IMPORTANT NOTES
Before connecting and using this paging microphone, please read this instruction manual
carefully and keep it on hand for future reference. The manual is to be considered an
integral part of this product and must accompany it when changing ownership as a
reference for correct installation and use as well as for the safety precautions.
RCF S.p.A. will not assume any responsibility for the incorrect installation and / or use
of this product.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
According to EN 54-16 standard (‘access level 2’), paging microphones shall be only
accessible by persons having a specic responsibility for safety and who are trained and
authorized to operate in the following conditions: quiescent, voice alarm, fault warning
and disablement.
1. All the precautions, in particular the safety ones, must be read with special attention,
as they provide important information.
2. Make sure all connections have been made correctly before switching all devices on.
Do not connect / disconnect the paging microphone when the system is operating.
3. Protect paging microphone cables from damage and assure they are positioned where
these cannot be stepped on or crushed by objects.
4. Do not put the paging microphone into water (or another liquid), do not throw it.
5. Never attempt to carry out any operations, modications or repairs.
If the paging microphone does not work properly, contact your authorized service centre.
6. Should the paging microphone emit any strange odour or even smoke, turn the sound
system off immediately and disconnect it.
7. RCF S.p.A. strongly recommends the sound system installation is only made by
professional qualied installers (or specialised rms), who can certify it according to the
regulations in force.
The entire audio system must comply with the current standards and regulations regarding
electrical systems.
8. Mechanical and electrical factors need to be considered when installing a professional
audio system (in addition to those which are strictly acoustic, such as sound pressure,
angles of coverage, frequency response, etc.).
9. Do not point the microphone at near loudspeakers, in order to avoid feedback.
10. Hearing loss
Exposure to high sound levels can cause permanent hearing loss. The acoustic pressure
level that leads to hearing loss is different from person to person and depends on the
duration of exposure.
To prevent potentially dangerous exposure to high levels of acoustic pressure,anyone who
is exposed to these levels should use adequate protection devices.
When a transducer capable of producing high sound levels is being used, it is necessary
to wear ear plugs or protective earphones.
11. To prevent inductive effects from causing hum, noise and a bad system operating,
paging microphone cables should not be laid together with other electric cables (mains)
and loudspeaker lines.
12. Keep the paging microphone far from any excessive heat source.
13. Do not use solvents, alcohol, benzene or other volatile substances for cleaning the
external parts. Just use a dry cloth.

DESCRIPTION
BM 9804 is a desktop paging microphone exclusively dedicated for the RCF
DXT 9000 system.
It can be directly connected to a main unit (i.e. MU 9186, MX 9502, MX 9504)
through a four-pair J-type re-rated cable.
It is possible to link up to sixteen BM 9804 paging microphones (or alterna-
tively, the BM 9802 model, which has a numeric keyboard) to each main unit
bus (total: max. 32 paging microphones).
Their conguration (in terms of access) can be set by the dedicated PC sof-
tware.
Its front panel includes three buttons that can be set (by using the dedicated
PC software) to:
-Select zones or zone groups.
-Recall presets.
-Increase / Decrease the background music volume.
-Mute / unmute the background music.
-Fault acknowledgement.
-Reset evacuation / alert events.
-Stop (without resetting) evacuation / alert messages.
-Reactivation of evacuation / alert messages.
-Fault indication.
-Activation of all-clear, test and routine messages.
All paging microphones also have the ‘Push To Talk’ (PTT), the ‘General Call’
and the ‘Chime’ (On/Off) buttons.
Up to eight BE 9808 (additional 8-zone-button) keyboards can be linked to
every BM 9804 (not used for emergency purposes) to increase the number of
available buttons.
The paging microphones used for emergency purposes (the rst of each bus)
can have max. four BE 9808 and their ALARM button can be enabled.
All paging microphones need to be powered by external 24 V dc adapters (500
mA, i.e. optional RCF AC AD 2405).
The rst paging microphone of each bus can be used for emergency purposes.
In this case, the paging microphone shall be directly powered by the DXT 9000
system main unit (no need of an external adapter, but it will be necessary to
set an internal switch) as required by the EN 54-16 standard.

BM 9804FM
BM 9804FM is the ‘Firemen’ paging microphone that works in the same way of
the BM 9804 model, but with the following differences:
-The paging microphone is inside a wall-mounted metallic box (colour: red,
RAL 3000) with glass.
-A handheld microphone with momentary switch (instead of a gooseneck mic.).
-The handheld microphone momentary switch has the same function of the
PTT button 6.

The switch is on the PCB, near the fuse and the input for the adapter.
If the paging microphone is the rst of the line and is for emergency purposes,
set this switch from Vcon (paging microphone supplied by the external adapter)
to Vnet (supplied by the bus).
Then, remount the rear cover.
WARNING: the internal switch setting shall be carried out only by either
RCF or an authorised service centre.
First, remove the rear cover by unscrewing its 6 screws.

Up to eight BE 9808 (additional 8-zone-button) keyboards can be linked to every
BM 9804 (each powered by an ACAD2405 adapter and not used for emergency
purposes) to increase the number of available buttons.

The paging microphones used for emergency purposes (the rst of each bus)
can have maximum four BE 9808.

Fix the rst BE 9808 to the BM 9804 (and all BE
9808 to one another) by using the dedicated plate
(included in the BE 9808 package) and four screws.

FRONT PANEL
Up to sixteen BM 9804 paging microphones (with or without additional
BE 9808 keyboards) can be linked to each main unit bus (PAGING IN 1
and PAGING IN 2).
Every BM 9804 needs a 24 Vdc – 500 mA power supply (not included,
i.e. optional RCF AC AD2405).
The first paging microphone of each bus can be used for emergency
purposes (required by the EN 54-16 standard). In this case, the paging
microphone shall be directly powered by the DXT 9000 system main
unit (no need of an external adapter, but it will be necessary to set the
internal switch, as indicated in the previous manual section).
The emergency BM 9804 paging microphone can have max. four
additional BE 9808 keyboards.

Each can be can be set (by using the dedicated PC software) to:
-Select zones or zone groups.
-Recall presets.
-Increase / Decrease the background music volume.
-Mute / unmute the background music.
-Others (see the initial description).
2LEDs (green): when lit, the zone / zone group (or

preselected.
3LEDs (green / yellow):
-When lit green, the selection is accepted and the
respective zone / group is now engaged by the used
paging microphone.
-When lit yellow, the respective zone / group is
engaged by other devices.
4CHIME button: push to toggle on/off the chime (sent
before an announcement).
5CHIME LED (green): when lit, the chime (sent before an
announcement) is enabled.
Push its respective button 4to toggle on/off.
6PTT (‘Push To Talk’) button: push and hold down to turn the microphone on
and page the zones / zone groups previously selected.

7PTT LED (green): when lit, the microphone is turned on (by pushing the
PTT button 6).

All parameters are displayed in one of the 4 available languages: English, Italian,
German and French. The rst three (contrast, language choice and password)
and the menu exit are always selectable, the others need the insertion of the
correct password.

USE
Before using the paging microphone, verify if ‘Connection: ON’ and ‘Console
ready’ are displayed.
Choose to enable / disable the chime by pushing the CHIME button 4.
SELECTIVE (ZONE / GROUP) OR GENERAL CALLS
1. Make sure that one or more zones (or groups) to be selected are not already
engaged by other devices (LED 3lit yellow), although this is not strictly
binding in case the used paging microphone has a higher priority level.
2. Select one or more zones (or groups) by pushing the respective buttons 1;
the corresponding LEDs 2light up. A further press of a button unchecks the
respective zone (or group). Push the GEN CALL button 8(instead) to make a
general call (the corresponding LED 9lights up).
If one or more additional BE 9808 keyboards are present, it is also possible to
select zones (or groups) combined with their buttons.

USE
Push the rotary encoder 12 once to enter the menu.
Turn it clockwise to scroll the menu downwards or increase the selected
parameter value.
Turn it counterclockwise to scroll the menu upwards or decrease the selected
parameter value.
Press to select.
LANGUAGE CHOICE
To select the English language (if not yet):
-Push the rotary encoder 12 once.
-Turn it clockwise so that the index (displayed on the right) is on “Lingua”
(or “Sprache” / “Langue”, according to the current language).
-Push it again to edit the parameter value.
-Select 00 (English) and push it to conrm.
PASSWORD INSERTION
Insert the correct password to access all parameters:
-Push the rotary encoder 12 once.
-Turn it clockwise so that the index (displayed on the right) is on ‘Password’,
then push it again.
-Select the code rst digit, then push the rotary encoder to conrm and select
the second, the third and the fourth digits in the same way.

3. Press and hold down the PTT button 6.
4. Verify the zone (/ group) selection is accepted (LEDs 3lit green):
-If yes, wait (a few seconds) the chime playing (if previously enabled) and
talk a few inches from the microphone capsule.
-If not, it is not possible to call now, but you should wait until the selected
zone (or groups) are free.
5. After the end of the announcement, release the PTT button 6.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
Each zone / group button can be alternatively be assigned (by using the dedicated
PC software) to one of the following functions:
-Recall presets.
-Increase / Decrease the background music volume.
-Mute / unmute the background music.
-Fault acknowledgement.
-Reset evacuation / alert events.
-Stop (without resetting) evacuation / alert messages.
-Reactivation of evacuation / alert messages.
-Fault indication.
-Activation of all-clear, test and routine messages.
ALARM BUTTON
The ALARM button 10 can be enabled (by editing the software) and used only
on paging microphones for emergency purposes.
If pushed, the correspondent red LED 11 will light up and, after a few seconds,
the selected evacuation / alert message (chosen in the PC software) will start
playing.
the delay (afew seconds) of the evacuation / alert message playback is aprecaution that
allows you to immediately remedy any accidental activation, by pressing the alarm
button again.
Push the ALARM button again to stop the evacuation / alert message playback.

PTT
The remen’s microphone needs the emergency function.
It shall be connected as rst of the bus and placed in a room
with access restricted to authorized personnel only.
BM 9804FM shall be placed in a closed environment, within a
protected area not subjected to conditions that may affect its
operation, for example: moisture, salt, water inltration, extreme
temperatures, shocks, etc. .
It should be placed at a height from the oor that makes it easily
accessible.
Also check the suitability of the wall and the components used
for attachment (wall plugs, screws, not supplied by RCF), which
must guarantee the system security over time, also considering,
for example, the mechanical vibrations normally generated by
transducers.

(just one) be 9808 additional keyboard.
this request shall be indicated in advance in the order or the modification
shall be carried out later by authorized rcf personnel only.

MICROPHONE
BM 9804FM is the ‘Firemen’ paging microphone that works in
the same way of the BM 9804 model, but with the following
differences:
-The paging microphone is inside a wall-mounted metallic box
(colour: red, RAL 3000) with glass.
-A handheld microphone with momentary switch
(instead of a gooseneck mic.).

Prima di collegare ed utilizzare la base microfonica, leggere attentamente le istruzioni
contenute in questo manuale, il quale è da conservare per riferimenti futuri.
Il presente manuale costituisce parte integrante del prodotto e deve accompagnare
quest’ultimo anche nei passaggi di proprietà, per permettere al nuovo proprietario di
conoscere le modalità d’installazione e d’utilizzo e le avvertenze per la sicurezza.
L’installazione e l’utilizzo errati del prodotto esimono RCF S.p.A. da ogni responsabilità.
AVVERTENZE PER LA SICUREZZA
Secondo la norma EN 54-16 (“livello di accesso 2”), i microfoni per annunci d’emergenza
devono essere accessibili solo da persone che hanno responsabilità in materia di sicurezza e
sono formate ed autorizzate ad operare nelle condizioni di inattività, allarme vocale, avviso
di guasto e disabilitazione.
1. Tutte le avvertenze, in particolare quelle relative alla sicurezza, devono essere lette con
particolare attenzione, in quanto contengono importanti informazioni.
2. Prima di accendere le apparecchiature, assicurarsi che tutte le connessioni siano corrette.
Non collegare / scollegare la base microfonica quando il sistema è acceso.
3. Accertarsi che il cavo della base microfonica non possa essere calpestato o schiacciato da
oggetti, al ne di salvaguardarne l’integrità.
4. Non immergere la base microfonica nell’acqua (od in altri liquidi), non lanciarla o lasciarla
cadere.
5. Non eseguire sulla base microfonica interventi / modiche / riparazioni; contattare i centri
di assistenza autorizzati nel caso che non funzioni correttamente.
6. Nel caso che dalla base microfonica provengano stranamente odori anomali od addirittura
fumo, spegnere immediatamente il sistema audio e scollegarla.
7. RCF S.P.A. raccomanda vivamente che l’installazione del sistema audio sia eseguita
solamente da installatori professionali qualicati (oppure da ditte specializzate) in grado di
farla correttamente e certicarla in accordo con le normative vigenti. Tutto il sistema audio
dovrà essere in conformità con le norme e le leggi vigenti in materia di impianti elettrici.
8. I fattori meccanici ed elettrici sono da considerare quando si installa un sistema audio
professionale (oltre a quelli prettamente acustici, come la pressione sonora, gli angoli di
copertura, la risposta in frequenza, ecc.).
9. Non puntare la base microfonica verso un diffusore acustico vicino, onde evitare un
possibile innesco.
10. Perdita dell’udito
L’esposizione ad elevati livelli sonori può provocare la perdita permanente dell’udito. Il livello
di pressione acustica pericolosa per l’udito varia sensibilmente da persona a persona e
dipende dalla durata dell’esposizione. Per evitare un’esposizione potenzialmente pericolosa
ad elevati livelli di pressione acustica, è necessario che chiunque sia sottoposto a tali livelli
utilizzi delle adeguate protezioni; quando si fa funzionare un trasduttore in grado di produrre
elevati livelli sonori, è necessario indossare dei tappi per orecchie o delle cufe protettive.
11. Per evitare che fenomeni induttivi diano luogo a ronzii, disturbi e compromettano il buon
funzionamento dell’impianto, il cavo della base microfonica non deve essere canalizzato
insieme ai conduttori dell’energia elettrica e/o alle linee dei diffusori acustici.
12. Collocare la base microfonica lontano da amme (o fonti di calore eccessivo).
13. Non usare solventi, alcool, benzina o altre sostanze volatili per la pulitura delle parti
esterne, ma un panno asciutto.
