1. Herzlichen Glückwunsch!
Mit der elektronischen Personenwaage
seca 888 haben Sie ein hochpräzises und
gleichzeitig robustes Gerät erworben.
Seit über 150 Jahren stellt seca seine Erfah-
rung in den Dienst der Gesundheit und setzt
als Marktführer in vielen Ländern der Welt
mit innovativen Entwicklungen fürs Wiegen
und Messen immer neue Maßstäbe.
Die elektronische Personenwaage seca 888
kommt entsprechend den nationalen Vor-
schriften hauptsächlich in Krankenhäu-
sern, Arztpraxen und stationären Pflege-
einrichtungen zum Einsatz. Die Waage ist
nach Klasse IIII geeicht.
Das Gewicht wird innerhalb weniger Se-
kunden ermittelt.
Die Waage ist sehr stabil gebaut und wird
Ihnen lange treue Dienste leisten. Sie ist
mit ihrem Erschütterungsschalter zum Ein-
schalten einfach zu bedienen und die gro-
ße Anzeige ist leicht lesbar.
Der rutschfeste Noppenbelag ist äußerst
strapazierbar und zum Reinigen abnehm-
bar.
Aufgrund des geringen Stromverbrauches
ist die seca 888 mit einem Batteriesatz
über lange Zeit mobil einsetzbar.
2. Sicherheit
Bevor Sie die neue Waage benutzen, nehmen Sie sich bitte ein wenig Zeit, um die folgen-
den Sicherheitshinweise zu lesen.
• Beachten Sie die Hinweise in der Ge-
brauchsanweisung.
• Bewahren Sie die Gebrauchsanwei-
sung und die Konformitätserklärung
sorgfältig auf.
•Sie dürfen die Waage nicht fallen lassen
oder heftigen Stößen aussetzen.
• Verwenden Sie ausschließlich den an-
gegebenen Batterietyp (siehe „Batterie-
wechsel“ auf Seite 9).
• Lassen Sie Wartung und Nacheichun-
gen regelmäßig durchführen (siehe
„Wartung” auf Seite 8).
•Lassen Sie Reparaturen ausschließlich
von autorisierten Personen durchführen.
3. Bevor es richtig losgeht…

– Batteriehalter mit 4 Batterien

Stromversorgung
Die Stromversorgung der Waage erfolgt ausschließlich über Batterien. Die Waage arbeitet
netzunabhängig – das ist sehr nützlich bei mobilem Einsatz.
Die LC-Anzeige hat einen geringen Stromverbrauch – mit einem Satz Batterien sind
120.000 Wägungen möglich. Wenn die Batteriespannung nicht mehr ausreicht, erscheint
batt in der Anzeige.
–Drehen Sie die Waage vorsichtig um,
so dass der Boden der Waage zugäng-
lich ist.
–Drücken Sie den Verschluss des Batte-
riefachs in Richtung des Aufdrucks
„Battery“, und klappen Sie den Deckel
auf.
–Schließen Sie das Kabel an die Halte-
rung mit Batterien an.
–Legen Sie die Halterung in das Batterie-
fach.
–Verschließen Sie den Deckel, und dre-
hen Sie anschließend die Waage wie-
der um.
4. Waage aufstellen und ausrichten
–Stellen Sie die Waage auf einen festen
Untergrund.
–Lösen Sie die Kontermuttern über den
vier Fußschrauben.
–Richten Sie die Waage durch Drehen
der Fußschrauben aus. Die Luftblase
der Libelle muss sich genau in der Mitte
des Kreises befinden.
–Schrauben Sie anschließend die Kon-
termuttern wieder fest.
Wichtig!
Die Ausrichtung der Waage muss bei jedem Standortwechsel überprüft und
eventuell korrigiert werden.

5. Bedienung
Bedienelemente und Anzeigen
Das Display befindet sich in dem erhöhten Anzeigeteil der Waage.
Richtiges Wiegen
–Treten Sie leicht auf die Waage. Der Er-
schütterungsschalter startet die Waage.
In der Anzeige erscheinen nacheinander

. Danach ist die
Waage automatisch auf Null gesetzt und
betriebsbereit.
–Betreten Sie die Waage und bleiben Sie
ruhig stehen.
–Lesen Sie das Wiegeergebnis an der
digitalen Anzeige ab.
–Bei Belastung der Waage über 160 kg
erscheint in der Anzeige
ST0P
.
Waage ausschalten
Die Waage ist mit einer automatischen Abschaltung ausgerüstet, die das Gerät 20 Sekun-
den nach der letzten Wiegung automatisch abschaltet.

Prüfung auf korrekten Eichzählerinhalt
Diese seca-Waage ist geeicht. Eichungen dürfen nur durch autorisierte Stellen erfolgen.
Um dies sicherzustellen, ist die Waage mit einem Eichzähler ausgestattet, der jede Ver-
änderung der eichtechnisch relevanten Daten festhält. Wenn Sie prüfen möchten, ob die
Waage ordnungsgemäß geeicht ist, gehen Sie folgendermaßen vor:
–Warten Sie, bis sich die Waage ausge-
schaltet hat.
–Halten Sie die Taste gedrückt und star-
ten Sie die Waage durch Antippen der
Wiegefläche. Auf dem Display blinkt für
wenige Sekunden der aktuelle Eichzäh-
lerinhalt.
–Vergleichen Sie den ausgegebenen
Eichzählerinhalt mit der auf der Eich-
zählermarke angegebenen Zahl. Für
eine gültige Eichung müssen beide
Zahlen übereinstimmen.
–Wenn Marke und Eichzähler nicht über-
einstimmen, muss eine Nacheichung
erfolgen. Wenden Sie sich an Ihren Ser-
vicepartner oder den seca-Kunden-
dienst.
6. Reinigung und Pflege
Reinigen Sie das Äußere der Waage nach Bedarf mit einem Haushaltsreiniger oder einem
handelsüblichen Desinfektionsmittel. Beachten Sie die Hinweise des Herstellers. Der Nop-
penbelag der Waage ist zur Reinigung abnehmbar.
Verwenden Sie auf keinen Fall scheuernde oder scharfe Reiniger, Spiritus, Benzin oder Ähn-
liches für die Reinigung. Solche Mittel können die hochwertigen Oberflächen beschädigen.
Beide Zahlen müssen übereinstimmen

7. Was tun, wenn…
… bei Belastung keine Gewichtsanzeige erscheint?
–Ist die Waage eingeschaltet? Wiederholen Sie bei Bedarf das Einschalten durch stär-
keres Tippen auf die Wiegefläche.
– Überprüfen Sie die Batterien, deren korrekte Polung und den Batterieanschluss.

dienst.

–Die Batteriespannung lässt nach. Sie sollten die Batterien in den nächsten Tagen aus-
wechseln.

–Entlasten Sie die Waage und starten Sie die Waage erneut. Warten Sie, bis 0.0 ange-
zeigt wird und wiegen Sie dann nochmals.

–Die Umgebungstemperatur der Waage ist zu hoch oder zu niedrig. Stellen Sie die
Waage in einer Umgebungstemperatur zwischen +10 °C und +40 °C auf. Warten Sie
etwa 15 Minuten, bis sich die Waage an die Umgebungstemperatur angepasst hat und
wiegen Sie dann erneut.
… die Anzeige Err und eine Zahl erscheinen?
–Starten Sie die Waage nach der automatischen Abschaltung erneut. Danach arbeitet
die Waage wieder normal. Sollte das nicht der Fall sein, benachrichtigen Sie den War-
tungsdienst.
8. Wartung
Lassen Sie den nationalen gesetzlichen Bestimmungen entsprechend eine Nacheichung
durch autorisierte Personen durchführen. Das Jahr der Ersteichung befindet sich hinter
dem CE-Zeichen auf dem Typenschild über der Nummer der benannten Stelle 0109
(Eichamt Hessen). Eine Nacheichung ist in jedem Falle erforderlich, wenn eine oder meh-
rere Sicherungsmarken verletzt sind oder der Eichzählerinhalt nicht mit der Zahl auf der
gültigen Eichzählermarke übereinstimmt (vergleiche Seite 7).
Wir empfehlen, vor der Nacheichung eine Wartung durch Ihren Servicepartner in Ihrer
Nähe durchführen zu lassen. Hierbei hilft Ihnen der seca Kundendienst gerne weiter.

Batteriewechsel
Wenn die Anzeige oder batt im Display erscheint, sollten Sie die Batterien wech-
seln. Sie benötigen 4 Mignon-Batterien, Typ AA, 1,5 Volt.
–Drehen Sie die Waage vorsichtig um,
so dass der Boden der Waage zugäng-
lich ist.
–Drücken Sie den Verschluss des Batte-
riefachs in Richtung des Aufdrucks
„Battery“ und klappen Sie den Deckel
auf.
–Nehmen Sie die Halterung mit den Bat-
terien heraus.
–Entfernen Sie die verbrauchten Batteri-
en und legen Sie die neuen Batterien in
die Halterung.
Achten Sie auf die richtige Polung.
–Legen Sie die Halterung mit Batterien in
das Batteriefach.
– Verschließen Sie den Deckel.
–Drehen Sie anschließend die Waage
wieder um.

10. Entsorgung
Batterien
Werfen Sie verbrauchte Batterien nicht in
den Hausmüll. Entsorgen Sie die Batterien
über Sammelstellen in Ihrer Nähe. Wählen
Sie beim Neukauf schadstoffarme Batteri-
en ohne Quecksilber (Hg), Cadmium (Cd)
und ohne Blei (Pb).
Entsorgung der Waage
Sollte die Waage nicht mehr benutzt wer-
den können, gibt Ihnen der zuständige
Müllbeseitigungsverband gern Auskunft
über notwendige Maßnahmen zur fachge-
rechten Entsorgung.
11. Gewährleistung
Für Mängel, die auf Material- oder Fabrika-
tionsfehler zurückzuführen sind, gilt eine
zweijährige Gewährleistungsfrist ab Liefe-
rung. Alle beweglichen Teile, wie z.B. Bat-
terien, Kabel, Netzgeräte, Akkus etc., sind
hiervon ausgenommen. Mängel, die unter
die Gewährleistung fallen, werden für den
Kunden gegen Vorlage der Kaufquittung
kostenlos behoben. Weitere Ansprüche
können nicht berücksichtigt werden. Ko-
sten für Hin- und Rücktransporte gehen zu
Lasten des Kunden, wenn sich das Gerät
an einem anderen Ort als dem Sitz des
Kunden befindet. Bei Transportschäden
können Gewährleistungsansprüche nur
geltend gemacht werden, wenn für Trans-
porte die komplette Originalverpackung
verwendet und die Waage darin gemäß
dem originalverpackten Zustand gesichert
und befestigt wurde. Bewahren Sie daher
alle Verpackungsteile auf.
Es besteht keine Gewährleistung, wenn
das Gerät durch Personen geöffnet wird,
die hierzu nicht ausdrücklich von seca au-
torisiert worden sind.
Kunden im Ausland bitten wir, sich im Ge-
währleistungsfall direkt an den Verkäufer
des jeweiligen Landes zu wenden.

1. Congratulations!
In the seca 888 electronic personal scale,
you have purchased a high-precision yet
sturdy piece of equipment.
seca has been putting its experience at
the service of health for over 150 years
now, and as market leader in many coun-
tries of the world, is always setting new
standards with its innovative develop-
ments for weighing and measuring.
In accordance with national regulations, the
seca 888 electronic personal scale is used
primarily in hospitals, doctors’ surgeries
and in-patient nursing facilities. The scale is
approved to CE class IIII.
Weight is determined within a few seconds.
The scale is of a very sturdy construction
and will give you long and loyal service.
Its vibration switch to start it makes the
scale easy to operate and the large display
is easy to read.
The non-slip textured covering is extremely
tough and can be removed for cleaning.
Its low power consumption means that
with a set of batteries, the seca 888 can
be used on a mobile basis for long periods.
2. Safety
Before using the new scale, please take a little time to read the following safety instruc-
tions.
• Follow the instructions in the instruc-
tions for use.
•Keep the operating instructions and the
declaration of conformity in a safe
place.
•Do not drop the scale or subject it to vi-
olent shocks.
•Use only the type of battery stated (see
“Changing the batteries” on page 17).
• Have scale serviced and re-calibrated
on a regular basis (see chapter entitled
“Maintenance” on page 16).
•Have repairs carried out only by author-
ised persons.
3. Before you start…
Unpacking
The scope of supply includes:
– the scale
– battery holder with 4 batteries
– these operating instructions

Power supply
The scale is powered exclusively by batteries. The scale works independently of the
mains, which is very handy for mobile use.
The LC display has a low power consumption – 120,000 weighing operations can be per-
formed with one set of batteries. When the battery voltage is no longer adequate, bAtt
appears in the display.
–Carefully turn over the scale so that the
base of the scale is accessible.
–Push the battery compartment closure
towards “Batterie” and open the cover.
–Connect the cable to the holder and
batteries.
–Place the holder in the battery com-
partment.
–Close the cover and then turn the scale
back up the right way.
4. Setting up and aligning the scale
– Place the scale on a level surface.
–Undo the locknuts using the four foot
screws.
–Align the scale by undoing the foot
screws. The air bubble in the spirit level
must be right in the centre of the circle.
– Then re-tighten the locknuts.
Important!
The alignment of the scale must be checked and corrected if necessary every
time it is relocated.

5. Operation
Controls and displays
The display is in the raised display part of the scale.
Correct weighing
–Gently tap the top of the weighing plat-
form to start the scale. The vibration
switch starts the scale.
se(a, 8.8.8.8.8. and 0.00 appear consec-
utively in the display. The scale is then au-
tomatically set to zero and ready to use
– Stand on the scale and keep still.
–Read the weighing result off the digital
display.
–If a load greater than 160 kg is placed
on the scale, St0P appears in the dis-
play.
Switching off the scale
The scale is equipped with automatic switch-off which automatically switches off the
scale 20 seconds after the last weighing operation.

Checking that the contents of the calibration counter are
correct
This seca scale is calibrated. Calibration may be performed only by authorised centres.
To ensure this, the scale is fitted with a calibration counter which records any change to
data relevant to calibration. If you want to check whether the scale is properly calibrated,
proceed as follows:
– Wait until the scale has switched off.
–Keep the key depressed and start the
scale by tapping the weighing platform.
The current contents of the calibration
counter are shown on the display for a
few seconds.
–Compare the output contents of the
calibration counter with the number
shown on the calibration counter
stikker. For valid calibration, both num-
bers must match.
–If sticker and calibration counter do not
match, then re-calibration is required.
Contact your service agent or seca Cus-
tomer Service.
6. Cleaning and care
Clean the rubber surface and the housing as required using a domestic cleaning agent or
commercially-available disinfectant. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.. The textured
cover on the scale can be removed for cleaning.
Under no circumstances use abrasive or acid cleaners, white spirit, benzene or the like for
cleaning. Such substances can damage the high-quality surfaces.
Both numbers must match.

7. What do I do if…
… no weight is displayed with a load on the scale?
–Is the scale switched on? Switch on again, if necessary, by tapping the weighing plat-
form more vigorously.
– Check batteries, make sure polarity is correct and check battery connection.
… ---- appears instead of 0.0 before weighing?
– Press the Start key again – there must not be any load on the scale.
… one segment is illuminated constantly or not at all?
– The relevant segment has a fault. Inform Servicing.
… the display shows ?
– Battery voltage is running low. Change the batteries in the next few days.
… batt appears in the display?
– Batteries are empty. Put in new batteries.
… St0p appears in the display?
– Maximum load has been exceeded.
… the display flashes?
–Take the load off the scale and start the scale again. Wait until 0.0 appears and then
weigh again.
… the display appears?
–The ambient temperature of the scale is too high or too low. Place the scale in an
ambient temperature between +10 °C and +40 °C. Wait about 15 minutes for the
scale to adapt to the ambient temperature and then weigh again.
… the display Err and a number appear?
–Switch off the scale with the Start key and start the scale again. The scale will then
work normally again.
If this is not the case, disconnect the power supply by briefly removing the batteries. If
this measure is equally unsuccessful, inform the Service department.
8. Maintenance
Have the scale recalibrated by authorised persons in accordance with national legal re-
quirements. The year of initial calibration can be found behind the CE symbol on the rating
plate above the number of the appointed office, 0109 (Hessen Calibration Office). Recal-
ibration is essential if one or more security marks are damaged or the calibration counter
does not match the number on the applicable calibration counter mark (cf. page 15).
We recommend having your scale serviced by your local service agent before having it
recalibrated. seca Customer Service will be pleased to give you further assistance.

Changing the batteries
When or bAtt appear in the display, you should change the batteries. You need
4 type AA 1.5 V batteries.
–Carefully turn over the scale so that the
base of the scale is accessible.
–Push the battery compartment closure
towards “Battery” and open the cover.
– Take out the holder and batteries.
–Remove the used batteries and insert
new batteries in the holder.
Check that the polarity is correct.
–Place the holder and batteries in the
battery compartment.
– Close the cover.
–Then turn the scale back up the right
way.

10. Disposal
Batteries
Do not throw used batteries away in do-
mestic waste. Dispose of batteries at col-
lection points in the vicinity. When buying
new batteries, select those low in harmful
substances and containing no mercury
(Hg), cadmium (Cd) or lead (Pb).
Disposing of the scale
If the scale can no longer be used, the re-
sponsible waste disposal association will
be glad to advise you on the measures
necessary to dispose of it properly.

11. Warranty
A two-year warranty from date of delivery
applies to defects attributable to poor ma-
terials or workmanship. All moveable parts
- batteries, cables, mains units, recharge-
able batteries etc. - are excluded. Defects
which come under warranty will be made
good for the customer at no charge on
production of the receipt. No further
claims can be entertained. The costs of
transport in both directions will be borne
by the customer should the equipment be
located anywhere other than the custom-
er’s premises. In the event of transport
damage, claims under warranty can be
honoured only if the complete original pa-
kkaging was used for any transport and
the scale secured and attached in that pa-
kkaging just as it was when originally pa-
kked. All the packaging should therefore
be retained.
A claim under warranty will not be hon-
oured if the equipment is opened by per-
sons not expressly authorised by seca to
do so.

En achetant le pèse-personne électroni-
que seca 888, vous avez acquis un appa-
reil à la fois robuste et de haute précision
Depuis plus de 150 ans, seca met son expé-
rience au service de la santé et, en tant que
leader du marché dans de nombreux pays
du monde, définit sans cesse de nouvelles
normes grâce à ses innovations dans les do-
maines du pesage et de la mesure.
Conforme aux prescriptions nationales, le
pèse-personne électronique seca 888 a
été conçu pour être essentiellement utilisé
dans des hôpitaux, des cabinets médicaux
et des instituts de soins. Le pèse-personne
est étalonné selon la classe IIII.
Le résultat de pesage est fourni en quelques
secondes.
De conception très stable, le pèse-per-
sonne sera votre fidèle partenaire pendant
de longues années. Son commutateur
sensible aux vibrations permettant une
connexion automatique facilite l’utilisation
et son grand affichage est clairement lisi-
ble.
Son revêtement à boucles anti-glissant est
extrêmement résistant et se retire pour le
nettoyage.
Grâce à sa faible consommation en éner-
gie, un jeu de piles permet de nombreuses
utilisations mobiles de la seca 888.
2. Consignes de sécurité
Avant d'utiliser le nouveau pèse-personne, prenez le temps de lire les consignes de sé-
curité suivantes.
• Veuillez respecter les instructions du
mode d'emploi.
•Conservez soigneusement le mode
d’emploi et la déclaration de conformité.
• Ne pas laisser tomber le pèse-person-
ne, et ne pas le soumettre à des chocs
violents.
• Utilisez uniquement le modèle de pile
indiqué (voir «Remplacement des piles»
à la page 25).
•Veillez à effectuer régulièrement l’entre-
tien et les vérifications d’étalonnage
(voir «Nettoyage et entretien» à la
page 24).
• Ne faites effectuer les réparations que
par du personnel autorisé.
