1 Overview
N77 EVB is designed to commission the N77 module. It provides the power supply interface, USB-to-
Serial interface, USB interface, SIM card interface, antenna interface, startup (PWRKEY_N) button,
download (USB_BOOT) button, and other peripheral interfaces. You can connect it to a power supply
and a computer to commission the module.
N77 EVK provides the following accessories.
⚫N77 EVB (excluding the N77 module)
⚫N77 module
⚫Others (antenna or other accessories)

3 EVB Interfaces and Buttons
N77 EVB can only be powered by the external power supply. It uses the Micro-USB cable to perform
data communications. The following provides the power supply methods and communication methods
of the EVB.
3.1 Power Supply Interface
The N77 EVB can be supplied power in two methods:
⚫Connect the power supply interface to an external power source through a 5V power supply
adapter.
⚫Connect the solder pads to a 5V regulated power source through wires.
Note that the output current of the module should be at least 3.0 A.

The power source supplies voltage to the module directly through solder pads. Use a black alligator clip to clamp
the GND solder pad and a red alligator clip to clamp the DC 5V solder pad as shown in the figure above.
Do NOT connect the pads reversely. Otherwise, the module will be burned and cannot be repaired.
3.2 Communication Interfaces
All communication interfaces of N77 EVB use the Micro-USB cable to transmit AT commands.

Communication methods of N77 EVB
⚫Connect the USB interface to your computer; it is used for firmware download and AT
communications.
⚫Connect the USB-to-UART2 interface to your computer; it is used for only AT communications.
⚫Connect the USB-to-UART1 interface to your computer; it is used to capture log messages from
the module.

3.3 Antenna Interfaces
N77 EVB provides a main antenna interface (right) and a diversity antenna interface (left).
Note that the operating frequency bands the antenna supports should cover the bands that N77
supports.

3.4 SIM Card Interfaces
N77 EVB provides two kinds of SIM card connectors that can be automatically adapted to the 1.8V/3.0V
SIM card.
SIM1 card connector is a flip-open type card slot.

3.5 Buttons
N77 EVB provides 3 buttons: RESET, PWRKEY_N, and USB_BOOT, As shown in the figure below.

Press the button and do not release it and then turn the
power switch to the ON side; the module will enter download
mode. Short connect the first and second pins from the right
of the pin header before using this button.
3.6 Pin Headers
N77 EVB provides 5 pin header positions for PWRKEY_P, SLEEP, BOOT, UART2 flow control, and
ADC1.

Short connect the pin header and the module will start
automatically after the EVB is powered.
SLEEP
Configure the functions of sleep mode for the module
through the AT+ENPWRSAVE=<n> command.
⚫T+ENPWRSAVE=<0>
Disable the module to enter sleep mode.
⚫AT+ENPWRSAVE=<1>

Set the SLEEP pin to active low; short connect the
2 and 3 pins to trigger sleep mode.
⚫AT+ENPWRSAVE=<2>
Set the SLEEP pin to active high; short connect the
1 and 2 pins to trigger the sleep mode.
BOOT
Short connect the 1 and 2 pins before using the
USB_BOOT button.
UART2 flow
control
This pin header is used for RTS and CTS functions; it is
reserved for UART2. Leave this pin floating.
ADC1
This pin header is used for voltage acquisition (0.1 V to
1.3 V). Leave this pin floating.
Only 1.08 V voltage acquisition pins (1 and 2) and 1.2 V
voltage acquisition pins (2 and 3) are reserved.

4 Starting the Module
Follow the steps below to start the module.
Step 1: Insert a SIM card into the module.
Step 2: Supply power to the N77 EVB; see Chapter 3.1 .
Step 3: Turn the power switch to the On side to supply power to the module.
The POWER indicator (red) turns on after the EVB is powered.
Step 4: Press the PWRKEY_N or RESET button for over 1 second to start the module.
During the startup process, the POWER (red), STATUS (green), and RING (green) indicators are on.

5 Commissioning the Module
5.1 Through USB-to-Serial Interface
Step 1: Install the serial port drivers.
1. Decompress the driver package.
2. Double-click PL2303G_130_20190311 and follow the wizard to install the drivers.
Step 2: Ensure whether the drivers are installed properly and correctly.
Connect the N77 EVB through the USB-to-UART2 interface to your computer with a USB cable.
⚫If the Device Manager interface displays “Profile PL2303GC USB Serial COM Port”, the serial
port can be read properly.
⚫If the serial port drivers are not installed properly, the Device Manager interface displays the
yellow exclamation mark.
Contact Neoway FAE if you cannot install the serial port drivers properly according to the steps mentioned
above.
Step 3: Start the Neo_ComTool tool to commission N77. You can also use another serial port tool.
1. Configure the tool.
⚫Select the port number corresponds to Profile PL2303GC USB Serial COM Port in the
ComNum box .

⚫For other settings, configure them according to the figure below.
2. After all settings are completed, right-click Open COM.
3. Send any AT command to the module through the serial port tool, such as "AT" for baud rate
adaptive operation.
When the serial port displays OK, the serial port functions.
4. Commission the module through the serial-port tool.
5.2 Through USB Interface
Step 1: (Optional) disable driver signature enforcement of your computer.
On Windows 8 or Windows 10, you need to disable driver signature enforcement before installing the
USB drivers. If your computer runs a Win7 OS, skip this step.
Step 2: Install the USB drivers.
1. Decompress the USB driver package.
The USB driver for the N77 module may be different depending on the software version.
2. Double-click DPInst and follow the wizard to install the drivers.

Right-click Install this driver software anyway as shown in the figure below during the installation
process.
Step 3: Ensure whether the USB drivers are installed properly.
Connect the N77 EVB through the USB interface to your computer with a USB cable.
⚫If the USB drivers are installed properly, the Device Manager interface displays “Neoway AT
Port”.

⚫If the USB drivers are not installed properly, the Device Manager interface displays the yellow
exclamation mark as shown in the figure below.
Step 4: Start the Neo_ComTool tool to commission N77 (You can also use another serial port tool).
1. Configure the tool.
⚫Select the port number corresponds to Neoway AT Port in the ComNum box.
⚫For other settings, configure them according to the figure below.
