Caution
Handling the product without observing the
instructions that accompany a “Caution” symbol may
result in injury or property damage.
Warning
• Do not use the product in explosive or corrosive environments, in the
presence of flammable gases, locations subjected to splashing water, or
near combustibles.
• Assign qualified personnel the task of installing, inspecting and
troubleshooting the product.
• Turn off the power to a connected device before installing, inspecting or
troubleshooting the product.
Caution
• Do not use the flexible coupling beyond its specification.
• When an abnormality is noted, turn off the motor drive power immediately.
• To dispose of the flexible coupling, disassemble it into parts and
components as much as possible and dispose of individual
parts/components as industrial waste.
Checking the product
To verify that the unit you’ve purchased is the correct one, check the model
number. Report any incorrect or damaged item to the branch or sales office
from which you purchased the product.
Applicable motor
• Oriental motor’s stepping motor
• Oriental motor’s servo motor (Use the MCSK)
Installation
When installing the flexible coupling to the motor’s output shaft or load shaft,
tighten the screws with a torque wrench to the specified torque shown in the table.
For shafts with key
A key groove is provided on the flexible coupling hub of the MCS40,
MCS55 and MCS65 types. Be sure to use a key to install the flexible
coupling to a shaft with key. Tighten the screws with a torque wrench to the
specified torque shown in the table.
Note • Be careful not to damage the motor’s output shaft or
bearing when installing the flexible coupling.
• Prior to tightening each of the screws, apply an anaerobic
adhesive to prevent the screw from coming loose.
• Insert the motor’s output shaft and load shaft through the
entire length of the flexible coupling hub (insertion length:
L in the dimensions shown in the catalog). If the motor’s
output shaft and load shaft are pushed in beyond the
specified length, the two shafts will contact each other.
Alignment adjustment
After installing the flexible coupling, make adjustments and confirm that the
eccentricity, declination and end play do not exceed their respective
permissible values for misalignment, as shown in the table below.
If any such tolerance for misalignment is exceeded, vibration may occur or the
service life of the flexible coupling or motor bearing may be dramatically
reduced.
Eccentricity End play
Declination
Straight edge
Note It is recommended that the flexible coupling be adjusted to
keep the eccentricity, declination and end play to one-third
or less of their respective permissible values for
misalignment, thus ensuring stable functioning of the
flexible coupling and motor.
Use a dial gauge to ensure accurate alignment.
• Affix a dial gauge on one shaft.
• During rotation of the flexible coupling, read off the eccentricity and
declination based on run-out of the other hub at its outer circumference
and end face.

• Check for any unusual noises in the motor’s bearings (ball bearings) or
other moving parts.
• Inspect for misalignment between the motor’s output shaft and load shaft.
• Are any of the flexible coupling tightening screws loose?
