2. Safety instructions

of the SVP aseptic change-over valve. It is essential for this information to be
observed.
Failure to observe these instructions may cause malfunctions in the valve or
in its vicinity.
2.1. General
⇒SVP aseptic change-over valves from Pentair Südmo GmbH are manufactured in accordance with state-of-the-art standards and the recog-
nized safety rules. However, these SVP aseptic change-over valve may constitute a hazard if used by operating personnel improperly or for a
purpose other than the intended one. This may result in a risk to life and limb of the user or of third parties, or cause damage to the SVP asep-
tic change-over valve and other material propertyn.
⇒Each person concerned with installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of this SVP aseptic change-over valve must have read
and understood the complete operating instructions, and in particular all safety instructions.
⇒In addition to these operating instructions, the following are of course also valid:
pertinent accident prevention regulations
generally recognized safety rules
national regulations of the country of use
in-house work and safety regulations.
2.2. Maintenance
⇒Any maintenance and service work on the SVP aseptic change-over valves must be carried out by specially trained, qualified personnel only.
Training or instruction in accordance with the current safety standards.
For systems with explosion protection: training or instruction or authorization to carry out work on systems
subject to explosion hazards (observe ATEX regulations).

⇒Obtain information on possible risks that could be caused by residues of the operating medium and take appropriate measures if necessary
(safety gloves, safety goggles, etc.), before carrying out maintenance and service work on the SVP aseptic change-over valve.
⇒Prior to carrying out any maintenance and service work, make sure that:
the work is only carried out in a depressurized state and with the media supply shut off.
the SVP aseptic change-over valve and all piping elements leading to the valve have been drained and cleaned or flushed.
the fittings have cooled down.
the system cannot be started by a third person.
the pressure build-up which may form in sealed pipelines is counteracted.
disassembly - assembly of the SVP aseptic change-over valve are carried out according to the installation instructions (see chapter 7
"Disassembly - Assembly").
the power supply has been disconnected.
the SVP aseptic change-over valve is removed from the piping section, if possible.
⇒Avoid any working method which could impair the safety and function of the SVP aseptic change-over valve.
2.3. Modification of the SVP aseptic change-over valve
⇒ Operate the SVP aseptic change-over valve according to the designated use
and safety and hazard instructions.
⇒ Operate the SVP aseptic change-over valve in perfect technical condition on-
ly.
⇒ Modifications to the SVP aseptic change-over valve are not permitted.
2.4. SVP aseptic change-over valves with feedback
2.5. Cleaning, flushing, sterilization
⇒The operator of the plant in which the SVP aseptic diaphragm valve is installed must draw up operating instructions
so that all the information required for the operation of the valve is available to the operating and maintenance per-
sonnel.
⇒The start-up and operating personnel must wear protective clothing (gloves and safety goggles) during the clean-
ing, flushing and sterilization work.
2.6. Storage
⇒Store the valve in a dry place by room temperature protected against external influences.
⇒Keep away from direct solar radiation
⇒Prior to handling (disassembly of the body / activation of the actuators) temporarily store the valves in a dry place for
at least 24 hours at a temperature ≥ 5° C.
Don’t put fingers into check-back signal.
⇒ Accident risk.
Fingers can be crushed or cut off.

2.7. Place of use, Environment
⇒The described SVP aseptic change-over valves are primarily used in breweries, in the food and beverage industry
as well as in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry.
⇒The valves have to be operated in rooms with acid and caustic proof floors.
⇒The rooms of operation have to be equipped with lights, which enables at all time to read clearly the labels and se-
curity advices.
⇒The rooms of operation have to be free of dust.
⇒Do not leave the SVP aseptic change-over valves outdoors.
⇒Permissible ambient temperature 0° C to +55° C.
⇒The atmospheric circumstanced (Air temperature, Air moisture and air movement) in the operating rooms shall not
lead to freeze over the moveable parts.
2.8. Lifespan
⇒The foreseeable lifespan of the SVP aseptic vavles are 15 years..
⇒The maximum switching cycles of the SVP aseptic change-over valves are 500.000.
2.9. ATEX-usage
The operator of the SVP aseptic change-over valves has to make sure,
⇒ that max. allowable surface temperature gets not exceeded, due to hot me-
dia treatment.
⇒ that the ignition temperature gets not exceeded, due to hot media in the
pipework.
⇒ that the plant is grounded, where the SVP-aseptic change-over valves get
used.
The SVP aseptic change-over valve complies with the EC directives 2014/34/EU.
The applied standards which are used to demonstrate compliance with the Directives are listed in the EC Declaration
of Conformity. This may be requested from Pentair Südmo.
The specifications on the respective rating plate apply to the respective SVP aseptic change-over valve.

2.10. Operation
⇒ Never touch the valve or piping system when hot products are in pro-
cessing or during sterilization.
⇒ Observe strictly the technical data.
⇒ We cannot be held liable for an incorrect use of the valve

Use original spare parts only.
⇒ For original spare parts, refer to the enclosed spare parts list (see chapter
12 "Spare parts list").
⇒ Perfect functioning of the SVP aseptic change-over valve is only guaranteed
when using original spare parts.

If the valve contains liquids, emulsions or suspensions above their re-
spective evaporation temperature at atmospheric pressure, the switching
of the valve or a leakage due to a wear of the seal may lead to a sudden
escape of the complete contents of the pipe system in the form of vapor
into the work area; this may result in a risk of injury to the persons stay-
ing in the work area.
The operator of the valves has to make sure that the ignition temperature
gets not exceeded, due to hot media in the pipework.
If application-specific cleaning agents, other aggressive media or other prod-
ucts are used, make sure they are suitable for stainless steel used and for the
sealing material used and do not damage these materials.
If in doubt please contact the valve manufacturer.
The service life of the seals depends on:

3.6. CIP-Cleaning
⇒Inner chambers of the valve must be cleaned regularly.
⇒When selecting the detergent, please observe the following:
Do not use abrasive detergents.
Use only detergents that are suitable for seals and stainless steel.
⇒Do not exceed the concentrations and temperatures recommended by the detergent
manufacturer.
⇒Observe the safety data sheets issued by the detergent manufacturers!
⇒Non-compliance with these instructions will exempt the manufacturer from any war-
ranty and liability.

Use only calibrated hose pipes with an external diameter of 6 mm or 1/4" as well as 8 mm or
5/16" (tolerance +0.05/-0.1).
⇒Cut the hose pipe only with a special hose cutter.
⇒The length of the hose must be dimensioned in a way that prevents buckling of the hose.
Even single buckling of the hose damages it permanently.
⇒Insert the air hose into the connector and fasten it. Avoid diagonal pull on connector.
⇒
The drive chamber of pneumatic actuators
with spring-return-function needs to be venti-
lated in order to avoid any undesirable pres-
sure build-up during the switching process.
⇒System Operators must ensure that no flu-
ids, e.g. external cleaning and disinfection
chemicals, condensate water or product me-
dia can enter into/thru the actuator’s ventila-
tion plug.
Any fluid ingress into the actuator can
cause potential functionality
interference.

6. Welding and assembly instructions
6.1. General remarks
Welding works have to be effected only by approved qualified personnel

Determine and define the connection axes before starting installation work. Observe the installation dimensions specified
in the dimensional drawings.
Ensure that there is sufficient space available for both operation and maintenance, which may include removal.

Make sure that the fittings and piping are not subjected to tensile or compressive stresses.

⇒Make sure that enough forming gas arrives at the welding seam.

7. Dismantling – Assembly
Assemble the SVP valve in general after heaving read the safety instructions (see chapter 7.1. "Preparatory measures
for dismounting - mounting").
7.1. Preparatory measures for dismounting - mounting
Please always take the following steps before loosening the valve connections and clamp connection on the valve hous-
ing:
⇒ Fitting of the SVP aseptic change-over valves may only be carried out by
specially trained, qualified personnel.
Training or instruction in accordance with the current safety standards.
For systems with explosion protection:
training or instruction or authorization to carry out work on systems subject
to explosion hazards (observe ATEX regulations).
⇒ Obtain information on possible risks that could be caused by residues of the
operating media and take appropriate measures if necessary (safety gloves,
safety goggles, etc.), before carrying out maintenance and service work on
the SVP aseptic change-over valve.
⇒ Before disconnecting the valve connections and the flange connection of the
valve housings, make sure that
this work is only carried out in a depressurized state and with the media
supply shut off.
the SVP aseptic change-over valve and all piping elements leading to the
valve have been drained and cleaned or flushed.
the fittings have cooled down.
the system cannot be started by a third person.
the pressure build-up which may form in sealed pipelines is counteracted.
disassembly - assembly of the SVP aseptic change-over valve are carried
out according to the assembly instructions.
when dismantling the control unit, the closing spring is preloaded with auxil-
iary assembly air. To actuate the valves in the manual mode, the supply
voltage and/or electrical signal must be applied.
when dismounting the control unit, the closing spring is to be preloaded. In
case of non-compliance there is a risk of injury when removing the clamp
connection, due to the released spring tension of the actuator.
Secure SVP aseptic change-over valves against signaling, voltage and sig-
nal cut-off, operation and actuation.
the power supply has been disconnected.
the SVP aseptic change-over valve is removed from the piping section, if
possible.

⇒ Cordon off assembly area.
⇒ Ensure that the assembly area remains cordoned off while work is being per-
formed.
