OVERVIEW
Thank you for choosing us as your scanner supplier.
Like all of our products, your new scanner is thoroughly tested and backed by our
reputation for unsurpassed dependability and customer satisfaction. We hope you will
continue to turn to us for additional quality products as your computing needs and
interests grow.
This manual explains the basic operations and handling of the scanner. This standalone
network document scanner requires no PC to operate. All operations and configurations
can be done directly on the device. It is the simplest one-touch scan operation to
streamline documents, files, and data to a wide range of destination.
What is eScan Square9 GlobalSearch® Network Document Scanner?
eScan Square9 GlobalSearch®network document scanner is optimized for users to
insert index data straight to its respective Square9 GlobalSearch®database during the
scanning process. The devices can store multiple accounts and choose to scan to
respective database based on each individual user’s preference, coup with password
protection to increase user authentication and protection.

eScan Square9 GlobalSearch®Network Document Scanner provides administrator
control to:
Account Management- Control user’s accessibility to configurations, system
setting, and account usability.
Job Button Management- Control each button’s configuration and profiles with
password protected function for each and every button individually.
HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE
This User’s Guide provides instructions and illustrations on how to install and operate
your scanner.
Before you start installing your scanner, check the box contents to make sure all parts
are included. If any items are damaged or missing, please contact the vendor where you
purchased your scanner or our customer service directly.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Warning
Before using this device, please read the following
important information to eliminate or reduce any
possibility of causing damage and personal injury.
1. Usage, the product is for indoor use in dry locations. Moisture condensation may
occur inside this device and cause malfunction at these conditions:
when this device is moved directly from a cold to a warm location;
after a cold room is heated;
when this device is placed in a damp room.
To avoid the moisture condensation, you are recommended to follow the procedure:
i. Seal this device in a plastic bag for it to adapt to room conditions.
ii. Wait for 1-2 hours before removing this device from the bag.
2. Do use the AC adapter provided with the scanner. Use of other AC adapter may lead
to malfunction.
3. Keep the space around the AC adapter clear in case you need to quickly unplug the
AC adapter during emergencies.
4. Damaged wire could cause fire or electrical shock. Keep the power cord straight and
without being twisted, bended, or scraped.
5. Unplug this device if you don’t need to use for a certain period of time, such as, during
night or long weekend, to avoid any risks of causing fire.
6. Do not attempt to disassemble the scanner. There is danger of an electrical shock
and opening your scanner will void your warranty.
7. Be sure not to bump or knock the scanner glass as it is fragile and could break.
8. Do not subject the scanner to excessive vibration. It may damage the internal
components.

SCANNER OVERVIEW
1. STACKER—Keeps the paper in place. Extend it in case of longer paper.
2. PANEL UNIT—ADF cover with the touch panel.
3. TOUCH PANEL—Use this touch panel to operate the scanner.
4. PANEL UNIT OPEN LEVER—Opens the panel unit. Pull it to open the panel unit
when you need to clear paper jam or clean the scanner.
5. PAPER WIDTH SLIDER—Adjusts the paper width slider for the paper size you are
using.
6. PAPER CHUTE—Helps keep the paper in place. Install the paper chute before using
the scanner.
7. PAPER CHUTE EXTENSION—Extends to hold longer paper.
8. ADF (AUTOMATIC DOCUMENT FEEDER)—Automatically feeds a stack of
documents for scanning.
9. SCREEN SAVER BUTTON—Press this button to enter the panel screen saver mode
and you may press this button again to wake up the touch panel from power saving.
10. LED—Indicates the scanner status.

12. USB PORT—Connect a USB flash drive or other USB device.

13. POWER SWITCH—Use this to turn the scanner ON or OFF.
14. POWER RECEPTOR—Connects the scanner to a standard AC power outlet by the
included AC adapter.
15. ETHERNET PORT—Connects the scanner to a port on the Ethernet hub by the
Ethernet cable.
16. USB PORT—Connect a USB flash drive or other USB device.
17. USB PORT—Connects the scanner to a USB port on your computer.
NETWORK ENVIRONMENT
Basic knowledge of network setup and configuration will be helpful for you to operate
this scanner. When you are using this scanner in a corporate environment, you may
need to consult your network administrator or ISP.
The scanner requires a DHCP server. A DHCP server automatically provides all
devices within a network environment with IP addresses, so there is no need to
manually set an IP address for the scanner.
Please make sure there is anactive Internet connection while using the scanner. The
scanner requires access to the Internet to retrieve the date and time.
When saving scanned documents to a computer or mobile device, the scanner and
the target device must be on the same segment of the network.
The actual wireless data transmission speed varies depending on the wireless LAN
environment in which you use this device. Other electrical devices (e.g. microwave
oven), a large distance, obstruction, or interferences between the participating
devices and the wireless access point/router can cause the data transmission to slow
down or not be possible at all.

CHAPTER I. INSTALLING THE SCANNER
Before installing your scanner, please verify that you have all of the proper
components. A list of the package contents is provided in the “Box Contents” section of
this guide.
INSTALLING AND SETTING UP THE SCANNER
Please follow the step-by-step procedures described below to install the Plustek
scanner.
Attention
Choose a Proper Site First!
Always place your scanner on a level,
smooth and strong surface before
proceeding the scanner setup or any
scanning task.
Tilted or uneven surface may cause paper-
feeding errors, scanner damage or personal
injury.
Avoid using the scanner in a dusty
environment. Dust particles and other foreign
objects may damage the unit.

Step 1. Installing the Paper Chute
1. Open the panel unit by pulling the lever, and get the paper chute ready.
2. Install the paper chute by aligning and inserting the tabs of the paper chute into their
slots on the scanner.
3. Close the panel unit by pushing it back down until it snaps back into place.

Step 2. Connecting the Scanner
Attention
Please make sure the scanner is turned OFF
before you plug or unplug the scanner power
adapter.
1. Plug the AC adapter into the scanner’s power receptor .
2. Attach the power cable to the AC adapter.
3. Plug the other end of the AC adapter into a standard AC power outlet.
4. (Optional) Plug the end of the Ethernet cable

MAIN SCREEN
Configurations
Create accounts, job buttons and scanning profiles, as well as configure system
settings.
Job Button
Job buttons created are displayed directly on the interface. Each page contains six
job buttons, eachgroup contains a maximum of twelve buttons. Swipe right/left to view
and access. For new users, refer to Create and Add a New Job Button.
Groups
Tap to view full list and swipe / tap to access a particular group. Groups can
conveniently assist users to categorize job buttons (e.g. by departments, people,
scanning type, or more) and is displayed in alphabetical order. Each group contains
a maximum of twelve job buttons. It is recommended to create no more than 10
groups per device to ensure smooth operation.
Ethernet and WiFi
Ethernet and WiFi indicator signals connection availability. It is strongly advice to
connect via Ethernet for stability and data transmit speed. To configure Internet
setting, please refer to Ethernet and WiFi.
Power Management
Schedule daily automatic reboot for greater stability and faster performance.
Configure a time, during off peak schedule to allow the network scanner to reboot
and flush temporary memory data, permitting the scanner to run faster, more
efficiently.

CREATE A NEW JOB BUTTON
Select the login method and add an account by tapping on and enter information
as shown on ‘New Account’ interface. Accounts created are show on ‘Select
Account’ menu
Add job
Create job buttons, by tapping on ⊕button. Enter Job Name, Group (or Owner),
and optional password can be setup for button access control.When setting is completed
tap ‘Next’.
Job Button Configuration
Tap on scan settings to configure respective job button’s scanning profile. (e.g.
simplex/duplex, DPI, color/gray-scale mode, naming of documents and etc.). Enable 
desired destination and configure accordingly.

SCAN SETTINGS
Tap the checkbox in the ‘Selectable’ column to enable the respective settings
adjustable in the user’s/Operator’s interface.
User/Operator can adjust the selected scan settings from the administrator viewin the
User’s/Operator’s interface prior to each scanning batch.
Note:
When no checkbox is selected. User/Operator can only scan the batch of scans
according to default settings.
Slide for more scan settings functions. Please note that some features requires
you to enable and configure additional settings.
Preview
Enable Preview and Edit Mode to review the images created from the batch of scans.
User may rotate images, continue scanning, double tap on the image to crop and make
edits. When scanning in Multi-Page PDF/TIFF, splitting files can be done manually by
tapping between the scan images.
File Name
File Name for the scan documents can be preconfigure under ‘File Name’ interface.
Each document can be named according to the predefine settings via 12 barcode
types, date, time, serial number, or manually enter during the scanning process.

Enable Date / Time/ Serial Number to display the date in the file name. Select the
desired format of Date / Time/ Serial Number in the following dialog. Note: Please
make sure there is an active internet connection before you power on the scanner. The
scanner requires access to the internet to set the device date and time.
Scan Mode
Simplex/Duplex: Tap to switch between Simplex (scanning one side of the document)
/Duplex (scanning both front and back side of the document).

Color Mode
Switch Color Mode in the popup dialog. Available color modes: Color, Gray and Black
& White. Tap the OK button to confirm the settings and to exit this dialog.
Select Color to scan color documents. Color scan produces the largest file size.
Select Gray to scan documents containing line graphs or black and white texts. This
scanning produces an image of up to 256 shades of gray.
Select Black & White to scan document containing purely text, pencil, or ink sketch.
This scan mode produces the smallest file size.
Quality
Image Quality is measured in pixels-per-inch, dpi, refers to resolution. The higher
resolutions result in more detail in the scan and greater file sizes. Select the desired
QUALITY in the popup dialog. Available dpi: 100dpi (Lower), 200dpi (Standard),
300dpi (Good), 400dpi (Better), and 600dpi (Best).
Size
Tap to select a suitable document size from the list for the scan task. The available
document sizes are within the scanner's range of minimum and maximum item size.
Select Long Paper to enable support of paper sizes up to the scanner maximum
(200”). When select Auto, the scanner will automatically crop within (8.5” x 12.5”)
range.

Format
Select the file saving format in the popup dialog. Available file formats: JPG, PDF, TIFF,
PNG, Multi-Page PDF and Multi-Page TIFF. Tap the OK button to confirm the settings
or tap Cancel to exit this dialog.
Tap to enable PDF/A function to preserve the static visual appearance of electronic
documents over time, which are self-contained, self-describing, and more device-
independent. To ensure that the digital PDF documents remain readable and accessible
for long -term.
For extra protection, Encryption can be configure on the same interface as well.
Providing optional features to Allow Print/ Edit/ or Copy of the scanned document.
Compress-Level
The lower the compression rate, the higher quality of the scan, resulting to a larger file.
Move the Compression quality slider left (low) or right (high) to adjust.
