INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
The following instructions are designed for the user of the appliance. The user may not install or
adjust the appliance in any way that requires the removal of the front cover of the unit. To remove
the front cover of the unit you must be certified competent to do so.
Information for the Installer is given on page 23.
All work done on this appliance must be done by a qualified gas engineer. A qualified gas
engineer must carry an up to date Gas Safe Registered Gas Installer photo identification
card while working on gas appliances. If you are unsure do not be afraid to ask the
engineer to show you the card. If you are still not satisfied call Gas Safe on 0800 408 5500
and verify the engineer’s name with their database. This is for your own safety.
Responsibilities of the USER
The user must abide by all warnings given in this book. The user must only reference the user
section of the book, and may not carry out any procedure listed in the installer section. This
installation manual should be kept with the appliance for maintenance and user information.
The user must have the unit checked and maintained annually by a gas engineer.
The user must periodically check the air filter of the appliance.
The user must not use the appliance in any way that it was not meant to be used. The user may
only use the heater as detailed in the User portion of this manual.
Interference with a sealed component is not permitted. In case of defect parts only use genuine
Rinnai components for replacement.
Conversion to other gas types should only be carried out by a qualified installer or a gas distributor
according to the practice in the country where the unit is installed.
The user must not store or use any flammable vapours or liquids in the vicinity of this or any other
appliance.
The user should familiarise themselves with the appliance gas service valve and the main gas
valve to the premises.
Attention: air surrounding the appliance, venting and vent termination(s) is used for combustion and must
be free of any compounds that cause corrosion of internal components. These include corrosive compounds
that are found in aerosol sprays, detergents, bleaches, cleaning solvents, oil based paints/ varnishes, and
refrigerants. Therefore Rinnai recommends outdoor models be used for these locations where possible.
The appliance, venting and vent termination(s) should not be installed in any areas where the air may
contain these corrosive compounds.
IF YOU SMELL GAS
Isolate the gas supply and get out of the building. Do not try to light any appliance. Do not
turn any light or other electrical switch on or off. Do not use any telephone in the building.
Call your gas engineer from a safe location and follow their instructions.

Safety Behaviors and Practices
 The appliance must be installed in accordance with
the local and national gas and electrical authority
regulations.
 Do not install damaged heater: if the heater is
damaged, contact Rinnai or your supplier for advice.
 Before installing the heater check the label for the
correct gas type (plate is on the right side of the
appliance).
 A dedicated 230V earthed 3Amp 50Hz power point
must be used with this appliance.
 Repairs should be performed by a qualified service
technician. Consumer should not repair by yourself.
 Keep the area around the appliance clear and free
from combustible materials, gasoline, and other
flammable vapors and liquids.
 Do not connect to LPG gas cylinder indoors.
 Do not use this appliance if any part has been under
water. Immediately call a qualified service
technician to inspect the appliance and to replace
any part of the control system and any gas control
which has been under water.
 This appliance is equipped with a three-prong plug
for your protection against shock hazard and should
be plugged directly into a properly grounded three-
prong receptacle. Do not cut or remove the ground
prong from this plug.
 Any alteration to the appliance or its controls can be
dangerous.
 Do not operate appliance with the panels removed,
cracked or broken. Replacement of the panels
should be done by a qualified service person.
 Do not block the warm air discharge. Do not allow
anyone to sleep directly in front of the appliance.
 Due to high temperatures, the appliance should be
located out of traffic and away from furniture and
draperies.
 Children and adults should be alerted to the hazards
of high surface temperature and should stay away to
avoid burns or clothing ignition.
 Young children should be carefully supervised when
they are in the same room as the appliance.
 Clothing or other flammable material should not be
placed on or near the appliance.
 Any safety screen or guard removed for servicing
must be replaced prior to operating the appliance.
 Do not insert items into the louvers.
 Do not spray aerosols near the appliance while it is
operating. Most aerosols contain butane gas which
is flammable.
 Do not unplug the appliance while it is operating or
while the fans are on.
 Do not use bare hands to touch the front louvers
due to high temperatures which may cause burns.
 Prevent dust from accumulating on the power cord,
side covers, and parts behind the appliance.
 Do not sit on the heater.
 Do not place containers of liquid on top of the
heater. Water spillage can cause extensive damage
to the appliance and may result in electric shock.

Features
ROOM SEALED - Air for combustion is taken from the outside and the flue products are exhausted to the outside.
This means heater operation has no effect on the composition and quality of air in the room.
WARM AIR OUTLET AT FLOOR LEVEL - A warm air flow is generated at floor level keeping your feet warm.
IGNITION - Only one touch on the ON/OFF button is required to operate the heater. The heater restarts
automatically when ignition or combustion fails.
CHILD LOCK - Prevents children from altering heater settings whilst running, or from activating the heater when
turned OFF.
7 STEP AUTOMATIC HEAT CONTROL - Selected temperature is controlled via thermostat. The optimum
corresponding fan speeds are controlled by the central processing unit.
ECONOMY MODE - The Economy (ECON) function is an energy saving feature designed to control the room
temperature and to prevent discomfort from overheating.
FILTER INDICATOR - When the fan filters become covered with dust, the filter indicator will flash. The filters
should be vacuumed at regular intervals to avoid unnecessary strain on the appliance.
HUMIDIFIER TRAY - The integral humidifier tray can be filled with water as required to raise the humidity level in
the room for extra comfort. The tray should not be filled to more than 3/4 full.
HUSH - Quiet operation.
FAULT CODE MESSAGE DISPLAY - The Energysaver has the ability to monitor its own operation and flash on
the digital display an appropriate error code assisting with diagnosis of the fault.
 Overheat: The appliance will automatically shut
down when the appliance exceeds a predetermined
temperature.
 Flame Failure: The appliance will automatically
shut down if the burner flame is extinguished.
 Power Failure: The appliance will shut off the gas
if it loses electrical power.
 Power Surge Fuse: A glass fuse on the PC board
protects against overcurrent. If the fuse blows then
all indicator lamps will be off.
 Spark Detector: The appliance automatically shuts
down if there is an abnormal spark at ignition.
 Fusible Link: In case the overheat feature does
not prevent an overheat then the fusible link could
break, shutting off the appliance.

SAFETY DEVICES
OVERHEAT SWITCH:
This device automatically shuts off the gas supply off if the heater exceeds a predetermined temperature.
This is normally caused by an obstruction in front of the louvres or a blocked fan filter.
If the overheat switch operates, turn the unit `OFF`, remove the obstruction (clean filters) and allow the unit to cool off
for 10-15minutes before re-operating.
FUSIBLE LINKS:
The fusible link activates under conditions of severe overheating and shuts off the gas supply.
If this is the case the cause of the overheat MUST be established prior to a new link being fitted.
FLAME FAILURE DEVICE
If the flame goes out during operation this device shuts off the gas to the burner. To reset, turn the unit `OFF`, then
`ON` again.
ELECTRICAL FUSE
The electrical circuits are protected by an electrical fuse When the fuse blows, the heater will not operate. The cause
of this occurrence must be ascertained.

ON / OFF (1)
Press the ON/OFF button (1) to operate the heater. The ON indicator (10) will glow green. The spark generator will be
heard before the burner ignites. Once the burner ignites the ON indicator (9) will glow red, indicating that the heater is
alight. When the heater warms up, the fan will automatically start.
If the heater does not ignite on initial use, this may be due to air remaining in the gas supply line or a setting which is
higher than the room temperature. The spark generator will only continue for 15 seconds. After it will be necessary to
press the ON/OFF button (1) OFF, then ON again.
To turn the heater off, press the ON/OFF button (1). The ON indicator (10) light will go out. The fan will continue to
operate for several minutes after the burner has gone out in order to cool the heater. Do not unplug the heater while
the fan is running.
Economy (Energy Saving Mode) (2)
The Economy function (ECON) is an energy saving feature designed to control the room temperature and prevent
discomfort from over heating.
The ECON can only be set while the heater is turned ON, but remains in the system memory until deactivated.
Select the Economy function before selecting timer operation.
To turn the ECON on (or off), press the “Economy” button (2). The Economy indicator on the button will glow (or go
out).
 If the appliance is turned off manually, or stops heating as a result of an OFF timer period, the “Economy “
indicator will go out.
 Whenever the appliance starts heating again, the “Economy” indicator will light.
 The Economy function can only be turned off while the heater is operating (heating) and when the “Economy”
indicator is lit.

Economy Function Information
 When the room temperature reaches the set temperature, the set temperature decreases at the rate
of 1°C per 30 minutes in two cycles.
 The set temperature on the display does not change. The comfort is not affected.
 The Economy Function will not operate if the heater is under capacity for the room size.

Room temperature adjustment (3 & 4)
The room temperature and pre-set temperatures can only be displayed and adjusted when the heater is
running.
1. 1. Turn the heater on by pressing the “ON/OFF” button.
2. 2. Press the up or down arrows to set the desired room temperature. When indicator light 7 is
illuminated the display shows the room temperature set. Indicator light 8 illuminated the actual room
temperature is displayed.
The temperature can be preset to:
a) a) [L] - temperature is controlled at set temperature “Low”.
b) b) [16°C] to [26°C] in 1°C steps - thermostatic control to preset temp selected. Combustion rate
varies as required to maintain the selected temperature.
c) c) [H] - continuous combustion on “High”.

Child Lock ( 5 )
The Child Lock will help to prevent accidental operation of the appliance and to prevent children from operating
the appliance.
To activate Child Lock, press & hold both the TEMP. CONTROL buttons until a beep is heard and the LOCK
INDICATOR (5) illuminates.
To deactivate Child Lock, .press & hold both the TEMP. CONTROL buttons again until a beep is heard. The
indicator light (5) will go out .
 The lock can be activated when the heater is ON or OFF. If activated while the heater is ON, all controls
other than the OFF switch will be locked. If activated while the heater is OFF, then all controls will be locked.
 If the heater is turned off while the Child Lock is activated, it cannot be turned on again until the lock is
deactivated.
 Deactivating the lock releases the control buttons.
Humidifier and Air Flow Direction
The heater is fitted with an enameled tray behind the air outlet so
that you can humidify the air. To fill the tray, open the access panel
as shown in the diagram and pour water into the tray using the spout
built into the access panel. Do not fill the tray over 3/4 full.
Humidifier tray may become hot.
Do not fill the tray until operation has stopped and appliance is
cooled down.
Do not operate without tray in place.
Adding Water to the Humidifier
Adjusting Air Flow Direction
The vertical louvers may be adjusted to direction the air flow as
desired, but only when appliance is off.
Carefully insert a screwdriver and gently bend the vertical louvers
either to the right or to the left. The horizontal louvers are fixed and
cannot be adjusted.
Do not bend repeatedly adjust louvers (no more than 5 times) or
they will break.

Cleaning
Your heater requires very little maintenance, but the following information will help you to keep it looking like new
and working efficiently.
 Unplug electrical cord before cleaning.
 All parts of the heater can be cleaned using a soft, damp cloth and a mild detergent.
 DO NOT use solvents or abrasives to clean any parts.
Care for the humidifier tray: if the humidifier tray gets dirty, wash in warm soap water.
How to clean: when heater is cold, remove the lower cover panel and pull out the humidifier tray from appliance.
Ensure there is no water in the tray. If there is water in the tray, keep the tray level to avoid spilling then wash in
warm soapy water.
Filter
To protect the appliance internals from dust particles or lint, a filter is situated at the rear of the heater.
Dirty filters reduce the air flow and the appliance’s ability to produce heat. The filter should be cleaned frequently
during the heating season.
 DO NOT remove filter when the appliance is operating.
 If the filter requires cleaning, clean filter whilst the appliance is not
operating. The FILTER indicator (8) will illuminate and the digital display
(6) will show error code 14.
NOTE: if you do not clean the filter at regular intervals and the filter indicator (8)
is allowed to remain flashing, then the appliance will stop. You must clean the
filter before operating the heater again.
 DO NOT use the heater with filter indicator (8) flashing as this may cause
overheating. DO NOT wait for the filter indicator (8) to flash before cleaning
filters.
Remove the filter and clean it using a soft dry cloth or vacuum. If the filter is
greasy wash with warm soapy water, rinse, and dry completely.
Snow Accumulation
Keep the area around flue terminal free of snow and ice. The appliance will not function properly if the intake air
or exhaust is impeded by obstructions.

[1] If the fusible link needs replacement, it must be done by a qualified service agency. In addition, the cause of the overheat needs to be
determined. The fusible link is a one use safety device that breaks to shut off the appliance.
[2] Remove any obstructions. The flue needs to be kept clear to expel exhaust gases. If the appliance fails to operate contact a qualified
service agency.

The Energysaver range of heaters has the ability to monitor its own operation continuously. If a fault occurs, the
appliance shut down as a safety precaution and an error message will flash on the digital display (6) on the
control panel. This assist with diagnosing the fault, and may enable you to overcome a problem without a service
call. Please quote the code displayed when inquiring about service.
NOTE: service calls for general cleaning, maintenance and wear and tear are not covered under the war-
ranty. Service calls of this nature may be chargeable.
Faults caused by insufficient gas supply, gas quality, installation errors or operation errors are not cov-
ered by the Rinnai warranty.
