This media guide is designed to assist operators in selecting appropriate paper types
to be used with the Sharp MX-6500N and MX-7500N high-speed color document systems,
which will help ensure that the best possible output and finish is achieved.
The MX-6500N and MX-7500N are aimed at light production environments such as Central Reproduction
Departments (CRDs) Print Rooms and other busy in-plant/on-demand environments. It is in these environments
that operators often require much more versatile paper handling when compared to typical high-speed
workgroup MFP models.
This document identifies tested media that has been validated by Sharp for use in these document systems.
Also included in this document are recommendations for the use of each media type. For simplicity, media
weights in this document are described in metric terms “gsm” (or g/m2, which has the same meaning).
For convenience, there is a metric-to-inch conversion chart available on page 36. Also, when viewing this
document on a PC or mobile device, users can quickly navigate to different sections by clicking on the
hyperlinks throughout the guide.
Although every possible effort has been made by Sharp to rigorously test a wide variety of media types, it
is virtually impossible to thoroughly test every single media type available. Therefore, for your convenience,
we have tested some of the more common brands in the market.
It should be noted that no specific media type can be 100% guaranteed even though it has been tested
by Sharp. This is due to the number of variables involved such as media care and handling, regular device
maintenance, ambient humidity and temperature, use of Sharp genuine consumables, spare parts and
variables that are outside of Sharp’s control. Therefore, Sharp will not be held responsible nor be liable to
take action to correct situations or conditions resulting from any media that is underperforming against a
customer’s expectations.
The information contained in this guide was obtained from various sources, which is believed to be reliable
based on industry standards. To the best of our knowledge, this information is accurate in all respects.
However, Sharp Electronics Corporation nor any of its agents or employees shall be responsible for any

INTRODUCTION

The temperature and humidity of the area where paper is stored and used can have
a definite influence on how the paper performs during any given imaging process.
Moisture
Digital copiers and printers are very sensitive to moisture in paper. High humidity causes damp edges
and wavy paper. Low humidity dries paper edges making it contract and become tight. Poor performance
is the result! That's why it is so important to condition paper by placing it in the environment where it will
be used several hours beforehand. As a rule, paper and other media should be conditioned in a dry, clean
environment prior to using it in the machine.
The Following Guidelines are Recommended
•Paper should be stored in the original carton and ream wrappers.
•The optimum paper storage and imaging operating conditions are:
• 68 to 76 degrees F (20 - 24 degrees C)
• 35 to 55% relative humidity
•Paper should not be stored directly on the floor, since storage in this manner increases the possibility
of moisture absorption.
• Store paper on shelves off the oor
• If storage on the oor is necessary, stack on a wood pallet
•In areas of high humidity, store any partially used reams or cartons of paper in plastic wraps or bags.
•If paper is moved from a storage area to a location with a different temperature and humidity, the paper
should be placed in the new location several hours before use.
Do Not Open Until Ready to Use
To achieve best results, we recommend to leave reams sealed in their original wrapper, in the shipping
carton during paper storage. Do not open the wrapper until the user is ready to load the paper into the
MX-6500N/7500N Document System. The ream wrapper has an inner lining that guards against moisture
absorption. Once it is opened, the protective barrier is gone and moisture can seep in and cause
excessive curl and other problems. After opening the ream, reseal the wrapper with tape if it will not
all be used immediately.
Paper Quality and Performance
Poor quality paper, as well as moisture in the paper can cause irregular image fill in documents that have
large fill areas, especially on ledger and larger size documents with fill near the edges. To help ensure you
get the best possible output when printing documents with large ll areas, a high quality 28 lb. bond paper
(above 94 brightness) is recommended.

The proper usage of paper type in the print drivers or from the MFP is critical to achieving optimal print or
copy results. Please use the charts below to help guide you in selecting the proper paper settings for your
specific needs.

Standard paper settings are provided for quick access to commonly used paper types. Please refer to
the chart below for a selection of standard papers to choose from and a matrix of settings utilized when
selecting these paper types.

If after a custom paper is created in the SEPC, and the quality is unsatisfactory, the paper could be out of
the capabilities of the MX-7500N/6500N.
For further adjustment and control over image quality, please refer to the MX-7500N/6500N Administrator
Machine Adjustment Guide, which is available for download from the webpage of the MFP. The webpage is
accessed by entering the IP address of the MFP and selecting “Operation Manual Download”. The “User’s
Manual” can also be downloaded here.
Custom paper settings
Sharp recommends making custom paper entries into the Sharp Engine Paper Catalog (SEPC) for jobs
that require the highest print quality. Setting up custom entries will help achieve optimal results and will
provide operators with ultimate control of the finished product. Please consult the operator’s guide and/or
contact your Sharp representative for full instructions on how to set up a custom Paper Property entry.
