TheZoom-NikkorED80~ 200mmf/2.8istheworld'sfastestzoomlens.Itslarge
maximumaperturepresentsbrightviewfinderimagesforeasyfocusingandmakesthis
lensidealforsportsorindooreventswherefastshutterspeedsarerequired.Toincrease
itsconvenience,thislenswasdesignedwithquick,one-ringfocusingandzooming;sim-
plyturntheringtofocusandpushorpullittozoom.
Thislenshasanopticalconstructionof15elementsin11groupsanda 2.5xzoom
range.ItusesNikon"Extra-lowDispersion"(ED)glasstoproducesharpimageswith
highcontrastfromtheshortesttothelongestfocallengthandensurethataberrations
arewellcorrected.Inaddition,NikonIntegratedCoating(NIC)isappliedtoallair-to-
glasssurfacesofthelenselementstominimizeghostimagesandflareandproducenat-
urallyrenderedcolors.WithsuitablyequippedNikoncameras,thislensoffers"auto-
maticmaximumapertureindexing"(AI).Themetercouplingridgeandautomaticdia-
phragmfunctiontogethertopermitfull apertureexposuremeasurement.Fornon-AI
typeNikoncameras,thelensisalsofittedwitha metercouplingshoetopermitthe
sameoperation.
MOUNTINGTHELENSA
Positionthelensinthecamera'sbayonetmount,lininguptheapertureindex2 onthe
lenswiththelensmountingindexonthecamera.Twistthecamerabodyclockwise
untilitclicksintoplace.
Toremove,depressthelensreleasebuttononthecameraandtwistthecamerabody
counterclockwise.
Note:Whenmountingthelensona camerawitha metercouplinglever(AItype),
makesurethatthecamera'smetercouplingleveriscorrectlypositioned;whenmount-
ingona camerawithoutthislever(non-AItype),"manual"maximumapertureindex-
ingisrequired.Inbothcases,refertothecamera'sinstructionmanual.
FOCUSING/ZOOMINGBt• B2• B3
First,loosenthelockingscrew® onthefocusing/zoomingring®.
TheZoom-NikkorED80~ 200mmf/2.8focusesfrominfinityto10feet(2.5m).To
focus, turntheringuntiltheimageonthefocusingscreenappearssharpandcrisp.
Formaximumfocusingaccuracy,focuscarefullywiththefocusing/zoomingringatthe
200mmsetting.Theshallowdepth-of-fieldandlargeimagescaleatthisfocallength
willallowyoutofocusthelensextremelyaccurately.Thereisnoneedtorefocuswith
eachchangeinfocallength.
Tozoominorout,lookthroughtheviewfinderandslide theringbackandforthuntil
thedesiredcompositionisframedonthefocusingscreen.Whentheringispushedfor-
wardforshorterfocallengths,a five-positionscaleisuncoveredonthelensbarrelto
showwhichfocallengththelensissetfor.Topresetthelensfora specificfocallength,
aligntheedgeoftheringwiththetopedgeofthedigits.
Finally,retightenthelockingscrewtoholdthesetting.

RECOMMENDEDFOCUSINGSCREENS
VariousinterchangeablefocusingscreensareavailableforF3-andF2-seriescamerasto
suitanytypeoflensorpicture-takingsituation.Thosewhicharerecommendedforuse
withyourlensarelistedbelow.ForscreensusedwithNikoncamerasotherthanF3-
andF2-seriescameras(e.g.,NikonFA,FE2,FM2andFE),refertothecolumnforF3-
seriescameras.FortheK2,B2andE2focusingscreens,refertothecolumnsontheK,
BandE screens,respectively.Fordetails,alsorefertothespecificfocusingscreen's
instructionsheet.
