revision level "FS: A3" replaces the previous version "FS: A2".
Note the following differences and special features compared to the revision level "FS: A2":
•The configuration codes listed in the "SIMATIC MV320 Configuration Guide" (02/2021)
cannot be used with the revision level "FS: A2".
•As of revision level "FS: A3", operation via a SIMATIC RF170C (MOBY Mode = MV3xx)
communication module is no longer supported.

The SIMATIC MV320 optical handheld reader is a sophisticated, powerful and versatile bar
code reader for manual operation. Typical areas of application: Health care, pharmacy, retail
trade and manufacturing.

In the remainder of this document, the term "device" or "optical handheld reader" is also used
instead of the full product name, "SIMATIC MV320".

2.1 Product package
The SIMATIC MV320 optical handheld reader (article number 6GF3320-0HT01) is supplied
with the following components:
•SIMATIC MV320 optical handheld reader (including cables)
2.2 Characteristics and areas of application
Due to the following features, the optical handheld reader is also suitable for demanding
applications.
•With its patented dual-field optics, both wide (≤ 40 cm) and very small (≥ 3 cm) barcodes
can be read.
•Thanks to intuitive targeting, 1D and 2D barcodes as well as barcodes belonging to postal
services can be read reliably and at little expense.
•Thanks to glare control, barcodes can be read from bottles, packed foodstuffs and cans
without any problem.
Whether in health care, retail trade or in other areas of application with intensive use - the
plastic housing, which is resistant to disinfectants and has degree of protection IP54, protects
the performance and the working lifetime of the optical handheld reader from aggressive
cleaning agents, dust, penetration of water and even being dropped.
Are you on the move, working in different environments or do you need to read codes

Avoid exceeding the maximum voltage
If the maximum voltage is exceeded, this voids the manufacturer's guarantee.
•Maximum voltage tolerance: 5 V ± 10 %
•The components must comply with the requirements of the EC directive RoHS and the
REACH Regulation: See EC directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS 2) and the Regulation (EC) No.
1907/2006 (REACH Regulation).
3.1 Connecting and removing cables
Connecting the cable
Proceed as follows to connect the cable to the device:
1. Plug the RJ-50 end of the cable into the bottom of the device.
2. Press the plug firmly into the device until it audibly locks in place.
Result: The cable is properly connected.

Removing the cable
Proceed as follows to remove the cable from the device:
1. Insert a paper clip into the opening on the side of the device handle.
2. Remove the cable carefully from the device.

Commissioning

4.1 Switching on the optical handheld reader
With USB cable
Proceed as follows to switch on the reader using the USB cable:
1. Plug the USB end of the cable into a USB connector on the host device.
After a few seconds, you will hear two beeps.
2. The LED goes off, indicating that the optical handheld reader is ready for operation.

5.1 Working with the SIMATIC MV320 optical handheld reader
Without metal stand
Proceed as follows to work with the reader:
1. Hold down the trigger button of the optical handheld reader.
2. The two blue beams sent out by the optical handheld reader are used for targeting.
The blue beams must be directed to the center of the barcode. The ideal read distance
between the device and barcode is approximately 10 cm.
As soon as the optical handheld reader is at the optimum read distance, the barcode is read.
To confirm that the barcode was read correctly, the optical handheld reader generates a
beep, vibrates and a green LED flashes.

With metal stand with stand detection
The hardware revision level (FS: A3) has a stand detection. By default, the optical handheld
reader automatically changes to the motion detection mode when it is placed on the stand.
Proceed as follows to work with the reader in a metal stand:
1. Hold the bar code into the scanner field of the handheld reader to activate it.
Result: The optical handheld reader generates a beep and a green LED flashes to confirm that
the bar code was read correctly.
When the optical handheld reader is taken off the stand, it changes back to manual mode.
