Feature Specification
user is rated at 90 lbs (41 kgs) and the maximum weight is 400 lbs
(181.5 kgs).
The speed of the steps is controlled by the resistance brake (EMS
brake). The resistance brake keeps the stairs from going faster
than the console target SPM.
Dismounting and Offloading
• Dismounting – the user completely takes off their weight from
the Stairclimber, and the stairs slowly come to a stop.
• Offloading – the user takes some weight off the stairs, so there
is not enough weight to maintain the speed and the stairs slow
down. Some speed can still be maintained during an offload situ-
ation. When the exerciser returns more than 90 lbs on the stairs
(reloads), the speed will return to the target SPM.
During an offload situation the SPM display will show the target
speed if the SPM is within 10 SPM of target or will show the actual
speed if it is more than 10 SPM from the target speed. If the SPM
slows to much, the machine will go into pause mode.
If the user attempts to make SPM changes during an offload con-
dition, the target SPM will be set to the actual SPM of the unit. The
user will be unable to make target SPM changes until enough
weight has been applied to the stairs for the actual and target SPM
to be within 5 SPM. If a workout has preprogrammed SPM
changes, the target SPM will continue to change.
The rate of speed change that occurs with offloading and reload-
ing will be controlled at a linear rate and not immediately returned
to the previously set target SPM.
Drive Belt Replace-
ment
The drive belt must be replaced every 39 million steps of use.
A belt replacement notification message will show prior to reach-
ing the 39 million step interval. The machine will be disabled
"out-of-service" if the drive belt has not been replaced.
Obstruction Sensor
There is an Obstruction "OBS1" sensor located at the bottom of
the stairs. There is an IR2emitter sensor on the left side and an IR
receiver sensor on the right side. When an obstruction is detected
(blocked IR beam), the workout is paused, and an
OBSTRUCTION DETECTED" message is shown. The workout
will resume when the obstruction is removed.

2Infrared Radiation: Electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths longer than those of visible
light. It is therefore invisible to the human eye. IR is generally understood to encompass
wavelengths from the nominal red edge of the visible spectrum around 700 nanometers (fre-
quency 430 THz), to 1 millimeter (300 GHz).
