1.1 Labeling of warning notes
This symbol indicates hazards that could lead to personal injury.

1.2 Qualification of users
The use of products described in this user manual is oriented exclusively to:
– Qualified electricians or persons instructed by them. The users must be familiar with the
relevant safety concepts of automation technology as well as applicable standards and
other regulations.
– Qualified application programmers and software engineers. The users must be familiar

1.3 Field of application of the product
1.3.1 Product changes
Changes or modifications to hardware and software of the device are not permitted.
Incorrect operation or modifications to the device can endanger your safety or damage the
device. Do not repair the device yourself. If the device is defective, please contact

1.4 Safety regulations and installation notes
Installation, operation, and maintenance may be carried out only by qualified electricians.
Follow the specified installation instructions. The applicable specifications and safety
directives (including the national safety directives), as well as the general technical
regulations, must be observed during installation and operation. The technical data should
be taken from the packaging instructions and the certificates (conformity assessment, other
possible approvals).
Opening the device or making changes to it is not permitted. Do not repair the device
yourself, but replace it with an equivalent device. Repairs may be carried out only by the
manufacturer. The manufacturer is not liable for any damage caused by violation of the
prescribed regulations.
The IP20 degree of protection (EN 60529) of the device is intended for a clean and dry
environment.
Do not subject the device to any load that exceeds the prescribed limits.
The device is not designed for use in environments with danger of dust explosions.

2 Description
The GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9 provides a simple way to integrate PROFIBUS DP devices into a
PROFINET system. The GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9 supports up to 31 slaves connected directly
or a maximum of 125 slaves using repeaters.
Connect a PROFINET controller to the GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9 gateway via Ethernet cable.
Connect PROFIBUS DP slaves to the serial port of the GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9. The GW
PN/DP 1E/1DB9 gateway functions as a PROFINET IO device and a PROFIBUS DP-V0
and V1 master.
PROFIBUS DP slaves may be configured through the GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9 gateway using
an FDT/DTM container, such as PACTware.
The GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9 facilitates communication between a PROFINET controller and
PROFIBUS DP. The GSDML generator will export the GSDML files necessary for importing
into the PROFINET engineering environment. Once the GSDML files are imported to the
PROFINET engineering environment, the GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9 may be added to the project
and the PROFIBUS slaves may be connected to the corresponding slots. The PROFINET
slots 0 and 1 are reserved and the subsequent slots are labeled PROFIBUS address 0,
address 1, etc.
The GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9 initiates PROFIBUS communication when either an application
relationship (AR) is established from a PROFINET controller or when a supervisor AR is
established from a DTM used in an FDT/DTM container, such as PACTware. After the
initialization of the PROFIBUS communication, the GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9 will stop cyclic
PROFIBUS communication upon loss of the controller or supervisor AR.

3 Installation
3.1 Mounting
To mount on a DIN rail:
1. Place the device onto a DIN rail from above (A) so that the upper housing keyway hooks
onto the top edge of the DIN rail.
2. Hold the device by the housing cover and carefully push the device toward the
mounting surface (B).
3. After the foot is snapped onto the DIN rail, verify that it is attached securely.

To remove:
1. Use a suitable screwdriver to release the locking mechanism (A) on the snap-on foot of
the device.
2. Hold on to the device by the housing cover and carefully tilt it upward (B).
3. Remove the device from the DIN rail (C).

3.2 Data interface
3.2.1 Connecting the RS-485 cable
The D-SUB9 port connects to a PROFIBUS DP network and functions as a master.
NOTE:
Observe the polarity of the RS-485 cable.
Install SUBCON-PLUS-PROFIB/90/PG/SC termination plugs (Order number 2313708) at
the furtherest ends of the PROFIBUS DP network.

3.2.2 Connecting the Ethernet cable
The GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9 has an Ethernet interface on the front in RJ45 format, to which
only twisted-pair cables with an impedance of 100 can be connected. The data
transmission rate is either 10 or 100 Mbps. The GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9 supports the auto
negotiation function for automatic selection of the transmission speed, as well as an
automatic crossover feature for the selection of line or crossover cabling.
Push the Ethernet cable with the crimped RJ45 connector into the GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9 until
it engages with a click.
3.3 Connecting the power supply
CAUTION:
Incorrect connection may result in damage to equipment and/or serious personal injury.
Only qualified personnel may connect the power, start up, and operate this device.
According to the safety instructions in this text, qualified personnel are persons who are
authorized to start up, to ground, and to mark devices, systems, and equipment according
to the standards of safety technology. In addition, these persons must be familiar with all
warning instructions and maintenance measures in this text.
Disregarding this warning may result in damage to equipment and/or serious personal
injury.

The device can be connected to a single power source. The power supply is connected by
way of a COMBICON plug-in screw terminal blocks (24 V and 0 V).

4 Configuration and startup
4.1 Default settings
The default network settings of the GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9 are:
IP address: 192.168.254.254
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 0.0.0.0
However, discover and basic configuration protocol (DCP) settings will overwrite the default
settings.
The default settings are invoked whenever the system is reset.
4.2 Web-based management
The user-friendly, web-based management (WBM)_ interface may be used to manage the
GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9 from anywhere in the network using a standard browser.
Comprehensive configuration and diagnostic functions, including a wide range of
information about the device itself, the current parameters, and the operating state, are
clearly displayed.
4.3 Login
To log in:
1. Set the IP address of the connected PC to the subnetwork of the GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9.
For example, IP = 192.168.254.10, subnetwork = 255.255.255.0.
2. Open a web browser and enter the IP address of the GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9 in the
“Address” field (default = 192.168.254.254).

If the web server does not load, first check the IP parameters of the PC. If everything is set
correctly, check to see if there are any proxy settings loaded in the web browser. The proxy
setting must be set to “Load automatically” or “Deactivated” to properly establish
communication.
Discover and basic configuration protocol (DCP) settings will overwrite the IP address and
the device name configured in the WBM interface.
Enter the credentials to access the web server configuration pages. The default credentials
are:
User name: Admin
Password: admin
4.4 Home page
After login, the “Home” page appears. From the “Home” page, the basic settings of the GW
PN/DP 1E/1DB9 can be configured by clicking on the appropriate settings tab.

4.5 General settings
To view and edit the general settings:
1. Click the “General Settings” tab.

System and device identification can be viewed and changed.
Device Identification
Device Name Displays the PROFINET device name. This field is set using
DCP and is not editable in the web based management.
Contact Enter the name of a contact person, group, or department
responsible for this device.
System Time and Date
Manual Enter the time and date in the appropriate fields.
Use PC Clock Transfers the current time and date from a connected PC to
the GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9.
Use NTP Server The time and date are downloaded from the server(s)
specified in the “Time Server 1” and “Time Server 2” fields.
The “Time Zone” field must also be specified for the time to
display correctly.
Click the “Apply” button to save the configuration.

4.6 LAN settings
The “LAN Settings” page displays the MAC address. The IP address must be set using DCP
settings.

4.7 Diagnostics
The “Diagnostics” page displays the PROFINET diagnostics and PROFIBUS live list.

System errors This displays the number of system errors detected.
Examples of system errors include:
– the port MAC address information not available.
– errors that occurred when accessing Ethernet interface.
– invalid application relationship number.
– invalid module, submodule, slot, or subslot number.

Station Address PROFIBUS addresses
Master Address The PROFIBUS master related to the PROFIBUS slave. A
Master Address of 255 indicates a slave did not exchange
data with any master station.
Real Ident No. Ident number of the PROFIBUS device. If the Real Ident No.
shows 0xFFFF, the PROFIBUS slave is not available on the
segment or may be assigned to an incorrect slot in the
PROFINET project.
The Real Ident No. must match the Proj. Ident No.
Proj. Ident No. Ident number of the PROFIBUS device in the GSD file.
The Real Ident No. must match the Proj. Ident No.

Status Master: PROFIBUS master
Slave ok: PROFIBUS communication is configured properly
and data is transferred between the master and slave.
Slave unused: A PROFIBUS slave that is discovered on the
network, but is not included in the project. Be certain that the
PROFIBUS slave is assigned to the correct slot in the PLC
project.
Slave projected, unavailable: A PROFIBUS slave that is
defined in the PLC, but is not on the network. Double check
the PROFIBUS segment cabling and be certain that the
PROFIBUS slave is assigned to the correct slot in the PLC
project.
PROFIBUS bus parameter
Master Address Displays the PROFIBUS master address of the GW PN/DP
1E/1DB9.
Master Address Displays the PROFIBUS master address of the GW PN/DP
1E/1DB9.

4.8 Device maintenance
Click the “Device Maintenance” tab to access the available maintenance functions of the
GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9.
4.8.1 Passwords
The GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9 uses an administrator-level password. The administrator level
user may make changes to the configuration.

To change passwords:
1. From the “Device Maintenance” page, click the “Passwords” tab.
2. To change a password, enter the current password and the new password (twice) in the
appropriate fields.
3. Click the “Apply Changes” button to save changes.
The default user name and password are:
User name: Admin
Password: admin
The user name is fixed and cannot be modified.The “Password” field is case sensitive.

4.8.2 Restore defaults
The “Restore Defaults” page provides the ability to return the GW PN/DP 1E/1DB9 to the
factory default settings.

1. From the “Device Maintenance” page, click the “Restore Defaults” tab.
2. Check the “Check the box to confirm…”, and then click the “Apply” button.
The IP address changes to the factory default and may require modification to prevent
multiple devices on the network from trying to use the same address.
4.8.3 Log files
The log files can be used to aid in troubleshooting.

1. From the “Device Maintenance” page, click the “Log Files” tab to review the log files.
2. Click the “Syslog” button to open the file in a text editor. All configuration changes made
to the system are recorded.
4.8.4 Update firmware
Occasionally, a new version of firmware may be provided to enhance operation of the GW
PN/DP 1E/1DB9.

To install a new version of firmware:
1. Download the firmware to a local drive on the connected computer.
2. From the “Device Maintenance” page, click the “Update Firmware” tab.
3. Click the “Choose File” button, and then navigate to the file in the “Browse” dialog box.
4. Highlight the file to select it, and then click the “Close” button.
5. Click the “Apply Changes” button to install the firmware.
NOTE:
Ensure that a reliable power connection is available during the firmware update. Do not
restart the module or disconnect the Ethernet cable during this process.
When the firmware is updated, the device configuration is maintained.
