PRELIMINARY
Congratulations on your purchase of the FD5000SW Car Stereo Replacement Interface.
This interface with harness will allow you to replace your factory stereo and retain important
power, communication and diagnostic functions in your vehicle. The interface will also retain
steering wheel controls (if equipped) when using a compatible aftermarket stereo.

BEFORE BEGINNING: READ THIS INSTRUCTION MANUAL
**CAUTION**: Disconnect negative battery terminal to avoid short circuits. Read ALL
manufacturers warnings regarding air bags and electrical systems in your vehicle. We
recommend the use of a volt-ohm meter or computer-safe LED probe when checking
wiring. A test light or grounded light probe if used improperly can cause damage to the
vehicle’s computer and/or diagnostic system.
NOTE: We recommend the FD3090A Car Stereo Installation Kit for mounting your
aftermarket car stereo and a TK12A car stereo tool kit.
WHY YOU NEED THIS PART:
Your factory stereo is an integral part of your vehicle’s data and communication systems. If the stereo is
removed without the proper installation accessory, some functions of your vehicle will be LOST including:
 • +12Vaccessorypoweratstereo’slocation
 • R.A.P.(RetainedAccessoryPower)feature
 • Communicatespropercommandsignalswithhostcomputerduringvehicle
service or diagnostic operations (SEE NOTE)
 • Steeringwheelaudiocontrols(ifequipped)
NOTE: Your vehicle’s ECM (Electronics Control Module) may store an error code if operated without
the factory stereo installed and you may experience difficulty when having the vehicle serviced at the
dealership. The FD5000SWInterfacemodule/harnesswillallowyoutoREPLACEthefactorystereoand
RETAINtheoriginalpowerandcommunicationsignals.

WIRING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery to avoid any short circuits.
2. Remove and unplug factory stereo. (If needed, call Scosche Tech Support 1 [phone] x3 for
stereo removal steps.)
3. Match and connect the appropriate wires from the FD5000SW harness to the appropriate wires of the
plugprovidedwithyourstereo.Forexample,connecttheyellow+12VConstantleadfromyourstereo
to the yellow wire of the FD5000SW harness. (See wiring diagram section for additional information.)
NOTE: If your vehicle is equipped with steering wheel controls and you are installing a compatible aftermarket
 stereo,seepages8-9forconnectioninformation.
4. NotethattheRED+12Vaccessorywireandtheorangeilluminationwireforyouraftermarketstereoare
coming from the FD5000SW module itself, not the vehicle harness.
5. If your aftermarket stereo does not have all matching color-coded wires for the FD5000SW interface
harness, then cap or tape unused wires separately to avoid short circuits.
6. Reconnectthenegativebatterycable,closealldoorsandremovethekeyfromvehicleignition.
7. Allowthevehicletocometoa“resting”or“sleep”stateforafewminuteswithoutanykeyinserted,
door/hood/trunk open and all vehicle accessories turned to the OFF position.
8. Connectthesmallblack8-pinharnesstotheFD5000SW interface module (black plastic box).
9. Connect the FD5000SW connector to the Factory Harness.
10.Asyouinstallyournewstereo,placetheFD5000SW interface module in the dash cavity.
(Optional: Cable ties or double sided tape can be used to secure the module, but are not included)

WIRING NOTES
1. TheRed+12VswitchedaccessorywirecomingfromtheFD5000SW interface is rated at 10 amps for
usewithasingleAftermarketstereo.Connectingadditionalaccessoriestothis+12Vpowersourcecan
cause damage to the FD5000SW module.
2. There are wires connected ONLY between the FD5000SW interface plug and the vehicle connectors
(under the insulating tape). Do not make any connections or cuts to these wires.
3. Ifyourstereodoesnotcontainan“Orange”illuminationwire,thentheorangewirewillnotbeused.
Tape or cap all unused wires to prevent short circuits

IndustryAssociation).Theymaydifferfromthewiringcodesfoundonyourcarstereo.Alwaysreferto
your stereo owners manual for wiring details about your particular car stereo.

STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS
1. Determine if your vehicle has built-in stereo (audio)
control buttons located on the steering wheel:
a. If yes, proceed to step 2.
b. If no, then disregard this steering
wheel controls section.
2. Determine if your new stereo is compatible with
steering wheel controls. Consult the installation
manual provided with the stereo, or check the
wiring connections behind the stereo:
a. Some stereos have a 3.5 mm round (headphone type)
input receptacle at the rear of stereo
  labeled“SWC”or“SWCIn”
 b.SomestereoshaveBluewirewithYellowstripe
  (orothercolor)labeled:“SWC”or“SWCIn”.
3. Refer to chart on page 9 to prepare the Steering Wheel Control harness. Use the chart to determine
which colored loop to cut and the corresponding connection for your particular stereo. If your brand

4.Connectthe3.5mmMalejackthebackofthestereo’sSWCinputorconnecttheBrown(KEY1),Gray
 (KEY2)orBlack(GND)tothestereo’sSWCinputwire.
5.ConnecttheMale14-Pinconnectortheinterfacemoduleasshowninthediagram.
**NOTE: Steering wheel control buttons and functions are provided as a guide. Your specific vehicle may differ.

1.PrepareFD5000SW steering wheel connector by using the chart below.
2. Connect the harness to the interface module.
3. ForAlpine,Clarion,JVC,Panasonicandcarstereos,connectthe3.5mm
 malesteeringplugintothesteeringwheelinputjackattheback
of the stereo.
4.ForKenwoodandnewerJVCstereos,connecttheBROWN
wire from the steering wheel harness to the REMOTE IN
wire at the back of the stereo.
*NOTE: Cut wire ONLY. DO NOT remove!

OPERATION
When connected and installed per these instructions, the aftermarket stereo should operate normally.
