Wireless Setup Guide
The following steps will take yo thro gh the process of setting p and connecting to yo r
wireless network. Yo can also se these steps to tro bleshoot wireless connection iss es.
Step 1: Checking Computer Network Settings:
Yo will need to set the network connection on yo r comp ter to obtain an IP address
a tomatically. Please follow the instr ctions appropriate for yo r operating system below:
Below are the instr ctions for setting Windows XP to obtain an IP address a tomatically for
yo r ethernet connection:
1. Click on the St rt Menu, and go to “Control P nel”.
2. Click on “Network Connections”.
(If yo only see "Network nd Internet Connections", open that first, and then click on
"Network Connections".)
3. Right click on “Loc l Are Connection” and select “Properties”.
4. Do ble-click on “Internet Protocol”.
5. Select "Obt in n IP ddress utom tic lly", and "Obt in DNS server
ddress utom tic lly".
6. Click “OK”, and then click “OK” (or “Close”).
Below are the instr ctions for setting Windows Vista to obtain an IP address a tomatically for
yo r ethernet connection:
1. Click on the St rt Menu, and go to “Control P nel”.
2. Click on “Network nd Sh ring Centre”.
(If yo only see "Network nd Internet", open that first, and then click on "Network nd
Sh ring Centre".)
3. Click on “M n ge network connections” ( on the lefthandside of the window ).
4. Right click on “Loc l Are Connection” and select “Properties”.
5. Do ble-click on “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)”.
6. Select "Obt in n IP ddress utom tic lly", and "Obt in DNS server
ddress utom tic lly".
7. Click “OK”, and then click “OK” again.

Below are the instr ctions for setting Windows 7 to obtain an IP address a tomatically for yo r
ethernet connection:
1. Click on the St rt Menu, and go to “Control P nel”.
2. Click on “Network nd Sh ring Centre”.
(If yo only see "Network nd Internet", open that first, and then click on "Network nd
Sh ring Centre".)
3. Click on “Ch nge d pter settings” ( on the lefthandside of the window ).
4. Right click on “Loc l Are Connection” and select “Properties”.
5. Do ble-click on “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)”.
6. Select "Obt in n IP ddress utom tic lly", and "Obt in DNS server
ddress utom tic lly".
7. Click “OK”, and then click “OK” again.
Below are the instr ctions for setting Mac OS X to obtain an IP address a tomatically for yo r
ethernet connection:
1. Click on the Apple Men , and go to "System Preferences".
2. Click on "Network".
3. Click on “Ethernet” or "Built-in Ethernet".
4. Click on the "Configure" drop-down box, and select "Using DHCP" then click
"Apply".

Step 2: Configuring your wireless settings:
Ple se ensure th t your modem/router is connected to your computer using n
ethernet c ble before continuing.
Troubleshooting Tip
After logging into your router, verify the following settings to troubleshoot issues with your wireless connection:
- Wireless MAC filtering is disabled.
- Your ID is not hidden.
- Confirm your wireless security settings (Make sure you are using the correct wireless security key) .
- Confirm your selected wireless security is supported by your wireless device.
1. Open yo r web browser and navigate to the site http://192.168.1.1
2. Use “admin” (witho t the q otes) for the sername and “admin” (witho t the q otes)
for the password.
3. Click on Wireless and then select Basic from the left-hand men .

4. Ens re Enable Wireless is ticked and Hide Access Point is nticked.
5. Yo r SSID will be displayed in the SSID field. This is the name of yo r network and
yo may change this if desired.
If yo choose to change the SSID, please make a note of this as this will be sed to
connect to yo r network in a later step.
6. Click Apply/Save to allow changes to take effect.
7. Click on Sec rity from the left-hand men
8. Ens re Enable WPS is set to Disabled.
9. For this example, WPA2-PSK is being sed as the Network A thentication type.
10. Click on Click here to display to view yo r c rrent Network sec rity key.
Make a note of this, as it will be sed to connect to yo r network in a later step.
11. Click on Apply/Save to allow any changes made to take effect.

Step 3: Sc nning for, nd connecting to your Wireless Network:
Yo can now scan for yo r wireless network and connect to it.
Please click the appropriate operating system listed below and follow the steps for
operating system specific instr ctions on how to do this:

1. Click on the Start Men and then “Run”. Type: ncp .cpl <and click “OK”>
Yo sho ld now see the following window:
2. Right click on “Wireless Network Connection” and select "Properties".
If yo cannot see a “Wireless Network Connection”
item, yo r wireless adapter may not be installed or
inserted correctly. Please check this before contin ing
with steps in this g ide.

3. Click on the "Wireless Networks" tab, as shown below.
(If yo do not see this tab, yo will need to enable and start the “Wireless Zero Configur tion” service.
Please refer to the steps at the end of the g ide to enable this)
Make s re "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" is TICKED.
This window will list any wireless networks yo have previo sly connected to. If yo see an
entry matching the SSID yo obtained at the start of this g ide, yo will need to select it and
then click "Remove".
(Typically, a n mber of networks will be listed here. This is nothing to worry abo t. Yo can
delete the other entries too. These are j st stored settings and passwords for connecting to
the listed networks.)
If yo r SSID is not listed, or yo have j st removed it, click “OK”.
The window will close and yo sho ld now be ret rned to the “Network Connections” control
panel window.

4. Right click on “Wireless Network Connection” and select "View Av il ble
Wireless Networks".
5. Yo sho ld see a network listed with the SSID yo obtained at the start of this g ide.
Select yo r wireless network and click “Connect”.

6. If yo are prompted to enter a “Network key” (also known as a WEP or WPA key),
please type the following into the “Network key” and “Confirm network key”
sections: 1b2c3d4e5 ( ll in lowerc se) and click "Connect".
The defa lt WEP key for most NetComm prod cts is:
1b2c3d4e5
If yo have changed this key, yo will need to enter
this new key instead of the one above.
7. Yo sho ld now see the following window listing yo r network with "Connected"
showing:
(If yo do not, yo may have entered an incorrect sec rity key, please try following these steps again.)
After completing the steps above, yo sho ld now be connected to yo r wireless network and
able to s rf the internet.
Please remember to disconnect yo r ethernet cable.

This window will list any wireless networks yo have previo sly connected to. If yo see an

Click “OK” when prompted to proceed.

ret rned to the "Network nd Sh ring Center".

5. Click on "M n ge Network Connections" on the left-hand side.
6. Right-click on "Wireless Network Connection" and select "Connect / Disconnect".
If yo cannot see a “Wireless Network Connection”
item, yo r wireless adapter may not be installed or
inserted correctly. Please check this before contin ing
with steps in this g ide.

7. Yo sho ld see a network listed with the SSID yo obtained at the start of this g ide.
Select yo r wireless network and click “Connect”.

8. If yo are prompted to enter a “Security key or p ssphr se” (also known as a WEP
or WPA key), please type the following into the “Security key or p ssphr se”
section: 1b2c3d4e5 and click "Connect".
The defa lt WEP key for most NetComm prod cts is:
1b2c3d4e5
If yo have changed this key, yo will need to enter
this new key instead of the one above.
9. Yo sho ld then see the following page while the wireless connection is started:

10. Yo may see a window that asks yo to "Select loc tion for the 'wireless'
network".
Please select the "Home" location, as shown below:
11. Yo sho ld then see a window prompting yo to save the wireless connection.
- Make s re “S ve this network” is TICKED.
- Make s re “St rt this connection utom tic lly” is TICKED.
- Click “Close” to complete the wireless connection process.
After completing the steps above, yo sho ld now be connected to yo r wireless network and
able to s rf the internet.
Please remember to disconnect yo r ethernet cable.
