded power code. To prevent electrical hazards, do not
remove or defeat the ground prong on the power cord.
Do not connect the ground wire to a gas pipe.
Do not connect the ground wire to a gas pipe. Failure to follow this warning may cause a
gas explosion.
Plug in to a proper power source.
Use a proper wall outlet. Use of an improper power source may cause a fire or a power
leak.
Do not install the Device Expansion Unit where you need an extension cord. Use of a
cord that does not meet the power specifications of the Device Expansion Unit may heat
up the cord and cause a fire.
Do not connect the power cord to an outlet that has an illegal number of connections.
The electric current exceeding the rated flow overheats the outlet, which may cause a fire.
Always install the Device Expansion Unit on a rack for NEC Express server, conforming to
the relevant standard.
Install the Device Expansion Unit on a rack confirming to the EIA standard for the server
to be used. Do not use the Device Expansion Unit with installed on any other rack than
standard EIA 19-inch rack or without the installation on a proper rack. Failure to follow
these instructions may cause the Device Expansion Unit to operate incorrectly and/or
personal injury or damages of surrounding devices to occur. Contact your sales agent for
the racks available for the Device Expansion Unit.

3. Install a 5.25-inch devices in the Device Expansion Unit in the procedure below.
・To install a 5.25-inch device in DEVICE1, use the latching rails (2) installed in the Device Expansion Unit
(1) To install 5.25-inch devices in DEVICE2 - DEVICE4, remove the respective device bay covers.
(2)Install latching rails on the 5.25-inch device to be installed in the Device Expansion Unit.
(3)Install the 5.25-inch device into the device bay. Push the device until a click occurs
Do not use the Device Expansion Unit if any smoke, odor, or noise is present.
If smoke, odor, or noise is present, immediately turn off the POWER switch and
disconnect the power plug from the outlet (turning off the power of the NEC Express
server can have the power of the Device Expansion Unit to be turned off). Then contact
your sales agent. Using the Device Expansion Unit in such conditions may cause a fire.
Keep needles or metal objects away from the Device Expansion Unit.
Do not insert needles or metal objects into ventilation holes in the Device Expansion Unit
or openings in the hard disk drive. Doing so may cause an electric shock.
Protect the equipment from extremely low or high temperature.
Protect the equipment from extremely low or high temperature. Let the system warm (or
cool) to room temperature before using it.
The Maximum Recommended Ambient Operating Temperature (TMRA) for the Device
Expansion Unit is 35℃.
Insert the power plug into the outlet as far as it goes.
Heat generation resulting from a halfway inserted power plug (imperfect contact) may
cause a fire. Heat will also be generated if condensation is formed on dusty blades of the
halfway inserted plug, increasing the possibility of fire.
Use the authorized power cord only.
Use only the power cord that comes with the Device Expansion Unit. Use of an
unauthorized power cord may cause a fire when the electric current exceeds the rated
flow.
Also, observe the following to prevent an electric shock or fire caused by a damaged cord.
・Do not stretch the cord harness.
・Do not pinch the power cord.
・Do not bend the power cord.
・Keep chemicals away from the power cord.
・Do not twist the power cord.
・Do not place any object on the power cord.
・Do not bundle power cords.
・Do not alter, modify, or repair the power cord.
・Do not secure the power cord with staples or equivalents.
・Do not use any damaged power cord. (Replace a damaged power cord with a new one of
the same specifications. Ask your sales agent for replacement.)
Do not use the attached power cord for any other devices or usage.
The power cord that comes with your server is designed aiming to connect with this
server and to use with the server, and its safety has been tested. Do not use the
attached power cord for any other purpose. Doing so may cause a fire or an electric
shock.
Do not carry or install the rack only by a single person.
More than one person is required to carry or install the rack. Failure to follow this
instruction may cause the rack to fall to result in personal injury and/or breakage of
surrounding devices. In particular, a high rack is unstable if it is not fixed by stabilizers.
More than one person must always carry or install the rack while they support it.
Do not install the rack so that the load may be concentrated on a specific point.
Install stabilizers on the rack so that the total load of the rack and devices mounted on
the rack is not concentrated on a singe point or join more than one rack with each other
to distribute the load. Failure to follow this instruction may cause the rack to fall to result
in personal injury.
Notes on Installing and Accessing the Rack Cabinet
Do not install components on the rack only by yourself.
More than one person is required to install parts including the doors and trays for the rack.
Failure to follow this instruction may cause some parts to fall to be broken and/or to
result in personal injury.
Do not pull out a device from the rack if the rack is unstable.
Always pull out a device from the rack in the state that the rack is made stable (by the
installation of stabilizers or earthquake-resistant construction).
Do not leave more than one device being pulled out from the rack.
Pulling out more than one device from the rack may cause the rack to be fallen. Only pull
out a single device from the rack at a time.
Do not provide the wiring for the rack to exceed the rating of the power supply.
To prevent burns, fires, and device damages, the power supplied to the power supply in
the rack shall not exceed the rating load of the power branch circuit. Contact the local
power company for the requirements on the wiring and installation of electric facilities.
Maintain reliable earthing
Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment should be maintained. Particular attention
should be given to supply connection other than direct connection to the branch circuit
(e.g. use of power strips).
If installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, the operating ambient temperature of
the rack environment may be greater than room ambient. Therefore, consideration should
be given to installing the equipment in an environment compatible with the manufacturer’s
maximum rated ambient temperature (Tmra).
Installation of the equipment in a rack should be such that the amount of air flow required
for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised.
Mounting of the equipment in the rack should be such that a hazardous condition is not
achieved due to uneven mechanical loading.
Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment should be maintained. Particular attention
should be given to supply connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit
(e.g., use of power strips).
Do not attempt to lift the Device Expansion Unit only by yourself.
The Device Expansion Unit weighs max. 20 kg (depending on its hardware configuration).
Always install, disassembly, or carry the Device Expansion Unit by more than two persons
or use the lifter. Working with the Device Expansion Unit only by yourself may strain your
waists or drop the chassis to cause personal injury or damages of surrounding devices.
Hold the Device Expansion Unit firmly by its bottom with other person to carry it. Do not
hold the front bezel to lift the Device Expansion Unit. The front bezel may be disengaged
from the chassis, causing personal injury.
Do not install the Device Expansion Unit in any place other than specified.
Do not install the Device Expansion Unit in the following places or any place other than
specified in this User's Guide. Failure to follow this instruction may cause a fire.
・a dusty place ・a place exposed to direct sunlight
･a humid place such as near a boiler ･an unstable place
Installation, Relocation, Storage, and Connection
Do not install the Device Expansion Unit on rack with leaving covers removed.
Do not install the Device Expansion Unit on a rack with the cover being removed. Failure
to follow this instruction may reduce the cooling effect in the server to result in some
malfunction and/or dusts to enter the server to result in a fire or electric shock.
Do not pinch your finger with rails or other components.
Note sufficiently that your fingers may not be caught between a rail and another
mechanical part or cut by a rail at installation or removal of the Device Expansion Unit
from the rack. When pressing the safety latch release lever on the rack slide rail, use a
screwdriver or tools to press the release levers on the slide rail. Pressing the levers with
your finger may cause an injury.
Do not use any unauthorized interface cable.
Use only interface cables provided by NEC and locate a proper device and connector
before connecting a cable. Using an authorized cable or connecting a cable to an
improper destination may cause a short circuit, resulting in a fire.
Do not connect any interface cable with the power cord of the Device Expansion Unit
plugged to a power source.
Make sure to power off the Device Expansion Unit and unplug the power cord from a
power outlet before connecting/disconnecting the interface cable. If the Device Expansion
Unit is off-powered but its power cord is plugged to a power source, touching the cable
may cause an electric shock or a fire resulted from a short circuit. Also,
connect/disconnect the interface cable after turning off the power of the destination..
Also, observe the following notes on using and connecting an interface cable.
Do not use any damaged cable connector. Before connecting an interface cable, confirm
that any cable connector is not damaged and any connector pin is not bent or dirt.
･Do not step on the cable.
･Do not use the Device Expansion Unit with loose cable connections.
･Do not place any object on the cable.
･Do not use the Device Expansion Unit with loose interface cable connections. After
connecting the interface cable, lock it securely by screw driving or equivalent. To
disconnect the interface cable, unlock it and hold the connector to pull out it straight.
Notes on Installing and Accessing the Rack Cabinet
Do not use the equipment in the place where corrosive gases exist.
Make sure not to locate or use the server in the place where corrosive gases
(sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen dioxide, chlorine, ammonia, ozone,
etc) exist.
Also, do not set it in the environment where the air (or dust) includes
components accelerating corrosion (ex. sulfur, sodium chloride) or conductive
metals. There is a risk of a fire due to corrosion and shorts of an internal printed
board.
Do not disassemble, repair, or alter the Device Expansion Unit.
Do not attempt to disassemble, repair, or alter the Device Expansion Unit on any occasion
other than described in this User's Guide. Failure to follow this instruction may cause an
electric shock or fire as well as malfunctions of the chassis.
Disconnect the power plug before cleaning the Device Expansion Unit.
Make sure to power off the Device Expansion Unit and disconnect the power plug from a
power outlet before cleaning or installing/removing option boards. Touching any internal
device of the Device Expansion Unit with its power cord connected to a power source
may cause an electric shock or a fire due to short circuit even if the Device Expansion
Unit is off-powered.
Also, disconnect the power plug from the outlet occasionally and clean the plug with a dry
cloth. Heat will be generated if condensation is formed on a dusty plug, which may cause
a fire.
Cleaning and Working with Internal Devices
High temperature
Immediately after the Device Expansion Unit is powered off, its internal components such
as hard disk drives are very hot. Leave the server until its internal components fully cool
down before installing/removing any component.
Make sure to complete cable and board installations.
Always install the power cable, interface cable, and option boards firmly. An incomplete
installation may cause a contact failure, resulting in smoking or fire.
The Device Expansion Unit contains some components that are only good for a limited
period of time and require replacement, such as the internal fan module and power unit.
For stable operation of the Device Expansion Unit, NEC recommends you replace these
components on a regular basis. Consult with your sales agent for replacement or the
product lives.
Do not touch the Device Expansion Unit when it thunders.
Disconnect the power plug from the outlet when a thunderstorm is approaching. If it
starts thundering before you disconnect the power plug, do not touch any part of the
Device Expansion Unit including the cables. Failure to follow this warning may cause a
fire or an electric shock..
Do not place any object on top of the Device Expansion Unit.
The Device Expansion Unit may fall and cause property damage to the surroundings.
During Operation
Do not use a cellular phone or pager around the Device ExpansionUnit.
Turn off the cellular phone or pager around the Device Expansion Unit. Radio interference
may cause malfunctions of the Device Expansion Unit.
Keep any animal (pet) away from the Device Expansion Unit.
Pet's discharges or fur may enter the Device Expansion Unit and cause a fire or electric
shock.

Verify the packed contents with the part list given below and ensure that all the components and parts are
present. Also, check that each item is undamaged. If a component or part is missing or damaged, contact
your dealer.
2. Installation Procedure ∼NEC Rack/Third Vendor Rack ∼
(1)Loosen the eight screws fixing the slide bracket of each of the outer rails.
This is required to have the length of the outer rail be the same as the depth of
the rack (or the distance between the front and rear supports). If the screws
are loosened, you can slide the slide bracket.

(2) Locate the outer rails on the frames of the rack.
(3) Fix the each of the outer rails by using large screws (two at each of the front
and rear, or four in total) and washers (two at each of the front and rear, or
four in total).
(4) Fasten the screws loosened in step 1 to fix the slide bracket.
(5) Install another outer rail on the rack in the same way as described in
steps 1 to 4 above
(6) Two or more workers hold the unit
securely to mount it on the rack
