INTRODUCTION
The RPB®Quiet-Link™Ear Defenders helmet mounted earmuffs (18-533) are part of the RPB®
LINK®System. These earmuffs should only be fitted to and used only with the following
respirators:

T-LINK®
These earmuffs meet the following standards:

PROTECTIONS PROVIDED AND LIMITATIONS
HEARING PROTECTION
The Quiet-Link™Ear Defender system provides an Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 25.
The Quiet-Link™Ear Defender helmet mounted system is not designed to be used with any
other respirator or helmet besides the Z-Link®and T-Link®.

The level of noise entering a person’s ear, when a hearing protector is worn as directed, is closely
approximated by the difference between the A-weighted environmental noise level and the NRR.
Example:
1. The environmental noise level as measured at the ear is 92 dBA.
2. The NRR is 25 decibels (dB)
3. The level of noise entering the ear is approximately equal to 67dBA.
For noise environments dominated by frequencies below 500Hz, the C-weighted environmental
noise level should be used in determining required NRR. Refer to Table 1.1. for attenuation data by
frequency. Improper fit of this device will reduce its effectiveness in attenuating noise. Although
hearing protectors can be recommended for protection against harmful effects of impulse noise,

the Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) is based on the attenuation of continuous noise and may not
be an accurate indicator of the protection attainable against impulse noise, such as gunfire.
Note: The Noise Reduction Rating is derived from testing procedures at an independent laboratory
and in accordance to acceptable A.N.S.I. standards. Actual noise reduction can vary from
laboratory results as shown in Table 1.1 and as labelled on the packaging. Protection is maximized
when: proper protector is selected for application, a good training program is utilized and proper
fitting techniques are followed.

HAZARD LIMITATIONS
The RPB®Quiet-Link™is NOT FOR USE if:
They cause the respirator to not properly fit on the users head or they cause the cape, face
seal, or hood to not seal and potentially allow contaminants into the respirator.

Your specific responsibilities may vary by location and industry, but in general RPB®expects that

Depending on your location and industry, a number of standards and regulations may apply
to your selection and use of personal protective equipment. These may include such things
as federal (e.g., OSHA, MSHA, Canadian Occupational Health and Safety), local (e.g., state,
provincial), or military standards and regulations and consensus standards such as ANSI and
CSA. Know which requirements apply to your location and industry.
Have appropriate safety programs in place.
Have and follow:
A workplace safety program.
In accordance with the above,
Perform a hazard analysis and select appropriate equipment for each activity. A hazard
analysis should be performed by a qualified person. Controls should be in place as
appropriate and a qualified person should determine what kind of hearing protection is
appropriate for the intended activities and environments of use.
As applicable, check your workplace safety program and standards and regulations
for your activity or industry for related protection requirements, and see this manual
(Protection Provided and Limitations, page 4).
Train employees in the Quiet-Link™’s use, maintenance, and limitations.
Appoint a qualified individual who is knowledgable about the RPB®Quiet-Link™to provide
training:
Train each Quiet-Link™user in the product’s use, application, inspection, maintenance,
storage, fitting, and limitations in accordance with the content of this Instruction Manual and
standard or regulatory requirements. Ensure that each intended user reads the manual.
Ensure that equipment is properly set up, used, and maintained. Make sure that
equipment is properly set up, inspected, fitted, used, and maintained.

PRODUCT USER SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
BEFORE INITIAL USE - BE TRAINED
Do not use this product until you have read this manual (additional copies available at www.
rpbsafety.com) and been trained in the use, maintenance, and limitations by a qualified individual
(appointed by your employer) who is knowledgable about the RPB®Quiet-Link™Ear Defenders.
Allergens: No known common allergens are used in this product.
Some materials could cause an allergic reaction in susceptible individuals. If you have a known
allergy or develop irritation, inform your employer. Irritation may occur from lack of cleaning.
Following all cleaning and care instructions provided in the instruction manuals for this and any
other RPB®products you are using.
ENSURE PROPER FIT
The earmuff must fit snugly without any gaps in order to provide the specified level of noise
reduction. Check the size and fit before use and be aware of how accessories might interfere with
proper fit as discussed below:
When wearing eyeglasses, goggles, or respirator straps between the sealing surface of the
earmuffs, noise reduction may be lower. Wear glasses or goggles with thin, flat temples or straps
to reduce the interference with the seal of the earmuff cushions. Make sure long hair is pulled
back as much as possible and remove all items that may interfere with the earmuffs seal around
the ears such as jewelry, pencils/pens, earbuds or hats. Do not bend or reshape the supporting
arm wires as this will reduce the seal of the earmuffs and reduce the noise reduction.
These helmet mounted earmuffs are medium size range. Earmuffs complying with EN 352-3 are
of “medium size range”, “small size range” or “large size range”. “Medium size range” helmet
mounted earmuffs will fit the majority of wearers. “Small size range” or “large size range” helmet
mounted earmuffs are designed to fit wearers for whom “medium size range” earmuffs are not
suitable. The RPB®Quiet-Link™Ear Defenders are only available in medium size. Consult your
employer if you feel these earmuffs do not fit properly.
The fitting of hygiene covers to the cushions may affect the acoustic performance of the earmuffs.
Be aware that the hearing protection provided may be reduced.
MAKE SURE THE SYSTEM IS READY FOR USE
Make sure you have a complete system. Verify that you have all required components for the
Quiet-Link™to provide appropriate hearing protection.
See the instructions in this manual for installation and maintenance instructions. Use only
authentic RPB®brand parts and components. Using incomplete or inappropriate equipment,
including the use of counterfeit or non-RPB®parts, can result in inadequate protection. Do not
modify or alter any part of this product.
Inspect all components daily for signs of damage or wear and tear that may reduce the level
of protection originally provided. Remove any damaged component or product, including any
Quiet-Link™Ear Defenders or respirator that has been subject to impact, from service until

repaired or replaced. Damaged components should be replaced with genuine RPB®brand
replacement parts. Keep the inside of the Ear Defenders and respirator clean at all times.
Make sure that the respirator with Quiet-Link™Ear Defenders is correctly assembled. Verify that
you have the appropriate equipment for your activity. As applicable, check your workplace safety
program, standards and regulations for your activity or industry. (See PROTECTION PROVIDED
AND LIMITATIONS, page 4.)
BEFORE DONNING THE A RESPIRATOR FITTED WITH THE QUIET-LINK™EAR DEFENDERS:
Verify the Quiet-Link™provides sufficient hearing protection for the noise levels in you work area:
Determine the noise levels in the work area and verify that with the use of Quiet-Link™that
the noise levels will not exceed those allowed by applicable OSHA, EPA, NIOSH or local
regulations and recommendations.
If you have any questions, ask your employer.
QUIET-LINK™ HELMET MOUNTED EARMUFFS MUST BE:
worn at all times in noisy surroundings.

If these recommendations are not adhered to, the protection afforded
by the helmet mounted earmuffs will be severely impaired.
DO NOT ENTER THE WORK AREA if any of the following conditions exist:
Any product component becomes damaged.
The Quiet-Link™pads are not sealed completely around your ears.
You have any other reason to suspect that the Quiet-Link™is not providing adequate protection.
PRODUCT CARE
Quiet-Link™helmet mounted earmuffs must be fitted, adjusted and maintained in accordance
with these instructions. Never place the Quiet-Link™Ear Defenders on hot surfaces. Do not apply
paints, solvents, adhesives or self-adhesive labels except as instructed by RPB®. This product
may be adversely affected by certain chemicals. Clean with a mild detergent and a soft cloth or
a disinfectant wipe. Cleaning agents used must not be harmful to the wearer. Allow foam to air
dry completely before use. After use, clean the earmuffs before storing them.
STORAGE
Do not store in a place that is above 55°C or 131°F or in direct sunlight, such as a car dashboard.
Earmuffs, and in particular cushions, may deteriorate with use and should be examined at
frequent intervals for cracking and leakage, for example. Replace the cushions as needed. Simply
pull off the old cushions and apply the new ones by removing the adhesive backing paper and
sticking them onto the earmuffs. If the Quiet-Link™Ear Defenders are not going to be used for a
longer period of time or for transportation, it is recommended to store in a container or a bag.

Remove the head-harness from the helmet,
then remove the LINK® System Side Pads
from the head-harness. Reattach the
ratchet assembly to the head-harness.
Hook the loop of the mounting wire over the
tab on the top of the earmuff mounting clip.
Make sure the angled side of the mounting
wire is towards the back of the helmet.
Squeeze the mounting wire and then push
the wire into the earmuff mounting clip until
it snaps into place.

SETUP
Repeat these instructions for the other side. Once both earmuffs are attached, reattach the
head -harness. Then put on the helmet and adjust the height of the earmuffs by sliding them
up or down the mounting wire until your ear is in the middle of the cup. Be sure the earmuff
pad is firmly sealing equally all of the way around the ear.

Use only exact, authentic RPB®replacement parts (marked with the
RPB®logo and part number), and only in the specified configuration. Using incomplete or
inappropriate equipment, including the use of counterfeit or non-RPB®parts, can result in
inadequate protection and will void the NIOSH approval of the earmuff assembly.

LIMITED WARRANTY
RPB®warrants that its Products will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for one (1)
year, subject to the terms of this limited warranty. The Products are sold only for commercial use,
and no consumer warranties apply to the Products. This limited warranty is for the benefit of the
original Product purchaser, and cannot be transferred or assigned. This is the sole and exclusive
warranty provided by RPB®, and ALL CONDITIONS AND IMPLIED WARRANTIES (INCLUDING
ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE)
ARE EXCLUDED AND DISCLAIMED FROM WARRANTY COVERAGE. RPB’s®limited warranty
coverage does not apply to damage resulting from accident, improper use or misuse of the
Products, wear and tear resulting from the normal use of the Products, or the failure to properly
maintain the Products.
RPB’s®limited warranty coverage runs from the original date of purchase of the Products, and
applies only to warranted defects which first manifest themselves and are reported to RPB®within
the warranty period. RPB®retains the right to determine to its reasonable satisfaction whether
any claimed defect is covered by this limited warranty.
If a warranted defect occurs, RPB®will repair or replace the defective Product (or a component
of the Product), in its sole discretion. This “repair or replacement” remedy is the sole and
exclusive remedy under this limited warranty, and under no circumstances shall RPB’s®liability
under this limited warranty exceed the original purchase price for the Products (or the applicable
component). RPB®has no responsibility for incidental or consequential damages, including loss
of use, maintenance and other costs, and ALL INCIDENTAL AND CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES
ARE EXCLUDED AND DISCLAIMED from this limited warranty. Contact RPB®to obtain warranty
service. Proof of purchase must be provided to obtain warranty service. All costs of returning the
Products to RPB®for warranty service must be paid by the purchaser.
RPB®reserves the right to improve its Products through changes in design or materials without
being obligated to purchasers of previously manufactured Products.

De Quiet-Link™Oorbeschermers bieden een Dempingswaarde (NRR) van 25.
De op de kap gemonteerde Gehoorbescherming van Quiet-Link™is niet ontworpen om te

Het niveau van het geluid dat het oor van een persoon binnendringt, wanneer een
gehoorbeschermer wordt gedragen zoals aangegeven, wordt sterk benaderd door het verschil
tussen het A-gewogen omgevingsgeluidsniveau en de Dempingswaarde (NRR).
Voorbeeld:
1. Het omgevingsgeluidsniveau gemeten bij het oor is 92 dBA.
2. De NRR is 25 decibel (dB)
3. Het niveau van het geluid dat het oor binnenkomt is ongeveer gelijk aan 67dBA.

aanbevolen ter bescherming tegen schadelijke effecten van impulsgeluid, is de Dempingswaarde
(NRR) gebaseerd op de verzwakking van continu geluid en is mogelijk geen nauwkeurige
indicator van de bescherming die kan worden bereikt tegen impulsgeluid, zoals geweerschoten.
Opmerking: De Dempingswaarde is afgeleid van testprocedures in een onafhankelijk laboratorium
en in overeenstemming met aanvaardbare A.N.S.I. normen. De daadwerkelijke demping kan
verschillen van laboratoriumresultaten zoals aangegeven. Bescherming wordt gemaximaliseerd
wanneer: de juiste beschermer wordt geselecteerd voor toepassing, een goed trainingsprogramma
wordt gebruikt en de juiste aanpassingstechnieken worden gevolgd.

VERANTWOORDELIJKHEDEN VAN DE WERKGEVER
Uw specifieke verantwoordelijkheden kunnen verschillen per locatie en branche, maar over het
algemeen verwacht RPB®dat werkgevers:

Afhankelijk van uw locatie en branche, kunnen een aantal normen en voorschriften van
toepassing zijn op uw selectie en gebruik van persoonlijke beschermende uitrusting. Deze
kunnen bijvoorbeeld federale (bijv. OSHA, MSHA, Canadese gezondheid en veiligheid op
het werk), lokale (bijvoorbeeld staat, provinciaal) of militaire normen en voorschriften en
consensusstandaarden zoals ANSI en CSA omvatten. Weet welke eisen van toepassing zijn op
uw locatie en branche.

VÓÓR HET EERSTE GEBRUIK - TRAINING
Gebruik dit product niet totdat u deze handleiding (extra exemplaren beschikbaar op www.
rpbsafety.com) en getraind bent in het gebruik, het onderhoud en de beperkingen door een
gekwalificeerd persoon (benoemd door uw werkgever) die kennis heeft van de RPB®Quiet-Link™
Gehoorbescherming.
Allergenen: Er zijn in dit product geen bekende veel voorkomende allergenen gebruikt.
Sommige materialen kunnen een allergische reactie veroorzaken bij personen die daarvoor
gevoelig zijn. Als u allergisch bent of een irritatie ontwikkelt, licht dan uw werkgever in.
Irritatie kan optreden als gevolg van een gebrek aan reiniging. Volg alle reinigings- en
onderhoudsinstructies in de handleidingen voor dit en alle andere RPB®-producten die u gebruikt.
ZORG VOOR GOEDE PASVORM
De oorbeschermer moet precies passen zonder spleten om het gespecificeerde niveau van
demping te bieden. Controleer het formaat en pasvorm voor gebruik en let op hoe accessoires de
juiste pasvorm kunnen verstoren, zoals hieronder wordt besproken:
Bij het dragen van brillen, veiligheidsbrillen of ademhalingstoestelbanden tussen het
afdichtingsoppervlak van de oorbeschermers, kan de dempingswaarde lager zijn. Draag een
bril of veiligheidsbril met dunne, platte veren of bandjes om verstoring van de afdichting van de
kussens van de oorbeschermer te verminderen. Zorg ervoor dat lang haar zo veel mogelijk wordt
bevoegd persoon moet een gevarenanalyse uitvoeren. Er moeten waar nodig controles
plaatsvinden en een gekwalificeerd persoon moet bepalen welk soort gehoorbescherming
geschikt is voor de beoogde werkzaamheden en gebruiksomstandigheden.
Indien van toepassing, controleer uw veiligheidsprogramma op de werkplek, en
de normen en voorschriften voor uw werkzaamheid of branche voor gerelateerde
beschermingsvereisten en raadpleeg deze handleiding (Bescherming en Beperkingen,
pagina 15).
Train medewerkers in het gebruik, onderhoud en de beperkingen van de Quiet-Link™.
Benoem een gekwalificeerd persoon met voldoende kennis over de RPB®Quiet-Link™om
training te geven:
Train elke Quiet-Link™-gebruiker voor het gebruik, de toepassing, de inspectie, het
onderhoud, de opslag, de pasvorm en de beperkingen van het product in overeenstemming
met de inhoud van deze Gebruiksaanwijzing en de standaard- of regelgevingsvereisten. Zorg
ervoor dat iedere beoogde gebruiker de handleiding leest.

teruggetrokken en verwijder alle items die de oorbescherming rond de oren kunnen verstoren,
zoals sieraden, potloden/pennen, oordopjes of hoeden. Buig of hervorm de draden in de steunarm
niet, omdat dit de afdichting van de oorbeschermers vermindert en de demping vermindert.
Deze op de kap gemonteerde oorbeschermers zijn van middelmatige grootte. Oorbeschermers
die voldoen aan EN 352-3 komen in “Middelgroot”, “Klein” of “Groot”. Op de kap gemonteerde
oorbeschermers van “Middelgroot” formaat, passen de meeste dragers. De formaten “Klein”
of “Groot” voor op de kap gemonteerde oorbeschermers zijn ontworpen voor dragers voor wie
oorbeschermers die “Middelgroot” zijn niet passen. De RPB®Quiet-Link™-oorbeschermers
zijn alleen verkrijgbaar in middelgroot formaat. Raadpleeg uw werkgever als u vindt dat deze
oorbeschermers niet goed passen.
Het aanbrengen van hygiënehoezen op de kussens kan de akoestische prestaties van de
oorbeschermers beïnvloeden. Houd er rekening mee dat de meegeleverde gehoorbescherming
kan worden verminderd.
CONTROLEER OF HET SYSTEEM GEBRUIKSKLAAR IS
Zorg dat u een compleet systeem heeft. Controleer of u alle benodigde onderdelen voor de
Quiet-Link™heeft om de juiste gehoorbescherming te bieden.
Raadpleeg deze gebruiksaanwijzing voor montage en onderhoud- instructies. Gebruik alleen
authentieke RPB®-merkonderdelen en -componenten. Het gebruik van onvolledige of ongeschikte
onderdelen, waaronder het gebruik van nagemaakte of niet-RPB®-onderdelen, kan leiden tot
onvoldoende bescherming. Pas geen enkel deel van dit product aan, en verander niets.
Inspecteer alle componenten dagelijks op tekenen van beschadiging of slijtage die het
beschermingsniveau dat oorspronkelijk werd geleverd kunnen verminderen. Verwijder elk
beschadigd onderdeel of product voor service, reparatie of vervanging, inclusief Quiet-Link™
Gehoorbescherming of Ademhalingstoestel dat onderhevig is geweest aan impact. Beschadigde
onderdelen moeten worden vervangen door originele RPB®-vervangingsonderdelen. Houd de
binnenkant van de Gehoorbescherming altijd schoon.
Zorg ervoor dat de Quiet-Link™Gehoorbescherming correct is gemonteerd. Controleer of u
over de juiste apparatuur voor uw activiteit beschikt. Controleer, indien van toepassing, uw
veiligheidsprogramma, normen en voorschriften op de werkplek voor uw werkzaamheid of
branche. (Zie BESCHERMING EN BEPERKINGEN, pagina 15.)
VOOR HET AANTREKKEN VAN EEN ADEMHALINGSTOESTEL MET DE QUIET-LINK™
GEHOORBESCHERMING:
Controleer of de Quiet-Link™voldoende gehoorbescherming biedt voor de geluidsniveaus in uw
werkgebied:
Bepaal de geluidsniveaus in het werkgebied en verifieer dat met het gebruik van Quiet-Link™de
geluidsniveaus niet hoger zijn dan de niveaus die zijn toegestaan door de toepasselijke OSHA-,
EPA- of NIOSH-voorschriften en -aanbevelingen.
Als u vragen heeft, stel deze aan uw werkgever.

BETREED DE WERKPLEK NIET als één van de volgende omstandigheden zich voordoet:
Een component van het product beschadigd raakt.
De Quiet-Link™-oorkussens sluiten niet volledig aan rondom uw oren.
Er is een andere reden om te vermoeden dat de Quiet-Link™onvoldoende bescherming biedt.
ONDERHOUD
Plaats de Quiet-Link™Gehoorbeschermers nooit op hete oppervlakken. Breng geen verf,
oplosmiddelen, kleefstoffen of zelfklevende etiketten aan, tenzij aan de hand van instructies van
RPB®. Bepaalde chemicaliën kunnen schadelijk zijn voor dit product. Reinig en desinfecteer met
warm water en een zacht doekje. Laat het schuim vóór gebruik volledig aan de lucht drogen.
Reinig de oorbeschermers na gebruik voordat u ze opbergt.
OPSLAG
Bewaar niet in een temperatuur boven 55°C of 131°F of in direct zonlicht, zoals het dashboard
van een auto. Oorbeschermers, en met name de oorkussens, kunnen door gebruik verslijten
en moeten regelmatig worden onderzocht op bijvoorbeeld scheurtjes en lekkage. Vervang de
oorkussens indien nodig. Trek simpelweg de oude kussens eraf en breng de nieuwe aan door het
zelfklevende papier te verwijderen en ze achterop de oorbeschermers te plakken.

Verwijder het hoofd-harnas uit de helm en verwijder vervolgens de LINK®-zijkussens van het
hoofdharnas. Bevestig de spanband opnieuw aan het hoofdharnas.

Zorg ervoor dat de schuine kant van de montagedraad aan de achterkant van de kap zit.

Haak de lus van de montagedraad over het lipje op de bovenkant van de bevestigingsklem van de
oorbeschermer.

Knijp de montagedraad samen en druk de draad vervolgens in de bevestigingsklem van de oorbe-
schermer totdat deze op zijn plaats klikt.
Herhaal deze instructies voor de andere kant. Nadat beide oorbeschermers zijn bevestigd, beves-
tigt u het hoofdharnas. Zet dan de kap op en pas de positie van de oorbeschermers aan door deze
op en neer over de montagedraad te schuiven totdat uw oor zich in het midden van de bescher-
mer bevindt. Zorg ervoor dat het kussen van de oorbescherming stevig zit en gelijkmatig rondom
het oor afdicht.

BEPERKTE GARANTIE
RPB®garandeert dat haar Producten gedurende één (1) jaar vrij zijn van materiaal- en
fabricagefouten, met inachtneming van de voorwaarden van deze beperkte garantie.
De Producten worden alleen verkocht voor commercieel gebruik en er zijn geen
consumentengaranties van toepassing op de Producten. Deze beperkte garantie komt ten goede
aan de oorspronkelijke koper van het Product en kan niet worden overgedragen of toegewezen.
Dit is de enige en exclusieve garantie die door RPB®wordt geboden en ALLE VOORWAARDEN
EN STILZWIJGENDE GARANTIES (INCLUSIEF ELKE GARANTIE VAN VERKOOPBAARHEID OF
GESCHIKTHEID VOOR EEN BEPAALD DOEL) WORDEN UITGESLOTEN EN UITGESLOTEN VAN
DE GARANTIEDEKKING. De beperkte garantiedekking van RPB®is niet van toepassing op schade
die voortvloeit uit een ongeval, oneigenlijk gebruik of verkeerd gebruik van de Producten, slijtage
als gevolg van het normale gebruik van de Producten of het niet correct onderhouden van de
Producten.
De beperkte garantiedekking van RPB®geldt vanaf de oorspronkelijke aankoopdatum van de
Producten en is alleen van toepassing op gebreken die zich voor het eerst manifesteren en die
binnen de garantieperiode aan RPB®worden gemeld. RPB®behoudt het recht om naar redelijke
tevredenheid te bepalen of een geclaimd defect onder deze beperkte garantie valt.
Als er defect optreedt dat onder de garantie valt, zal RPB®naar eigen goeddunken het defecte
Product (of een onderdeel van het product) repareren of vervangen. Deze ‘reparatie of vervanging’
oplossing is de enige en exclusieve remedie onder deze beperkte garantie en de aansprakelijkheid
van RPB®onder deze beperkte garantie zal onder geen enkele omstandigheid de oorspronkelijke
aankoopprijs voor de Producten (of het toepasselijke onderdeel) overschrijden. RPB®is niet
verantwoordelijk voor incidentele of gevolgschade, inclusief gebruiksderving, onderhoud en
andere kosten, en ALLE INCIDENTELE EN GEVOLGSCHADE ZIJN UITGESLOTEN EN NIET
ERKEND door deze beperkte garantie. Neem contact op met RPB®voor garantieservice. Een
bewijs van aankoop moet worden verstrekt om garantieservice te krijgen. Alle kosten van het
terugzenden van de Producten naar RPB®voor garantieservice moeten door de koper worden
betaald.
RPB®behoudt zich het recht voor om haar producten te verbeteren door wijzigingen in ontwerp
of materialen aan te brengen zonder verplichtingen te hebben jegens kopers van eerder
gefabriceerde Producten.
AANSPRAKELIJKHEID
RPB®Safety kan geen enkele aansprakelijkheid aanvaarden van welke aard dan ook die direct of
indirect voortvloeit uit het gebruik of misbruik van RPB®Safety-producten, inclusief doeleinden
waarvoor de producten niet zijn ontworpen. RPB®Safety is niet aansprakelijk voor schade, verlies
of kosten als gevolg van het niet geven van advies of informatie of het geven van onjuist advies of
informatie, al dan niet vanwege nalatigheid van RPB®Safety of die van zijn werknemers, agenten
of onderaannemers.
