1. INTRODUCTION
To use the e-mail service in your Nokia 6820 messaging device, you
need to have proper connection settings on the phone. You may key in
the settings manually by following this guide or receive the settings
directly as an over the air message (OTA) and save them on your Nokia
6820 messaging device. For more information on the availability of the e-
mail services, please contact your network operator, service provider or
the nearest authorized Nokia dealer. Some of the most common email
service provider settings are also available through Nokia Phone Support
web pages: www.nokia.com/phonesettings (site address may vary
depending on your country).
You will need to collect some basic information before you start the
manual configuration from your e-mail service provider and/or from the
network service provider.
Note! The exact settings for the E-mail service will vary with E-mail Service Providers.

2. SETTINGS FOR GSM-DATA AND GPRS E-MAIL CONNECTION
2.1 COMMON SETTINGS
Note! Please contact your E-mail Service Provider to get the exact service settings for
your E-mail Service.
Start by pressing Menu and select Messages, Message settings, E-mail settings. First select
Active e-mail settings and select the settings that you want to use for your e-mail account by
pressing Activate.Then select Edit active e-mail setting and follow the instructions in the table
below.

Setting Explanation
Mailbox name Key in your mailbox name. Max. 50 characters.
E-mail address Key in your e-mail address
My name Key in your name or nickname. Will be shown when sending e-mail.
Outgoing SMTP server Key in the SMTP server address.
Incoming server type Select once IMAP4 or POP3 and rest of the settings will follow your
choice
Incoming (IMAP4/POP3) server Define the server address
POP3/IMAP4 username Username to access the POP/IMAP server
POP3/IMAP4 password Password to access the POP/IMAP server
Next, select Other settings
Setting Explanation
Include signature
Select Yes/No. If yes, key in personal signature that is automatically
added to the end of the e-mail.
Use SMTP authorization If your service provider requires SMTP authorization for sending e- mail.
In this case define the SMTP username and password.
SMTP username Key in SMTP username obtained from your service provider for sending
SMTP password Key in SMTP password obtained from your service provider for receiving
Outgoing SMTP port Key in SMTP port number for outgoing e-mails (common value is 25)
Incoming port (IMAP4/POP3) Key in the port number for receiving e-mail. ( common value is 110 for
POP3 and 143 for IMAP)
Reply-to address If you want the replies to be sent to another e-mail address type it in
Secure login Only for POP3 connection. If your service provider requires
authentication for receiving e-mail. Select on or off.
Retrieve e-mails Key in the number of e-mails you want to be retrieved at a time
Retrieval method Select latest if you want to retrieve all new e-mails or retrieve Latest
unread if you want to fetch only latest unread e-mails
If you have a GSM data bearer continue with the configuration. For GPRS connection, go to page 7.

2.2 GSM-DATA CONNECTION
Next, select SMTP connection settings

Proxies Enable/disable proxies according to your service provider’s support.
Primary proxy Define the primary proxy
Secondary proxy Define the secondary proxy
Data Bearer Select GSM data
Bearer settings (Opens the bearer setting menu)
Dial-up number Key in local or international phone number
Authentication type Select normal
Data call type Select Analogue or ISDN (v.110) depending on the network and modem.
Check with your Internet access provider.
Data call speed Select 9600/14400
Login type Select Manual or Automatic depending on the access point in use.
User name Key in the user name
Password Key in the password
Display terminal window Select Yes to do manual user authentication for intranet connections

Next, press Back twice and select POP3/IMAP4 connection settings.
