Adjusting arm length ⑨:
hPull out and/or push in arm.
The temple end is flexible and can be adjusted
5 mm in all directions.
Adjusting arm tilt (inclination):
hTurn thumb wheel ⑧.
This allows you to adjust the trial frame to
different ear heights and tilt it as required.
Intended use
The OCULUS Universal Trial Frame UB 4 is used for
subjective refraction. Only use OCULUS tls trial
lenses with a diameter of 38 mm that comply with
DIN EN ISO 9801.
Product specifications
The OCULUS Universal Trial Frame UB 4 complies
with DIN EN ISO 12867.

06 / 13Reading off vertex distance (VD) at the
sighting bars ⑧:
The transparent sighting bar has two scales. The
inner scale must be aligned with the outer scale for
a parallax-free reading of VD. The trial lens must be
in the front-most slot of the rear lens holder when
measuring VD.
Changing VD:
hSwivel rack ⑯. To do so, you must overcome a
slight resistance.
Adjusting resistance:
hAdjust the screw ④with a screwdriver.

Adjusting and reading PD:
hTurn the knob ⑦.
hTake PD reading from appropriate scale ⑤and
mark ④.

The polarizing filters are used for separating the
visual impressions of the left and right eye during
refraction. They are exclusively intended for use
with the OCULUS Universal Trial Frame UB 4 (item
no. 42500).
Polarizing filter (optional)
The instructions for using the polarizing filters
supplement the Instruction Manual of the Universal
Trial Frame UB 4. Please note, depending on the
device you need the linear OR cirular polarization
filter.

not needed.

Circular polarizing filters cannot be rotated.
Replace knobs and pad
Replace nose pad ⑫:
hPull off nose pad and mount new one.
Replace knobs (①,⑪,⑯&ⓑ):
hPull off knob and mount new one.

13/ 13Cleaning and care
hClean UB 4 and optional equipment when
necessary with a soft, lint-free cloth only.
hIn case of heavy soiling we recommend using
washing-up liquid on a moistened cloth.
hNever use aggressive, chlorine-containing,
abrasive or harsh detergents, alcohol, ether or
similar solvents.
hNever use microfibre cloths to clean the optical
plastic surfaces.
hAlways disinfect universal trial frame before
use.
Disinfection of optical plastic surfaces is not
recommended due to smearing.
For cleaning of optical plastic surfaces we
recommend:
Disposable Cleaning Swabs (SWAB-34087)
slightly wetted with isopropanol or spirit.
For disinfection of the trial frame we recommend
the products of: Schülke & Mayr GmbH.

Warranty
Our warranty conforms to prevailing legal regulations and
is effective from the date of delivery. It covers all types of
malfunctioning, as well as faults related to materials or
manufacture. All legitimate claims within the warranty
period will be met free of charge. This warranty shall not
cover cases of normal wear and tear, improper use or use of
non-OCULUS replacement parts.
