Safety Instructions
System design, installation, commissioning and maintenance must be carried out only by personnel who
have the necessary training and experience. They must carefully read this safety information and the
instructions in this Guide and follow all information regarding transport, storage, installation and use of the
VFD-4000 series, including the specified environmental limitations.
Do not perform any flash test or voltage withstand test on the VFD-4000 series
Any electrical measurements required should be carried out with the VFD-4000 series disconnected
Electric shock hazard! Disconnect and ISOLATE the VFD-4000 series before attempting any work on
it. High voltages are present at the terminals and within the drive for up to 10 minutes after
disconnection of the electrical supply. Always ensure by using a suitable multimeter that no voltage is
present on any drive power terminals prior to commencing any work.
Where supply to the drive is through a plug and socket connector, do not disconnect until 10 minutes
have elapsed after turning off the supply.
Ensure correct earthing connections and cable selection as per defined by local legistation or codes.
They drive may have a leakage current of greater than 3.5mA; furthermore the earth cable must be sufficient to carry
the maximum supply fault current which normally will be limited by the fuses or MCB. Suitably rated fuses or MCB
should be fitted in the main supply to the drivem according to any local legistration.
The level of integrity offered by the VFD-4000 series control input functions – for example stop/
start, forward and maximum speed is not sufficient for use in safety-critical applications without
independent channels of protection. All applications where malfunction could cause injury or loss of
life must be subject to a risk assessment and further protection provided where needed.
The driven motor can start at power up if the enable input signal is present.
The STOP function does not remove potentially lethal high voltages. ISOLATE the drive and wait 10 minutes before starting
any work on it. Never carry out any work on the Drive, Motor or Motor cable whilst the input power is still applied.
Do not activate the automatic ault reset function on any systems whereby this may cause a potentially dangerous situation.
When mounting the drive, ensure that sufficient cooling is provided.
Do not carry out drilling operations with the drive in place, dust and swaf from drilling may lead to damage.
The entry of conductive or flammable foreign bodies should be prevented. Flammable material should not
be placed close to the drive. Relative humidity must be less than 95% (non-condensing).
Ensure that the supply voltage, frequency and single phase input correspond to the rating of the VFD-4000 as delivered.
Never connect the mains power supply to the Output terminals U, V, W.
Do not install any type of automatic switchgear between the drive and the motor

VFD-4000
VFD-4000 series is intended for professional incorporation into complete equipment or systems as part of a
fixed installation. If installed incorrectly, it may present a safety hazard. The VFD-4000 series uses high
voltages and currents, carries a high level of stored electrical energy, and is used to control mechanical
plant that may cause injury. Close attention is required to system design and electrical installation to avoid
hazards in either normal operation or in the event of equipment malfunction.
Only qualified electricians are allowed to install and maintain this product.
The VFD-4000 series can be programmed to operate the driven motor at speeds above or below the speed
achieved when connecting the motor directly to the mains supply. Obtain confirmation from the
manufactures of the motor and driven machine about suitability for operation over the intended speed range
prior to machine start up.

*Operation Mode: Press the “STOP” button for a duration of 3 seconds to change
AUTO mode or Manual mode*
Pre-cautions when setting up the master pump;
1. Make sure that the RS-485 wires are correctly connected between the VFD-4000 inverters.
2. The drive that the sensor is connected to should always be designated as the Master pump
and the rest of the drives within the booster system should be set as the slaves in sequence.
To set the mode from either Auto and Manual, please follow the instructions below;
1) Auto Mode (Constant Pressure)
Press the ”STOP” button for a duration of 3 seconds. The Master pump will be indicated as
NUMBER 1 on the upper right-hand corner of the screen. The same procedure should be performed
to identify the slave pumps. Slave pumps will be indicated with the number 2~5 in sequence.
*Caution: the SEN or CON Error will occur if the sensor connection is incorrect*
2) Manual Mode (Constant Speed)
Once the manual mode is set, a letter “C” will appear on the upper-right of the screen
In MANUAL MODE, change the constant speed required by pressing button and press
the “RUN” button once the desired Hz is selected.
Note: If the mode cannot be changed, please check if the sensor is properly connected.*

Parallel Operation
The VFD-4000 can parallel operate up to maximum 4 pumps.
To set Parallel operation, please change the operation method to the auto operation
mode.
1. Setting up the MASTER pump:
Press the “STOP” button for a duration of 3 seconds. Number 1 shall appear on the top right-hand corner
of the screen, which is an indication that the master pump was set-up correctly.

*Note: Please check if the sensor is properly connected to the VFD-4000 before designating the
MASTER pump*
2. Setting up the SLAVE pump:
Press the “STOP” button for a duration of 3 seconds and the slave should state “2”. Same
sequence and procedure is identical for up to 5 pumps. Make sure that the RS-485 is
connected properly between the VFD-4000.
*Option: The VFD-4000 can be connected to the PPC-M70T for system monitoring
and PENTAIR IOT applications*

(B 01) Run Deviation: Setting the run deviation. When “Setup pressure =4.0 Bar” and “Run
deviation = -0.3 Bar”, the pump starts to operate when the current pressure is 3.7 Bar.
(B 02) Sensor Type: Setting the sensor range on the suction.
(B 03) Sensor Range: Adjusting the sensor value when the readings on the pressure
gauge differs from the pressure sensor.
(B 04) Low Pressure: Setting the low-pressure limit.
If the operation pressure is lower than the set pressure, the ‘LPS’ alarm will occur
and stop the operation of the pump.
(B 05) Stop Time of Low Pressure: Setting the stop pressure.
If the pump operates below the low pressure, the operation of the pump will stop
according to the set value.
(B 06) High Pressure: Setting the high-pressure limit. If the operation pressure is higher
than the set pressure, the pump stops to operating and the alarm occurs.
(B 07) P value: It is relevant to “P”(Proportional Constant) out of PID control parameters.
This articles sets the deviation ratio for the target value. When the value decreases,
the reaction speed slows down since the scope of control narrows. Increased value may
speed up the reaction speed, although hunting might occur.

*JOCKEY PUMP OPERATION*
Operation sequence of the Jockey**
A jockey pump operation consist of 1 small pump and 2~3 big pumps. The
small pump will always start first and stop last. The main purpose of the
jockey pump operation is to operate the small pump during off-peak hours
and to maximize the big pump operation during peak hour to maximize the
energy efficiency.

2) Peak hour: A(100%)- Large pump(B or C: RUN), Small pump A(STOP)

(B 08) I value: It is relevant to “I”(Integral Constant) out of the PID control parameters.
The compensation value for the increased amount of the target value.
(B 09) D value: It is relevant to “D”(Different Constant) out of PID control parameters.
The compensation value for the increased amount of the I value.
(B 10) Operation Method: Booster operation / Jockey operation.
(B 11) Simultaneous Operation Count: Setting up the number of pumps in parallel operation
(B 12) Restart Time:
Setting the restart delay time.
The system will operate only after the set time(B12) to avoid unecessary system
operation. This function is utilized to fill the water tank once the water drops to
a certatin level and tank needs to be re-filled.
(B 15) Output compensation: If the control range is out of range, the inverter output
value will automatically increase to prevent the pump from hunting.
The default value should not be adjusted as this may cause problems during operation.
(C 00) Stop Frequency: Setting the frequency to stop the system
(C 01) Motor Direction: Direction of the motor. CW or CCW.
(C 02) Low Current: This function is set automatically to 60% of the rated current
indicated on the inverter name-plate.
* The set value can be changed manually if required*
(C 03) Stop Time of Low Current: If the inverter operates below Low Current set value,
the inverter will stop after the Stop Time of Low Current.
(C 04) Emg Run Frequency: Setting the maximum operation frequency in the emergency situation.
(C 05) Power Failure Recovery: The original default values will be saved and restart to original
state after a power outage or failure.
- Stop: operation stops after electric fault occurs.

- Previous State: To recover the operating status (Setting values)
before the fault.

The setting value should be same or higher than the minimum frequency.
