Topreventaccidents
Mostaccidentsorinjuriesthatoccurinworkshopsare
theresultofnon-observanceofsimpleandfundamental
safetyregulations.Forthisreason,inmostcasesthese
accidentscanbeavoided:byforeseeingpossiblecauses
andconsequentlyactingwiththenecessarycautionand
care.
Accidentsmayoccurwithalltypesofvehicle,regardless
ofhowwellitwasdesignedandbuilt.
Acarefulandjudiciousservicetechnicianisthebestguar-
anteeagainstaccidents.
Preciseobservanceofthemostbasicsafetyruleisnor-
mallysufcienttoavoidmanyseriousaccidents.
“DANGER”–Nevercarryoutanycleaning,lubricationor
maintenanceoperationswhentheengineisrunning.
Safetyregulations
Generalguidelines
•Carefullyfollowspeciedrepairandmaintenanceprocedures.
•Donotwearrings,wristwatches,jewellery,unbuttonedorloosearticlesofclothingsuchas:ties,tornclothing,
scarves,openjacketsorshirtswithopenzipsthatmayremainentangledinmovingparts.Itisadvisedtowear
approvedsafetyclothing,e.g:non-slipfootwear,gloves,safetygoggles,helmets,etc.
•Donotcarryoutrepairoperationswithsomeonesittinginthedriver’sseat,unlessthepersonisatrainedtechnician
whoisassistingwiththeoperationinquestion.
•Donotoperatethevehicleoruseanyoftheimplementsfromdifferentpositions,otherthanthedriver’sseat.
•Donotcarryoutoperationsonthevehiclewiththeenginerunning,unlessspecicallyindicated.
•Stoptheengineandensurethatallpressureisrelievedfromhydrauliccircuitsbeforeremovingcaps,covers,valves,
etc.
•Allrepairandmaintenanceoperationsmustbecarriedoutusingextremecareandattention.

•Servicestepsandplatformsusedinaworkshoporintheeldshouldbebuiltincompliancewiththesafetyrulesin
force.
•Disconnectthebatteriesandlabelallcontrolstoindicatethatthevehicleisbeingserviced.Blockthemachineand
allequipmentwhichshouldberaised.
•Donotcheckorllfueltanks,accumulatorbatteries,norusestartingliquidwhensmokingornearnakedames,
astheseuidsareinammable.
•Brakesareinoperativewhenmanuallyreleasedforrepairormaintenancepurposes:useblocksorsimilardevices
tocontrolthemachineintheseconditions.
•Thefuelnozzleshouldalwaysbeincontactwiththellingaperture:maintainthiscontactuntilthefuelstopsowing
intothetanktoavoidpossiblesparksduetostaticelectricitybuild-up.
•Onlyusespeciedtowingpointsfortowingthevehicle.Connectpartscarefully:makesurethatallpinsand/or
locksaresecuredinpositionbeforeapplyingtraction.Neverremainnearthetowingbars,cablesorchainsthatare
operatingunderload.
•Transportvehiclesthatcannotbedrivenusingatraileroralow-loadingplatformtrolley,ifavailable.
•Whenloadingorunloadingthevehiclefromthetrailer(orothermeansoftransport),selectaatareacapableof
sustainingthetrailerortruckwheels.Firmlysecurethevehicletothetruckortrailerandlockthewheelsinthe
positionusedbythecarrier.
•Electricheaters,battery-chargersandsimilarequipmentmustonlybepoweredbyauxiliarypowersupplieswith
efcientgroundinsulationtoavoidelectricalshockhazards.
•Alwaysusesuitablehoistingorliftingdeviceswhenraisingormovingheavyparts.
•T akeextracareifbystandersarepresent.
•Neverpourpetrolordieseloilintoopen,wideorlowcontainers.
•Neverusegasoline,dieseloilorotherinammableliquidsascleaningagents:usenon-inammable,nontoxic
commerciallyavailablesolvents.
•Wearsafetygoggleswithsideguardswhencleaningpartswithcompressedair.
•Limittheairpressuretoamaximumof2.1bar,accordingtolocalregulations.
•Donotruntheengineinconnedspaceswithoutsuitableventilation.
•Donotsmoke,usenakedames,orcausesparksintheareawhenfuelllingorhandlinghighlyinammableliquids.
•Neverusenakedamesforlightingwhenworkingonthemachineorcheckingforleaks.
•Allmovementsmustbecarriedoutcarefullywhenworkingunder,onornearthevehicle.Wearprotectiveequip-
ment:helmets,gogglesandspecialfootwear.
•Whencarryingoutcheckswiththeenginerunning,requesttheassistanceofanoperatorinthedriver’sseat.The
operatormustmaintainvisualcontactwiththeservicetechnicianatalltimes.
•Ifoperatingoutsidetheworkshop,positionthevehicleonaatsurfaceandlockinposition.Ifworkingonaslope,
lockthevehicleinposition.Movetoaatareaassoonasissafelypossible.
•Damagedorbentchainsorcablesareunreliable:donotusethemforliftingortowing.Alwaysusesuitableprotec-
tivegloveswhenhandlingchainsorcables.
•Chainsshouldalwaysbesafelysecured:makesurethatthehitch-uppointiscapableofsustainingtheloadin
question.Keeptheareanearthehitch-uppoint,chainsorcablesfreeofallbystanders.
•Maintenanceandrepairoperationsmustbecarriedoutinacleananddryarea.Eliminateanywateroroilspillage
immediately.
•Donotcreatepilesofoilorgrease-soakedrags:astheyrepresentaseriousrehazard.Alwaysstoreragsina
closedmetalcontainer.
Beforestartingthetractororitsattachments,check,adjustandblocktheoperator’sseat.Alsocheckthatthereare
nopersonswithinthevehicleorimplementrangeofaction.
•Emptypocketsofallobjectsthatmayfallunobservedintothevehicleparts.
•Inthepresenceofprotrudingmetalparts,useprotectivegogglesorgoggleswithsideguards,helmets,special
footwearandgloves.

•Whenwelding,useprotectivesafetydevices:tintedsafetygoggles,helmets,specialoveralls,glovesandfootwear.
Allpersonspresentintheareawhereweldingistakingplacemustweartintedgoggles.Neverlookdirectlyatthe
weldingarcwithoutsuitableeyeprotection.
•Metalcablestendtofraywithrepeateduse:alwaysusesuitableprotectivedevices(gloves,goggles,etc.)when
handlingcables.
•Handleallpartswithgreatcare.Donotputyourhandsorngersbetweenmovingparts.Alwayswearsuitable
safetyclothing-safetygoggles,glovesandshoes.
Startup
•Neverruntheengineinconnedspacesthatarenotequippedwithadequateventilationforexhaustgasextraction.
•Neverplacethehead,body,limbs,feet,handsorngersnearfansorrotatingbelts.
Engine
•Alwaysloosentheradiatorcapslowlybeforeremovingittoallowanyremainingpressureinthesystemtobedis-
charged.Fillingupwithcoolantshouldonlybecarriedoutwiththeenginestoppedoridling(ifhot).
•Neverllupwithfuelwhentheengineisrunning,especiallyifhot,inordertopreventtheoutbreakofreasaresult
offuelspillage.
•Nevercheckoradjustfanbelttensionwhentheengineisrunning.
Neveradjustthefuelinjectionpumpwhenthevehicleismoving.
•Neverlubricatethevehiclewhentheengineisrunning.
Electricalsystems
•Ifitisnecessarytouseauxiliarybatteries,rememberthatbothendsofthecablesmustbeconnectedasfollows:
(+)with(+)and(−)with(−).Avoidshort-circuitingtheterminals.Gasreleasedfrombatteriesishighlyinammable.
Duringcharging,leavethebatterycompartmentuncoveredtoimproveventilation.Nevercheckthebatterycharge
using“jumpers”(metalobjectsplacedontheterminals).Avoidsparksoramesnearthebatteryzone.Donot
smoketopreventexplosionhazards.
•Beforeservicingoperations,checkforfuelorcurrentleaks:eliminateanyeventualleaksbeforeproceedingwith
work.
•Donotchargebatteriesinconnedspaces:makesurethatthereisadequateventilationinordertopreventacci-
dentalexplosionhazardsasaresultoftheaccumulationofgasesreleasedduringchargingoperations.
•Alwaysdisconnectthebatteriesbeforeperforminganykindofservicingontheelectricalsystem.
Hydraulicsystems
•Aliquidleakingfromatinyholemaybealmostinvisiblebut,atthesametime,bepowerfulenoughtopenetratethe
skin.Therefore,neverusehandstocheckforleaks,butuseapieceofcardboardorwoodforthispurpose.Ifany
liquidpenetratesskintissue,callformedicalaidimmediately.Failuretotreatthisconditionwithcorrectmedical
proceduremayresultinseriousinfectionordermatosis.
•Inordertocheckthepressureinthesystemusesuitableinstruments.
Wheelsandtyres
•Makesurethatthetyresarecorrectlyinatedatthepressurespeciedbythemanufacturer.Periodicallycheckthe
rimsandtyresfordamage.
•Standawayfrom(atthesideof)thetyrewhencheckinginationpressure.
•Onlycheckpressurewhenthevehicleisunloadedandthetyresarecold,toavoidincorrectreadingsasaresult
ofover-pressure.Donotusepartsofrecoveredwheelsasincorrectweldingbrazingorheatingmayweakenand
eventuallycausedamagetothewheel.
•Nevercutorweldarimmountedwithaninatedtyre.

•Deatethetyrebeforeremovinganyobjectcaughtinthetyretread.

Removalandre-tting
•Liftandhandleallheavypartsusingsuitablehoistingequipment.Makesurethatpartsaresustainedbyappropriate
hooksandslings.Usethehoistingeyeboltsforliftingoperations.Extracareshouldbetakenifpersonsarepresent
neartheloadtobelifted.
•Handleallpartswithcarefully.Donotputyourhandsorngersbetweenparts.Wearsuitablesafetyclothing−
safetygoggles,glovesandshoes.
•Avoidtwistingchainsormetalcables.Alwayswearsafetygloveswhenhandlingcablesorchains.

Basicinstructions
Importantnotice
AllmaintenanceandrepairworkdescribedinthismanualmustbeperformedexclusivelybyNEWHOLLANDservice
technicians,instrictaccordancewiththeinstructionsgivenandusinganyspecictoolsnecessary.Anyoneperforming
theoperationsdescribedhereinwithoutstrictlyfollowingtheinstructionsispersonallyresponsibleforanyeventual
injuryordamagetoproperty.
Battery
Beforecarryingoutanykindofserviceoperationdisconnectandisolatethebatterynegativelead,unlessotherwise
requestedforspecicoperations(e.g:operationsthatrequiretheenginerunning).Oncethespecicoperationhas
beencompleted,disconnecttheleadinordertocompletetheoperation.
Shimming
Foreachadjustmentoperation,selectadjustingshimsandmeasureindividuallyusingamicrometer,thenaddup
therecordervalues,donotrelyonmeasuringtheentireshimmingset,whichmaybeincorrect,ortheratedvalue
indicatedforeachonshim.
Rotatingshaftseals
Forcorrectrotatingshaftsealinstallation,proceedasfollows:
•Beforeassembly,allowthesealtosoakintheoilitwillbesealingforatleast30min.
•Thoroughlycleantheshaftandcheckthattheworkingsurfaceontheshaftisnotdamaged.
•Positionthesealinglipfacingtheuid,withhydrodynamiclips,takeintoconsiderationtheshaftrotationdirection
andpositionthegroovessothattheywilldeviatetheuidtowardstheinnersideoftheseal.
•Smearthesealinglipwithathinlayeroflubricant(useoilratherthangrease)andllthegapbetweenthesealing
lipandthedustlipondoublelipsealswithgrease.
•Insertthesealinitsseatandpressdownusingaatpunch,donottapthesealwithahammerormallet.
•Whilstinsertingtheseal,checkthattheitisperpendiculartotheseat,oncesettled,makesurethatitmakescontact
withthethrustelement,ifrequired.
•T opreventdamagingtheseallipontheshaft,positionaprotectiveguardduringinstallationoperations.
O-Ringseals
LubricatetheO-Ringsealsbeforeinsertingthemintheseats,thiswillpreventthemfromoverturningandtwisting,
whichwouldjeopardisesealingefciency.
Sealingcompounds
Applyoneofthefollowingsealingcompoundsonthematingsurfacesmarkedwithan“X”:RTVSILMATE,RHODORSIL®
CAF1orLOCTITE®510™orblackSILASTICAP.
Beforeapplyingthesealingcompound,preparethesurfacesasfollows:
•Removeanyincrustationsusingawirebrush.
•Thoroughlyde-greasethesurfacesusingoneofthefollowingcleaningagents:trichlorethylene,petrolorawater
andsodasolution.
Bearings
Wheninstallingbearingsitisadvisedto:
•Heatthebearingsto80-90°Cbeforettingontheshafts.
•Allowthebearingstocoolbeforeinstallingthemfromtheoutside.

Whenttingsplitsocketelasticpins,ensurethatthepinnotchispositionedinthedirectionoftheforcerequiredto
stressthepin.
Spiralspringpinsdonotrequirespecialpositioning.
Frontseals
Carefullycheckthemetalrings,makingsurethatthe
sealingsurfacesshownosignsofscoring,dentsorwear
causedbyringpairmisalignmentorsurfaceatness
errors.
Evenifonlyoneoftheringsisfaulty,changetheentire
seal.
Neverpairausedringwithanewoneorusedifferent
pairsofrings.
Tottheseals,proceedasfollows:
1.Eliminateanysharpedgesorburrandcarefullyclean
theseatsfortherubberrings.
2.Thoroughlycleantheringsontheseals.
3.Inserteachmetalring(2)ontherespectiverubberring
(1),asshowninthedrawing,actingonthepointsin-
dicatedbythearrows.

4.Makesurethatthemetalringisttedcorrectly,check-
ingthatmeasurement"A"isconstantonallofthecir-
cumference.
5.Assembleeachpairofringsintheirrespectiveseats

Disconnectallservices(lights,windshieldwipers,etc.)beforestartingthevehicle.
Ifthevehicleelectricalsystemrequireschecking,carryoutoperationswiththepowersupplyconnected,oncecheck-
ingiscompleted,disconnectallservicesandswitchoffthepowersupplybeforedisconnectingthecables.
