1.1 CPU in the SIMATIC S7-4100 controller - Overview
SIMATIC S7-4100 is a controller that is specially designed for use with the SIMATIC PCS neo
process control system. The controller adds compact and powerful components to the hardware
portfolio of the process control system.
The central processing unit of the SIMATIC S7-4100 is the CPU 4168-H, which features SIMATIC
technology.
Its mounting technology enables space-saving mounting of the CPU, the power supply module
and up to 5 communications processors (CPs).
The controller can be connected to PROFINET IO/Industrial Ethernet and PROFIBUS DP via
interfaces of the CPU or plug-in CPs.

3.3 Reset button (RES)
The reset button is located on the front side of the CPU, above the slot for the SIMATIC Memory
Card (SMC).
The functions of the reset button are as follows:
• Forcing a restart of the CPU
• Resetting the CPU to the factory settings
Press the reset button only with a thin blunt object (diameter approx. 2.5mm).

3.4 Slot for SIMATIC Memory Card (SMC)
The SMC slot has no function in a CPU with 󹪝rmware version 4.0.
Operating the CPU with 󹪝rmware version V4.0 is only permitted with the SMC unplugged.
3.5 PN/IE interfaces X1 and X2 (PROFINET IO/Industrial Ethernet)
RJ45 sockets
On the front of the CPU, there are four RJ45 sockets behind the front cover.
The sockets are assigned to the two PN/IE interfaces (X1 and X2) with a 2-port switch each:
Ports P1 and P2 (marking: e.g. X1P1R or X1P2R)
The RJ45 sockets allow the CPU to be connected to the following networks:
• Industrial Ethernet network
• PROFINET IO network

MAC addresses
A block with three consecutive MAC addresses is assigned to each of the 3 PN/IE interfaces. The
󹪝rst address of each block is lasered to the left of the RJ45 sockets and on the side of the
enclosure.
• PN/IE interfaces
The MAC addresses of the PN/IE interfaces are printed on the right side of the housing.
(can be seen in the engineering at "Accessible devices in the subnet")
• With the PN/IE interfaces, each of the ports has its own MAC address.
These MAC addresses of the ports are used in PROFINET IO operation for detecting and
evaluating neighbor and topology relationships (LLDP).

3.6 System Expansion Card (SEC)
PCS neo manages the process objects (PO) con󹪝gured in the user program. The con󹪝guration
limits of the System Expansion Card indicate the maximum number of POs that you can load
onto the CPU.

Slot for the System Expansion Card (SEC)
Note
Operation of the CPU is only possible with SEC
The SEC is a part of the hardware of the CPU that is essential for the operation of the CPU. The
SEC must be plugged into the CPU before installation and commissioning.
The slot for the SEC is located on the left side of the CPU.
If a CPU does not recognize a valid SEC during startup, the CPU does not start.
